SPKRBOX

SPKRBOX

Reviews Summary

Spkrbox is generally praised for its unique atmosphere, great coffee cocktails (especially espresso martinis), and friendly bartenders, with many highlighting the cool vibe and music. However, service can be inconsistent—some staff are rude or unhelpful, and a few customers reported issues like lost cards or poor drink quality. The space is small but charming, though it gets crowded. While most reviews are glowing (5-stars), a few negative experiences (rude service, overpriced drinks, or racial insensitivity) detract from the overall impression. Daytime coffee and nighttime cocktails both receive high marks, but seating is limited.

Went for a Saturday late night cocktail and to hear some music, on the recommendation of a different bartender elsewhere in town. Did not expect to find a selection of excellent coffee-based cocktails and *two* separate music spaces, each with a different dj spinning chill house EDM. The space is really unusual and fun, the service was great, and the music was killer. They spent some money on quality sound equipment in both spaces, and the result is that it was full volume without being oppressively loud. I

One of the best espresso martini?s in Detroit. I?ve only ever come here for their alcoholic drinks, but I?ve heard their regular coffee/lattes are amazing. Bartenders are always super friendly and quick. Not a lot of seating inside and can really fill up as the night goes on, I recommend getting here earlier in the night. Almost all of the drinks are coffe/espresso, but always very good.

Coffee shop that also is a bar. But also a hangout for cool people! And there?s a secret in the basement if you know you know ? ;)

Destiny makes the best espresso martinis ever. Literally, this signature pecan espresso martini is so amazing!!! Thanks girl and thanks Jeff for all your help as well, you?re a rockstar! If you?re feeling froggy add pecan *giggles!

Their coffee and alcoholic drinks are unmatched!! They are so creative with classics like old fashioneds and the El Duderino is one of my favorite drinks ever. Bartenders really know what they are doing. Not to mention, I left my purse here on accident one night and they grabbed it and kept it safe for me till I could get it the next day!! PS their chocolate chip cookies are to die for

Look yall, I had a lot of fun there. I got to DJ, I got to hang with friends and I went back for another night during my visit. If you?re looking for a spot do dance, it?s worth it to spend money on the ticket to go downstairs. I?m not sure what the music vibe is on most nights, but if you see diedforthis, DJ Ellie or Devin On the flyer, 10/10 would recommend!

I studied into this bar on a random Thursday. To my surprise i had the greatest night ever all thanks to a bar tender named Ashley. She was so attentive and provided the best vibes. It?s is now my favorite place. I go back just to see her! Go see Ashley you won?t be disappointed! 10/10 bartender

I know that everyone says that they are mean to you here, but honestly, the staff could not have been nicer. Super small space. Think of the smallest cafe you have been to in NYC, then cut it in half. There is an even smaller area upstairs, that has a DJ rig and some good street views. The Coffee was very strong, and they even brewed a single cup of decaf for a young lady who came in. They only had half & half, no cream was out. Tiny restroom is charming in its own weird way too. I'll have to come ba

went here Wednesday June 12, around 1:30p or so. Typical work day so there was no customers in there really. Probably 2 ppl came in while i was there? The staff was friendly/nice. We discussed alot. I liked the espresso martini but it had a lil too much milk to me. The other drink i tried, the El Duderino was amazing! I?ll be back? i ordered food from Iggys as suggested & it was soooo worth it. & i got to sit on Spkrbox patio to enjoy it!

Decided to stop by this morning for two hot green fairy lattes which were delicious! Very tasty and not foamy at all. Definitely will be craving it again later. The cinnamon donuts were bland, tasted like sugary bread. The barista was rude, I asked him to add something to my latte and he said, ?This is a bar with coffee, not a caf?.? Unnecessary attitude, maybe he was having a bad day but no need to respond rudely to a polite request. The atmosphere is small and perfect for a quick stop to grab a coffee or

This is a spot. Every detail feels intentional. From the DJ booth to the stacking fiberglass chairs. The space can feel tight initially, but a few sips into your coffee watching the city wake up on a weekend and it all comes together. My barista was knowledge and a skilled, my drink was perfect, the whole experience was one I hope to repeat as often as possible. ...And I'm very much looking forward to seeing the other half of the experience after the sun goes down.

i had such a good experience here with my boyfriend! the bartender/barista was super friendly and made convo & the drinks were really good. would definitely recommend to anyone who likes coffee and music.

Some of the best espresso martinis in the city, great late night stop!

Great drinks in an even better space. This a a place of legend. Would love to frequent here more but those east coast prices are tough.

Wildcard. What do you call a cafe cocktail bar that is only slightly bigger than a breadbox? Spkrbox is so small that they had to remove some letters from the name so it would fit the location. Great location too in Capital Park where all the cool places are. I think my favorite thing was the view from the upstairs where you can people watch all day.

This place is definitely a gem! The atmosphere feels very cool. I came here for coffee and it was great, the bartender barista was very sweet, and her playlist was fire. Anyways I?ll have to come back here at night sometime to check out that aspect.

Coffee shop by day and dance party by night. This quirky music themed bar offers a wide range of beverages to suit any occasion. The staff here are very friendly and make you feel part of the crew. P.S don't forget to check out the hidden bar in the basement.

Such a cool place, love the drink menu (the espresso martinis are dangerously good). The staff was amazing and my wife and I loved the the atmosphere!

Awesome place with an upstairs sitting room. There?s coffee, beer, cocktails, etc. Chill music and very unique design. This became one of my favorite coffee spaces! So unique come check it out !! ??

A fun cozy place to enjoy some wonderful coffee and unique alcoholic drinks. Navigating the tiny spaces is part of the experience. I love the view from the loft.

Hands down the best espresso martini that I've ever had! The space is a little tight but the bartender was very nice and the line moved quickly.

I absolutely love the Spkrbox! Whenever I am downtown with friends we enjoy having cocktails or even a delicious coffee here! I highly recommend checking this place out!

Nice little 2-level bar with dj spinning good music. Stopped by on a Monday night. Vibe is cool & non-pretentious.

Such a cute place with great drinks and great service! The bartender was so nice and makes an awesome El Duderino. Can?t wait to come back soon!

I like to go dancing here. Very cool crowd. There are three levels two of which usually have DJs.

Great house + techno music. Much better music than some more popular bars. Coffee is amazing. The architecture and design is incredible as well

That was my first time there the owners are very nice and pleasant I really enjoyed my drink and I will return so if you never been there you should go the atmosphere is wonderful

Coffee cocktails are perfectly curated. And the music is always booming ?? The best beats in town!

Why not having a cocktail in the middle of the day? Espresso Martini and Irish coffee definitely brightened today's gloomy weather ??? Super-nice place, super-friendly stuff ??

The vibe was nice; the DJ was playing house beats. The place itself is cozy and cute. However, our drinks were the wrong order and it made my stomach hurt. Also, one of the chairs upstairs was dirty, I hope it was just dirt. I wanted to like this coffee shop however, it's a no for me on the coffee.

Such a cool place! I ordered a mix drink and asked the bartender morgan to whip me something up. Literally made me the best mixed drink I?ve ever had. Vodka, lavender, lemon, soda water and her spin on it! Definitely Recommend this spot

I only had the espresso martini here, but it was so delicious! I don't normally like espresso martinis, but this was legit tasty.

Super unique spot in the heart of Detroit. Walking distance from any of the major sports stadiums. Cool spot to go to at any hour of the day, whether you're just starting it or coming as a nightcap. Update: Second time going. Everyone feels like a regular. Staff is friendlier than anywhere I've ever been. Lions pregame is a phenomenal move. Very dog and puppy friendly as well. This is such a great place to go at any time of day. Highly highly recommend. I got the Spanish coffee and LOVED it

My sister, her boyfriend, and I stopped here after seeing a musical at the Detroit Opera House. This place is located on a corner and has a cool, 70's/retro vibe to it. There are seats upstairs and a few seats near the bar on the main floor. They have a great list of coffee and cocktails. The bartender was so nice and was so much fun to talk to. I ordered the Espresso Martini that is made of vodka, St. George Nola, coffee reduction, milk, sugar, and is topped with three coffee beans. It tasted amazing a

Such a fun concept! I wish I could have stayed for a cocktail or beer, but coffee was more essential at that hour.

What a cool find. Very chill

HIGHLY recommend stopping by. I happened upon it (visiting Detroit) on a rainy night, was pleasantly surprised by the hours, offerings, atmosphere, and the lovely staff. I returned maybe 4 more times over my trip, staff was always lovely. Highly recommend the iced Irish coffees and their drip coffee offerings were always stellar. The little cookies I got were phenomenal. I met the owner the last day and he was very jovial and enthusiastic, talked about the music and how they shift the vibes for Detroit's Op

Cute ?? coffee spot and bar. Loved the dj and funky tracks tonight. Great use of space and decor

I should start off by saying I have been here probably 3-4 times. Always have loved the drinks and atmosphere. However, I brought some friends from out of town here over the weekend and was quite honestly embarrassed with how much I had talked it up on the walk over. The espresso martini was basically milk. Like I have never seen one so light (and yes I know it has milk in it but this thing was 90% milk). Staff acted like they didn?t want to be there, and an 8oz bottle of water is $2?!! When my friend made

Get a good laugh if you read the owners responses to bad reviews trying to justify his insane behavior. Still a great place tho!

Cute lil cafe turned into a cafe-bar. They were playing house/techno so it?s a nice time when you want to chill with a nice cocktail.

$7 for a crappy drink that was way too sweet - could not even drink it. What a waste!

Ashley makes the best coffee for your taste! The green fairy is amazing and the pistachio complements the coffee flavor phenomenally! A necessary detour in every morning excursion

I was in town with a friend and he was showing me around to a few bars. This little bar is such a cool place! I don?t remember the bar tenders name but he was really nice to talk too. Very polite and knowledgeable of some drinks. Orange Jamison and tonic hit the spot here for a night cap! Can?t wait to stop back at the Spkrbox!!

Let me start by saying, this has been one of my most recommended places to visit for friends traveling near and far. Being a resident of the city and living a block away makes this a convenient spot to frequent. During the week I come here often and on the weekends if I have friends visiting the city it?s always a go to spot with music and good vibes. However, tonight when arriving with friends we were met at the door at 1am telling us there was a cover charge. As a group, we made the decision that paying

Pro Tip: don?t expect too much from the bartender. But the beats are tasty and the little hidden booth is a great little gem if you need privacy or a seat with 4-6 friends. All in all cool spot but was let down by the service.

Great drinks if you're a coffee lover <3

In town for the weekend and we decided to get some espresso martinis, as we arrive me and my group of friends were the only ones there. Drinks were great and the place was a vibe. However everything change within seconds. We went up to the second floor and there was two DJ mixing some music with other guy and two chicks. As we were sitting enjoying our drinks and the great view, one of the young ladies that was hanging out with the DJs and other chick overdosed! we notice that she was on the ground and we i

This place is always a good time. Our bartender was very kind. If you can, be sure to checkout the basement; the atmosphere is on point. Their DJs are great as well.

We got there to enjoy an espresso martini cause we read they made great ones. We chilled upstairs to enjoy the music from the DJ. A girl overdosed and I had to administer NARCAN to bring her back to life. The staff did nothing. Didn?t even turn the music off. They actually told us not to call the police. And said the girl was fine. When I got to the girl she wasn?t breathing, was foaming at the mouth and had no pulse. After administering the narcan I did get her back to semiconsciousness while we waited for

Ashley was a great bartender. Espresso martini rocks! Great spot on the corner. I chilled with a couple martini's and watched the world go by.

I visited the place tonight and decided to enjoy the evening on the patio. We had already ordered three rounds of drinks, and as we started the fourth round, an unfamiliar person, who appeared to be a bouncer or security guard, began intimidating patrons to check their IDs. What struck me as odd was that he wasn't wearing any security guard attire or anything to identify himself in that role. To keep it brief, this individual displayed a remarkable lack of respect, and I've never encountered someone with su

We were hanging out with friends on the outdoor deck. Everything was fine until we were going to ordered our fourth round of drinks. Suddenly, a random person showed up, demanding our IDs without any proper identification himself. It got pretty disrespectful, and he even mocked us for being foreigners. What surprised me more was that the bartender sided with him. Don?t waste your money there they are racist.

I dropped by here on a Saturday night with my partner. It was relatively empty ,however, the bartenders deliberately walked past us multiple times and did not greet us. This went on for nearly 6-10 minutes before I asked if we would be served. We ended up leaving without drinks. If you?re a native to Detroit I?d suggest supporting an establishment who respects locals and has pride in their establishment. Because this wasn?t it.

Was excited to try this place. Really Cool building and look to it. We walked in and asked if they had any breakfast items with the coffee. The woman behind the counter rolled her eyes and 1/2 pointed to a platter of donuts and something wrapped in tinfoil. So we turned around and walked out. Too bad. DOCR across the street was very good coffee and nice. I?ll never understand treating customers with disdain.

Went there with a friend this morning for the first time. It?s so cute but the lady behind the counter was extremely rude. I stepped to the side to look at the menu and looked over to see her starring and frustrated with me, asking me if I?m going to order or not and motioning me to be faster. There was no one else waiting and I wasn?t even in front of her taking space. When I did order she didn?t say a word to me besides pointing to the pay screen. Coffee was amazing but what was the attitude for?

I went here last night & handed the barista my debit card to start a tab. I stayed awhile, had a couple drinks and forgot to grab my card when I left. Today when I went back to get my card the manager said they didn't have it after checking the cash register?? I went home, checked my account and there was a charge for my drinks so how could they not have my card the next day?? That issue aside, I love the atmosphere and vibe of this really funky, unique little coffee shop with a DJ spinning upstairs and

Awesome little spot for great music and atmosphere

Incredible coffee. Incredible drinks. And the espresso martini - even better. Be prepared for a loud, EDM setting if you plan to sit inside. The second floor mezzanine is a great hangout for people watching.

I love this place. I know I don't always have a craving for coffee but if I do this is the place to go. It's a great place to just sit and have a cup of coffee and read a book. People are friendly and the atmosphere is really cool.

It had a cool atmosphere. They have an upstairs too, but we didnt check that out. My friend and I just came in to get a shot of tequila each, and the bill was just over $40 We did get the best Tequila they had so ????? who knows if it was fairly priced, but to be honest it was REALLY smooth. Probably the best Tequila I've ever had ??

Really cool spot, and amazing coffee. But when they crank the music, and DJs start gearing to spin at noon- it?s not the most welcoming spot to get work done.

Stopped in after a Tiger's game for an Espresso. Guy at the door tried to charge me $10 cover to buy a coffee but ended up letting us in because we didn't go to the night club. Espresso was really bitter and harsh. Seemed like cool atmosphere but the Espresso was a big disappointment.

This place is really cool. Great coffee too.

I got 2 espresso martinis and one cookie. It was $39. I did not realize the espresso martini came with milk(they typically don?t), until I watched bartender make it. I advised my friend and he stated he couldn?t have it bc he?s lactose intolerant, I asked bartender to remake it due to this to which he responded ?what do you want me to do about it?? And refused to remake it without charging for a new drink. ***Edit*** based on owner response: It?s disappointing of a business owner to resort to baseless accu

I went there tonight and was sitting outside on the patio. We had already ordered three rounds when, during the fourth round, we encountered an unknown bouncer or security guard who was intimidating people to check their IDs. What's funny is that he wasn't wearing any security guard attire or anything to identify himself as a security guard or bouncer. To make a long story short, this guy was incredibly disrespectful, and I've never witnessed someone as low class as he is. What's even more surprising is tha

Amazing gem ?? one of the highlights of the trip from springfield ohio ??

From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed. The atmosphere was very relaxing, and you have options for seating as well as a private room off from the bar. The bartender/barista was very helpful in suggesting a drink and conversation in general. If you're ever in the D and you love trying new things, hop over to the Spkrbox 200 Grand River Detroit, MI 48826

Day update - Went back during the day and the vibes were off the chart. Would like to hang out here and drink coffee to music. Will have to gave the night 'techno club' another shot one day. So for now maybe a 4.5 star day experience and 3 star night experience. Night review - Cool spot and the top level dj will be spinning some great tunes but no one is dancing, just a bunch of lame statues. Then the basement is just way over crowded with some mid top 40s. Would be cool as can be if people weren't so lame

Really great staff who makes customers feel at home. Yummy drinks. I love the bar/coffee shop concept. if you're gonna go on a coffeeshop date, this is the place. Sometimes the music is loud, so don't bank on getting work done here. It's touch and go. But there is outlets and wifi.

One of my favorite coffee spots downtown. The interior is a vibe.

Love this place love the vibe... Was able to have a great cappuccino at the end of the night as well

Cute and quaint. 3 levels 2 dj's. The espresso martini were great. Patio seating. Service was friendly.

All the details were thought of at this awesome little bar. Gem of Detroit! ?? And, you literally can visit all day; every day.

My experience with Spkrbox was pretty chill my barista seemed very chill and made a lovely matcha latte that I would recommend and definitely would get again. The music was a bit strange at first and could be more relaxing for those trying to work and concentrate. Someone came and had an amazing playlist beautiful mixes very upbeat house music but otherwise had a great experience would definitely come back for the drinks and music.

Super awesome new coffee shop & bar! They have a lot of coffee options and a full bar. There?s 2 stories and both have a bar, though lower level has the full bar. Cute little nook on the first floor has two booths that are hidden behind a little curtain.. fun environment for a group of friends to hide out in!

I?ve had such amazing experiences here until tonight. We tried going downstairs without realizing there was a private party going on and was immediately yelled at by the bouncer. He started berating me saying ?you tried doing this last week? and accused me of things i never did even because I was NOT here last week and that was NOT me. Even after trying to defend myself, he continued to accuse me. It?s really such a shame because I LOVE this place but I can?t continue to support knowing they profile their

My friend and I visited today around 12 noon. The bartender was unbelievably rude to me. I simply asked which drink was which between mine and was treated to a nastiness I felt was entirely undeserved. If I DO go back and see that nasty bartender, I?ll turn around and walk out.

Honestly, one of my favorite places to go to, to have a drink. Best music you'll hear at any club or bar in Detroit imo

What a unique place. Since traveling to Norway I?ve found few spots in the US that does a great job with coffee AND cocktails, but this is certainly one of those places!

Super cool little place with awesome coffee

Good sound system. Too small to really dance.

I'm here now and it was hopping all night. No idea who dj bet is (I'm visiting from outta town for a concert) but the music was vibing all night. Drinks are good too. Highly recommended if near downtown detriot!

Great venue, great Atmosphere! Nothing bad to say about SPKRBOX. If you are into techno, or house, and good coffee and drinks this is the perfect place. Location is nice for exploring the area.

Visiting the city for a day. Saw this place and checked it out. Absolute diamond in the rough. Live DJ playing super fun House Techno. Small little place that should be packed everyday! Coffee and drinks, small apps available. Very intimate but relaxed space.

Great vibes and fun atmosphere in the Orange Room can't wait to go back. David is phenomenal as was our bartender. Great drinks. I'll be back

This place is a cult Detroit cafe with amazing coffee and live DJs playing old school techno. Highly recommend to anyone visiting this beautiful city.

They have great coffee and drinks, to your surprise when the lights go out they have a speak easy underneath for the techno and house heads.
