The Donut Nook

The Donut Nook

Reviews Summary

The Donut Nook is widely praised for having the best donuts in Chico, with many calling them the best they've ever had. Highlights include fresh, fluffy donuts, especially the apple-filled Bear Claws, devil's food cake, and apple fritters. The friendly, family-owned atmosphere and 24/7 hours are big pluses. However, some complain about inconsistent freshness, oily textures, or cold donuts, and the cash-only policy is a drawback for some. Lines can be long, and parking is tricky, but most agree the quality makes it worth the wait. A few negative reviews cite rude staff or homeless presence, but these are outliers. Overall, a beloved local gem with exceptional donuts.

Customer Reviews

I loved visiting here with my friends during our late night donut run. The atmosphere was great and the service was amazing. We got extra donuts with our dozen and they were very tasty. ??

This place is ABSOLUTELY so delicious!!!! Fresh, tasty, so many options, even a blueberry old fashioned!! Bakers dozen, cash only, and open all the time! The Tiger Tail reminded me of high school when I used to frequent a different donut shop early in the morning before school. The viewing window is a pretty cool feature to see the bakers baking. Definitely recommend to anyone who likes tasty fresh donuts. We totally ate them all pretty quickly. Thanks for all the deliciousness.

This is the best donut place in Chico! Their donuts are always fresh and they obviously change out their oil frequently cause the taste of each donut is heavenly! We appreciate the grueling hours you all keep cause sometimes you just need a donut at 10pm! Thank you donut book for being so awesome! If you haven't gone, go give them a shot you won't regret it! Please note, they are a cash only business. They do have an ATM on site if needed.

Still the GOAT. No offense to the other donut shops, but I honestly don't know how they're still in business at this point. I wouldn't get donuts anywhere else. If the Nook is closed, I'm not buying going elsewhere. I'll just wait until they're open or try again another day. I highly recommend the chocolate chip squares.

I LOVE THE DONUT NOOK !! Talk of the town is that DONUT Nook is the best in town ! And I agree... no place better... various hot and cold drinks, coffee. ATM on site as it's a cash only establishment. And a vintage arcade game. Plenty of seating and tables. Certain times abs day's there's a line lol, but worth it !

Who doesn?t love a donut 24 hours a day?! I had just finished up with my DoorDash shift and thought I?d surprise the family with some donuts for breakfast. Hopped on Google maps and found this gem of a place! Well stocked with fresh and delicious donuts of all kinds. I haven?t been to a shop with a better variety than this place. Service was quick and friendly. They accept cash only, so for your convenience, they have an atm machine right there so you don?t have to go elsewhere to get cash. I highly re

Best doughnuts in town. Can't beat $20 a dozen

The donuts are delicious. My favorite in Chico. This is a family owned business. I think many of the employees are members of the family, so it's a nice local Chico spot. The people are friendly, and they have a nice selection of donuts.

These donuts are ??. Hands down the best I've ever had. Believe a big back when you hear one -I know a good donut ????! ??

I've been going here on and off for over 20 years and the quality has never faltered. Always a great selection of delicious doughnuts, fresh coffee, and just an awesome experience. Prices are fair. Be aware: they are CASH ONLY! So get some cash from the ATM before going in. It's worth it. Pay attention to the hours. They're 24 how several days of the week, and that's what drew me in first. We would finish a late night radio show and then head over to the Nook for some tasty donuts at 3AM. It is wondrous.

I love to snag myself a doughnut now and then. The apple-filled bear Claws are the bomb, but you must get there early in the morning before they sell out! Coffee and other beverages available, too

I love the donuts, theres lots o different flavors and they are very tasty. A nice energy boost in the morning, or a tasty dessert

Awesome donuts! Large, well frosted, glazed or filled. Moist cake, huge claws, and fritters. I just wish they accepted debit cards. There's an ATM inside, but of course, it charges a fee.

Lines are long in the evening. Some of the staff are rude. Donuts are good. But it?s a bit scary going in there are certain hrs at night because there are a lot of homeless inside sitting and outside on

So in the grand scheme of things, this is likely the best donut spot in chico. I am unaware, but it might be the only donut spot, that I know of in chico. While the atmosphere borders on small town charm and in need of a HGTV makeover, the product produced, is worth it. When you come in, you are often greeted by a baker, fast at work putting together some fried creation, and you see it happen right before your very eyes. The staff have always been very friendly, informed and helpful during my experiences

This place has the best donuts in the entire north state in my opinion. They are fresh and great tasting and the variety is really awesome too!

On Valentine's Day they sold out of donuts!! Before noon. Poor planning. IMO. Everytime I have gone there they have no selection. And only had sugar twists. Yuk, not my favorite. Their hours are hit or miss. Just not the best. Wish Krispy Kreme was still open here. It's closed down now.

Two stars max for this place. I gave it an honest chance and all I can say is that The Donut Nook is overrated. The donuts here are very fluffy and oily, borderline undercooked. One apple fritter will soak through the bag in an oily mess and fall apart from gravity. A quality fritter should have a pronounced crust and crunch and maintain its shape. There are multiple issues that I have noticed with this place. On the weekends, the line is out the door and most people are buying large numbers of donuts

Had some clients come into our shop earlier today and found out donut nook is open 24 hours thats so awesome we always get off late never get up early especially to eat so it's super convenient the kids live it they have fantabulous donuts and a window where you can see them being made the kids love that and the employees are nice its always clean and the prices are super cheap its my go to for donuts ????

Best donuts in Chico. I do miss the fruit corners and custard squares. The hours are a bit weird, but the people are amazing! I highly recommend the apple fritters. It's a cash only business, and a dozen will set you back a little over 20 buck, minimum. There is an ATM in the seating area, but bring your own cash to avoid the convenience fee.

Stopped in to grab an apple fritter and left with a dozen because they all looked so fresh and appetizing along with my coffee. Apple fritter was so soft and warm with chunks of apple and not overly sweet, perfect.

Best donuts I've ever had, it's hopping busy cuz it's so good. Service is quick and friendly.

We ordered a dozen donuts and got one extra for free. Which was amazing!! There were soo many options to pick from. So it was pretty hard to pick. And the donuts are huge and soo delicious. Definitely recommend them.

great doughnuts, can get busy , worth the wait as the line moves fast

Staff always helpful and friendly. Best donuts I've ever tasted in my life. Always stop in at least a couple times a month and get a huge box of these amazing fluffy treats.

Cash only - ATM on premises. I cannot believe the hours and the prices of this donut place. I feel like I?m transporting back in time when I walk through the door. The donuts aren?t the crazy gourmet donuts that are all over social media, but they are the kind of donuts that the whole family will love. They are also very affordable. We got so many for just so little. The vanilla cr?me in my maple glazed eclair (I think) was very good. And I got this animal cracker donut? Never seen that before. The hours ar

I really appreciate the fact that they open their doors late at night and early in the morning. It's perfect for those of us who enjoy late-night outings or need an early start to the day. The atmosphere during those hours is often relaxed and inviting, allowing for a unique experience that suits different schedules and lifestyles.

Went in at 10pm. I asked for a random dozen donuts, gave me more like a mountain full of donuts. They were very good as well.

The donuts are amazing. Not even greasy! I'd not had a maple bar that good in years. It was actually dough, not greasy holes with maple on top. We tried several types and they were all so good. From the outside it doesn't look like much, but so worth the goodness on your insides lol. We went around 9:30am and still a great selection. The feel is older style, which was kinda welcoming to me. They had coffee available as well.

I came here often as a child, and have returned now, more than 20 years later. This place was and is still a gem. The years I've been gone I've always held other donuts up to this standard and have been mostly disappointed by other shops. The tenderness, flavor, amount of filling and overall quality can't be beat. Hell, I've only found a few, in 20 years, that can equal this place... Hat's off for bringing back fond memories of my childhood... Perfect 10.

This is a Chico staple for early morning sweet eats! Not only do they still bring out the original favorites but they also have some of the more modern and imaginative seasonal doughnuts too. I have to say I haven?t found a better apple Fritter in town and can honestly say it beats most doughnut shops in all of Butte County. Bring cash unless you want to stop at the atm in the lobby but it?s a wise choice as it keeps the quick line flowing. They offer the essentials coffee milk smoothies and their prices ar

The staff are all incredibly friendly and the donuts are beyond delicious. Their hours make it very easy to satisfy a craving at all hours of the day. #1 donut shop hands down.

Top notch all around. Great donuts. Friendly service. Donuts are much more expensive than they used to be. But it's a nice treat and they taste great, and the employees are friendly.

Best and lightest donuts I've ever had!

Best Donuts in Chico. Go with the Bear Claw

What do I consider a perfect donut? A donut that doesn't make the roof of my mouth scummy. These donuts meet the criteria which therefore means they are awesome especially the maple bars or maple twists. Mainly stick to those so can't talk about other kinds except the apple fritters and cinnamon rolls are awesome also. Reasonably priced. Excellent late night snack.

Its a great place. Donuts ?? are always fresh and the best. They do have different hours to be sure to check before going.

Amazing donut shop! One of the best experiences I've had. The shelves of donuts were fully stocked when I walked in. There is an ATM in the store, as they are cash only. A dozen of donuts are about $24, and a dozen donut holes are $2.50. Beautiful variety of donuts. Some I've never seen before, like a blue berry fritter, a strawberry filled donut, or a peanut butter chip filled chocolate glazed square. The buttermilk bars were very large and delicious. The old fashioned regular also had the most spectacular

Had an issue. They went above and beyond. Needless to say, I returned and paid 4x to show my gratitude. The donuts were made to perfection! They hire some great people here.

Doesn?t matter what time of day I come here, the donuts always taste old. Today I had one that was so cold, I would have thought it was pulled out of a freezer an hour before. Go somewhere else if you want fresh donuts. Also the parking lot is always a death trap

Put wrong donut in bag, ordered chocolate twist & when I got home found maple. Chocolate chip /maple square had fewer chips then last time. And prices went up again ??. Good donuts but guess I'll give them up, not worth the $$

I've only been here about a half dozen times over several years, but every time I've had a good experience. Warm, friendly staff and great donuts. If you can catch the apple fritters when their still warm they're the best. The fact its open 24/7 and owned by the same local people for decades is a plus in my book too.

Most expensive donuts I?ve ever paid for twice the amount for any dozen I?ve ever gotten and they have the nerve to be cash only so even more with the ATM fee. The donuts were good. But the cashier was rude. They didn?t give me a donut box but an open Sierra Nevada cardboard box.. won?t be going back.. 1 star for the Pac-Man machine but nothing else

Best donuts I've ever eaten. I've traveled many states and been to many donut shops. This is the best one I've ever been to. Their selection is incredible. There's cinnamon rolls are the best in the world.

There's nothing not to love about this place. As a lifelong Chico local, I've seen many donut upstarts crumble to their greatness, not even Krispy Kreme could hang. Donut Nook ran them right out of town. It's cash only but they have an ATM for you. You can find me at the old-local-fellas table 30 years from now. Best donuts in the game.

I absolutely love this place for donuts, and every employee is always nice and friendly. My major gripe here is that they do not accept credit/debit cards. I understand the overhead involved with taking these, but they would receive a lot more of my business if they did since I have to make an extra trip to get cash out (I don't carry any with me). Other than that, I highly recommend!

Best donuts in butte county, cash only

NOTHING beats these classically made doughnuts to perfect and the amazing staff who serves them up!

Clearly the best donut place in town, or the area for that matter. Bring cash.

Been coming here on and off for a few years as I'm not a local and come when I'm in town to visit family. I travel a lot for work and these are the best out of all the places I've been. These donuts are truly THE Best ever. Maple square is absolutely my favorite! The dough they use is so fresh and fluffy, not dry and hard, it's absolutely perfect. We had a Donut Polooza for Christmas this year, because my family in Southern Cali asked that I bring some down with me; they love the Apple Fritters and Blueberr

Turns out, cash business. Great donuts, had a blueberry old fashioned today. Yum

These donuts are very overpriced compared to other shops. Donut options are limiting. The cashier was very rude to me. Tacky and low-class brunette. A true Karen she is true. She had a dusty musty looking face. I am not even going to call her a lady. In small towns in Mexico they take cards and this dump is like living in the stone Age. Get it together not coming back here ever again. I never like to bring up race, but it was my first time there and I noticed they are extra mean to minorities. 15 dollars fo

The doughnuts were pretty good, the gal behind the counter was very nice, but I didn?t appreciate how the donuts seemed to be just thrown into the boxes, especially as it was for a birthday. Also wasn?t a big fan of the flavor of the custard filling; I?ve definitely had better custard elsewhere. And $50 for two boxes of doughnuts is pretty outrageous, though I understand things are getting more expensive these days and this is a local business, but when you?re paying that much, those doughnuts should look

Appealing display of their doughnuts, and I was very excited about their apple fritters. Unfortunately, they were a disappointment because they were too doughy, too brown on the bottom and not enough glaze. You buy fritters because you want the crunch, sweet taste, but without the thick doughy texture.

Great donuts. I used to go to Dolly'o's in Paradise before the camp fire burned both of their locations to the ground and since have been trying to find a donut shop worthy of filling their shoes, but I don't have to look any further. Great donuts and open 24 hours, what's not to love. Highly recommend!

The crumb donut is fantastic; the best I?ve ever had. Also, the chocolate and peanut butter is delicious, as one would think with those classic go-together tastes!

The donuts are always fresh and delicious! They don't skimp on the toppings or flavors. It's the only donut store I go to, and it's simply in a league of its own. It is cash only, and they have an atm conveniently located inside, if needed.

Donuts are always ready to go, and fantastic. They DO NOT take card at the register, they have an ATM available in the store but the charge is quite a bit to get out $10-20 for donuts. Just come prepared and you won't be disappointed.

This is another place that I used to go with my family when I was a kid. Every Saturday after soccer games in the morning, we would go to the donut nook to get maple bars and chocolate bars. The place hasn't changed in 30 some odd years.... But there's no reason to. You can't make perfect any better! Best donuts I've ever had.

Best donuts in town! & any time of day ur craving a donut or just something fresh & sweet .. they are open 24 hours a day.. most everyday! Love that!! My favorite is the maple bacon.. but they only do them on Fridays so gotta be quick and get one while they have them! So yummy!!

I stupidly walked in here without any cash and tried to buy a donut...(its cash only, I didn't know). A female employee was kind enough to give me the donut for free and just said "its ok, next time". Least I can do give you guys a 5 star review. Thanks!

The best donuts in town! Hands down. Pro tip, go late at night and they are fresh out of the oven. You're welcome.

Love their donuts ?? Today, I was at this place and was glad to know they're open 24hrs. I like how the staffs talk to their customer like they're family .

Wow! One of the worst donuts I have ever had! How is the donut cold when the place just opened?! It tasted like it was a day old or something. So bad, I'm sorry. Don't go here. Just no. Had to throw it out. So bad it made me mad. So bad I would give it 0 stars but that isn't possible so I will give it 1 star.

If you want great quality donuts made from scratch every morning in a large assortment of options. This is the place! Not only are the employees welcoming and friendly but this establishment has been here for decades serving the community and people every day that love to get their fix. If you're trying to impress your boss or encourage your employees, you got to get them donuts! Don't forget to bring cash!

Best donuts south of Redding. The only other spot that comes close to this is Jack's donuts in Anderson, CA. The donuts are on the thicker side like a real donut should be. They are very tasty and they have a great variety. My favorite so far is the twist with chocolate and carmel sauce drizzle.

Always fresh always quick. Better than Krispy Kreme. People work there always friendly no matter the time.

So glad we didnt loose our sense of smell or taste with covid the first thing we craved were these donuts OMG they surpassed our cravings and they were day olds too! Magnificint! My son is a very happy boy! Thank you Donut Nook cant way to catch them hot and fresh sometime!

I love their donuts every single one I've had has been great. Get there early if you like jelly filled because they sell out fast. My wife wishes they made cream filled along with their custard filled but they don't yet. All in all the best I've had in Chico.

Nice service, place empty around 2 PM. Bought a dozen, got 13 thank you. Variety that agreed on one thing: very sweet, and average with countless donut shops visited over the years. Size in some extra large, but all icing, be that maple, chocolate, etc. just as any donut place. Brought them to a reunion so as not arriving empty handed, and upon tasting one fritter it dissipated all expectations for something like the word grandiose. For the reviews so fervently attesting to some kind of special, sugar spell

Best donuts in town! Chocolate chip squares! Great employees. 1 arcade game left. They used to have more. Cash only with an ATM.

Oh they're freaking great. They're bomb Love this place. Always a great selection, always fresh, always ready and always hot. Unlike all the people that like to complain about the masks. No masks, no problem. Go woke go broke. These guys are awesome. Keep up the good fight y'all

just amazing, opened always and always fresh but still cheap. They are always in a good mood and nice to you doesn't matter if day or night. Big respect for this store.

Best donuts in Chico. They?re worth the price 10:10

Whenever someone says "THE BEST DONUTS ARE *insert wrong answer here*" I just lean in close, 2 inches from their nostrils and flare my eyes open as I whisper back, "Yeah but have you had the Nook?" There will be a day where the Donut God who works here is no more. Likely the day tribulation begins. But for now, we are blessed and in a time of peace as he continues to provide the best donuts on planet Earth. Thank you Donut Nook for all you provide. God Bless the Chin.

Never thought we'd find a place we liked as much as dolly-o's up on the ridge let alone a place we liked even more but alas!! This shop is the best I've ever had! Been going here since the fire and it has kept our Saturday morning donut tradition alive! This means more to our family than you could possibly imagine!

Awesome donuts! They have an amazing selection. They have donut holes and cake donuts if you want a small one. Their twists, squares, and fritters are huge. Remember to bring cash because they don't take card. Not too expensive either.

Not only the best donuts in Chico, but possible the whole county! These guys have taken donuts to the next level in fresh made - around the clock - deliciousness. My buddy said ?I want a donut? (at 9pm) and I said: ?where are you gonna find one that?s not hard as a rock or out of a box at this time of night!?? He showed me this place and I?ve never been anywhere else ever since!

The staff is always super friendly. Whether I come in and buy a dozen donuts, or one donut with change, I've always been treated very well. I absolutely love the cream filled donuts! Especially the cream filled chocolate bar. They're kept in the fridge, which honestly makes me wonder what's in all the cream filled donuts that aren't kept in the fridge...

My son has been going here for donuts and hot chocolate for the past 15 years. Always good food and clean.

Best donuts in Chico and surrounding areas as far as I know. Around 8p.m. there are fresh donuts on the shelves cooling. Yes 8 p.m. They are open late. Buttermilk bars are the best. Try it, you'll like it....maybe even addicting.

The best donuts in Chico, a very close second to Dolly 'O Donuts in Paradise. Great selection, awesome freshness, and a decidedly delicious selection of fritters. Don't miss the tiger tail! Cash only! They do have an ATM on premises, although I go next door to my bank's ATM before I come in to save the ATM fee.

The best donut I've had In a long time. There is usually a line, but it moves fast. Lots of seating available inside .The parking lot is small with only one driveway in and out.

Best donuts in town, def some of the best donuts i have ever had. I dont even want to say this because they are already hard to get, but the devils food cake donut with chocolate icing is fire. The staff has always been extremely nice and friendly to me when i come in, and extremely accommodating for special requests.

Doughnuts were amazing! Great selection, great customer service, and they sell milk to go with your sweets. I definitely recommend for a treat. Yummy!!

One of our favorite places in Chico. The staff is so friendly, and the donuts are incredible! If you?ve never made the pilgrimage, I highly recommend. Even as someone who doesn?t often like donuts, Donut Nook is a favorite.

I work a 12 hrs shift. I always enjoyed coming to the Donut nook after shift. I haven't been in for awhile due to the fact that they are actually dipping fresh donuts in sprinkles or sugar etc not wearing gloves. I watched her doing this, then adding donuts to a customers bag. Then she goes back to her work station continuing dipping donuts, never wash hands. With our world be upside down due to COVID-19 we all should practice good hygiene wash your hands wear gloves when preparing food.

This is, hands down, my absolute favorite donut spot in Chico... or anywhere, for that matter. The hours are super convenient, especially for a late-night snack. The prices are reasonable, especially if you're able to get your hands on any of the day-old donuts. The maple-bacon donut on Friday night is mind blowing ??. And nothing beats a fresh, warm original glaze from there with a nice, cold glass of milk. Then, finish it up with the classic game of Galaga that they have in the lobby. Unbeatable.
