Vortex Doughnuts

Stopped in for the first time this morning. If you want a donut, Vortex is THE best spot. It?s the freshest, most delicious donut I?ve ever had. There are a ton of options, almost all of them vegan including the cream-filled ones! The chocolate cream donut filling tasted like fresh cocoa and was just the right amount of sweet (not overly sweet like a Dunkin? Donuts). The BEST doughnuts we have ever had!! I recommend the maple flaky sea salt. And the employees were all so sweet. We are from out of town and they gave us a bunch of good recommendations for other places to try.

We make Vortex a frequent stop as the pups love the walk downtown and we love the donuts! Salted Caramel and apple fritters are our staples but we are often tempted by the rotating flavors Vortex has to offer. Matt is a kind and friendly presence who?s greeted and helped us the last several visits!

One of the best donuts I?ve had. The old fashioned is literally a top tier donut. The salted caramel was also amazing. Lots of seating available. Parking out front too. Lots of coffee and other drinks available. Definitely add to the list if you are visiting or want to try a new donut.

I came here because it is highly recommended and it is all over the Internet for one of the must try places in Ashville. With high hope walking in, atmosphere is excellent. Very friendly staff and tasty doughnuts. There isn't a huge selection of doughnuts but they are all freshly made on site. I would recommend the blackberry cream cheese cake doughnut. It was very good and I have never had a doughnut like it. The doughnuts are definitely more expensive then the grocerystore though so plan to spent around $3 per.

Loved the vibe and outstanding counter service! I had a wonderful ?Ginger Me Timbers? ginger coffee beverage that was heavenly! I also ordered 4 doughnuts that were good, but not excellent. I don?t know if it?s because I?m not used to vegan doughnuts, but I felt that some of the usual guilt was missing.

Wonderful donuts - texture was fluffy, but chewy and just the right amount of sweet. I especially liked the salted caramel one. The americano was lovely as well. We sat outside and enjoyed the beautiful weather. Paid parking was across the street.

Variety and quality of the treats was outstanding. The have several non-vegan as well as gluten-sensitive options. The vegan and non-vegan ones are equally delicious! Excellent donuts in Asheville!! The texture is phenomenal, so light and fluffy with the perfect density. They also have a great selection of gluten friendly donuts but you have to show up early for those before they run out!!! We ended up back two days in a row and the sweet girl working remembered us and welcomed us back :) will definitely visit again next time!

I've been on a serious donut kick lately and Vortex did not disappoint. We waited for about 45 minutes to order and it was totally worth it. If you are looking for something quick this may not be a good option for you. We ordered every flavor they had. They have two options of donuts (yeast & cake). Despite visiting Asheville once a year, this was my first time trying Vortex Doughnuts. I love cake donuts, and these were fantastic. The old fashion is perfect with a cappuccino. Other standouts for me were the cream cheese doughnut and the espresso doughnut. That said, they were all very good. We had the best service during our 2nd visit to Vortex Doughnuts. Our daughter is allergic to eggs so this is a rare experience for her to enjoy a doughnut. Everything about our experience was excellent. Incredible vegan doughnut choices.

We?ve been to Vortex Doughnuts numerous times over the years and loved it, but our latest visit was awful. We got two cake donuts - chocolate and cinnamon sugar - and they were terrible. Hard, crunchy, and no flavor. Disappointing and certainly not worth the calories. We ate two bites and tossed them in the trash on our walk home. We also got a dozen donut holes and they were the same. So sad to see the decline in the quality of the donuts.

Vortex Doughnuts will satisfy your doughnut cravings and will keep you thinking about their deliciousness for months afterwards! I wish they had more locations, but I would love to return to try their other flavors!!

Some of the best yeast and cake donuts that I have ever had. You can tell they really care about what they put out. Also had an apricot fruit or which was out of this world with fresh apricot inside and the contrast between the sweet frosting and the sour apricot was amazing. The cream cheese donut is out of this world. Pretty much everything is really good try them all you wont be disappointed.

Amazing donut place with awesome vegan donuts!! The base for their yeast dough is vegan so almost all the yeast donuts are vegan except for a few that have non vegan toppings. There were like 10 vegan flavors when we went! So amazing and fluffy. They've also got great coffee, nice shop, and very friendly people. Highly recommend! They've also got daily deals which is a nice touch. Love this place!

Best doughnuts in the South that I?ve had so far! Absolutely worth the wait. This place felt like home - we are from Portland, OR, so finding a high quality doughnut shop was right up our alley. The vibe was upbeat and inclusive, really awesome staff and delicious coffee to pair with incredible, unique doughnuts. Will always eat here when visiting Asheville.

We finally got down to Vortex doughnuts and they didn't disappoint. Ordered a combination of yeast and cake doughnuts and both are amazing. The Cubano (cortado) was delicious. Everyone was really friendly and someone shared my girlfriend's Instagram story about 5 minutes after she posted and tagged them. Love the vibe inside and we will be back.

I was looking for vegan donuts but I don?t like chocolate so I ended up trying 4 different regular ones. The apple fritter was my favorite, actually had apples chunks in them- yum! I'm a donut fanatic. This place offers cake and yeast donuts for all kinds of donut lovers. The mango pistachio was my favorite and the seasonal Orange Yerba mate paired well. They even have local art you can buy and take home! I've been looking for a donut place in NC that could compete with west coast style donuts and this place is one of my top 2 in the state!

Wow, is all I can say. This place was incredible, great coffee and fantastic doughnuts! They offer dense and light versions to appease anyone and their namesake Vortex Doughnut was a hit in either dense or light option! Super friendly staff, some nice local art, and a lot of unique flavors available. This is a new staple for us when visiting Ashville and one of our most talked about spots from our recent trip!

Love stopping by Vortex! The doughnuts are SO good. Plus the coffee is great! I like that they have plenty of vegan and gluten free options. I love the yeast doughnuts but they also have cake ones, perfect for when I go with friends who have different tastes. Definitely worth a trip!

Impressive vegan and gluten free options! Went on a Sunday and ate delicious donuts. I tried the old fashioned cake and espresso flavors. They were great. Service was relatively quick, even with a line when I arrived.

I'm usually not a big fan of donuts..but Man oh man! Just look at them....?? These are actually the Vegan ones my husband & I tried, They're really good it's scary.?? This place was kind of a disappointment. My cappucino was really good but that was it. The espresso donut didn't taste anything like coffee. The cream cheese donut was yummy but the icing was liquidy. La Luchador coffee tasted watery and the added flavors didn't stand out. The front counter was super disorganized. Our server was nice but we would not personally come back here.

Best donuts in the area easily. Lots of selection without feeling overwhelmed. I suggest the blueberry cream cheese donut. The vegan classic glazed is really good too. They have good espresso and you can tell they put a lot of craft into their drinks.

Vortex doughnuts are not that great. Everytime I have tried the they just tast dried out. Cool name though. Much rather have Krispy Kreme or Duncan ??.

Great homemade donut shop on the south slope of downtown Asheville. They have a great selection of flavors. Interesting enough, each flavor comes in cake or yeast based donut. Parking along street, or in a lot that's not being used nearby. Staff was very helpful. Definitely will need to stop in again.

5 stars for the cream cheese doughnut alone. I'm not sure what the other flavors are, and it doesn't matter. If you order a single doughnut here, make sure it's the cream cheese doughnut. I?ve been here a number of times and I?ve really only been disappointed once. The doughnuts are always good but the selection rotates somewhat so your preferred flavor may not be present each time you go. The staff are very nice and knowledgeable. Donuts are phenomenal! Placed a small catering order for our wedding and the process was seamless. They even let us bring in our own sprinkles earlier in the week to use on one of the donut selections. Would definitely recommend working with Vortex Doughnuts.

We stopped here today for a doughnut, and it did not disappoint! Since it's not an entirely gluten free facility they can only say their doughnuts are gluten sensitive but they were delicious. Would highly recommend!

I think these just might be the best doughnuts I?ve had! So good! The yeast doughnuts are super light and airy yet still substantial. Lots of unique flavors and options for different dietary needs. Loved the blueberry sprinkle and the raspberry pistachio!

This has some of the best donuts ever. I was visiting Asheville for the weekend for my bachelor party and we stopped there in the morning for breakfast. I would definitely 100% recommend this place. I live in Durham and there is no where anywhere in the Triangle that even comes close to the amazing quality of these donuts. This was an amazing stop while in Asheville for the weekend. Vortex Donuts is a great stop! They have a good assortment of donut flavors to choose from, a friendly staff and a clean dinning room. You can choose either cake or yeast donuts. Both were delicious, but we preferred the cake as it was crisper and found that the yeast taste took away from the chosen donut flavor.

Wow!! We try to visit a doughnut place on our road trips throughout the USA. My wife loves a good doughnut and swears she will be buried with one. I travel a lot and I am always looking for a good donut from a small, non commercial bakery. Service was slow. Stood in line for 20 minutes with only 4 customers in front of me. These were not good donuts. I can?t say I?ve ever really paid attention to the temperature of a donut until today. The 4 donuts I had today at Vortex came direct from the display case and were cold. Not room temperature cold but refrigerated cold. They were fresh, just cold. On top of the temperature, they just were not that good.

Try to come early or close to opening, because they may not have a great selection an hour or two before closing. It was a struggle to fill a baker's dozen between the basic options left and the low quantity of them. I try to hit doughnut shops whenever I'm in a city where there is a place that is worthy of hitting. And Vortex is up there with the best of them! I got a couple different kinds of doughnuts (their glazed and a cinnamon flavor) and they were exceptional. In terms of flavor, texture, and freshness they were perfectly done. I grew up in Portland, OR and this is the first place in Asheville I walked into and felt like I was home. Expect a line if you go in at 10am on a Sunday. They've got cake donuts, gluten free donuts (but not celiac friendly, I assume as it's all made in the same kitchen), and yeast donuts. Cool breakfast spot on my way out of town. Bright, airy interiors and an array of different flavour doughnuts. I had the pumpkin lemon one and also the Vortex, both were delicious. Super light and fluffy! Would recommend checking out when I?m Asheville.

Cool place with a good donut selection. Very trendy with some murals around as well. The Cubano was delicious and the avocado smash was huge and tasty.

We bought 4 doughs (2 cake and 2 yeast, apple fritters and filled doughnuts were sold out) at 1:45pm (closes at 2pm) for $10. The cake doughnuts were brown with a crispy edge which we like (chocolate glazed and a vortex, sugar cinnamon with a chocolate drizzle) and the yeast ones were soft and pillowy (chocolate glazed and a glazed). We will go earlier next time to try the fritters & filled doughnuts.

Staff was snoby, I wanted a specific fritter and received the look of death, it's as if they were paying me; and I still didn't receive the fritter I wanted. As for the doughnuts cake was better than yeast, peanut butter cake was redeeming and fritter was good. Other flavors were a disappointment.

Staff is great here! The ambiance is fantastic, really industrial cool. And the doughnuts are amazing! They have both vegan and traditional varieties. It is so hard to find good vegan doughnuts and this place kills it! You can't even tell they are vegan! If you hit end of day, you can get doughnuts for half price, too! I highly recommend it!
