Vegan Bistro Donuts & Cafe

This is a shared store with the Banhmi shop. Although I came for the banhmi, the donuts are amazing. If I hadn't purchased this myself, I wouldn't have believed the donuts were vegan. They are indistinguishable from non-vegan ones. I'm convinced we don't have to use eggs or dairy to make donuts after this experience.

I really appreciated having a vegan donut option around the hotel I stayed at. The original donuts were tasty. The apple fritter was so so. I enjoyed my freshly brewed coffee drink. I did go when it was almost lunch time and the donuts were dwindling in choices. Perhaps go earlier! Still recommend for a fresh vegan donut fix. ?? Staff was friendly! This shop shares a building with the ban mi shop.

Awesome vegan banh mi and the only 100% vegan banh mi place in SJ. Didn't try their donuts or gelato but they looked amazing. Def recommend. I also had their passion fruit smoothie...best I've ever had. They now have a "breakfast" banh mi that's amazing anytime of day. Love this place. It's Buddhist owned business which committed to love and no harm to animals. We need more of this place in the world.

I was happy to find vegan donuts near a family's home. I was pleasantly surprised everything was vegan friendly at this bistro! I ordered a dirty matcha latte ?? This vegan bistro in downtown San Jose is a hidden gem! I had the pleasure of trying their ?Ocean of Love? sandwich, and it did not disappoint. Beautiful selection of great-tasting, fresh donuts. A friend heard of Vegan Bistro because they host vegan gelato from Loafy Shark Desserts. We tried it today and enjoyed a selection of donuts and made-to-order smoothies. Service was prompt, professional, and friendly. Great for vegans and non-vegans alike.

Came for an early morning meeting and was greeted by amicable staff. Plenty of seating indoors. Street parking can be a bit chaotic. The berry smoothie was great, not too sweet. Pastries looked good and several customers bought some. Ambiance was relaxing. Bathrooms were clean.

This place is a hidden gem in downtown SJ! Delicious vegan donuts, close to home. They're light and fluffy but don't get too excited about deep and complex flavors. The Boston Cream was good but not overly flavorful. I also tried the fruity pebbles which was pretty good. Nonetheless, I'm pretty happy just to have them around as a treat- beggars can't be choosers.

It?s rare to find vegan donuts in the Bay Area. I must say they make really delicious ones and have a lot of flavors available. Their custard filled donuts are so good!! I will come back again whenever I have a sugar rush!!

Love their donuts! The only one I didn't like as much is the lemon cream filled donut, I found it too sweet. The other ones I got are all 100% awesome, my fav is the soy custard filled donut! And they have banh mi now! Where else can you find footlong vegan banh mi for 8? And 4 different flavors!

Great selection of vegan donuts! I tried the donut holes, sugar and chocolate bar. They tasted on par with regular donuts Just want to update six years later. Still as good as ever! Even non-vegan family will enjoy these. The drinks have been mostly good.

I had a giant cinnamon twist, the size of a fore arm if not bigger. It was delicious and very solid, could but cut in half and shared. Full dozen doughnut holes to go. And boy did they go.. right in to my mouth one after the other.

these donuts are unexplainable. They start off as a different flavor and progressively get better every bite. I highly recommend if you're in the area and they're not as expensive as you'd think for high quality donuts. 10/10!

Flavors were good, but we were there at 9am and it was really obvious that the donuts were not made fresh that day, which was a little disappointing. They were a little dry. The woman behind the counter, however, was SUPER nice and helpful and recommended places for us to have a good vegan lunch.

Ok I was super excited about this place to "cater" an event recently. I say cater, because a donut wall was a highlight for the event and when you buy multiple donuts, it can classify as catering (per moi). Fantastic donuts and drinks! You wouldn't guess that it's vegan because they're just really good donuts. I personally love the matcha latte. Banh mi that just opened with them are also AMAZING. Very delicious vegan donuts with many varieties to choose from! My favorite is the custard donut with chocolate frosting but I also like the blueberry and matcha donuts. I like that the donuts are sweet but not overpowering, fresh, and the dough has a great chew. The staff is nice and patient as I can take a long time to decide, lol. They do a great job keeping the dining area clean and tidy, as well.

Donuts are double the price of a mom and pop donut shop; not sure why they are so bloody expensive especially in this run down location of downtown San Jose. Go to Stan's or Manley's for better prices and fresh donuts. The ambiance of Vegan Bistro is nice inside. Didn't try the smoothies everyone is talking about.

Must visit! They make their apple fritters just how we like them (a little bit toastier). All the other donuts are perfectly sweet and pillowy. Their coffee is delicious (the Vietnamese iced coffee was too sweet to pair with the already sweet snacks, but we loved the lattes). The new owners (since a few years ago lol) are super nice just like the former ones. Lovely!

My whole (vegan) family loves the raised donuts from this place. I asked yesterday (3/28/21) about the rumor that they're closing and they said it's not true. These donuts are up there with Donut Friend in L.A. and Destination Donuts in Columbus, OH -- the two best other vegan raised donuts I've had.

This place is surprisingly great. I'm not vegan but was looking for a local Cafe and everything I had was better than 99.99% of its non-vegan counterparts. The glazed strawberry jelly filled and cinnamon glazed doughnuts tasted and had the consistency of a prefect regular doughnut. The oat milk cappuccino I had used good quality coffee beans(not sure if it was freshly roasted but it tasted as such) and just had a very pleasant feel and taste in the mouth. Wonderful selection of donuts, all vegan. The strawberry-filled was fluffy and not overly sweet. The super smoothie was also not overly sweet, despite being mainly made of fruit. Can't wait to go back!
