Sweet Al's Donut Shoppe

Sweet Al's Donut Shoppe

Reviews Summary

The consensus is overwhelmingly positive, with most reviews praising the delicious donuts, pastries, and breakfast items like the "breakfast lasagna." Many highlight the friendly staff, cozy atmosphere, and nostalgic train decorations. High ratings (5 stars) dominate, citing freshness, flavor, and excellent service. However, some negative reviews mention inconsistent quality, cold or undercooked items, and occasional cleanliness or operational issues (like early closures). A few long-time customers note a decline in quality over the years, but most still consider it a top-tier donut shop, especially for its glazed donuts and small-town charm.

Customer Reviews

A Cameron icon, I was taken here for doughnuts because everyone who grew up here raved about Sweet Al's. Unfortunately, my experience was similar to so many others here in the reviews. The filling in the doughnuts was alarmingly sparse, to the point where it was visually detectable, but couldn't be tasted. The apple fritter was light on apples and almost devoid of spice. It tasted very empty and of sugar. However! The blueberry cake donut was moist and flavorful, very delicious. I regret getting any spec

Fun little place! We sat inside and enjoyed our donuts, and a lot of people were in and out taking large orders to go. The ladies were so nice chatting to me and my kids. My kids loved the trains!

This place used to be the best place to get donuts in the world. I can remember being a little kid and my grandpa taking me up there to get donuts and watch the trains. But since Al has sold it the place has really went downhill. I stopped in this morning September 30, 2020 got 2 glazed donuts and a filled long John. The glaze donuts were cold not room temperature cold but been in the Refrigerator cold and they are not near as big as he used to be. Pretty sure they were made the night before. The long John

Loved it when I was a kid. Used to be the best donuts in the state.... update for 2021. Horrible experience. I had heard they recently changed ownership and the food was not good now but I never expected to fund it was absolutely not the sweet Al's I remember. I went in on Saturday to get a couple glazed and a bag of donut holes. The donuts were not the same as before. They are more dense and taste like a couple days old. So disappointed.

We go out of our way when we travel to get these donuts!!! Fluffy and delicious.

Stop it.. This place is so good it should be illegal. Love the gals that work here, everyone is always in a great mood. Try their biscuits and gravy. You won't be sorry. I might be addicted.

My husband and I went in there this morning. I try to avoid leaving bad reviews anywhere, but this place was horrible. The food wasn?t good, the service was horrible and made us both uncomfortable, and there were little flies in the donut display. We both felt like the lady didn?t want us in there at all, and even though we tried to be friendly, she just had a horrible attitude.

I stopped in to check out the place, I have only had their donuts once l, and it was great when they use to supply donuts for shell, it was a cinnamon twist, I was so happy to pass thru Cameron while they where open to grab a dozen for the family and try their coffee but the lady who was at the counter had a stinky attitude and just proceeded to stare at the wall not saying anything almost like she was annoyed I was there so I just walked out. Writing this in the parking lot and gonna head on over to Dunkin

Got a variety that included bavarian filled. Ha if you consider less than a teaspoon of filling filled. Not worth the money. The donuts in general just weren?t as good as they were years ago.

The staff here is top notch. They were very nice and the donuts are very delicious. A gentleman went out of the way also this weekend to help out with a short notice breakfast order for myself and some friends camping out at Wallace state park. He went above and beyond to take care of us and made a customer for life. I?ll be sure to stop by every time we go camping that way!

The items in the menu were not available. We got the breakfast lasagna and it was cold at the bottom. Nothing homemade. Soggy hash browns. Also got a glazed doughnut. Ice cold and the flavor left a lard after taste. The doughnut tasted like it came from the Walmart bakery. We threw the food away. Would never eat here again.

Great place to stop on the road and get some apple fritters. The donuts were good, but the apple fritter was to die for. Everything was fresh and delicious. The shop has lots of train decor, even a miniature train that goes around the store. The kids love to see the train go around. The people were friendly and nice. They have clean bathrooms for a short stop. Don't miss it if you are in the area!

I wouldn't even give them 1 star. Was there at 4:40am on a Saturday. Donuts looked and tasted like the day before. Haven't had a warm FRESH donut since before he sold the place, donuts were nasty cold like they made the day before. U go to a donut shop to get freah warm donut that will melt your mouth. These definately DO NOT, Great counters service. Bad donuts...

We were excited to try this place as we have just moved to town and heard some good things. Get there about 10:50am, poor customer service, sold all the donuts they had left to the man who walked in 1 step ahead of us. Lights were already off as we were walking in. According to the reviews we've read now, this seems to be a norm for these people. If you dont stay open to the time you advertise then maybe you shouldnt be open at all. We will now be making the trip to st joseph to fulfill our donut craving.

Bought a dozen Bavarian cream l Iong johns mostly for $24. The 1st long John had maybe a teaspoon of filling in the end, my husband's had chocolate filling in half (we didn't order any chocolate filled) 1 Bismark had less than a bite of filling in it. I could have spent much less at the gas station and recieved what I paid for instead of shopping a local small business, knowing it would cost much more but expected to at least have filling in more than the end of the donuts.

If you like donuts made the day before that aren't consistent, this is the place to go. Place looks abandoned and it's obvious there is not much love and care at this establishment. Many better options in the area.

Great donuts. They even have filled long john's. Maple ones even! My only issue is they close at noon. Not surprising, they probably work all night making a delicious bunch of donuts and deserve a bit of rest! I recommend you get there early for the best selection??

Very friendly good service and great donuts. Well over time the new owners took over I had stopped going here. The food is awful. They make the donuts the afternoon before and the grease they use stays on the donuts. They are disgusting. I won't go back anymore.

Besides having great fresh donuts Sweet Al's has other breakfast foods. Once inside you're encompassed by a country decor complete with train sets. Best of all sweet locally owned and very friendly.

Very good donuts, biscuits and gravy is decent. Can't go wrong getting breakfast here. Small store with model trains inside, has an old country store feel to it. They do take credit cards.

Used to be a great donut shop. Haven't been there in a couple of years. Did not look clean. Donuts were terrible. Doughy in the middle. Bland in flavor . Will not go back.

Such kind staff! Very welcoming. Delicious food (donuts, and some amazing local recipes! Try the breakfast lasagna). Warm atmosphere with awesome train decorations!

Great donuts, passing through on the drive across country. Delicious kaloches as well! Definitely worth the stop! Not many other breakfast options leaving KC

We picked up donuts for a meeting, but weirdly we didn't get to eat them:( so we can't comment on the taste. They seemed to be a hit though and none were left. Al's has a great reputation in the community and the people in the store ordering swear by them. The shop is going with the train station motif, and is kind of all stuffed in a small space. We might swing through on our trip back and.give them a taste and we'll let you.know our thoughts. Jeff

Awesome donuts, pastries, muffins, brownies and cookies and crossiants. They have a breakfast lasagna with or without gravy that is "da bomb", also biscuits and gravy and kolaches ( need to pre-order] before 5 a.m.) Hot tea or coffee. There is also cappuccinos, iced coffee or frappes. Milks, water, juices and sodas. Super friendly service. They also take cash, check, credit or debit. They sell out super fast, so to make sure you have yours " call in before 5 a.m. (preorder). The place that leaves you longi

Best hot meal, freshest delicious donuts, scrumptious muffins, and pastry. I always feel like a rock star when I have the pleasure of eating there.

There was a Sweet Al?s in Waikiki back in the days. Are you related? The big glazed donut was out of this world. Never had anything close to it!

A favorite of mine and has been for years. Even after new owners took over years ago still maintain best quality and tasting doughnuts ever!

Really not impressed. Tiny selection on a Saturday, and the donuts were fine. They are Cash or Check only. Their store is a mess, looks like a failed antique shop.

Fantastic little "Mom and Pop" that leaves other donut shops in it's shadow. Great pastries, friendly service and a new coffee bar makes it a must stop.

Nostalgic for the Cameron area. I've been visiting since I was a child, worked here for awhile and still find the want to come in and grab a doughnut as an adult.

Nice small town feel and great tasting soft doughnuts. Jalape?o and cheese Kolache was very good also. And it was very inexpensive!

Donuts we're good and you could tell they were made fresh, was a little disappointed in their selection. But it was a nice visit.

We will not be going back to this business. Prices have raised yet quality did not. Also an owner that posts a smart ass sign about his political stance as you walk in the door does not get my business, if I agree or not. Just not the place, just sell the doughnuts.

Best glazed donuts I've ever eaten. I'd be willing to make the drive just for them!

I love this place, my 4 year old loves the train that goes around the top of the walls.

Family owned small town friendly business. Love it plus donuts are great too!

OMG they definitely live up to their name! We stop by as much as we can... Don't know what they put in everything they sell but it's so additive!

The donuts there are amazing! They are the best donuts you will ever try.

Great donuts. Grew up in the area and I now live GA, but always stop in when ever I come back to town.

Great little store to sit down and visit. Good stop for some biscuits & gravy and donuts at a very inexpensive price.

They say they open at 5am. But I'm standing here after 5am on sat morning

Great little shop! Excellent donuts and really friendly customer service!

This place can go toe to toe with all those big box bakeries.... best donuts ever and very affordable.

Friendly owners. The BEST donuts you will ever taste!

This place has the BEST Breakfast Lasagna and their Apple Fritters are out of this world delicious!

Im very happy with there servis. Very nice people and very kind. A good business.

Some of the best doughnuts I've ever had.

It says they close at 12 and we got up early so we could drive all the way there before they closed and when we got there, they were already closed. Very disappointed!!!??

O.M.G. the cinnamon rolls and fritters are to die for.. must have.. yummy ??

Defiantly my favorite donuts!! Puts Dunkin Donuts to Shame.
