Vegan Donut Gelato

We've been searching for good vegan donuts near San Fran and this spot is by far our favorite! If it wasn't advertised as vegan I honestly wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Definitely stop by if you want some delicious donuts, it's worth the drive.

Great vegan donuts with the feel of a classic donut shop. I got the glazed donut and a matcha with oat milk. Both were satisfying.

The best donuts in the Bay! Their custard filled choc/maple bars are extraordinary, as are the jelly-filled donuts, apple fritters, and frankly everything else I've tried. I believe it's a family-run joint, and they're always super kind and helpful. We've been known to drive an hour out of our way to load up on their stuff, and it's NEVER a disappointment!

Super nice family run ?hole in the wall? with great vegan fare. I?ve been in search of the perfect banh mi in Oakland and this checked all the boxes. Keeping in mind they are vegan, the Vietnamese fake deli meats are delicious as usual. The mushroom pate adds umami, and the bread is fresh? crunchy crust and soft inside. Perfect! I sipped on a Vietnamese coffee while I waited, no need to worry about lactose intolerance kicking in. So tasty! I?ll have to try their donuts at some point.

I don't typically like donuts, but these ones are really good. The Vanilla Sprinkles raised donut had the perfect texture and was delicious. Definitely try this place out if you get a chance! I'm so happy that they're vegan!

Been here several times over the course of 10 years. Always friendly and reasonably priced. As with any bakery or donuts shop I recommend going as early as possible for the freshest product.

We moved here from Chicago, where yeah? the winters were freezing and the hills were nonexistent. But the pastry and coffee game was on point. Here near Lake Merritt, Vegan Donut Gelato has the donuts covered. Their classic yeast raised donuts are delicious and include toppings and flavors like Oreo, you classic birthday sprinkles, Boston cream, and cinnamon crumble. I?m still hoping for crunchberries, but would visit again!

I love their donuts, and I was so excited to see an expanded menu with spring rolls and banh mi! They are 100% vegan and we love them!!

Amazing donut place. Am from out of town but in the Bay area for a bit. I?m vegan and tried all the donut shops in San Francisco but all of them only had cake options and most were dry and bad. Was in Oakland and saw this on the maps, so I stopped in to give them a try. I tried the apple fritter, strawberry, blueberry, donut holes, maple cream, and Boston cream. All of them were 10/10, also the Vietnamese coffee is a must. Good stuff thank ya?ll!

As a vegan I?m so grateful this place exists. live off 18th and enjoy walking over to grab an old fashioned maple donut. The donuts are yummy and service is fantastic. They?re so friendly!

Great spot! Only came thru to pick up, didn?t stay too long but the service was quick & friendly. I got the raised blueberry glazed donut, the baked strawberry glazed donut, a plain old-fashion & a dozen of donut holes. A bottle of water too because it was super hot out! Can?t wait to come back & try their gelato! I?m surprised I haven?t been here yet, will definitely be coming back again soon if time permits!

The donuts are good but it?s very expensive. $3.75 for 6 donut holes is ridiculously pricy. I bought 3 regular donuts and it came out to $12

Go in the morning (we were told they sell out of most of their popular items in less than an hour). Every donut we had was amazing! My favorite donut is the classic glazed - like Krispy Kreme but SO much better and vegan! Very friendly service too!

March 2022 update: we really miss the old owner but the quality hasn?t changed too much so we keep coming back! September 2020: We?re not vegan but we?re here a few times a month because it?s that good. We come back for the bear claw & chocolate custard donuts, but the old fashioned and regular donuts are delicious too. And the owner is super nice!

This place is nice. Although I went after the morning rush, there was still a great selection of vegan soy free doughnuts! The doughnuts taste amazing!! Try the apple filled bear claw or the strawberry filled glazed doughnut...mmmmm! Yummy! Also, friendly service!

Vegan raised/yeast donuts are so hard to find, yet Vegan Donut Gelato has them and in so many delicious flavors. Ordered 10 donuts & some donut holes for delivery while I was in town. This spot is an instant must-visit for me in the Bay Area! My favorite was the matcha donut. The frosting cut the sweetness perfectly.

This place is very dangerous and it should come with a full disclosure warning. It is vegan crack for me, I love every donut that they sell but my favorite are the classic - old fashion and glazed. The donuts are just so perfect in every way - size, texture & of course flavor.

They are supposed to open at 8. I drove all the way here and would forgive for them not being open but standing outside freezing watching them lazily place donuts out 10 minutes after opening and totally ignore me! This was my favorite place but they lost a loyal customer!

I?ve tried many vegan donut shops around the country (I have lived in a lot of places but also, humble brag) and this is my favorite! I love the owner, the prices are fair, and the donuts are always good. My favorite is the cinnamon crunch donut (top right in my photo) or the fruity pebbles donut although I haven?t seen it on the menu in awhile.

My wife and I stopped at Vegan Donut Gelato on our honeymoon and LOVED it! The donuts are fantastic and made fresh daily, so you're always getting the best of what's available. We got four items and could barely keep ourselves from getting more!! Friendly service too from what looked like the owner. Can't recommend them enough!

They didn't speak good English. They were not aware of the new advertisement for the $5 box's that are out. They only offer the kiosk inside. They got my order wrong

Vegan donuts galore in Oakland! Super friendly service and felt amazing to be able to choose absolutely anything. Donuts looked and tasted delicious and smoothie was great too. Can also recommend the apple fritters.

My husband and I are from Louisiana and are not vegans, but we heard about this shop on a previous visit to Oakland and made it a point to go on our most recent visit. I am not a doughnut fan, but I absolutely loved these vegan doughnuts, which were much better than any other doughnuts I have had. We ate the apple fritter in the store and left with some of the chocolate & peanut ones, along with matcha and mango. We also bought one with sprinkles for our grandchild. Everyone loved them. These are massive low quality donuts. I bought a half dozen, ate one, and tossed the rest. I've literally never thrown away a donut before in my life. I did not try the gelato.

This is a shop with awesome food and is a hidden gem in its locality. The owner is really nice and is a dedicated vegan. We had a nice conversation and he was very accommodating. The donuts were also really good. I have not had a cake donut like they have. Most cake donuts I have eaten are dense, but the blueberry donut here was light and fluffy like a good cake and had a very fresh blueberry taste to it. I would readily recommend this shop.

So good! I?m not even vegan but I love their donuts. It is on the pricier side due to ingredients so expect to pay up. I also really like their Vietnamese coffee but again, it?s pricey. They sell a lot in the morning and by noon, the pickings are slim so get there early if you want the best selection. Very nice owner who is passionate about the vegan lifestyle. They are currently open only from Thursday-Sunday.

Thank goodness I do not live super close to this place, I would be extremely obese because I?d go there twice a day. Their donuts are that good!!! Wish I lived a little closer though ?? Got the matcha donut? twice, because my hubby and I had to make a second round. He got a variety and loved them all.

I have no words to fully express how magical and amazing this place is. The donuts are all vegan and have the perfect flavor variety and consistency. They are soft, moist and will have you questioning rather or not its actually vegan. The gelato is full of flavor and mouth watering. They have create something really special, I have never had a vegan donut this delicious. Highly recommend.

This place is amazing for vegan donuts. Have gone twice and no donut has disappointed. I got the custard filled both times but the apple fritter was my favorite of other donuts friends got. The people working are also very friendly and helpful, and gave everyone a free donut hole when I showed the yelp checkin. Obviously also very affordable. Cannot recommend enough.

Most perfect doughnuts everytime and any kinda always satisfying! Gelato is just as amazing! Super nice service always. I come far out of town just to make it early here before they sell out. Great option for vegan goodies. I went by around 10 and the donut selection was a bit slim. Looks like there's a lot of demand for their stuff. They have Thai tea too. One star taken off for the following reasons: 1. Limited offerings. While things getting sold out are a good sign for an establishment, it's reasonable to expect some level of demand forecasting so that enough quantities are made available. Man this place is great. These donuts are so good you would never no they are vegan. The staff is super nice. Prices are better than any other vegan donut shop I have been too. I heard about this place from the butcher's son in Berkeley, they sell their donuts there daily. I will definitely be coming back to try the gelato. Best Vegan Donut Shop EVER!! The man who was running the donut shop (didn?t get his name :( ) was such a friendly person, we had a great conversation and he?s been vegan for 37 YEARS!! The prices are amazing and the donuts are even more amazing :D the gelato is SOOOO GOOD! I got rocky road and cookies and cream. I?ll definitely be coming back :) HIGHLY RECOMMEND! They make the best plain old-fashion donut I've ever had. All of their donuts are awesome. Be sure to go early and get an apple fritter before vfc they sell out (which usually happens around noon. We place our order the night before.

I bought vegan low sugar donuts. They were awesome for my son's birthday party. No fuss, no mess. Next time I will pre-order as they only had about 24. Owner was very nice. Will be back!

Delicious donuts loved by vegans and omnivores alike. I'm a big fan of the cream-filled donuts. They have both cake and raised donuts, and both classics (glazed, maple bars, chocolate sprinkles) and seasonal and specialty options (matcha, heart-shaped for Valentine's Day, and so on). The owner is a great guy (who speaks 4 languages!), and I'm so grateful he brought this franchise to Oakland.

Very happy to have an all vegan donut shop in this neighborhood. There are many varieties offered: twist, fritter, jelly, sprinkles, bars & more. They remind me of the classic donut shop treats, but they are vegan so way better for the planet!

A few days ago I picked up a dozen donuts from vegan donut gelato and they were amazing. Customer service was the best, I even tried their new thai iced coffee, very delicious. It was worth every penny. All vegan.

Donuts are unreal and the owner is the so friendly and sweet. I also love that it's not an overly "hip" location like most vegan places these days. The donuts do not disappoint!

I live in the neighborhood and enjoy the aroma every day. The maple bars are incredible!!!! 4 out of 5 'cause I'm retired and they are a bit pricey for me Update: had what I think is a honey bun. Amazing donuts, the store was small but clean, the gelato had great flavor but was not the consistency of gelato. Not sure what milk they use but maybe cashew would work better for that gelato thickness? It was still good tho and I will be back so five stars! Best vegan donuts I?ve ever had!

I love Vegan Donut Gelato! The donuts are classic. They've got cake donuts and raised donuts, with sprinkles or without, and with chocolate, vanilla, maple, and red frosting. Plus bear claws, apple fritters, and long johns. And soon they'll have gelato! It's very exciting.

Vegan Donut Gelato replaces a vacant space that used to be Fairway Park Donuts & Ice Cream with a similar shop only everything here is vegan. It's a father/son duo business with special emphasis on vegan donuts. For now donut is the only thing available, but by early to mid October they'll have gelato made with almond milk. With fourteen flavors available on any given day and its most popular cheesecake flavor, it'll have lactose intolerances folks coming in droves. I'm not a vegan, but had to give it a try

This is the best vegan doughnut I've had yet! My husband and I ordered a half dozen, one if each of the following- custard filled maple, Oreo crumble, orange, maple bar, apple crumble doughnut, and small cinnamon roll. I'm always a fan of filled doughnuts and new flavors. We came at like 3 or 4pm and had a good selection but the front desk informed me that morning obviously had a bigger selection. The orange doughnut was DELICIOUS..omg. This spot definitely has the upper hand when it come to uber flavorful
