Tucked away on a quiet corner in the northern part of Richmond, this small donut shop may not look like much from the outside, but it?s an absolute gem for anyone who loves creative, delicious donuts. One of the things I miss most are donuts when I went vegan. I literally search out vegan donut shops whenever I travel. This place is just off the i-95 in Richmond, VA, so a perfect stop on my drive from FL to VA to visit family. Altho this isn't a vegan place, most of the donuts here are vegan-friendly & they taste heavenly! Oh & pricing is great! $20 for a dozen. I know some places that charge extra for the word "Vegan". $4-5 per vegan donut is not uncommon.

The donuts are delicious, fresh, and full of flavor! The fresh strawberry donut is particularly outstanding. The only discrepancy was with the sweet coconut donut, which had a chocolate base instead of the vanilla or white icing shown in the advertisement.

I usually get the red velvet donut, but this time i decided to get other things. The caramel pretzel one wasn't bad! The caramel is good and complements the pretzel, i went near closing and unfortunately the pretzel was stale i think next time i'll probably try it again in the morning. Worker was nice! Blueberry donut was good, it reminds me of a blueberry muffin! Pretty sugary!

Doughnuts were delicious, but pricey! Hard to fit a dozen doughnuts in a box! There was a line, so you might have to wait a little while, but definitely worth it! Has their own small parking lot! Will definitely go back!

Donuts are one of my favorite foods and this place is the only place I will get donuts. Sometimes I come here in the morning before school and it just makes my day the food is so good. The atmosphere is so nice and the people are so kind. Go get a doughnut here you will not regret it.

Service was so sweet and charming, Donuts and the different options are incredible! From experience, they won't last more than 2 days on the counter but you may have better luck if you refrigerate. We are big big fans of the glazed options for very berry, blue berry and old fashioned. Would have bought a whole tray if they did cherry chip!

We ordered about an hour before close on a Sunday evening. I called before placing my order to make sure all the donuts in our dozen were in stock. Nyla answered the phone on all three of my calls. Cute little donut shop. We came on a Sunday morning and they had a wide selection. I tried both the salted caramel pretzel donut and the butter finger donut and both were delicious. My partner had a cinnamon roll which he gave a thumbs up to. There is not much room inside the shop, so I recommend grabbing these and taking them home.

Don't go here if you have no self-control when it comes to sweets. They're amazing & I actually recommend them over Krispy Kreme for selection. You will NOT be disappointed. If you can think of it, they make it or have made it & if they're not in your neighborhood, they're worth the trip. Just today, I saw them bringing in a case of strawberries (real strawberries!!). I assume they use them for strawberry donuts & strawberry glaze. You can't get better than fresh strawberries!

My supervisor bought our staff a dozen of these donuts. All assorted!! They are absolutely delicious! Really delicious is an understatement. Great donuts. Need a better system for customer service, every time I come in it?s very slow service whether it?s the afternoon or morning. I especially don?t recommend coming in the morning. I can understand a wait, but there?s no teamwork to keep the line moving at all. A short line of 4 people should not take 15+ minutes and have people walking out leaving.

The service is always great! The donuts are fresh and flavors are pretty creative. The lattes are great and I love that they have nondairy options. The line always moves pretty quickly.

People are right - this place has gone downhill. Used to be my favorite donut shop. Haven?t had it in a while. Now why would you give me this donut?? You can see there?s icing and stuff missing from half the donut. I also had a sugar and cinnamon donut and it was wet!! Pretty clear indicator when it?s like that it?s not a fresh donut.

Plenty of vegan options. *NOTE* the donut prices are set up by shelf and labeled by ?Classic? ?Special? and ?House? so you can match the price on the board with the donut label. I went tug Chocolate glaze chocolate chip and salted caramel glaze. They?re a cross between yeast and cake donuts so they?re a denser than yeast and lighter than cake. Lots of non-vegan options also. Well priced (two of my donuts pictured were $3.45).

They make homemade donuts which are awesome. The coffee here us 2nd to none. I love this place. It can get crowed in the morning but who cares. Slow service but really tasty doughnuts, they taste different than other doughnuts I've had in Richmond. The strawberry tastes like actual strawberries rather than artificial flavour, super nice. Never had a strawb doughnut like it. Edit: Service has been much faster than the first time I went, and the strawbs are still just as awesome. The cold fashioned cake doughnuts are super good, too!

Our son has an egg allergy so he typically cannot have donuts. Here he was able to have his pick of a bunch of different vegan donuts! We are not local but we will be back!

Awesome vegan donut options; it's clearly labeled which ones are vegan. I like the French toast donut and somoa donut the best! Also vegan shakes are available.

This is one of my favorite comfort food locations. They have gourmet donuts and pastries that are to die for! Everything is freshly prepared on site throughout the day. It's more of a takeout at this location.

Sugar Shack catered our wedding and the donuts were a hit! Always tasty and the guest loved the grab-and-go option so they could keep dancing. We also provided donut bags so they can take some home with them at the end of the night.

Fun, little doughnut and burger place. We ended getting a couple of doughnuts for breakfast, but would definitely come back to try more. The doughnuts were great, and the prices were really good too. If I had to improve one thing, I would say I wish there was somewhere inside or outside to sit, so that you don't have to eat in the car or find somewhere else to go.

I've got some mixed feelings about this place. The service was fine; I took it to go and had no issues. The burger was good, but at this low/mid-range price point you can find better elsewhere. The donuts are great, and there is a great variety with some unusual items to try. Also, they have some heckish good dipping sauce that came with the fries (maybe a honey-mustard thing?) Just amazing customer service and a very friendly clientele. I got the Vegan Nashville Chicken Sandwich with vegan bacon and my bf got the Maple Bacon Beef Sandwich with a donut as a bun. Both of us loved our orders! For desert we got 3 donuts that knocked our socks off. There's no indoor seating, but there's a middle school across the street with some benches to use if its after hours.

Yummy donuts! Unusual flavors but they all are delicious. The peanuts in the Babe Ruth donut were a little too much for a light fluffy donut, but the coconut on the Samoa donut was just right. No indoor seating, but they do have a few chairs outside in the parking lot area. Definitely worth a stop.

Coming into this shop is always unwelcoming, confusing, and difficult to order because the line is confusing and when we went there today there was a line for donuts and 4 ppl working and they continued to take orders for only donuts until a caucasian man walked in and they took his order who was after us. This place got good coffee but we will never come back for this horrible customer service.

Service here was very friendly. They offered a huge selection of donuts and several cute options for Halloween. I found the donuts to be a bit dry and chewy. Some of them seemed a little stale. However my son loved the decorations.

Today's is my wife's birthday, so I jetted down here early in the morning to grab a dozen of donuts. This is no normal doughnut place, these doughnuts are frigging Amazeballs! We stopped in to get some doughnuts and coffee, and we were very impressed. They had a ton of unique flavors and the ones we got (red velvet and a jelly-filled) were both very good. We also each bought lattes and those were also very good. We will likely come back here again soon.

Richmond's Best Donuts! Great variety and always fresh. I often stop by Sugar Shack to buy treats for healthcare workers in the area. They are always a great hit with the staff.

Some of the best donuts I?ve had in a while! Very fresh and unique flavors. We tried the French toast yeast donut and a lemon Oreo long john. Both were amazing!! Also- very affordable! Some craft donut shops charge upwards of $5 per donut but not here. Can?t wait to make this a weekend tradition.

We were in Richmond downtown and were looking for a quick place to have coffee and donut. We searched near us and decided to have coffee and donut from Sugar Shack. From the menu we ordered Spice Pie Latte and Donut. The order was quick and soon we got our coffee as well as donut. The spice pie latte was an amazing coffee with freshly roasted coffee and amazing fall taste. The donut was also good. A good coffee shop definite to have an amazing coffee and donut.

Visiting from another state. I was so amped when I saw there was a vegan friendly desert shop in Richmond. My first time trying a vegan donut as well. I got two of them and omg soooo good. Definitely getting some more before I leave. And the cashier was nice and stylish (in her unique way), love it. And the shop is so cute as well.

Donuts were yummy! I was disappointed they no longer have gf, but they made it up to me in store and assured me they are currently working on a new gf batch with new vendors. I loved the decor, the coffee, the donuts, the baristas, and how well Sugar Shack fits into the Richmond appeal. I don't think they have the best doughnuts I've ever had, but they're definitely worth a bite!

Want to clarify a review that is on here from a few years ago ? but surfaces when you search for gluten free options in/around Richmond. The team here is friendly and kind, but this shop DOES NOT offer gluten free donuts!! Posting this as a review to help others avoid my experience as there are not GF donuts. Thanks!

Donuts are absolutely to die for. I don't know how I lived without them my whole life.i ate aver 12 different types so far and each one was the bomb. My son got hot chocolate and absolutely loved it.

I went in the store for a door dash and tried one of the red velvet donuts. Definitely really good, skip the Dunkin and go here next time.

I don?t consider myself a donut connoisseur, but I wasn?t particularly impressed with Sugar Shack. Staff was kind but a bit sluggish when preparing orders/coffee. We purchased 6 donuts - the old fashioned donut was simply amazing. Best sour cream donut I?ve had. The others, not so great. The dough was tasteless and huge. It overpowered the icing/toppings. In my honest opinion, those tasted like a larger donut from Dunkin. I would go back only for the old fashioned donuts.

Just the smell of this place says it all ??. To be able to see them make the donuts and eat them while they are warm and fresh. The coffee drinks are great, the staff is awesome. I've never had a bad experience here. I rock my sugar shack shirt loud and proud in NH. I make it a point to visit twice while I'm vacationing in RVA.

A lot of them are really sweet though so that's not your thing, you might want to ask for recommendations (or just cut it in half and enjoy the perfection that is Sugar Shack- just a suggestion). I?m giving Sugar Shack 5 stars because their Samoa is the best f**king donut I?ve ever had in my life. The customer service is okay, however, I feel nowadays all food service spots are struggling. Great customer service and delicious fresh doughnuts! Only thing to mention is if you order online for an early morning pickup, call them before you leave as the doughnuts need time to rise and cook - anything fresh may not be ready until after 8am. Boston Creme, the doughnut holes, and apple fritters are some of our favorites!!

They definitely had a variety some known some unknown and I bought them all. On a scale of romances to documentaries, Sugar Shack Donuts & Coffee is the TikTok you keep on loop. My dog and I took a walk from Scott's Addition to Sugar Shack, and I was surprised by how long the line was (nearly out the door) on a weekday. Always great donuts. They have excellent coffee and the specialty drinks are well prepared. If they are missing a donut, ask as they may not have it in the case. My personal favorite is the original cake donut, preferably when they have them iced with sprinkles.
