Stan's Donut Shop

Stan's Donut Shop

Reviews Summary

Stan's Donuts is widely regarded as the best in the Bay Area, with its glazed donuts being the standout favorite—fluffy, soft, and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The buttermilk and maple varieties also receive high praise. The shop has a nostalgic, old-school vibe, cash-only policy, and often has long but fast-moving lines. Freshness is key, with many recommending early visits to secure the best selection. While most donuts excel, some find non-glazed options occasionally uneven. Prices are reasonable, and the experience feels timeless, making it a must-visit for donut lovers.

?????????? A Glazed Masterpiece at Stan?s Donuts ? Santa Clara If you're anywhere near Santa Clara and haven't been to Stan?s Donuts, you're seriously missing out on one of the Bay Area?s greatest treasures. While everything on their menu is worth a try, the real magic happens the moment you bite into one of their cake-like glazed donuts fresh out of the oil. These aren't your average donuts?they're warm, rich, and a smooth glaze on the outside, giving way to a moist, tender interior that melts in your mo

The best glazed donut in the Bay Area is at Stan?s. Don?t let the long line scare you. They move fast. It?s cash only but there?s an ATM in the back. It was $19 for a dozen. We got the glazed, chocolate glazed, and maple. Fresh out the fryer, soft as a pillow, with the perfect amount of sweetness, heavenly.

Old timey vibe that serves the best donuts on planet earth. Seriously, the best donuts EVER! The line runs out the door, but moved fairly quickly, and is well worth the wait. These donuts are made fresh all day long right in front of you, and have the perfect amount of sweetness, and the texture is unbelievable. A++++

If you?re craving sugar, oil, and fat all in one bite Stand Donuts is your heaven. These donuts are unapologetically indulgent: drenched in grease, overloaded with sugar, and dense enough to count as a workout just lifting one. Forget balance or subtlety this place is a full-on sugar bomb. If that?s what you?re after, they absolutely deliver. If you?re looking for flavor, freshness, or finesse maybe keep walking.

So good!! I loved the regular glazed, maple buttermilk, and apple fritter donuts. The glazed old fashioned was a bit sweet but the chocolate was really good. I got 5 donuts for $10. It?s cash only! The regular glazed was my favorite. It was so soft and was collapsing in my hand. Perfect amount of sweetness I can?t go to any other donut shop now.. these were too good.

I've heard about Stan's donuts for a while now and finally made the trip out. These are probably some of the best donuts I've ever had. I was especially fond of the maple buttermilk donut. Everything was balanced without being a sugar bomb. The texture was perfect. Since I got there late in the day around noon so there weren't a whole lot of options left but the options I did have I really enjoyed. Also the apple fritter really was delicious. It's thin but the thinness is what makes it so delicious. I'm u

We have to Stan's Donut about 4 times now. I must say, it's a "hit & miss". Some days the donuts are good, then some days, they are OK. I will say, this is a busy and famous place. So get there early or else you won't have much to choose from.

Stan?s is by far the best place to get donuts. I grew up here, then moved away, and I miss being close. Their classic glazed donut is out of this world and I haven?t met its match yet.

I had such high hopes that this donut institution would actually have cream filled donuts and know the difference between cream and custard considering they have both on their menu. I'm disappointed that their cream filled donuts are of the Boston cream variety which is a cousin to custard. I hate custard and I'm disappointed. Aside from this disappointment Stan's has good donuts. I probably won't come back though.

Good prices for really good donuts. There is a line so plan ahead. It?s worth it. Amazing to see a local donut shop doing well.

I was fortunate enough to have my co-worker bring some to work on Friday. The glazed donuts were so soft and just kind of melt in your mouth. A nice tasty treat.

With so much hype, I finally tried Donut from Stan. Got multiple different types of donut and I would say it?s mediocre, the glazed one is better. The one with strawberry flavor was over cooked and doesn?t have taste. Sprinkle ones are just ok. Cake ones are hmmm not what I expected. The worst part, in this technological era where AI is booming, they don?t have POS system to take credit card, only Cash. But they do have ATM machine inside the shop to take out cash ouch.

If you want to experience an Old fashioned absolutely wonderful donut store, you have to come here. I have been coming into this shop since the 1970s. And my fiance says it shows! Anyway, the donuts when they're fresh are the best I've ever had I used to go grab a donut and then go across the street to the Santa Clara aquatic center. My mother used to bring me here. She really enjoyed it too. Keep up the great work. I live in Florida now and whenever I come back to the Bay area I've got to stop into this pl

Legendary! A donut shop that?s been open since 1959, is doing it right. Lines out the door, tells you everybody else agrees. Walking into this shop and you feel transported back to a simpler time or your youth. Run to this shop!

This place is considered to be the best donut place around town by many. In fact, during one of the wildfire seasons when everyone was advised to stay indoors because of the unhealthy air quality, I still saw a line of people waiting diligently outside with the red skies and visible ash in the air at 5:40am. That's dedication. Btw 6am is a pretty late opening time for a doughnut shop around here. The line usually moves very fast even though it makes a snakey loop. I don't think I waited longer than 12 minu

Stan's Donuts is one of those places that has been delivering delicious decedant donuts for decades. I stopped by for the first time in person recently and was not dissapointed by the fresh (still warm) classic glaze, the lemon buttermilk (daily special), and a regular coffee. Try and arrive before 10 because the line goes out the door really fast!

I'm diabetic and didn't eat anything here. I Mark the food high because they have an amazing history of where his wife had taken these donuts. They even shipped them out to other nations upon requests. He said that Stan's was the second most famous in the world. Service is good but that may be because I was with a regular who has been going there for a very long time. The atmosphere is like time travel back to the soda fountains of old or like it is the counter seating at an old dinner. The menu on the wall

This place deserves their amazing reputation. Really long line when I arrived at 8:30 on Saturday, but they had lots of friendly efficient workers and it moved fast. Cash only but there?s an ATM. Excellent selection of standard classics (buttermilk, French cruller, glazed yeast ring) and more creative specialties. I got 3, but my favorite was a yeast ring with chocolate frosting and a layer of custard on top with a cherry on it. It had a donut hole stuffed into the hole, under the custard. Really unusual bu

Best donuts I?ve ever had! Big fan of the yeasted donuts for a great price . From what I remember, I needed cash. I 100% recommend the chocolate frosted donut - it has a good chocolate flavor and it?s not too sweet. I always recommend this place but you should get there early since they ran out before closing.

Been going here since I was a young teen, probably around 12 to 14 yrs old. I used to go with my bestfriend when he lived down the street from here. Good ol Stan's! If you have time, take a seat and have fresh donuts ?? off the cooling rack ?? And grab a milk ?? yummmm mmmmm ?? Love this place!!! My all time top place, with that being said, keep in mind: The line could be out the door ?? early morning 6am ?? Donuts are a must try if you're visiting or just live in the Bay area!!! What are you waiting for!?

Soo good! And I don't even like donuts! One of my coworkers brought them in to work one day and I tried one and actually enjoyed it very much. The cinnamon rolls are so good too! There was a line when I went around 10:30 on a Sunday but it moved fairly quickly. Can't complain about the prices either.

If you haven't tried Stan's Donuts yet, you are missing out on so much! I have been coming here ever since I was a kid, and the donuts have always stayed amazing. I am very fond of their custard filled donuts, so good thinking about it I'm already hungry! Easily the best donut place in the south bay!

Just donuts, but very good donuts. There?s always a line in the store. We like them because they aren?t overly sugary; they taste soft and fluffy?very good donuts! And the price is great too!

CASH ONLY FOLKS! But there is an ATM located inside. The best glazed donuts on planet earth. How could anyone not.love this place? Yes the lines are outrageous, but if you place your order ahead of time you don't have to wait. I always get their glazed donuts super fresh and hot. I haven't had any other flavors but my friends all love their old fashion and custard. There is also a sit down counter service for you to enjoy your coffee and eat a donut. Price is cheap for their donuts.

Straight from the fryer and doused with chocolate. That?s how fresh it was. Just see the video.OMG. This is heaven a hot cinnamon twist. Ginormous. Always the best as always. I use Stan?s as a benchmark wherever I go world wide. Okay now it?s time to eat it. As always, post wherever you feel the need. Update:07/29/22. It just reminds you the simple joys of life. Cup of Joe?s and one spankin hot glazed . Pics. Before and After. Cuts just like butter. The lady looked for the warmest donut without asking me. N

I'm disappointed it took me this long to try Stan's. They truly have fantastic donuts. I tried their glazed as well as the sugar donut. Glazed was crispy, but still fluffy. I enjoyed the fluffy sugar donut as well. Line is cramped inside. There were folks seated inside as well. Cash only. I only ordered 3 donuts...there was a bit of back and forth at checkout since they for some reason forgot to add a donut to the order. Excited to be back! Definitely a must visit if you're in the area! Parking is pre

This is one of the best donut shops I've ever visited, easily ranking in my top 3. Highlights include the regular glazed, crueller and buttermilk varieties. A+ quality, efficient operations and a view into how the donuts are made add to the charm. I will be back the next time I'm in town and recommend you stop by if you love donuts. Be advised they are a "cash only" shop. There is an ATM onsite.

This is the best place to have donuts in the bay area. Stan's Donut has been operating since 1959!

My cousin gave me the scoop. Best glazed donuts ever. I come from the Central Valley, so whenever I'm even remotely in the area, I make it a staple to stop by Stan's and bring home a dozen glazed. Two, if my wife is with me (they limit one dozen per customer). It's hard to describe the texture: soft, perfect chew and just pure goodness. Reheats excellent too! Other donuts are somewhat average.

This is my favorite donut shop in Bay Area. When I went on a Sunday morning at 10am, there was a line. My recommendations are the glazed donuts and custard donuts. Chocolate fashion is also delicious. The only thing to be aware of is that it is cache-only.

The BEST of the bay. Their Buttermilk Donuts are WORTH EVERY PENNY. ? They are always busy, except for the end of day in which they only have 2 types of donuts left for the day.

We just had a big doughnut taste test between the best in San Francisco and Stan?s. Stan?s was the unanimous favorite.

I arrive at 2 PM on Saturday. The glazed donuts were sold out, only yesterday?s glazed donuts were left, but they were price at half. I bought one glazed, one chocolate, one old-fashioned, and one sugar. The texture of these donuts is unlike any I have ever had, truly unique. My favorite is still the glazed, even though it?s been sitting for a day, it is still delicious. I would like to visit again. Remember to bring cash!

Seriously, their glazed donut may be the best donut I?ve ever eaten. When they?re fresh they melt in your mouth like I didn?t know was possible. Their twist is also crazy good. Cinnamon roll not good though tbh, too oily tasting somehow, so I would avoid that one but everything else is stellar.

I don't think you will find a better donut shop in the SF Bay Area. Super fresh, big and chewy! The decor leans heavily on its roots (founded in 1959). It's a hole in the wall. No place to eat in, but it is popular! And for a good reason. If you preorder, you can just announce when you arrive and you are good to go. CASH ONLY!

These are the fluffiest handmade donuts I have ever tasted. I tried their classic glazed donut, it was still warm when I brought it. It had a hint of a lemony flavor. OMGosh it was soooo good, soft and fluffy with no greasy aftertaste. The best!!

Stan's donuts have great glazed donuts, but the service is terrible. Staff does not tell you where you should line up and when you figure it out, they do not even help the people in order. Yes there is a sign, but it's hard to follow when other people are currently lining up in the wrong direction and telling you different. They helped one person who cut in front of a person and I in line. Then they helped another person who just came in and lined up in the wrong direction. When I thought she was done

This donut shop is one of the best and famous donut shop in the Bay area. They're donuts texture is different than other donut shop and a melting your mouth but not the same way as the Krispy Kreme donuts. Only problem is that you need to go there before 12:00 noon or else some of the more popular donuts will be sold out by then.

Really good donuts. Probably the best apple fritters in Santa Clara county, but custom service is garbage. They don?t answer calls, no matter what time you call, they website email contact does t work, I don?t even do reviews but this experience has left me with wanting to spend my money else where. Maybe Stans ownership doesn?t pay their staff enough or is cutting back staff because they pay to much. Not sure. But, cutting back on service is counterproductive.

Best donuts ever. The dough is so fluffy compared to other donuts.

This is a almost year late post, however I just so happen to be visiting from Portland, OR and asked my bestie where can I get a good donut and she recommended this place. When I pulled up there was a line, so I knew it had to be good and worth the wait. I did not waste anytime and ate these in my car. One of the best donuts ?? ?? I ever had.

I?m a huge fan of the donuts here. The glazed donut is light, fluffy and doughy all at the same time. Also not as sweet as other places. Probably my favorite glazed donut and I?ve tried many. The chocolate with almond was excellent too. The chocolate tasted like real chocolate and not the spread the other places use. Sadly I don?t live anywhere close to this gem but would come back here again and again.

Jellies must be pre-ordered or go early Giant Donut is enough for 3 people. It's very old style in there, and they only do cash only, probably because they don't pay taxes. They should take credit card and not be stingy.

The best donut in the south bay. My doctor says don?t eat donut for my heath, but when I do, I come to Stan?s. Cash only is a bit painful.

Have been coming for years! Highly recommend the twist and maple glaze anything. There is something special about Stan's; their donuts are just so flavorful. Lines are long on the weekend and they do sell out so plan accordingly!

Had been wanting to try these for a long time. They are good but a few caveats: The place is extremely popular among the locals and is cash and check only. So on weekends, be prepared to go there early (7-8 am) and wait in line for 30-40 mins. Also, they run out of donuts pretty fast. They have a small selection but its a good one. Amongst the donuts we tried, I strongly recommend the glazed donut which is their most popular one. The lime buttermilk was also nice. I couldn?t really taste the chocolate in

Pros: Friendly staff, great old fashioned donut shop ambiance, great prices (dozen glazed for just over $10). Donuts are attractive and have a great taste. Cons: Not sure if other people enjoy this, or if my batch just wasn't great, but my warm glazed donut turned back into dough in my mouth. I feel like the batch must have been under-fried. Luckily my buttermilk donut had a good consistency to it. Overall: fun place to go if you don't mind the wait (can sometimes be around 30 minutes until the next batch

A coworker of mine brought donuts in from this shop, and I have to say? these are some of the softest donuts I?ve ever had. The maple glazed was excellent. I?m really curious to come back to this shop for some other flavors.

I went a little before 7AM on a rainy day and didn?t have to wait at all. I read a review that said that only the original glazed donuts were worth it, but I wanted to get a variety, as it was my first time going. The original glazed donuts and the cinnamon twists were so incredibly fluffy. They have to be the best donuts I?ve ever had!! I also got a rainbow chocolate sprinkle, chocolate, glazed old fashion, and maple. These were a little denser, but still soft. They were too sweet for me, but if you have

I see why the line is very long. I heard that this donut shop serves freshly made donuts, which is the reason why it's one of the most popular donut shops in the Bay Area. The line is very long based on what people said, but quick at the same time. You have to wait until certain amount of people leave the shop. I normally don't go that far to get donuts, but decided to come here because of its popularity. From the inside, you can see workers make donuts in front of you and have like an old-fashioned design

Love this place. I come every week. Friendly, nice people work here and donut, wow, no store can beat, best donut, with great coffee

I've been coming here since I was 2 years old, and their donuts are ALWAYS fresh!!! Best donuts I've ever tasted in my entire life!!! Staff are so friendly and down to earth. I love the ambiance! Coffee is delicious. I recommend coming before 11. This establishment deserves way more than 5 stars. SUPERB!!!

The best glazed donut and expect long wait. Only cash and they have ATM inside. I have been here every weekend to order donuts for volunteers. I usually called ahead to order the 2 dozens and 1 box of chocolate and 1 box of sugar. It?s very popular with local and also tourist.

I was just gifted the opportunity to enjoy these amazing donuts. Hands down my favorite! They are so soft and light without needing to be freshly out the fryer! I can't wait to go there myself and highly recommend everyone experience them.

Omg, I ordered 4 donuts and they were piping hot and delicious. My cinnamon roll tasted like a hot churro, so good. I just finished eating the best donut I have ever had in my lifetime. Thank you Stan's donuts, you have truly made my day!

Bite of a glazed donut here is a exciting start of a day. Be prepared to be in a long queue even when you touch down around 6 am. But absolutely worth it. They make dough of relatively small batch to maintain freshness which is impressive. Their coffee has better fit with their donuts than those of Starbucks and Peet's.

So life is expensive these days. I don?t go out as much anymore. This one is worth it though and it won?t break the bank. This is a fresh, fluffy, light, with just the right amount of sweet maple donut. And their bars are legit gold bar sized donuts. Where can you find a place like this these days. Everything is all mega corporate which is fine, but when you have a place like this nearby, this is where you should go. You go because it is just good and it?s not going to stop being this good.

Some of the best donuts I've ever had and I get around. They're usually sold out by afternoon, but perfect to pick up a dozen for the office. Cash only with daily specials. $20 for a dozen

Definitely the best donut in the whole Bay Area. Especially their glaze is the best. I like to have the donut right there at the shop with coffee when its still hot. Don't forget they only accept cash. There is an ATM machine in the store as well. No apple pay or venmo accepted.

It?s slightly crowded at times, but they have the best doughnuts. Also, they?re not a chain brand so this is the one and only place to get the love filled, carefully hand made doughnuts. All the staff were so nice and the doughnuts were only $1.50 each. There are also amazing cinnamon twists. They serve glazed doughnut holes on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Just an incredible place, I would definitely recommend.

Absolutely the best donuts in the bay area! As expected there was a very long line but it moved quickly. Also, they increased their prices since I was last here. Still very much worth it IMHO. Remember to bring cash and don't skip on the buttermilk donut of the day, they are AMAZING!

The BEST donuts in the Bay Area! You HAVE to try a glazed donut from here if you are in the area or craving a donut. The dough is perfectly cooked, chewy and melts in your mouth.

The best old-timey donuts in the Bay area! Try the lemon buttermilk and glazed jelly filled ??. All the cooking is done in the shop, right in front of you, which is an experience all by itself. The ambiance is dated, the staff is friendly and all smiles.

I'm absolutely IN LOVE with Stan's donuts! my first visit was on a Saturday morning at around 9+, while the queue was starting to form, the queue moves very fast and i was placing my order within a short 5minute. The variety they have is amazing. The Jelly donut is so fluffy and a perfect mix of amazing. The glazed is such a wonderful classic, not too sweet, not too thick, perfectly fluffy and melt's in your mouth when you get a freshly made one. I dined in at the counters and happily watched Abe, one of t

Our favorite donut place! Best glaze and cake donuts. Dunno what it is but it just taste different from others. Fresh, yummy and cheap.

If I have the choice and only get to save one donut shop in the bay area, it would be this place. Come in the morning and you can get a still warm glazed donut. I like to have a cup of coffee. Prices are really good.

I can?t explain it but it?s like Krispy Kreme ran so this place could Usain Bolt in the donut world. It was the best donut in my entire life. They only take cash. They are that gurl!

Stop reading this and just drive over and get yourself some donuts. Absolutely phenomenal. Step into tradition and history. Enjoy donuts made with love. You can taste that Stan's does not cut corners. Fabulous. Glazed is out of this world - crunchy, chewy, and soft all at the same time. The cakes are soft and airy without it being stuffy. Your mind will be blown.

Glazed or sugar donuts for about one dollar you can bite into one of the most tastiest soft donut in Santa Clara,California . so delicious , you can dip in milk or coffee. you will surely enjoy this donut. located at Mariposa shopping center at Homestead road. before you leave grab a box for takeout.

Finally had the chance to try Stan?s donut shop. Came here in the morning at about 5:30Am and there was already a line starting. But atleast when the shop opened up, the line moved fast I got the glazed and chocolate donuts, I can recommend the glazed donut it was really good and cakey, one or 2 will easily fill you up. Their coffee wasn?t bad, wasn?t amazing either, just regular coffee Only disappointment is why it opens so late, maple leaf on Saratoga avenue opens at 4:30Am and bad places to sit and eat

Great classic donuts at great prices. I've been eating these since I was a kid and they're still some of the best. I came at opening and they either had already sold a good amount or we're still making them, maybe they just make them fresh all day! In any case, the case is pretty small and not a huge variety, but the staples like glazed and chocolate glazed were plentiful. There's also and old fashioned bar to eat a donut and have a coffee, but maybe not until things go back to normal (post Rona).

Best donuts in the Bay Area, especially if you get them fresh. I had 3 glazed donuts in a day and it was still not enough. Cash only, make sure you get there early!!!

This is really an early gem. They open early literally ?? came to pick up a box of donut to take back home via flight. But next time I will have it here. The aroma oozes your nose as soon as u are in. Very happy that life?s good

Been going here since the 80s and still the best glazed donut in the world. Best to eat the glazed donut at the counter with a fork, a cup of coffee and read the newspaper? Aaaah the good ole? days. Bonus: Huge Maple Bar

They make raised donuts, so they are super fluffy and soft and they are the best donuts I had in the bay area. Since their donuts are great, the shop is always busy which means you always get fresh donuts.

Drove 25 minutes to Stans and the buttermilk was doughy in the middle. We love Stans and will come back again, but this was a bummer. If you?re driving a long way it might be worth it to cut one in half to make sure you don?t end up driving for under cooked, inedible donuts.

Best donuts I've ever had. It's tough to eat any other donut after having had Stan's.

Best buttermilk donuts. So moist and yummy. Variety of favors daily. Glazed are good ?? but i love their buttermilk.

City-wide destination! Sunday morning, and too early for really long lines. Pastries were still warm, huge, and made in front of you as they try to keep up. Amazing place! Do not miss. Prices are VERY reasonable. Kids and adults wildest expectations met, nice job Stan's!

Absolutely fantastic yeasted donuts. Got there early on a Thursday morning, 6:30am because I was afraid they would sell out. This shop opens at 6 and by the time I got there, many others already bought their donuts too. There were about 5 people ahead of me in line but the service is efficient so there was barely any wait. The most popular item here is the original glazed yeasted donuts. In the past, I believe there's a limit of 1 dozen of those per customer. I'm not sure if there is still such a limit

Can only get 2 dozen max & cash only. Traditional taste on the glazed. Starting to get smaller through the years but still the same recipe.

Really yummy donuts~ will come back for sure

Absolutely delicious donuts! Service was prompt and friendly. The dough makes all the difference, as the delicious cake-i-ness combined with tasty glazes dance upon your palate. I absolutely recommend it, one of the best donuts you can find in the bay, or anywhere else!

Omg!!! I never eat so delicious donuts in my life!!!

As a Bay Area native this is the only place that I would say provides a great enough experience that it is a MUST VISIT. There are donut's and then there are Stan's Donuts. These are on another echelon of greatness.

Friendly people. Fantastic donuts. Plenty of parking. What's not to like? Well, if you don't get there early the line gets pretty long. They will let you pay in advance and wait until your number is called if they don't have what you want ready. It's fun to watch the hand made dough being worked and each donut cut by hand. It's worth a drive, just get there early or there might not be any glazed left. Better donuts than most trendy places. Stan's makes wonderful yeasty dough, which is the star of the expe

Get the glazed donuts and call ahead 24 hrs in advance if you don?t want to wait in line. The glazed donut is just so fluffy, rich, and light? I haven?t had a glazed donut like this one. Made the mistake of getting donuts other than the glazed, which were all just OK. The maple old fashioned was a bit too sweet, the buttermilk was a little too doughy, but the apple fritter monday special was good. Just go for the glazed classic and it?s a 5 out of 5.

I read the reviews before I decided to go. Most people recommend the original glazed donuts. I bought that. It is REALLY GOOD! Especially when it is hot, fresh cooked. Some review mentioned that expect standing in line for a while (6 to 7 person before you), but the line moves fast usually. However, the day I went, the line was super long! More than 10 for sure. When I closed to the door, the line was even longer! Even though the line moves fast, you still need to wait for the donuts to be cooked. So stood
