The Bakery & Cafe @ Angel Fire

The Bakery & Cafe @ Angel Fire

Reviews Summary

The restaurant receives mixed reviews, with many praising its breakfast items, pastries, and cozy atmosphere, particularly highlighting dishes like omelets, French toast, and baked goods. However, several complaints cite rude service, slow wait times, inconsistent food quality (especially for non-breakfast items), and cleanliness issues. While some customers return regularly and recommend it, others had poor experiences with staff attitude, portion sizes, or incorrect orders. The bakery section is frequently mentioned as a standout, but service and consistency appear to be recurring concerns.

Customer Reviews

Excellent breakfast, although you have to go before 11 am to get hash brown potatoes. The diced ones are just as good. I had the huevos rancheros with a side of sausage. They were awesome. This place is a must! Great service from a great staff. The place is clean and comfortable. UPDATE! 8-26-2023, Great everything...breakfast / brunch. Omelet, salad, corn dog, eggs, bacon, etc. My family loved this place. Come one, come all and enjoy.

We LOVED everything! Our bakery goods were fantastic! Probably the best sweet roll I've ever had! The balance of flavors perfect! The burrito was so satisfying, the red chili sauce so good! I would eat here every day if I could! Great service too! ??

Service: ?????????? Food: ???????? Ambience: ?????? Price: ~$12 per person including tip Opens daily from 7:00 am to 2:30 pm. Very attentive service, they offer complementary donuts holes once you sit, it has a warm and homie feeling. Average per person was about $12 including tip. they have limited seating, but available for groups up to 8. Food takes a bit longer than usual to come out. One bathroom gender neutral it didn?t look sparkling clean, but it was good though. it?s a great option for breakfast i

First time trying this place and it was ok, my son loved the breakfast burrito and I order breakfast plate. The only thing I didn?t like was the cappuccino, machine cappuccino doesn?t taste good and was too sweet. Other than that, everything else was fine.

Excellent. Good food and the staff was very nice. Even when the dr pepper came out watery they were quick to replace it.

Chicken fried steak was great. My Wife had the red chilis burger and it was very good, spicy but not too spicy. Very Friendly staff. Will be back to try their donuts.

The gentleman who greeded us upon arrival was so warm and nice! Food was excellent and fresh!

Charming local cafe with friendly service. Highly recommend the green chili cheeseburger - fresh ingredients, perfectly cooked and seasoned. Great find!

We met friends here for breakfast, and boy was it worth it! Everything was delicious and of course added green chile infusion. The library exchange is a great idea, and I look forward to winter when they start up the wood burning stove.

Was able to sit outside with a great view of the mountains! Dog friendly outside. Cinnamon swirl french toast was great as well.

The food was great. I had biscuits and gravy. The people were very friendly. I highly recommend this place.

Alexa was really rude to my small family for no reason whatsoever, the food was stale and overpriced. Skip this on your trip.

Best biscuits and gravy I've ever had. Kids meals are good value. Oh and then there is an awesome pastry and doughnut selection. This place is a gem. Update: BLT on toast!!! Please and thank you! Awesome!!

Food was great!! Servers were very rude , with the exception of one guy .

Best apple fritter I?ve ever tasted!! This is a cute place with good food. We had a basic breakfast (omelets, bacon, scrambled eggs and sour dough toast). Came back the next day to pick up pastries. Apple fritter is amazing. Chocked full of tender apples, delicious glazed crust, perfection, in my opinion. Patio seating is lovely. If you get ?to go? pastry items, be sure to buy extra, you won?t regret it!

An old friend of mine recommended this place to my family we finally stopped in Oct and again yesterday for lunch the food and service are excellent. I would highly recommend this place if your visiting the area.

Hands down, one of the BEST Breakfast meals I?ve ever had!!! I ordered the Pancake combo, which only comes with one pancake, but you can order an extra on the side if you?d like. Their pancakes were pretty big, but delicious nonetheless! 10/10 if you?re ever in Angel Fire, I highly recommend!

Loved the food. Get the beef fajitas the meat is expertly seasoned. Staff was attentive and friendly even with a full house.

Reminds me of an ?eh? diner. Went for breakfast after asking around. This is also off season. Two adults and a three year old. Service was ?meh?. Had to restore order several Times. Wrong drinks came out. Ordered basic hasbrkwbs and pancakes, and kids stuff. Portions were small and taste wasn?t exciting. The donuts etc looked good, but never checked on, food was eh, service was eh and not worth the $20+ per person we spent. Sorry.

5 stars plus 5 more! This is a must stop place to have a breakfast/lunch! The staff is so friendly and welcoming!

We had a group of ten . They got us seated at a long table and a 4 person table. The food was good and the bakery items were good. Everyone was full when we left and some food was left over. Ski season was over so not to many people came in but some came just for bakery items. This is an older building but comfortable. The wood stove added warmth to a cold day and it added a nice atmosphere. They have a little library place down by the stove.

Highly recommend! Had a group of 11, and everyone was satisfied. The fire burning was great for the ambiance. Reminded me of being at my great grandparents as a young lad. Everyone had something different off the breakfast menu and ate till we were full. Staff was friendly, and they had great music playing in the background. Should definitely plan on giving it a try.

Food was awesome, James said best Posole he has had in years.. Chips were homemade too Server was very nice also

Love this place, stop here ever time we are in the area. Donut bites are amazing!

I came here bc of the reviews and photos. I ordered Mexican food and it was very dull and basic. Not many desserts available like pictured in the reviews. I ordered posole soup as a side and it came out in a sample size plastic cup. When I asked if this is the normal size, the waiter was rude about it. He did end up bringing me a larger size. The pozole wasn?t even good. Nonetheless, customer service and food quality just wasn?t good to me.

The Ultimate Burrito was huge and delicious! Donuts and pastries were awesome.. Cozy place with a fire place inside. Really nice outside patio seating area Dog friendly!! Service was great, family place We'll be back!!

A cozy little greasy spoon diner. The green chile is delicious! The staff is also wonderful.

French toast, oatmeal, pastries, eggs, bacon and hash browns were all prepared perfectly and served hot. The oatmeal portion was enough for two. It's a cozy, no-frills cafe, clean, tidy, and with a friendly, attentive staff.

There's a short, older lady at the front counter that was extremely rude. She was slamming silverware and coffee carafes around. Should've spent my money elsewhere. Took over 30 minutes to get my to go order. Will not be back, ever.

Definitely recommend, Breakfast was great simple home cooked meal, pastry?s are great too. Also doesn?t seem like a tourist trap restaurant, all the times ive been here it seems to be filled with locals.

Place was not very clean. Service was not good. Food was really bad. Omelets were dry. Toast was stale. Salt/pepper shakers were very sticky when you use them. Jelly was very old. Rating is why I went there and I feel these ratings are made up. Way too expensive for what you get.

This place rocks! The service was better than excellent. They baked and decorated a birthday cake for us in little over an hour. It was a chocolate cake with a citrusie flavor, butter cream filling and covered with a double chocolate fudge. The cake was moist, not too sweet and not rich, just perfect! We also purchased a couple of breads, one brioche, and one black berry, both delicious. We highly recommend this bakery.

Migas were excellent and good coffee. Standard 2 egg breakfast was good too. Save room for one of their pastries. The cinnamon roll was delicious.

Great service. This place has a great independent business feel to it. I also loved how they added shade to the tables that they put out to turn part of their parking lot into an outdoor dining area. It made for a pleasant place to sit and drink coffee. Unfortunately, the food was not very good. There is only one item on the menu that is vegetarian, and that is an all-day breakfast item on the children's menu. We found we could order a few dishes without meat, but they were just okay, not good. We were hop

Kids loved the bacon. Our server was not the best. She never came to check if we needed refills, or anything else. We had to ask a different employee for help, but all that employee did was go look for our server and we had to wait another 10 minutes (and no the place was not packed at all)

Was ignored and basically refused service because we seated ourselves due to a helpful local greeting us at the door and suggesting to have a seat. Menus and silverware already setup giving the appearance of open seating . Was then ignored and watched others served well after we came in. Guess it?s our fault we mistakenly trusted a local as wait staff and missed the sign saying to wait to be seated.

We were seated after a short wait just before 10am on a Sunday. Our waitress took our order within a few minutes. However, our table of four and a table of two next to us did not receive water and coffee for almost an hour. A table of three near us did not have their orders taken and they decided to leave. 3 tables near us were seated at the same time or after and received their drinks and silverware well before us. Our food, which gladly tasted ok, easily took an hour plus to be served. We did order toast

This place used to be really good. I don?t know what they did but we were ignored when we walked in, the table we were told to sit at after I got their attention was so close to another table that only one person could sit on that side where there were 3 chairs, the waitstaff was not friendly and didn?t know what food they have, the menu is wrong and items listed on it don?t even come with the meals. They need to get back to where they were at 2 years ago?.

The food was absolutely terrible and overpriced. The red/green sauce tasted from powder and tons of flour or corn starch. The chips and salsa came with 2oz salsa container . 2.50 to add 3 slices of raw jalape?o? The server was kind and hard working . Please tourists don?t waste your time here even for a quick bite. 100$ lunch for 4 and immediately stopped to get Pepto just incase .

Meet a friend here for breakfast at 8:30. Sitting was sit available and we were promptly waited on, but think our order got lost. Waited a very long time and finally had to ask about our order. Once we questioned about the order, we received it promptly. Food was good. Lots of bakery options, as well as a full menu. There is indoor and outdoor seating.

Very slow service, but I don't blame them too much for that given how short staffed they were. Food was decent, but nothing to write home about at all. My wife pointed out a dead bug on the floor (right in the middle of the restaurant walkway) to one of the staff, who responded by staring at my wife with a blank, unblinking expression for a few breaths before ignoring her completely. The smashed bug carcass was still on the floor when we left. Prices were quite high relative to the quality of the food. We

The wait staff was excellent that?s about it. The table top was missing screws so it giggled while we were trying to eat. Muffins are served cold. But the coffee was hot!

One of the locals recommend this place and from the get go I should have went somewhere else. Cashier not very friendly. I told her that The Bakery & Cafe was recommended by one of the locals. She said she did not know why, because there are other places that are better. Went ahead and stayed there to eat, waiter was really nice, food was horrible! Rib-eye has a horrible taste. Thought it was just one but all 5 rib-eyes ordered were bad. Should have took a photo but had to hurry and get out

The Jason's Special burger was juicy and one of the best burgers I've had in awhile. The rest of my family enjoyed their meals as well. Friendly staff. We were unable to try the bakery section this visit. However, from overhearing other's orders, sounds like it would also be delicious.

I just left this place 2 min ago and I rarely write bad reviews but this place deserves the worst. I have never felt so robbed to hand any business my money. The two people upfront paid no attention to customers and were laughing amongst eachother. The bathroom was broken and I needed to wash my hands when they also had no soap. The food was trash and again, the service was bottomless.

We decided to try breakfast here on Saturday morning only to be ignored for at least 15 min after we were seated. It was busy; however no servers acknowledged us or said will be right with you to us. Then 2 older ladies were seated at the table next to us and were promptly greeted by a server and their order was taken immediately. We decided to get up and walk out. Angel Fire seems to have problems with quality and service at their restaurants; and with being a resort town you'd think they would be a little

The gentleman was a kind server. The food was ok. The restaurant is clean. I would compare it to IHOP or Dennys food.

I eat here every time I am in the area! I feel guilty I am just now writing a review - because this place is really delicious - I always get a simple eggs, potatoes and cheese - very good! This last time I picked up some donuts for the kids and wow, they were great! very nice people - Just a good ole place to eat!!

Very small selection. Food seemed fresh and staff was friendly though.

Only place to stop and have breakfast, good food, chili could be hotter but I knows they need to be able to serve it to People from other states.

I can't fully review this Cafe. They were just about out of baked goods and we didn't eat breakfast there. But from the smells coming from the kitchen I wished we had! The counter person was great and friendly. I will have to eat breakfast there and get there earlier to check out all the baked goods to give it 5 stars!

When i walked in, they ignored us for a minute or two.. As i wait waiting for them to say something to me, i looked around to check out the available seating. There were 2 tables of 6 open, and a couple of smaller tables. When she finally said something to me, I Then asked if they were able to seat a bigger party (She just stared at me like i was crazy). I told her we had 16 people. All she said was "No". 1. I know that the bakery is small, but seems like they would want the business when clearly there WAS

Possibly the worst breakfast we've ever had! Ordered the Herman's Plate. Very little sausage, probably one small link cut into several tiny pieces. The actual plate was piled with frozen, tiny diced, potatoes that were deep fried to the point where they tasted like wood pulp. The pile was obviously to make the dish look like it was worth the outrageous price of $11.49. Don't understand the high rating. We'll never eat there again!

One of the few places open year round. Go early, it gets crowded quick! I had the cinnamon roll French toast; yes, a cinnamon roll cut in half and dipped and grilled! Amazing! The bakery was also great for next morning treats.

I had the biscuit and sausage gravy and it was excellent. I finished off my whole plate and that never happens. The servers were super friendly. It's sad they have gotten bad reviews. I think they were busy this summer and short handed on workers. Don't let the negative reviews keep you from this good breakfast place!

Really not sure how it has a 4.5 rating, cashier is rude, food is awe full (ribeyes have a horrible rotten taste). Even the cashier (wish I would have gotten her name) older lady with shirt hair, stated they were not the best in town. Waiter was great, most definitely tipped the water for his service it is not his fault that food is bad. Think there are like 3 restaurants in Angel Fire, don?t recommend this one.

The lady at the counter was beyond sweet - she really made for a lovely experience. Breakfast sandwich with crispy bacon and sourdough was just what I needed after a hike in the cold. The hot chocolate tasted like ?melted chocolate bars? per my partner. Great, cozy, no frills spot.

Stopped while driving the Enchanted Circle. Apple fritter and chocolate croissant were very good. Fritter wasn't greasy at all, which we have experienced at other bakeries. Worth the stop!

We ate here twice on our trip and the first time food and service were both great, but the second time we never even got our food. We finally gave up and went somewhere else. When we told the lady at the counter to please cancel our order (after waiting 30 minutes) she just shrugged.

Don't eat here. You will be wasting money. I live in angel fire and l don't go there any more. The staff (especially tall girl) needs to retrained to work in a town that relies on tourism. I wish I could give it 0 stars. The food is hit or miss it was good or very bad. How can you mess up a burger or pork chops that taste like road kill. Super rude and incompetent.

Wish I could give 0 stars. Ordered and payed online. Go to pick it up and they don't have our order, the lady said they don't have online order anymore and the order didn't go to them. We talked to the manager he took our order, said to come back in 10 min and they would have our food ready. Well fast forward an hour later and we got our food, except they mixed up the order with someone else and ended up getting the wrong burrito. Too much hassel to deal with it. They were giving food to other guests fo fre

The service was terrible. We had people come in after us and get their food before us. We had to ask multiple times if our food was almost ready and the waitress acted like we were an inconvenience to her. They were out of almost everything and the waitress joked when she came to take our order by saying, "we're out of... well everything." She proceeded to go on and on about what they were out of. We finally asked what they did have. We waited almost an hour for our food and when they brought it they had ch

Nice local place to pick up fresh baked items, breakfast, and lunch. Had the breakfast burrito. It's HUGE and flavorful; choice of green, red or both chili sauce topping. Also had the chili pork chop. Tasty! Clean restaurant, friendly staff. Recommended.

Food was not good, egg and potatoes tasted like they had been left out and made before we ordered them, not fresh. Service was good though. For tourist our of town they are strict with masks in New Mexico and wont serve u if so

Skillet was delicious! Server was very friendly and we were seated immediately without a wait which was perfect since we had our 4 yr old with us. Great coffee too!

We walked up to place and a black haired taller lady told us to put on a mask until we got to the table, so we did. We got to the table took our mask off, but not much later the same lady told us that we had to keep it on until our food got there . We ordered our drinks and never got them,15 mins later the tall blackhired lady told us that we can't eat at there table because we were "being rude". But which she was the one that was being rude and she told us to get up and go to the to go window and order to

This place was recommended by locals since we were visiting all the way from Houston.... we all ordered different things and noone was satisfied with what they ordered. The meat was chewy and tasted like it came out of a microwave. The french toast wasnt even cooked all the wa . The only good thing we tasted here was the toast and dr. Pepper.i dont recommend this place to anyone coming from out of town. Not worth the money .

Come here for breakfast every time we come to town. Omelette with hash is great. Place can get busy so you gotta time your visit if it?s a holiday weekend.

Quaint spot with fresh made breakfast, a favorite for our family every visit to Angel Fire! The omelette was perfect FYI

Cute place! Great food! Great service! Great selection and variety! Close to the lodge!!

It was cold in there but they had indoor seating. We got there right before 11 and we could do breakfast but no pancakes or French toast. Ridiculous!!! The food was ok, not spectacular at all. The staff was friendly but not too attentive, even for a small place. If you could eat somewhere else besides here, I would. I don't think we will be back unless it calls for desperate measures!!

Ordered the Huevos Ranchero. Potatoes and beans were cold, as were the tortillas. Just not fresh at all. Way too pricey, husband and I spent almost 40.00 for marginal breakfast. DO not recommend!!

always good. they have donuts and pastries too! Update: rude this morning, didn't care about customers, was simply told to order and get it to go or sit outside. We go here every time we come to town, this morning was very disappointing. Guess we will just go to country club for breakfast's from here on. Joes coffee down the street is super!

PORTIONS ARE HUGE!!!. Wife and i got the "hand held" burrito's...what they meant is both hands required. Food is good and worth the little bit of a wait when the place is busy. Daughter had the doughnuts and was gracious enough to share with dad. Everything we had was good and a definite stop in if you are in town. The side of the building on the left hand side has a great little photo spot with a mural.

Always a favorite, reaonably priced. Delicious breakfast, a fave of locals and tourists alike. Swarmed at breakfast over the week of july fourth, staff still managed relatively quick service with good attitudes. My family's happy place, and the free book exchange is super!

We stopped here this morning for pastries, planning to purchase enough for 8 people. I went in, stood at the counter while the woman working it helped two people, answered the phone twice, and continued to ignore me. I left. My boyfriend, who has more patience than I do, went in and received the same treatment. We have been coming to Angel Fire for several years and have been coming to this place for breakfast and donuts forever. We had breakfast here on Thursday and the waitress was friendly. Not the lady

We are in Angle Fire for our son?s birthday! We were snowboarded all day then went out and looked for a cake to celebrate. The bakery was closed but they let us in to buy a cake. The lady showed us a cake that was white and had skiers on it with little mounds of snow frosting. We tried to pay her for the cake and she said we could have it! Not only did she let us in after closing but she let us have the cake! I don?t think I can thank her enough. This was such a sweet gesture, so kind and completely made th

The waitress was extremely rude, we came and set outside, waited to order, no one came out, went inside got our own menus and set down and waited, no one came so I went inside and placed my order with a guy behind the counter, she came and told us rudely to go outside, sit down and wait for her to place our order, after we have been waiting and no one came. And there were no one but us. She should not be working in places where customer service required. And because of her this place do not even deserve one

I wish we would have eaten the Mexican food here over the other Mexican food place we ate in Angel Fire. We had breakfast and some really delicious green chili!

Today was my second time coming here. Both times the lady at the front sees you then ignores you for awhile. However today when she went to get my food ready while coughing uncontrollably opens up each to go box. Completely disgusting even if covid wasn't a thing, however we live in these times so proper care is especially a big deal. Anyway after the way I was treated and that nasty episode I just turned around and walked away.

Hamburger ?? was really good! Hot and the kettle fries were great. Order ahead of time, not that we ever do and don't have to wait long.

Old Hispanic lady working the register was so rude. After greeting us by saying what do you want I ordered a to go order. We sat down but was quickly yelled at for it. We were told to go wait outside for our food.

Very good breakfast, polite and friendly staff and you get donut hole breakfast appetizers. Good selection of donuts to go too. Definitely a great place to start the day before skiing

The food is absolutely wonderful. I really enjoyed my visit and we'll be back very soon. The food is still very good however they hired somebody who is rude to customers. They lost me as a customer when they hired her.

Best food in Angel Fire. Great atmosphere and decent prices. You get more than you can usually eat. Wish they were open for dinner as well.

Great place to eat a hearty breakfast. However, like any small town don?t expect to be in and out if you are in a rush. Food takes a little time but it?s worth the wait!

This was a disappointment. The food was good, but the wait took over 45 minutes. They were also out of almost everything on the menu. I wouldn't recommend this if on a time crunch or are hoping for something off the menu.

Had breakfast here several days in a row. Service was great and it was good breakfast food. Will probably be there tomorrow morning.
