901 Harrison Ave
New Orleans, Louisiana 70124
This place is wonderful. The buttermilk drops are the best. Just like I had when I was a kid at McKenzie?s. Staff is really nice and helpful. Highly recommended.
I grew up in New Orleans and haven't had a proper Raspberry filled powder sugar donut since I was a kid. We were there for Mardi Gras and we stopped in and got a few. I got the Raspberry one and it was absolutely perfectly delicious. It brought me back to childhood. Perfect flavor and amount of jelly and a moist donut. Thank you for making me feel like a kid again. ??
So I drive from Hammond la to get turtles for my mom who grew up eating Mckenzie's. Because they're great and she love's them. So I get her 2 dozen
The king cakes are stale! I know very well what they are supposed to taste like and the one I got Thursday was not edible! Do not go to the Harrison Avenue store. The manager is rude!
The home of the one and only Kastleburger, often immigrated, never duplicated. This location also doubles as a McKenzie bakery for your donut and classic king cake needs .
The king cake is ok, but the poboy was the absolute worst. It looks and tastes like they used precooked and prebreaeded shrimp from the frozen aisle in the grocery store.
Try the Buttermilk Drop Bakery on Dorgenois in NOLA. The drops are just as good and the staff is more welcoming.
I cheated on my diet and bought a chocolate eclair. It was so dry and stale I couldn't believe I was in a bakery. I've NEVER experienced stale baked goods in a bakery. You expect it from a convenience store but not a bakery. When I called them to complain I asked when they baked it. I was told they were made the night before. I find that very hard to believe. Terrible.
I've tried a lot of beignets in NOLA and these are by far the best. The owner was super nice and the service was exceptional! I can't wait to return in November. VERY CLEAN!
Came into this dirty ?cafe? about 5 minutes ago. This was around 10:30 am May 25th and it was a pretty bad experience. My father asked the girl working how long the food would take and the girl told him 5-10 minutes depending what we order and then mumbled ?this isn?t a fast food restaurant? under her breath. When I confronted her about it she didn?t seem to care about the way she talked to my father. She was an over weight white woman with glasses and the man working (who I assumed was the manager or owner
Easily top 5 donut spot in the city. Wish y'all would make more regular (fried) donuts with cinnamon sugar. Dey gooood, yeah... ?? ??
Always fresh & consistent!
Came in with my track team on a Saturday morning. They handled the bunch of us pretty well (and we were plenty hungry.) Friendly cashier. Donut holes were really good and pretty cheap. They had good seating in the back room for our small group. Parking lot filled up pretty easily though. Great breakfast stop overall!
I purchased two McKenzie king cakes and this is not McKenzie recipe. There's no cinnamon flavor anywhere. The icing tastes like play doh. The sugar falls ever where as soon as you cut it and bite into it. I had to pick the sugar just to have some when I ate. Highly disappointed.
I purchased two king cakes. Plain. There is no cinnamon at all. The colored sugar falls off. I paid $23.99 (each) for a loaf of bread, no flavor and 20 cents of sugar that falls off. I would not recommend this place if you looking for a king cake. Dissatisfied and disappointed on the quality of the king cakes at this place.
Always good. Sometimes gets long lines but that's due to a busy shop with great treats. Good for New Orleans traditional specialties and some new favorites. Buttermilk Drops, old school brownies, eclairs, Blackout Cakes are as good as I when I was just a kid. The omeletts and egg, meat, and cheese biscuits are great and shouldn't be overlooked!
Came here to have a slice of king cake, first of the season, guy (in the picture) was a jerk and didn?t even come to the counter to greet me. No slices available here, which is crazy to me.
Great donuts and treats. They have all of the old McKenzie's recipes and make several of their items. Butter milk drops are the bomb. King cakes are the old McKenzie style and flavor. Brownies and cinnamon rolls stre the old McKenzie recipe and great. Can't go wrong with anything from them.
Pepto Bismol! As a restaurant manager of 20 years, I suspect this unit does not filter and change their frying oil as needed. The breading on my shrimp was super dark, but my shrimp were not over cooked. Biting into a shrimp I could taste the burnt oil. I took my chances and ate my sandwich in the parking lot. When I was done, I took a trip back inside to the restroom, where I spent the next 15 minutes clearing my bowels in a violent manner. my next stop was the Winn Dixie for some Pepto-Bismol. My $8 sandw
The breakfast plate that I had barely had any food on it it was less than a scoop of grits, there was more eggs than anything and the bacon was so hard and it didn?t taste like bacon I also waited 30 minutes for the breakfast plate AFTER I ORDERED IT 15 mins prior! I am terribly under satisfied and will never ever return . I had to combine two breakfast plates into one to give to a person because it was not enough to feed one adult. Completely ruined my morning . I spent $22 onto breakfast plate and fou
Nice atmosphere but the woman at the counter was a real Debbie Downer. Everything she said was negative. It's was like she didn't want to work there and definitely didn't like the owner even though she said they were friends. That was so weird. However the place was nice and the doughnuts we're fresh. The chocolate eclair had too much frosting on top. That was a waste. Overall ok.
Yesterday for Mardi Gras was my first time st this restaurant and the cashier was so unfriendly there's an older guy behind the counter just straight rude. This is a terrible look for New Orleans. When working with customers at least a smile will show some hospitality i do not recommend this restaurant being a business owner with over 10k people followings on social media I will make sure they know how this place is. My friend was from out of town and needed king cakes we had to drive to the Kenner locatio
Best place in this reality, the McKenzie products are spot on to the ones that used to be made years ago. I love this place, gotten me through many emergencies when I needed something quick to bring. The staff is also the best. 5 out of 5.
TASTEE McKenzies is a nice quaint place located at 901 Harrison Ave, NOLA 70124. The thing I love is you can go any time during operating hours and get bakery items, donuts and restaurant food. The bakery items have some of the McKenzies favorites like turtles, petit fours, brownies, the king cake and more. The Tastee donuts are so yummy. Apple fritters, chocolate covered, sprinkles, glaze, etc. The restaurant has items like egg dishes, sandwiches, burgers and poboys. Don?t forget to grab a cup coffee,
I went in there with my little girl (and they were very nice and friendly)! Veronica was very welcoming (as well as her co-worker)! The king cake was delicious and fresh (and so were the doughnuts)!! Thank you, Tastee's:)
Tastee McKenzie's bakes classic Mardi Gras king cakes that are soft and absolutely delicious! They also create seasonal pastries decorated in purple, green, and gold, great for parades and family gatherings. While shopping, you can take a break with a tasty sandwich or salad, too. Spooktacular Halloween cookies, perfect for parties! Donuts are delicious and moist with fun decorations especially for kids. But my favorite nostalgic treat at Tastee Restaurant on Harrison Ave is the banana coffee cake. Great me
I dont usually go to this one because the place always looks so disgusting, tables are never wiped down, the OLD ladies that work there are so rude. I will give them this, the owner is a VERY nice man! This was an occassion that my daughter was hungry so i judt brought her there. We got our food and ate. We went to the bahroom to wash our hands and the soap was empty. So i brought it up to the counter and told her it was empty and if she could please refill it. Of course she looked at me like i was stupid,
Wonderful place. Food is great. Sweets just like McKenzie?s used to have. Fantastic King Cake & donuts! But best is all - the people!!!
Great bakery treats for Halloween and for football season. Friendly staff. A delicious tradition on Harrison Ave. that just keeps going despite pandemics, hurricanes or whatever.
McKenzies recipes still alive here! The buttermilk drops are too good.
The customer service was exceptional and the food was superb. The buttermilk drops reminded me of my childhood. Thanks for a great experience.
Always have issues getting served properly and timely at this location. I have been left to wait, recieved over one dozen donuts thrown in a bag, over looked in line...Pitiful! Guess my money isn't good enough!
Please tell your cashier to stop shaming people for ordering food. It's ridiculous how up in arms she gets whenever someone orders either an item from the kitchen or a dozen donuts. I've witnessed too much of this in the past towards other customers and this morning I caught it from her.
I always get a shrimp sandwich and it's delicious I never and the pass couple of years have I every got bad food from this location
Great place with "little sliders", and pastries! I was give a free pastry while waiting on my 6 sliders...hot off the grill!
Great food from a "blast from the past" restaurant. (McKenzies) Employee was very friendly but they need more staff to help her.
The lady before me got the last banana nut coffee cake, make sure to call in your order ahead of time. The jelly rolls are spot on!
The service was horrible , the cashier was so rude and rolling her eyes seemed to be her thing , hardly any pasteries , doesn't matter what time of day you go , you should have good service and stocked pasteries , other than the horrible service the buttermilk drops and turtles were good
Ok so I'm a sucker for Buttermilk Drops and my kids love some of the other doughnuts but that old lady working the register is such a crab it's comical.
OLD SCHOOL HERE. Please research the original buttermilk drop glazing. Tonight it was too soft. It is supposed to be flaky
Donuts was delicious and customer service was excellent.. Going back in the morning to get another dozen to take back to Georgia.????
The staff are very nice and they have decent food and decor. It was hard to see the prices for items though and the service wasn't too fast but was reasonable.
I wasn't impressed. The burgers were overpriced, took forever to cook and its greasy and not tastee.
The burgers are delicious and the restaurant is very comfortable and clean! The owners are the best and always make you feel welcome!
Nice family ran place,if u catch them when they first open the donuts are always fresh and warm. I
Best buttermilk drops I've ever had!!! The breakfast sandwiches are well priced and very tasty!!!
Stopped in to get the yummy buttermilk drops and stayed for chicken tenders and grilled cheese.
Classic donut shop - no frills. You don't get gourmet - just reasonably priced donuts.
Went in Mardi Gras morning rudest staff at least the two at the counter the owner had to come out and provide a lil NOLA hospitality to say it was Fat Tuesday ??
Stopped here to get some McKenzie's Buttermilk Drop Donuts. They were good, but not as good as I remember.
I got a croissant breakfast sandwich and it was delicious! They have a huge variety of doughnuts and muffins
It should be a crime for a something to taste this extraordinary!!!
The buttermilk drops are the best they make them fresh every day????
Best burger in town! Big burger, sweet (square) bun, cheese! Worth the wait.
Drop in to get some old time Mckenzie pastries and a scramble eggs and cheese on a croissant. Yummy ??
Affordable, fresh donuts & breakfast items made from scratch. No pics = Delish!??
Very nice place, the breakfast is really cheap and good ??
Great Donuts just like the old McKenzie's hand tasty as well
Great traditional bakery items and nice people. Highly recommended.
We all enjoyed our brunch meals.
Staff is horrible. Very rude. Hopefully they go out of business and another donut place opens in their spot.
The Petit fours... Lawd hammercy the Petit fours. Just delightful. No pic because I devoured them.
OMG I could set up a bed and live in here just for all the original McKenzie's stuff.
Huge place with many tables But will not let you eat inside! What a joke...
Awful this old lady how should be home complained that I asked for disposable silverware she should be home retired with her nasty attitude. NEVER WILL I GO BACK
Besides having coffee and donuts they have hot breakfasts, hamburgers, po boys and salads.
Closest thing to the old McKenzie's buttermilk drops. Also serves sliders similar to White Castle.
Adequate parking, great and friendly customer service, delicious and fresh pastries
Disappointed to find cinnamon rolls no longer there
Weak castle burgers. 2 or 3 tiny pieces of onion on them. Cant taste it at all
I go here for the McKenzie original buttermilk drops
Sweetest people you can meet every thing is made with love
If your looking to deal with an attitude problem go here! Sincerely- a non returning customer!!
Family friendly. Goods baked fresh daily.
Cash Only. Prices weren't listed anywhere on their menus.
Great donuts!!! Delicious food!!! Delightful people!!! Highly recommended!!!!!!!
the cashier was extremely rude. won?t be coming back here again!
Extremely sllllooooooowwwwwwwww Don?t stop here if you have to be at work on time.
Gone here three times. Slow service. Over 30 minutes wait for your food
Good service, nice environment, the server was good as well.
Customer service was terrible. No eye contact and minimul communication. Very confusing.
King cake and great customer service!??
Nobody threatened me, I guess it was ok.
Love the toast eggs and bacon sandwiches
