Best coffee I've had in a long time. Staff is great. They roast their own coffee on site. Lots of space to work or even events. It's simple... GREAT Coffee and a place to drink it. Indoor and outdoor seating.
Visited during a side trip to SF while on our honeymoon in Tahoe ? States Coffee is a viiiiiiibe. The coffee is superior to anything I've had before. The atmosphere is well design and laid out ? BONUS points for some of the emo music I heard there. The pastries (I've heard from my wife) are incredible...I just don't fancy sweets myself. Must visit. Must get to know the staff. This should be your regular coffeeshop if you're around the area!
Visiting from PA! Amazing coffee ?? and the employees are awesome and sweet! Order a cortado! Just perfect! Thank you for my complementary coffee bag! ??. The best!
The coffee and food is always great! Fresh pastries daily, and talented baristas you can TASTE the difference between Starbucks and this coffee. Atmosphere is wonderful as well!
The most important thing I will say here is that the Honey Latte from this States Coffee is the best coffee drink I?ve ever had and I STRUGGLE to find any other coffee drink as conparatively delicious. It is rich with coffee flavor, just sweet enough, and extremely well balanced. Perfect latte, I feel addiction jitters if I don?t get it every Saturday / Sunday.
States Coffee in Martinez is hands down the best coffee shop in town! What really sets them apart is their consistency?every drink is spot on, every single time. Whether I?m grabbing a cappuccino, a latte, or just a solid drip coffee, it?s always perfectly made. The best part? There?s zero coffee snobbery here. The vibe is warm, welcoming, and down-to-earth. They care about making great coffee without the pretentiousness that some other places seem to thrive on. The shop itself is a cozy, inviting space t
I found myself in Martinez during a trip and decided that since it?s early I wanted to get something to drink. A quick search led me to States Cafe where the atmosphere is cool, the drinks are delightful, and the pastries are just delicious. As for me, I ordered a decaf honey latte that as soon as I took I could taste the honey. It paired well with the banana bread I ordered as the sweetness of both balanced each other out. Now I wonder how it?ll pair with the pastries. Anyways, this a great cafe to come t
States Coffee Shop has become my go-to spot for a perfect cup of coffee. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, making it ideal for both catching up with friends or enjoying some quiet time alone. Their coffee is simply outstanding, with a rich flavor that beats any chain coffee shop hands down. I love knowing that I'm supporting a local business that cares about quality and community. Say goodbye to Starbucks and hello to States Coffee Shop!
Love the coffee here ! Definitely try their seasonal menu - they here a ?orange dark mocha? currently!
Great place to stop by to get a great coffee and pastry in Martinez. I loved the banana bread and honey latte. Staff was super friendly!
What a cute little coffee shop! We usually go to the Benicia location which is smaller and way more crowded. Happened to be in Martinez and had to stop for a ginger matcha latte, so good. I?ve heard their pastries are amazing but honestly I just always have to get an avocado toast and a Nutella toast. They?re definitely on the pricier side but so worth it. Employees are always friendly and in a good mood.
I stopped by States Coffee today, my favorite spot in Contra Costa. The vibe is cozy, and the coffee is phenomenal, but the real highlight is Janibel. She took my order with the sweetest smile. The Lavender Honey Latte was absolute perfection, smooth, slightly sweet, and hands down the best I?ve ever had. If you haven?t been here yet, you?re seriously missing out. Great coffee, excellent service?
Not sure why so many overall stars. Cool atmosphere and interesting design. Especially enjoyed the coffee machine in the second hall. Gibraltar coffee was flavorful however bitter. Roast was not mentioned while ordering. Location is nice and staff was pleasant, although hard to hear through the mask. Will have to give it one more try to hopefully increase the rating.
Delicious coffee. No sugar needed. I had a standard drip. Had Jury Duty in Martinez, this is a few blocks from the courthouse. Looks brand new inside. Huge, multi storefront open space inside, separate family area. Tons of place to work or just relax. Classic red brick, black steel interior. They roast coffee inside the space - a little loud and a little stinky but cool nonetheless. Had a danish and it was delicious. Large bakery case with lots of choices. Prices: average for the area. $4.00 drip cup. Nee
By far the best coffee in the Bay Area and beyond. Just know it will take 20-40 minutes during busy times to get your drink - worth it! Pastries are great as well. I will never stop coming here!
A lovely place to stop and grab a bite or spend a little time enjoying a coffee date with a friend. States Coffee is located in the heart of downtown Benicia. I ordered the avocado toast which I loved because they add feta cheese on top! Just wow! If you find yourself in Benicia, I highly recommend States Coffee!
What a cool brick walled cafe - lots of seating areas, high ceilings, watch the coffee roast as you work or chat. Not cheap but the quality is here. I looove the smell of roasting coffee!
So happy I popped in here! Honestly, I got to the area after the other coffee places closed, but with such a high rating and closing at 6 PM on a Sunday, how can I help myself?! Lovely establishment with thoughtful staff and quick service! My decaf coffee was legit amazing which was refreshing because many places neglect their decaf offerings. The almond financier had an amazing texture, akin to a Madeleine. Overall fantastic in every regard!
This place has been saved to my map for a hot minute and I was finally able to make a trip with the excuse of hosting a meetup. We ended up having 7 people total! Regardless, I ordered a hot latte (honey or vanilla, can't remember) and a slice of banana bread. $9. Yikes. So I ended up trading my hot for an iced with a friend and it tasted pretty good. After we were there chatting for a bit, I had my friend order me a cashew almond toast. It was so thick. The bread was a lot of chewing action. A lot. The cas
Great gem of a 3rd wave coffee shop nestled in downtown Martinez. At the time I was there, they were not serving espresso beverages, just brewed coffee, which is what I was going to have anyway - it was super delicious. They also carry an assortment of donuts and other pastries. The WiFi is also blazing fast, as seen in my speed test screen capture. Highly recommend this cafe! I will definitely be back!
Just visited this place for the first time and it won?t be my last. The coffee was as good as I expected and I had high expectations. My surprise came from the donuts, we tried the chocolate and the blue berry and oh man were they amazing. Can?t wait to go back.
Very nice baristas! And really great coffee ! The menu was easy to read, the location is visually clean ( relaxing). They have cute little plants as decor and asked if I can a little cutting, and they even gave me a cup for my cutting! Thank you!
This is a spacious coffee shop in a quaint block of Downtown Martinez. Locals come here to study and enjoy a nice coffee where there's tons of room to do so! I've always enjoyed their bottled cold brews and cortados. The decor gives me vintage-industrial modern vibes which suits the area very well. I've been frequenting this joint for years and their service & quality has been top-notch.
Long line on weekend morning. Seating has ridiculous bar across dividing the place in 2. Staff gave a hard time for not waiting in line again for a refill on my black coffee. I had no idea I should wait in the long line again! They should revisit that policy. They didn't have what I wanted to order. What the did have was great. Cranberry toast.
Beautiful coffee spot. Great, fresh espresso and beautiful latte art by one of the baristas. Also a great atmosphere - quiet but cozy and really well appointed decor.
Cute spot and delicious coffee, but most of the time is close even in the webpage say Open, to bad. I drove from Berkeley to get some bread and alway is close before the time they post on website. I suggest to call before you plan to get there.
Finally got a chance to drop in here. Been trying to for weeks. Love the environment. The atmosphere is inviting and very relaxing. Great outdoor seating as well as in. They also have a cool like dot where they some some small trinkets and things. Handmade soap and things too. I got two bags of coffee and tried the house Espresso. It was great. More of a balanced type nothing stood out specifically. Maybe less tartness and citrus than I typically like but it was equally great.
Going to stares feels like coming home. Excellence is in the DNA of each drink, smile and moment. A neighborhood watering hole of good coffee, delicious bread and community
I?ve been going to this place for years, and even with staff changes the quality always stays the same. Every Sunday and Monday I religiously get my coffee here in the morning. Yes, the line may be long sometimes, but that just shows how good their coffee is and that it?s worth waiting for. Unfortunately, I can?t remember everybody?s name of the typical Sunday and Monday morning crew, but every time I walk in there, I feel like I?m being greeted as if I?m in an episode of ?Cheers?. Ariel and Graci are defin
First step to a great coffee shop is the option of wonderful caffinated beverages. Check. Second step is a beautiful atmosphere. Check. Finally, employees that are focused on their craft, thoughtful, and appreciatative to their customers. Check. Thank you - Aerial, Jasmine, Dylan, Marlon, Chloe, Graciela, Ryoma, Janibel, Quinn and whoever else has worked at State's Coffee.
The coffee was amazing and the avocado toast was to die for. Will definitely mmbe going back. Warning, be prepared for a lot of hipsters...lol
Maple donut, chai tea, and ginger tea latte. I don't know what it was about the chai, but it tasted really funny to me. We were a bit disappointed that there was no hot chocolate, but the place makes up for it. The space is huge, the employees are top notch, and the ambiance is relaxing. Worth a stop, especially if you like artisanal coffee, but I wouldn't recommend the chai.
Great coffee and amazing atmosphere. I went in after reading some reviews and I was pleasantly surprised. The people at the front helping me were kind and friendly. A really welcoming location. While there was a line it moved very quickly. Outside there were seats and inside you are able to sit in two rooms. There is plenty of space for you to choose from. I ordered the latte and I enjoyed it. Also had a maple donut which I thought was very tasty. This is definitely a place that I will come back to. I can d
Love this spot - been visiting this place whenever I am at Martinez. Cool spot Nice staff Lovely coffee & snacks
Very large space with plenty of room to spread out. There's also outdoor seating in case you bring your dog. Kind of pricey for the area. More expensive than getting Blue Bottle at $5 for a latte. The donut was unremarkable but was only $2. The cold brew was decent but nothing I'd go out of my way to stock at home. Plenty of parking but again, you're in Martinez. Not to much density to worry about. Can't imagine needing to park more than one block away.
Best coffee beans in the bay! I love a good medium roast and you can't beat this quality coffee at such an affordable price. Half pound bags are $13 and if you buy a pound you get a free drink! The ambiance is on point. Heads up though, their hours have changed due to staffing issues. As of now they are open from 6 am to 3 pm.
So amazing. Go for the maple donut and a "stamp" (their version of a cortado). Awesome decor, great coffee and espresso, the most friendly and welcoming staff. Highly recommended!
One of my favorite coffee shops in Bay Area! Always fresh roasted beans for sale, delicious coffee, cozy and spacious place.
Coffee is great and the lattes too. If you buy a bag of coffee you get one drink free and if you buy a drip coffee free refills all day.
I had a lavender Earl grey latte (no it isn't on the menu) it did not disappoint!!!
If you?re looking for good coffee in the area, States is an excellent choice. They also have solid baked goods if you need something to go with it. If they have it available, try the veggie scone or chocolate babka
I am a huge fan of States, my only complaint is that I wish I lived closer. The coffee is great. (My personal favorite drink is a gibraltar). I often come here as my alternate office, and the space is clean, and open, and if you're there on a roasting day, it smells all the more like coffee. :)
A posh coffee hotspot which is predictably overpriced. A 12 ounce Chai is 5.50. It was decent but tasted watered down. I have had better at two other establishments in Martinez.
Hip, yet quaint, clearly popular, community coffee spot in town...No pressure to move along so we enjoyed our tea and chat on their street side outdoor patio and had refills to boot! Thanks! Recommend!
Love States Coffee. I?ve recently switched my regular order there. I used to get the iced dark mocha (oat milk), but it?s slightly less milky than I?d like. Now I get the iced vanilla latte (oat milk) and it?s what I?m looking for. I miss sitting and working inside, but the outdoor seating is nice, assuming there?s any when you?re there.
Good coffee, it's a nice please for stay here in moments beautiful.
Chill vibe that's usually quiet enough to actually work! Great inside and outside seating and some of the best vegan cakes donuts I've ever had. And I'm not even a vegan!
I love this place and have been coming often for the last year since I graduated college and moved back home. My fam and I like to go on Sundays before the market for a coffee and toast. Over the year, they?ve offered the toast less and less to now, not offering it at all. To be honest, my family is obsessed with this toast and it?s 99% of the reason why we come every Sunday. We are truly disheartened to hear it?s discontinued and would like to please plead to bring it back!!!! Would definitely be giving th
They spent so much on the wonderful remodel of the old buildings they had nothing left over to invest in heart and soul.
States excels in all the ways a local coffee should. Coffee and bread are top shelf. Great community hub, especially on Sundays. Service is friendly and sincere. Sets the standard by which I measure other shops.
I love trying out new coffee shops and this coffee is so good and strong!! The vibes were very chill ??
I?ve been coming here for a few years now and it?s one of my favorite treats on the weekends. No matter how busy it is, the staff always is so kind and efficient! I get sad when they don?t have the cream cheese toast but I can live bc their coffee is soooo good. I love the cherry almond cake & bacon scone as well.
OMG. They play the worst music. Like I want to attend a rave, instead of trying to enjoy a cuppa.
Delicious coffee- even their decaf! Amazing pastries. Cool atmosphere with tons of seating. Cute location in downtown Martinez. We?ll be regulars here!
Fantastic coffee and breakfast roll. Will try other goodies next time.
The best coffee and service in the Bay Area. I dont know how they do it, but this is the best coffee shop I have ever been, and I have been in a LOT. The freshly roasted coffee, the flavor variety, the service, the environment, the vibe, the folks behind the counter, the avotoast, the banana bread, I can just go on and on, everything is just stellar! If I had to be very picky, the only two things that I could suggest is: a) to have a more standardized operating schedule, I always have to check whether they
Cold Brews and Cool Vibes. Highly Recommend
States by far has the best coffee in the Bay Area. They not only grind beans in-house, they ROAST their beans right there in the coffee shop. And you can taste the difference. Also an excellent space and atmosphere to relax
Great coffee and space! Loved all the merch they have and the vibe of the staff is awesome.
Awesome local cafe. Great clean space, music, and of course coffee. Perfect atmosphere for sitting, sipping, and thinking.
I love the drip coffee here and the pastries are off the chart. My wife and I have tried many of them but my favorites are the cinnamon roll and the chocolate babka. The place is popular so there is usually a line. However the crew is very efficient and the line moves quickly. States is a top notch coffee shop.
Good coffee and pastries, nice staff, cozy cafe to spend time or work
Crazy expensive! Only one size available? tiny! I guess they can?t have a large because it would probably be $15 a cup.
Coffee is good and mocha is dark instead of milky sweet which I appreciate. They REFUSE to do half?s on different milk tho which I have never encountered at another coffee shop. Say it wouldn?t taste good. I do that routinely elsewhere and believe it tastes fine. It?s strange to me that they would rather not make a sale than use two different milks (I?m talking like oat and whole) to the customer?s preference.
Great place. Great Coffee. Great people. Only two things they might consider changing are the hours. 8:00am open for a coffee shop? Makes it hard to grab a coffee before work. Possibly consider online ordering? Wait can take 30+ minutes for a cup of coffee at times.
Wonderful service and free refills on coffee. It?s roasted right there, and you can taste the freshness. Spent a 4 hour layover there and it was time well spent.
The drip coffee took ten minutes to come after ordering. I don?t think it was worth $3+ for 12 oz but better than Philz and Starbucks. The staff is really nice the the coffee shop is huge relative your typical Starbucks. It is not easy to find parking in the historic downtown but the walk is not boring. Glad to see a successful mom-n-pop coffee shop doing well!!
I love this place. We love this place. I love their coffees or special coffee based drinks, my wife loves their teas and my son enjoys the donuts. However I cant understand how they can be so slow at the registry. Usually there is only one person working there taking orders. But also the same person bags your bread or serve your donut or sometimes serves your coffee as the huge line waits patiently outside.. The wait is much less once you place your order.. Bakery selections are delicious, people are always
Really excellent coffee and tea lattes, however the bread is not very good. Not sure if it was old or just hard but gosh it was far from even the top 70% of baguettes I?ve ever had. This place also has truly the most random layout. There is a metal bar separating two sides of the business, so you have to walk outside to sit on the other side. Truly bizarre
Love this place. The coffee. The decor. The vibe. The everything. Simple, cool, and great stuff.
Great shot of espresso, good cup of batch brew drip, but I let it cool down for best taste. Large space with plenty of seats inside and out.
Coffee is good. Location is good. Overall kept clean and family friendly. Only downside is that the wait time can be quite long. If you?re not in a hurry and don?t mind waiting, then I?d recommend it.
It's a beautiful place and the workers are friendly and helpful. I was new to it, and they were very patient and kind to me. There's a lot of seating and it's really pretty. Coffee is good and it was nice to take a break there. Prices are alright.
They have dedicated workers. They will deliver your drinks to your table. The coffee is good too. The tea is freshly made. No bags sitting around. They make the tea bags from stored tea. They have several different kinds of scones and croissants
Overpriced. Service is minimal like with any coffee shop. Coffee is good, but not better than my Nespresso at home. I was using a gift card, but would not go back with my own money. Pastry was equivalent to Trader Joe's in quality and was $5. Seating is uncomfortable.
Been coming here since they opened. The staff has always been great, the atmosphere is beautiful and the coffee is amazing. I love the heart and soul blend. They have donuts, and "muffins", fresh baked local bread, homemade granola, and cold drinks as well. Also great to get as cup and stroll through downtown Martinez.
Amazing non-corporate style cafe. Wish there was a place like this in San Ramon.
The bread is delicious! Service is always friendly. Coffee is roasted with regularity. Long lines move very quick. Delicious VEGAN donuts. This place is everything other shops look to achieve but don't quite. If you don't live in the town of Martinez it's worth the drive!
My partner and I drive 20 minutes most weekends to get some of the toast and sit in the spacious area to get work done. The cinnamon toast is so good it's ridiculous. It's so simple but so good. Same with the seasonal jam toast. We have also brought some of the loaves home with us to have with some cheese and fruit. Fantastic. Lovely.
Cozy cafe where you get great coffee and nice sitting where one can work
I will start off by saying I've tried very hard to love this coffee shop but the stars received are for nothing more than the aesthetics of the building. Aside from that the coffee is always mid. The coffee never truly feels fresh and always too watered down. I've tried all the varieties of coffee brews but never have I been wowed by the taste; their pastries are somewhat okay. I hate to admit this place is overrated. The people I usually see are locals that don't have much of an option in this neighborhood
Loved it! Super cool environment, great coffee expertly made. Going again very soon. I love the cool van out back, love the graphic arts identity of the place, just love the vibe of being there. I wish Pleasant Hill had more local cool places like this (although there are some good ones in P-Hill too!)
Came in after a long hike and bike ride around 3pm. Not a long queue outside(earlier, before noon, there were about 20 people waiting outside). Service fast and courteous. The brewed coffee was very hot (too hot!?) and filled to the brim. Be sure to ask if you want room for the half&half or for oat milk they have available for self service. Tables and seating are pleasant outside, and in the nearby stream side park.
Nice atmosphere for just about any mood. We need more of these types of caf?s in America. They even roast their own coffee beans! And it taste delicious :) Though music a bit loud.
Great coffee. I like how they have rotating selections. The ambiance (when the inside is open) is very trendy and nice. I wouldn?t say ?comfy? though. It?s a little hipster, which is fine. If that?s what you?re into. But the coffee is great, and they sell bread there (maybe a colab or co owners from a nearby bakery I think?) which is also great. People come from all around to visit States and I see why.
Place is really unique and they go a long way to make sure the experience is the same.
Love States Coffee both in Martinez and Benicia. The mocha is my favorite and all their baked goods are fantastic. You can have a wonderful walk down to the water in both towns. It?s a great way to connect with nature and relax. Highly recommend.
Had a really good latte here and I bought their Kenya beans to make pour overs at home. Great place to hang out or get work done. I wish they had more seating but I guess that would change the atmosphere. Public parking available next to the building. 50 cents for 10 hours on weekdays and free on weekends. Will be back!
