Wake N Bake Donuts - Carolina Beach

Wake N Bake Donuts - Carolina Beach

Reviews Summary

Wake N Bake is widely praised for its creative, high-quality donuts with unique flavors and generous portions, often described as fresh, soft, and delicious. The coffee and espresso also receive strong compliments. Many highlight the friendly, efficient staff, though a few note occasional service inconsistencies. Gluten-free options are particularly celebrated. While most reviews are glowing (5-star), some criticize dryness, lack of freshness, or overly sweet flavors. A few mention political controversy affecting loyalty. The shop’s fun, hip atmosphere and innovative offerings (like bacon or cereal toppings) make it a standout, though a small minority find the donuts overrated. Overall, it’s a beloved spot with minor room for improvement.

Amazing and clean, one of the best caramel latte since moving from NYC. Our barista maybe 12 years old name Tyler was PHENOMENAL!! Just WOW. If you visiting Carolina Beach this is a must visit.

Searching for a good cup of coffee, we came across this little shop. The Apple Fritter was huge and delicious. The Latte was everything I expected and we took 6 donuts to go.

Got these a while back I forgot to post the pics. The donuts look and taste really good. But they?re not Krispy Kreme though if that makes sense. Some of them been sitting for a while but doesn?t take away from the taste really

Love me some vacation donuts. ?? these are perfect for that getaway splurge. They also have good coffee too. They have a good selection of your basics and more gourmet flavors. They also offer vegan gluten-free options. I can't vouch for them. I just saw them in the case. The shop is smaller and is a little cramped when standing in line to order. So, they have to be patient because people tend to take their time looking at the menu. Boston Cream: Spot on. Custard is not too sweet and pairs well with the

I love donuts and always try to find a donut shop in every town/city I visit while vacationing. I had heard a lot about Wake N Bake, so I decided to give it a try. I got a half dozen. They definitely are more "cake" donuts (for those who don't like cake donuts, you may want to skip) but overall they weren't bad. The Butterfinger Bash was my favorite with the white icing and Butterfinger bits making for a good combination. I was a wee bit disappointed with the Couch Potato merely because I had hoped for a

It's nice this coffee and donuts shop is open later than most. We stopped by to pick up some filled and glazed sweet treats in the late afternoon. The donut dough was a little dry already but overall still good. Probably have to go before noon for the best selection and quality.

Fun little place on the beach. The drinks were great. Wide selection of unique doughnuts.

Great assortment of fancy donuts and coffees. My 3 y/o grandson and I visit every morning when we camp at Carolina Beach State Park.

The donuts were some of the best I've ever had! Flavors of all kinds like turtle, fruit loops, s'mores, key lime, wake n bacon, etc. There's something for everyone to pick and enjoy with anything from singles to dozen boxes with coffee to pair it with this is a must stop on your trip to Wilmington!

This donut shop is so busy it must be good. Whoever is writing reviews for the ?great? gluten free donuts have obviously never tried them. There are gluten friendly options and the texture is rubbery when you bite into it. The frostings and glazes are fine, but the donuts are absolutely terrible. Go for the regular donuts, but do not make a special trip for gluten free donuts or you will be disappointed!

This place has the best donuts I've had in a long time. My only issue was with the customer service. Nice young fellow that served us and has the potential to be an excellent salesman and could really boost this shops sales if he would only engage more, meaning making eye contact, staying present in the moment and not checking out during the engagement. I felt like I was sent to an abandoned island when I started to order.

Wake N Bake is our favorite donut shop! Their donuts always taste and look amazing! Also, I'm not really sure how they do it but, their gluten free donuts are out of this world! They are so soft, like a cake donut! The staff is always so friendly as well!

Wake n Bake is not only the best donut place to be at but also is a great environment to meet really amazing people. The staff there is friendly and makes sure that your taken care of and the food is amazing. I love the vibe and how you can also purchase cool items to take home. We don't live near here but every time that my family and I come down to get away, we are always excited to see Danny and his staff! You have a customer for life. If your not at Wake n Bake then what are you doing with your life? Lo

Great little place, donuts are excellent. Service is excellent.looking forward to tomorrow's choice

Omg! A must visit! Huge variety of coffees, donuts, and apparel! Friendly staff!

I really enjoyed my visit. I met and learned a lot about the owner. I ordered the pumpkin pie stuffed Donut. It sounded great, and looked so filling, but I have my doubts because I am very picky when it comes to texture and softness of the bread items. I got back to my hotel, got a plate and utensils, and started cutting it. The Donut felt harder that I expected, and as the knife was cutting through, I got the feeling that the Donut is going to be dry. Boy, so thankful that I was so wrong! It's actually ve

Great selection of donuts. The Oreo cheesecake is amazing! It's hard to choose a favorite! Buy a dozen to try an assortment. We also ordered the pop tart donut. It was huge! It was a donut stuffed with a poptart, topped with maple glaze and bacon. It was tasty! You can't go wrong with whatever you order!

They have such a wide variety of donuts here! So if you want a unique donut, then this is the place to visit. When I got there they had 2 different kinds of gluten free donuts left, a cappuccino and a glazed. They both tasted wonderful, but the texture wasn't like a normal donut (which wasn't surprising considering it is gluten free). The worker was super friendly too!

Really disappointed in the doughnuts. The toppings and fillings taste like they came out of a tin can. Was hoping a specialty doughnut shop would have quality toppings and fillings that were homemade. Didn't finish either doughnut. The actual doughnut wasn't very fresh and it was 9am. Plain latte was ok. Staff was super friendly and helpful.

Best damn Doughnuts on the planet. Even better crew of doughnut crafters! Great merch too! Best of luck!

Stopped in to try one of their donuts and coffee. I got the peanut butter donut. It was ok. Nothing to write home about. They claim to make their donuts fresh every morning, but it certainly tasted more than a few hours old. I think I may have gotten one from yesterday's batch. They have many flavors to choose from. I would most likely give them another try.

Stopped by this past Sunday afternoon around 2 o?clock with three friends. Apple fritters are usually large, puffy, quite a bit of apple filling and tasty. This time they were flat as a pancake and very little filling and flavor.!!!! I ordered a small coffee and it was only half full and was like syrup. A large coffee was fill up to the rim with no room for creamer. One of the guys needs to get off his phone. they both need to learn customer service.

2nd time there in last month. Boston creme hardly any custard. Strawberry donut barely any jelly. Coffee was old. Very disappointed And not cheap.

Got a dozen doughnuts and so far they have been good. I've tried two of my 3. Boston creme could've had a little more cream but it was good. Service and atmosphere was fine.

I like that it?s local and cozy and that they have their own creations and are constantly creating new varieties. I got an apple fritter, which was huge and only $2.99. It was absolutely delicious. I also got a couple glazed donuts, a couple cinnamon and a chocolate cream filled. Everything was great, but they did seem to get hard/stale pretty quickly. As long as you eat them shortly after purchase, it should be fine. Very good donuts and I would recommend them, but no better than Krispy Kreme, which are

Best donuts ever! I?ve never had a bad donut there, they are all soo good! My fav is the Carolina Sands. And let?s talk about those apple fritters, OMG! Hands down the best go to place when you are wanting something sweet!

Wake N Bake is a local favorite ? my family and I treat ourselves to yummy donuts, with favorites being the Boston cream, chocolate glazed with sprinkles, and always one of the fun funky ones (we switch it up!). Delicious, fresh, and always great service! Love them!

Our favorite Donut place on the island! Coffee is amazing and staff is always so friendly! Highly recommend making this a must stop if you are visiting Carolina Beach!

Cute place at Carolina Beach. We went here for breakfast because we stayed at the Carolina Beach State Park, and it was literally around the corner. Fun atmosphere, super nice staff - very helpful, and lots of interesting donut choices! The hubs and I walked away with a cookies & cream donut, a chocolate frosted donut and a blueberry fritter. Along with a caramel macchiato and an iced chai tea latte. Our beverages tasted very good! Disclaimer; we are donut snobs. The hubs even worked at an amazing donu

They were my all time favorite donut shop until recently. They recently decided to get political on Facebook. When they recently posted trump eating a donut I made a comment stating that it was a bad business decision to get political. I was told to ?calm down? and within minutes they blocked me. I?ve been a loyal customer for years but I will no longer get my donuts there. Whoever is in charge of their social media is doing them no favors. I?ve shared the post with all my democratic friends and local

We were there on Saturday morning at what seemed to be a difficult time for the staff member. It didn't seem to be staffed properly but the young lady (Sydney) was very professional and handled everything well (despite an older man being very disrespectful to her). She is definitely an employee you should value. She handled a very overwhelming situation very well. This young lady deserves a raise/bonus! Our Penaut Butter Get Bizzy donuts were AMAZING as well as the oreo and m&m donuts. Thank you Sydney

For some reason there was dog fur all over the place. Donuts kind tasted like Hawaiian rolls with icing on them. I love Hawaiian rolls but not as a donut. Place kinda smelled like off as well. Maybe they?re nose blind.

Superior donuts and tasty coffee served at this laidback local shop. Service was friendly and fast. Make sure to get there early since they sell out of the popular options before 10 am.

Love these donuts and all the different flavors! My son's favorite place to go after soccer. The fritters, Samoa, Carolina sands, and cereal donuts are the best!

It was sooo nice I went twice! I immediately fell in love with Wake N Bake Donuts. Legit Heaven on Earth Phenomenal Donuts. And you better believe I got one of those mugs and a hat tooo

I?m a sucker for the Carolina sand and the maple and bacon. And I gotta have fruity pebbles and fruit loops! ?and the espresso. Ok? so half the menu!! I don?t live here anymore, so I get my friends to bring me some. ?? especially the seasonal ones!

Blueberry fritter? Cinnamon sugar cream cheese donut? Yes, please! If you like perfectly executed donuts and unique sweet treats, do not miss this place.

5 for gluten free doughnuts! Best doughnut I've had since I had to break up with Krispy Kreme years ago. Thank you for making such treats for us! Regular doughnuts were a hit too- and they are BIG!

Super friendly staff with unique and delicious donuts and coffee drinks. There was a donut variety for every taste preference. Loved the vibe and will definitely come back when we are visiting the beach.

Fantastic place with surprising and bold flavors that are so fun. We tried an assorment. Local favorites are the Wake n Bacon and the Carolina Sand. The titles are fun the taste is amazing. The most interesting was the Dat Ghost Fire, a Ghost Infused Chocolate. The cold brew coffee was on point and the staff friendly.

Went in here for our first time because it was recommended to us. We walked in about 10 am (11/23/24) to have a decaf coffee and donut. Was looking at the donuts while the sales person was sitting on his phone. No greeting. Asked if he had decaf coffee and he said only decaf espresso??? Didn't even look up from his phone! Very disappointing, so we left. Someone should teach him some customer service skills, just might increase sales!

I think that was actually the best donut I?ve ever had. Good Carmel macchiato too

The perfect treat! The man who served us made things easy for my first visit inside. I mean seriously, who wouldn?t want a donut topped with potato chips or one smothered in bacon? OR one covered in cereal?! You have to check this place out! ??

Wow. I mean wow. I don't understand how this isn't the first shop that pops up when you Google donuts in California beach!? So many unique and fun options and each one better than the next. We tried a dozen very elaborate and delicious donuts between the whole group and there was not a bad word to be said about any one of them! The coffee while good is not their highlight. It is Dunkin donut quality with starbucks prices. So give or take the coffee. The donuts are about $2 a piece, but well worth it. I high

The young lady behind the counter was fantastic. Made us Latte's, and a doughnut. Both were delicious. Will be back.

These donuts are amazing! So many incredible options. Super friendly staff, willing to answer any questions and give you suggestions. I got half a dozen and it was hard to narrow it down to just 6 flavors. It was a little expensive, but worth the extra cost for the uniqueness.

Consistent and scrumptious. First visit today in 5 years because we moved away. So glad to find they're still in business and still had my faves plus lots of new yummy things! Best donuts on the beach!

These donuts are absolutely amazing! We went on Mother's Day so there was a slight wait but worth every minute!

Great donuts I love the maple bacon ,donut holes, apple fritters and my favorite donut is the key lime pie when they run that special, but all their donuts look delicious

My go-to donut shop. So much better than the Dunkin I was born and raised on. My favorites are the glazed and filled croissants and the fritters. Yum!

Great donuts and coffee place. Although the price was a little higher than most donuts place I?ve been to before, The service was excellent and the quality of the food was outstanding.

Can?t say enough good about this local owned and operated spot. Great coffee, awesome fun donuts, and just a good local fun vibe. Thank you for always giving great service and contributing to CB.

Danny and his crew offer a wide variety of fun and different donuts in a family friendly environment. The donuts are yummy and employees are very welcoming

The owner makes rude comments on Facebook and then makes fun of people when they try to correct the behavior. The donuts are dry, they never have anything in stock and overall the atmosphere seems like mean girl vibes all around.

Favorite donut shop in the Cape Fear area. Donuts are fantastic (wake n bacon is my fave), coffee is great, and they sell the coolest sunglasses around!

There are a lot of varieties of donuts and coffee, but it's really the novelty they're selling here. My creme filled donut (my go-to when trying a donut place) didn't have any creme in 85% of it, and the poptart filled one tasted less like a poptart than I would expect and was too rich for 2 people to fully consume. The guy working there was super friendly and outgoing, willing to answer questions and provide recommendations. Unfortunately, the donuts were just ok. Might or might not return.

Vacationer or local, this is the best places for innovative and spectacular donuts and coffee. There is a spicy-ish cornbread option on weekends, for those who don't do sweets in the morning. They celebrate 4/20, and made the viral tide pod donut! Laid back place where everyone a great sense of humor.

Great bakery, great place to eat and mingle with friends and family?.they hang there own art and merchandise which is cool all the food is made from fresh from scratch every time I go in the place is clean and inviting/ well kept! Very professional bakery/ Resteruant, all my friends and family enjoy wake & bake donuts!

Something for everyone! From super frosted sweets to cheesecake donuts to a simpler glazed donut. These are NOT your ordinary chain store treats! So yummy!

While on the way to a grocery store on vacation I saw this place and my heart skipped a beat, I love doughnuts. Wake N Bake Donuts is a must do if you are a doughnut fan, the fritters are huge, the bacon maple is delicious, the Samoa is just like the fav cookie, and did I mention they have amazing coffee? Recommend the cinnamon latte and a Mable bacon doughnut. Wake N Bake doughnuts is heaven!

Reasonable priced delightful: A foodie who couldn?t put it down faster from coffee espresso and all the baked delights . I personally tried 5 different kinds and was left full and ready to buy more come early they sell out quick but so delicious perfectly cooked and balanced in flavor and texture.

We always love our doughnuts when we stop on the way to or from am excursion on the island. So many good choices, I've never had one I didn't like!

Pretty much waited in line for a little bit to get service and whenever it was my turn, a lady skipped right in front of me and I was never acknowledged so I didn?t leave with anything. I appreciate that.

Apple fritter, Carolina Sand, and Wake n Bacon are the business ?? When family is in town, this is an essential stop. Staple for CB and a gnarly spot to grab both something sweet and caffeinated.

Wake N Bake is delicious! We tried the pumpkin pie stuffed donut?amazing!! Also loved the couch potato with chips on it. The staff was really kind too. Wish we lived in the area, we wanted to try one of each!

Fantastic variety and many interesting and delicious selections. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The prices are serious, but the donuts are seriously delicious. It was also great to find real gluten-friendly options at a donut shop.

The minute you open the door, expect a delicious smell of donuts is ready to welcome you. Crazy selections of donuts. The staff are awesome!

Maybe my experience wasn't as good as others because I went later in the evening. I got a dozen leftover donuts. The dough for the donuts was really dry. For the price of the donuts and quality I would not go back. The staff was pleasant and helpful.

Fresh and dry donuts. Little bit of a line but worth the wait!

We went here for the first time this weekend and oh my goodness the donuts are fantastic!! Some of the best I have ever had, so soft and massive in size. Would definitely recommend and will be coming back on our next vacation!

Forget Britts, this is the gem of Carolina beach for donuts. An apple fritter bigger than my head. Pie stuffed donuts. Pop tart filled donuts. So fresh and delicious. Always a stop on my trips to the beach.

My favorite donut shop EVER! I've only ever tried the donuts but they have other items as well, including beverages. They have the craziest donut ideas that are delicious and have even won donut contests on the Cooking Channel. My favorites are the Slimm Shady and the Samoa. Highly recommend visiting either of their locations

The staff is super friendly and the donuts are very good. They have a large variety of donuts. Vegan and gluten free options are available. The espresso vegan donut is really tasty!

Came down for our honeymoon and Wake n Bake was the closest donut shop near the campground and my wife wanted donuts. So we pulled up. My wife got big and fluffy Chocolate glazed and I got the blueberry fritter. My word. That fritter was HUGE. It wasn't overly sweet as you would expect from a supermarket or Dunkin. But I have to say that I think that maybe my eyes were bigger than my stomach. Lol I couldn't finish it. And the girl who took our order even put "newlyweds" with a heart on my coffee cup. I h

The donuts are dry and meh. Whoever manages their social media page is very racially insensitive, unprofessional, classless, and has an extreme lack of ethical etiquette. Childish and immature.

WOW. Wake AND bake? what a funny name. Sam is a Michelin star donuteer, one of the finest to walk this earth. when selecting a donut for consumption, be sure to check out the daily donuts (today is blueberry and it?s AH-MAZING)

Absolutely LOVE Wake N Bake Donuts! Best variety of the most creative, delicious donuts I have ever had, outstanding flavorful coffees and espresso, 5Star customer service, and hip ambience! Take the whole family! (Pictured, Strawberry Cheesecake) In these trying times, remember: Donuts Are Essential!

Lots of fun options. We stopped in after seeing them on Our State and I'm glad we did. My toddler was mesmerized. Wish there was a way to warm them up, nothing beats a hot donut!

One of my favorite donut shops! Every time we're in pleasure island we make a point to come in!

Overrated. Donuts too thick and dry. Flavors and toppings not the best quality. The look better than what they taste

Not your average run of the mill donut shop. These donuts are flavor bombs. Ordered the PB Get Bizzy, bacon cheesecake and a s?mores.

The absolute best chocolate iced donuts and fritters I have ever had! Those are my favorites but everything they have is delicious!

My family was on vacation and I wanted to try doughnuts from somewhere other than Krispy Kreme or Dunkin. This was the first place to catch my eye in my Google search. I really wanted to try a fritter but unfortunately they didn't have any once we got there. It was understandable considering we arrived just under and hour before they closed. The employee that took my order was phenomenal! He was very friendly with my husband and myself and super patient with our three kids as they picked out their own

The donuts are so fun, my kids loved theirs, apple fritter was wonderful and the girl working was so nice!

Donuts are unique and delicious! A little pricey but worth it! Some of the best donuts I?ve ever had! Staff is always friendly and quick. We make sure we visit once or twice while we are down on vacation.

Very quick service even though the place was packed at about 9:30 a.m. on a Thursday. Little hidden gem. The donuts are extremely sweet, more like dessert donuts rather than for breakfast. Decent pricing. $13 roughly for a dozen.

A large and varied selection of donuts. I had the Wake and Bacon donut which i enjoyed.

Wow just wow ?? The guys at the shop were super nice. Donuts are banger.
