Sweet Eugene's

Sweet Eugene's

Reviews Summary

Sweet Eugene's is a beloved local coffee shop with a unique, cozy atmosphere that many praise for studying or relaxing. The coffee and food receive mixed reviews—some find them excellent (especially specialty drinks and pastries), while others criticize batch-brewed espresso and overpriced, mediocre food. Common complaints include inconsistent temperature (often too hot), slow service, and restrictive WiFi policies. Staff are generally friendly, though service quality varies. The ambiance and nostalgic vibe are standout features, but issues like cleanliness (especially restrooms) and crowding deter some. Overall, it’s a polarizing spot—cherished by regulars but frustrating for others due to operational flaws.

I used to love coming here for lunch but I can tell that the service is not the same. The food is good it's always been good. I did get a Iced Green Tea they didn't let the tea steep enough and it was very watered down. When they brought me my food they didn't bring me my drink I had to wait at the counter while somebody was on their personal phone to ask where my drink was. It was sitting at the counter the entire time. As I was walking out the door and I wanted to throw my plastic cup away there was no ro

Recently checked out this spot and regret not coming here sooner! As someone that studies best at night i love that they are open late. I went around 9:30pm and the places was packed with students studying. It was my first time so I didn?t know what to order and the male barista suggested his favorite drink and even stepped off the register to make it the way I wanted. It was definitely worth it my latte was a 10/10. To make it even better, the female barista made the cutest design on the cup, definitely ke

I love the atmosphere! We got a plain glazed donuts that were enjoyable! The coffee wasn?t the best I?ve ever had. I like a strong, creamy latte that is a little sweet, but I couldn?t taste the coffee is my 1/2 sweet caramel latte. The 12oz may have a better balance, but they make mine 16oz. I wish they had mugs for here too! I would go somewhere else if your main goal is a great latte! The aesthetic and food seem to be the biggest draw.

I come to Sweet Eugene's for the excellent seating selection and big windows. The location and parking lot make it a convenient stop. However, the coffee isn't great, the options for nondairy bakery items are very limited--or stale--and the workers regularly act/appear to be inconvenienced by normal customer questions and requests (like asking for a spoon/fork for the pastry you just bought to eat in-store does not seem like it should be an unreasonable request.).

This "House of Java" is a cozy local establishment with "Central Perk" vibes, freshly baked goods, and a few sandwiches and crepes made to order. This local college hangout is great for getting some work done with an eclectic atmosphere, some comfortable chairs and sofas, cheap?ish eats, and free wifi with purchase. Everything on the menu looked good, but I'll admit the Pumpkin Latte was terrible, so maybe that's bad luck, or people go for the price and the atmosphere and not the java? Beware the men's bath

I had an incredible time at this coffee shop, which offers so much more than just coffee. The moment I stepped inside, I was captivated by its unique, eclectic, and vintage indoor vibe. It's a place that truly stands out and transports you to another era. The array of desserts, food, and coffee choices available is extensive, making it a definite must-visit spot in the area. Whether you're a coffee aficionado, a foodie, or have a sweet tooth, there's something for everyone. The diverse menu is a testament

Had their jalape?o kolache . It?s ok . They don?t even warm it and give. Coffee was good . Had notes that appealed your palette. The ambience is worth going for . Each space takes you to a different era perhaps.

Love this cozy coffee shop! Great environment to read in or work at. Coffee is really good and service is wonderful.

The atmosphere here is unique and worth experiencing. The service is also prompt and friendly. However, the coffee just sucks. For their iced lattes, they just pour in cold espresso (or cold brew, not sure) instead of pulling fresh shots. Not worth it, in my opinion, unless you want a cafe to just get some coffee and work in peace.

I?ve been frequenting this quaint, welcoming local coffee shop for 30 years. I?m so thankful that it is not only in business, but thriving! The atmosphere is eclectic. There are many different seating options from tables to winged-back chairs and couches, some in little nook areas and others in open areas. There are games and books for public (and free) use. The bathroom is immaculate. The coffee is always consistently delicious, no matter what option you choose. There are homemade cakes and desserts, donut

This is an oasis of authenticity amongst the myriad of chain restaurants and coffee shops. Awesome atmosphere and vibe. The decor looks like they robbed my Italian auntie?s 1970?s living room in New Jersey.

When I asked one of the workers on the side of the bar for a fork, she had the gall to tell me "I can't quite hear you right nowww" and when I repeated myself louder she takes off her Air Pod, forcing me to repeat myself yet again, only for her to say "you can ask the lady at the bar, I'm making a crepe right now." Profoundly disrespectful. The only reason I didn't ask the person at the bar in the first place was because I did not want to disrespect the bar lady or the long line of customers she was attend

I always enjoy the vibe and aesthetic here- the coffee is great too (reccomend the snickers latte if you like sweet/mocha). Definitely a cstat staple. My one complaint is that it is very hard to 1. Find an outlet to use 2. Find a parking spot

I wish I could rate this place higher. The pastry was tasty and served hot, staff were friendly and hospitable, and there's some nice cozy seating. I am mostly writing this about two issues to raise attention for prospective shoppers: #1. The Wifi is limited to two hours. You get a code to put in upon a purchase, and then you need to buy something else to get more time. I came in hoping to do some work on my computer while I had a drink, and I felt encouraged to leave. There is a note on the tables saying

We visited for the first time & it was nice! We used the drive thru, which was convenient for us! We enjoyed an apple fritter (& got a couple extra for later lol) & tried the Snickers Latte & Cafe Caramel (decaf). Everything was DELICIOUS ?? The customer service was pleasant as well ????????

The staff was very friendly. The timing of the food was a bit off, our friend who was directly behind us in line received her food much later than we did and we each ordered a crepe. There were people after us that got food before she did. I did enjoy my apple fritter and the crepe was okay. The atmosphere was nice, a good place to just relax and hang out.

Atmosphere is fire -Good Job on owners Service is trash -they shouldn't expect tips Food tastes alright, but, not ANYWHERE near worth the price they ask This worth $10+ to you? You're better off going to Chic-Fil-A, Los Cucos, HEB, or any surrounding place to get food for more bang for your buck My reason for One-Starring is because they gave me my food and told me that they were out of sprouts - I told them that's okay, simply bring me some substitute that's equal to the price of these expensive sprouts,

Really good strong coffee. Excellent selection of things to eat. Loved their cookies and donuts. Service was very helpful and friendly. Parking was hard to find on a Saturday morning. It's a busy place.

The espresso is really low quality, the milk tastes burnt, and the syrups have an extremely artificial taste. I've tried 4 different drinks here, each time a let down. Also, you must make a purchase to use WiFi (only 2-hour tickets). Then they make you make another purchase for more WiFi. The tables are wobbly and small and the place tends to be filled to the brim with people. I didn't really mind that, but if you need to focus or hop on a call, keep in mind that it does get loud. So many higher quality

Pros: lots of parking, lots of seating, comfortable seating, extensive menu of both sweet and savory foods, lots of coffee drinks, everything is tasty, great servers, excellent hours, outdoor seating, fun relaxed ambiance that's great for studying or hanging out Cons: fellow patrons can get a little loud. Their Italian cream cake was so rich and delicious! Same for the Black Forrest Cake! They have the whole spectrum of drinks, from sweet to bitter coffee and everything in between. Staff are fun and helpfu

Always yummy food and drinks! Service is always friendly and quick. Love the style of the inside too. It's a nice place to just relax and chill when needing to or for studying. Highly recommend! I wish they had another one deeper in college station!

There is definitely no other place like Sweets in CSTAT. Whether you need some good coffee and a sweet treat or just somewhere to go chill with a great environment, Sweet Eugene's in the place to be.

I love Sweet Eugene's. Compared to other coffee shops I get best bang for my buck here. Coffee is high quality and taste great. Staff is awesome too. I have a couple little suggestions though. The black coffee cup lids very easily pop off. I know from experience when I get coffee to to go. If you grab the cup the wrong way or grab it from the top the lids pos right off and in my case has spilled all over my car many times.. I recommend finding a better fitting lid or higher quality cup. I occasionally ge

Very comfortable and relaxing atmosphere. You can spend a whole day here without thinking twice. It can be your go-to place to work or just hang out with friends. The staff is very polite and helpful. We had a cortado, iced matcha latte and a blueberry scone. 10/10 would go back again.

There was a period of time I came everyday for something like a few months to good ol' Sweet Eugenes. Yes, the seating can be crammed, yes, it is 2-3 baristas trying to serve dozens of people at a time, but the wait is hardly long even during the peak. The internet isn't the greatest, but also remember the amount of people trying to use it. Personally, I love this place, and the black iced coffee is a killer deal. I love it here <3

Really cool spot to read or do some work while drinking coffee. The coffee is okay but I think they grind the beans too fine because there is a burnt after taste at the end. The desserts look really good.

Very comfortable and relaxing atmosphere. It reminds me of lounging at a friend's house. The customer service is fantastic and the music is calming. I will definitely come back.

The coffee tastes so incredibly cheap considering how expensive it is. They also always get my order wrong, specially the milk which could be dangerous to people with allergies. Workers are pretentious.

EDIT: It was January 6th i think (can't reply on here) Usually I really like this place for studying, but last time, I was there at about 8:30-9:45PM (Posted hours do say 6AM-12AM). I sat near the counter and the employees blasted "You Should Probably Leave" by Chris Stapleton and "Closing Time" by Semisonic over and over and over to the point that I felt uncomfortable. It would be funny, to someone not trying to study, but uncomfortable nonetheless. I was confused because it wasn't really close to 'closin

The best place to study! Great environment!

Funky, fresh, cool vibes. This is exactly what a coffee house should be. Not pretentious or snobby, with random Italian words on the menu. The "eye-opener", is exactly what it sounds like, an electrified jolt of java caffeine. The comfy vintage "living rooms" are inviting and feel like you can just hang out here all day. I just wish I lived in BCS just so I could make this place my daily habit.

Not much of the food (crepes) is very good as far as I?ve heard, but the apple fritters are huge and only $3.50! The seating is often full (even less of those seats are by outlets) but it?s inviting and casual that I come to study or read about 3 times a week.

Not sure what has happened to Sweet Eugene?s in the last few years but it has gone downhill in food quality and service. I ordered an iced latte with almond milk and hazelnut syrup and the barista said ?that?s weird? and continued to make comments about my order while making my coffee. The latte itself was okay. I also ordered a savory crepe that somehow managed to have extremely overcooked and rubbery eggs inside with uncooked dough on the outside. It was visually appealing but honestly one of the worst th

loud and overcrowded. I ordered a crepe and they told me itd be a 15 minute wait. I waited for about 20 minutes and went to ask them about it and they told me that someone was making it right now. about 30 minutes later and I went to ask again and turns out they entirely forgot about it :( When I went to go ask them they offered to make it immediately, but I had somewhere to go because its been about an hour now. They apologized and I asked for a refund which took them a while to give. And then they gave

Please read the entirety of this comment. Here is my SCORE: 1) Atmosphere: 3/5 2) Service: 2/5 3) Flavor: 1/5 4) Cost: 1/5 Total Score: 1.7 (1.75/5). This is my second time here. It is great, however, I've noticed they do not poor espresso shots in their ice coffee... they literally had a jar with ice coffee and pour it into my cup. I asked if there was any espresso and the barista just pour more of the "concentrate" jar. And although they will tell you that they make batches of espresso for like 12 hour

Went there 2 days in a row on our weekend trip to College Station. I had the hot white mocha one day and the heath bar java shake the second day. They were both great! We also tried the glazed twist donut, apple fritter, and kolaches. Highly recommend all! Will definitely revisit when we go back to College Station in the future.

I can only use wifi for 2 hours? If I want to keep using wifi I have to keep purchasing their food and drinks? What kind of rule is that? What kind cafe place has wifi time limits? This is ridiculous and insane. I don?t know how is this even allowed in 2025. Never come back again.

We had the Mayan Latte, the Red Velvet Latte, the Snickers Latte, the hot chocolate with whip, a chocolate donut, and the Nutella cheesecake. All were so good, and the ambiance was so welcoming. Great hangout spot.

Jackson is the best!!! Always smiling and making everyone?s day better!! Love coming here when he is working!!!

Love the atmosphere and service - great place to relax and enjoy some good coffee alone or with company. Gotta say tho, I feel like I way overpaid for the food. While the sandwiches we ordered were tasty, there were two slices of deli meat, two. I left feeling like I just paid 35 bucks for a couple coffees and snacks, like I?ll be ready for lunch soon. I?ll probably skip the food next time.

This place has many variety of tea, coffee, smoothie, sweets and more. There is very spacious reading and working space. I liked the banana ?? smoothie and my friend lived the mango smoothie.

Was surprised after such great reviews. My barista was not knowledgeable about her menu. I asked what she had similar to a caramel macchiato, and I wanted iced. Needless to say I ended up just ordering a hot butterscotch coffee. Totally bitter. My husband said his milkyway coffee was ok. Not my favorite place!

Quiche was good, but the coffee was delicious ?? N I enjoyed the ambiance, almost like an old bookstore with tables.

I got a matcha latte and they barely mixed in the matcha powder. It was so chunky. Was not good at all. Not worth the price either. I recommend Harvest in Century Square.

The drinks are nice but the pastries are subpar. Overall nice place to study if it?s not too busy

Sweet Eugene?s has become the College Station office for Nixon and myself. As a result, we have had a chance to sample a good portion of the menu and have great things to report on everything we?ve tried. Our first venture into the culinary side of one of our favorite coffee houses was with their Crepes, made fresh, in house right before your very eyes at their open concept Crepe Station. I?ve tried Crepe Fear and Alexander the Crepe. Crepe Fear comes stuffed with mesquite smoked turkey, mozzarella and che

I just got coffee. The atmosphere of this place is really cool. There's a dining/seating area where you can sit at a traditional table, but there are also small rooms where you can lounge on a couch or in a bigger chair. The furniture is a little dated, so it's not as nice as what you may have at home. There's a carousel horse lamp, a knight and other interesting decorations in the rooms as well.

Here from Germany dropping our daughter off for college. I wish we had a place like this especially with the amazing friendly staff. Great coffee and Apple Fritters at a fair price. Highly RECOMMEND. Very laid back atmosphere. Skip SB and come straight here! You won't regret it.

I?m so grateful to have this coffee shop in our small town of College Station. The staff here are exceptional?always friendly, understanding, and willing to go above and beyond for their guests. Every visit is a pleasure, thanks to their genuine care and attentiveness. They consistently maintain a clean and peaceful environment, making it a perfect spot to relax and enjoy a great cup of coffee. This coffee shop truly enriches our community, and I couldn?t be more appreciative of the dedication they show eve

comfortable and cozy cafe there are a lot of students on weekends coffee is not bad chocolate cake is really good

Love the place! Moving after the semester ends and I?d like to know what brand matcha they use so I can recreate it at home when I move to Tennessee

Love the Java shakes (much better than any Starbucks frozen drink), and the crepes have been consistently tasty. Great atmosphere but can be very crowded on weekends and mornings. Friendly staff. I have yet to try it personally but my SO has said their cheesecake is excellent.

This made my experience in C stat. Great hours. Great service. Great ambiance for studying. Did all my studying here

The food was old and stale. Bought a Cranberry Scone and tasted like cardboard. The staff is disinterested and have no welcoming etiquette and hospitality. This place is a complete disappointment in cafe.

The service is friendly enough and the atmosphere is nice, however the java shake I ordered was completely watered down and had no whipped cream nor chocolate sauce whatsoever.

Most of the staff was friendly. The drinks were not good. They batch make their espresso for iced drinks, so when I ordered a latte it taste liked iced coffee and that's not what I wanted. I would not recommend any of the lattes as I got two and both were not good. Additionally, while the atmosphere looked warm and cozy, it was very dirty with empty plates and dirty napkins on all of the tables and coffee tables. We had to ask someone just to get them to clean it up.

Sweet Eugene's was my go-to place to study for almost all of college!! Unfortunately, their 2 hour wifi rule has really driven a lot of business out. I personally don't go anymore because I don't want to spend $20-$30 every time I need a study sesh, especially if the coffee nor pastries are very good ( and as a student I can't afford that haha). It was definitely the ambience & the time I could spend there that made it worth while! If you guys plan on keeping the 2 hour rule, it might help to use more or

The only legit old school coffee house in the BCS area. Perhaps the last in Texas? All I knows is I've been drinking their coffee since I had a learners permit (20+ years) and they've never let me down.

Stopped in for some coffee and food. Both were really good. Great place to work and study as well.

I typically love cozy cafe's to churn homework out in but I find myself always slightly disappointed with the main attraction of a coffee shop, the coffee here. They batch their espresso here for the iced lattes which is just a bit ridiculous for how much they charge. I've tried multiple of their speciality coffees and they all are pretty lackluster compared to what I'd typically expect from a coffee shop. I do enjoy their non-coffee items. The paninis here are always delicious and the baked goods are decen

This is a great place for chillin', hanging out with peeps, and having excellent coffee and treats. Some of our favorite couches are in this place. I've been a couple times with my girlfriend...wait. she really isn't my girlfriend, but we were cuddling a bunch for a while there. This place was perfect for snuggling with someone you hope to maybe one day have s more intimate relationship with, but it probably won't ever happen. Sad face.

This is my favorite coffee place in College Station! It's such a unique spot, the decor gives it a different but soothing atmosphere that is absent from other coffee shops in the area. It's a popular place, so if you want to find a spot to study you need to get in early. Their coffee and treats are delicious to snack on while you're studying or hanging out with friends. My coffee of choice would be the Almond Joy, a lovely combination of coconut and chocolate with espresso. The Turkey Avocado Panini is also

I ordered the London Fog tea... it's the best I've ever tasted! I especially liked the cinnamon on top...

After purchase, WiFi is limited to 2 hours and 20 minutes. My old roommate worked here, he quit because it was never clean enough behind the counter. Milk is re-heated if not used quickly enough. Shop owner prioritizes quick coffee over good coffee due to volume of people in the store.

Good coffee shop, they only make Latte. I asked for Cappuccino, it was funny they made me a Latte. They tried. Cappuccino is 1/3 espresso, 1/3 steamed milk, and 1/3 wet foamed milk. Latte has a lot of milk, whereas cappuccino is a strong coffee. We liked the artwork, good place to hang out.

Cute and inviting atmosphere. It?s a big space, so it doesn?t have the confined feel as a lot of coffee shops do. They have plenty of food and beverages to choose from. Good date or study spot.

Not much to say. Food and drinks are very good. The atmosphere is cozy and comfortable. ABSOLUTELY RECOMMEND GOING HERE. The only downside is the men?s restroom. Reeks of stale urine like it?s never been cleaned and the toilet seat needs replacing.

Love the atmosphere! Music is great. A place you can get work done or meet a friend. The crowd is respectful of either type of guest, which you don?t see a lot these days. 1 thing though: the young girls working here are super rude so I?d suggest just knowing your coffee order beforehand or else you?ll get an eye roll or two for asking a question lol

I used to love spending my off days in here studying or even just reading, but sadly I can no longer return because it is miserably hot in there I mean i would leave dripping in sweat and I can tell you right now it wasn?t from a spicy novel. The food & drinks are great and the staff is even better but I cant support a business allowing their people to work in this environment. I?m gonna be contacting OHSA considering this has been going on as long as it has. This saddens me to write as the love for this pl

Local here. This place is worth a visit. But my perspective is heavily shaded by nostalgia, so be warned. Been a customer of sweets for 20+ years. To my knowledge, it?s a locally owned business. Great atmosphere and ample seating are its biggest selling points. Great place for a study group to meet. They sell coffee, lattes, donuts, desserts, crepes and sandwiches. Every-time I stop in, I play a little mental Easter egg hunting game to see what has changed, if anything; be it some of the fantastic artwork

Love the atmosphere, and really friendly service! However, there was a couple complaints. Although the bakery treats are incredible, the coffee was extremely lacking. If you?re looking for just an atmospheric place, or a place for a few sweet treats, this is perfect. But if you want a good cup of coffee, that?s made with quality and care, this isn?t the place. Not only did I feel that the coffee was of a lower, possibly robusta grade, but it wasn?t prepared correctly. And the techniques for preparation were

It is always warm inside. It is never cold enough to get comfortable. If I had to guess, it is always 75? or warmer. Perhaps it is the many windows bringing in warmth from the sun. Either way, I've been sitting in the middle of the store for twenty minutes and my arms are sweaty as I type this. Coffee is good, not incredible. One bone to pick is their espresso drinks. If you want an iced mocha latte, for example, the espresso is some sort of pre-brewed mixture. I wish they pulled the shots freshly for each

Coffee sucks. The atmosphere is great. Reminds me of Austin before it got gentrified.

A local staple. Great coffee and a great spot to meet friends for a late cup of coffee. Shop local & shop small!

1 hr and 15 minute wait for a sandwich. While ordering coffee two hours earlier, I heard the cashier complain, ?no one wants to make sandwiches.? I watched the shift changed, ordered a sandwich because I was dropped off and couldn?t go elsewhere, and learned the hard way that the cashier wasn?t kidding. I had to ask about my order twice. The new cashier told me (after 45 minutes) that a lot of sandwiches had been ordered, ?about 10.? That?s not a 45-minute wait and surely not 1 hr and 15 minutes. The young

not enough food options. only pastries really but the coffee is very good and that?s their main thing. great atmosphere for studying or just relaxing especially if you have noise canceling headphones.

Ordered the iced snicker?s latte; it was so delicious! Breakfast sandwich and donut were good. Nothing amazing but about like donut shop style. Staff was friendly, quick, and helpful. Environment was relaxing and fairly quiet for being busy. Recommend trying them if you?re in the area.

We came here to grab a quick bite before heading to the airport. It took more than 10 minutes to get a hot latte, 30 minutes for a sandwich, and an HOUR for crepes. Was it worth the wait? No, no it wasn?t.

No complaints, really cute local coffee stop. Aggie ran and family oriented - wifi offered with your order if you?re there to study. no complaints

By far my favorite coffeeshop in CSAT. Vibes are immaculate

I love that I can still count on sweet Eugene's. When I was a student I worked there. I remember the live "after the show " parties broadcast every Thursday night after Friends. Never saw a caf? get so wild.

This is a perfect coffee shop. Quintessential, even. The coffee is great (try the Eugene or whatever it's called), the pastries don't disappoint, and there's a good amount of seating. Just kidding on that last point. There's never a seat. Ever. During the semester, it's packed from 8am to closing. If you're passing through town on the off-school season, this is a very great spot to relax.

Great mango smoothie and tuxedo cake and great ambiance

This place is the best coffee house in college station and arguably in Texas. It?s locally owned and the owners are genuinely the sweetest people. Everyone I?m around I stop by here. It was a great place to meet family, play games, and for my husband and I to work. Also the hot coco is the best ever !

The coffe is not great. But great place to study

This place has character and panache. The drinks cost about the same Starbucks to a little less, but you get something made locally. I really like the fact they support local artist, and it adds to the vibe of the restaurant. The drinks are well made. I would like the option for a larger to go container. I think that is my only real suggestion. This has been a great staple since I was a kid, and it?s nice to know it still brings the same quality to the table as it did twenty years ago.

Genuine college town coffee shop. Completely original, not a cookie cutter type of place! Friendly staff have easy smiles, without any impatience. Will be back!

The ideal coffee shop set up. Atmosphere is perfect. Decor unique and interesting. Nice visit. Would go back but was passing through. Will definitely stop in next trip.
