It took me way too long to check this place out! It?s charming, delicious, and worth the price! Treated myself and coworkers to a dozen variety filled/unfilled donuts for about $19. This place is a must-try!
Back when I lived in Christiansburg, my family would get donuts from Route 8 every Saturday as a family tradition. The donuts were always top notch and I always looked forward to every holiday when there were themed donuts. We loved them so much that we even bought Route 8 Donut hoodies. We don?t live in Christiansburg anymore, and although we still have donuts every Saturday, I still think about Route 8 every time. I also continue to wear the hoodie frequently. I plan on coming back some Saturday and getti
Delicious! the reviews so I was a little skeptical. However they did not disappoint!! We got the cinnamon twist! One of the best I have ever head. Donut was nice and light, full of cinnamon flavor, and glaze was perfect and not too sweet. Key lime and lemon filled donuts were nice and light. Fillings were good but didn?t seem homemade but I could be wrong. Either way would definitely recommend.
We stopped by Route 8 today for the first time under new management. Unfortunately, I am not a fan of the texture. When I have doughnuts, I expect them to be pillowy and light. Unfortunately, my maple doughnut was more like a tough sweet roll with icing. It was indeed very dense, hard to bite off, and chewy. My husband said his Bavarian Cream was so thin, it was like eating a tortilla with cream inside. I only noticed the description about the texture of the "donuts," placed at waist height by the register,
I absolutely prefer these over Krispy Kreme. Their donuts make me go nuts
Very good doughnuts one of the only old school doughnut shops around. Key lime filled was delicious.
I have visited their shop several times since opening under new management, as well as when they came out to a local festival! All experiences with staff and service were great! And the donuts are always delicious! I'm hooked on their jelly filled donuts! Another great thing is, their donuts keep in proper storage for several days, so i can get a dozen to bring home but not have to overstuff myself or throw any out because they keep easily and still taste delicious! I will always buy from Rt.8 donuts when
If you haven't stopped by here yet, please do. The donuts are delicious, but more importantly, the staff is amazing. I really can't say enough. This is how people should run their businesses. One stop here made my whole day. ****UPDATE 6/14/21. Completely craving a chocolate covered Bavarian cream filled donut. Stopped by quite early. Unfortunately, they didn't have much of a selection. They did have a similar donut that had the cream on top in the middle. It looked messy and didn't make sense to me but
First visit since they reopened and Route 8 wins! Haven't had an apple fritter this good in decades - not living in Seattle, Minneapolis, or State College PA. Just m make sure to get there before they run out (though I went at 1:00 and they still had a decent selection).
Keepin' this simple- Rt. 8 Donuts: fresh, flour, sugar, and local Dunkin: stale, cake mix, and corporate Which do you think is better?
I very much want to like the new management of Christiansburg?s old beloved Route 8 donuts, but I just can?t. I?ve tried four times now, and each time there has been inconsistency in donut quality, size, overall flavor and texture, and experience. Route 8?s donuts are sadly extremely chewy and have a kind of ?stale greasy donut? quality to them even presumably fresh, which is confusing because my purchases there have been early morning stops. The inconsistency in size is also confusing. I once bought two ch
Outstanding donuts. The best anywhere. Extremely nice people and service
The BEST donuts! Because the dough is not overly sweet, it has that savory deep fried flavor to it! The sweetness comes from the glazes and toppings, which makes these very balanced in flavor and absolutely delicious. The dough also has a lovely very subtle chewiness to it (somehow without sacrificing the lightness and airiness!) that reminds me of the soft center of a loaf of sourdough bread. And my favorite part, any donut with a fruit/jam element tastes SO fresh! No flavor of artificial, heavily dyed s
Sadly, I'm not impressed. Nothing like Carol Lee's Donuts or even Duck Donuts. Was there a little before 10 and they were out of any specialty varieties, which I can understand as they're still trying to test the amount of business. But the dough is chewy. They look big until you bite into them. And the glaze... Way too much on all of them. It would be nice to taste the actual flavor and not a mouthful of glaze. I know. They're just starting out. With new businesses, there's always room for observation and
The new owners have made such a difference. This place is spotless inside and the apple fritters were divine. S must go for everyone who wants a donut sugar fix
Awesome donuts! Coffee is from local roaster, Mill Mountain, which is excellent. Ask for an unfilled donut and watch them fill it.
The new owners have been great. Solid selection of doughnuts and pastries. Super friendly and smiley service. Good prices. Only have had great experiences here!
What a wonderful accidental find! This donut shop is definitely somewhere you should put on your list. Even if you?re traveling through (like we were) it?s worth a stop. We ended up popping in 10 minutes before closing and so donut options were limited but the half dozen lasted two minutes in our car because the donuts are soooooo delicious. We tried the pumpkin, chocolate sprinkles, raspberry filled, and Boston cr?me, and cinnamon sugar. I could eat that pumpkin donut everyday with a hot coffee. The raspbe
First time visitor while visiting relatives. Stopped in and ordered a coffee and apple fritter. Fritter was fresh and warm. I don't think I've tasted one better. And this is one of my favorite treats. Wish this was place was close to home - I'd be a frequent customer.
Good donuts. Friendly little place. Never had a bad experience or a bad donut. They have some other large items that are good and help support other local business by selling the local cold brew as well!
Clean n nice people, except donuts were a little smaller than what I'm used to.
More of a pick up and go donut place. But the donuts are stellar! Their Facebook is the most accurate in terms of opening hours.
The absolute best donuts. If I lived close by, I would be eating donuts every day. They were fantastic. We tried so many different kinds and they were all excellent.
It is great to finally have another donut shop in the area! However they seemed a little small for the price (maybe I'm delusional), taste was pretty good but wasn't a fan of the texture. I would try them again though.
We love Route 8! Their donuts are delicious, creative, and expertly crafted.
New owners and staff are nice but the donuts leave a lot to be desired. I purchased them fresh, 6am. They were overcooked, tough, and greasy. Hard pass.
Route 8 has lost a customer. Came in before 11 & virtually nothing to choose from. If they had sold a lot, why not make more for the rest of your customers? Will be going to Krispy Kreme where they always have a good variety!
They're sweet & tasty like donuts should be, and the people are friendly. That saves it from getting only 1 star. They're also very consistent. All of the 8-10 I've had various times over the years have been the same quality. The website doesn't work on mobile devices (Galaxy 10). They serve cake donuts kind of like Duncan's. Even the ones that appear to be fluffy are not. All of them are dense and greasy. Yes, all donuts are fatty, but these leave a texture in your mouth like you just ate a spoonful of lar
Wonderful place, easy on and off I-81 and a great family running it!! The maple bacon are to die for! Give them a trt, you?ll throw rocks at KK!
Terrible. Tough rolls. Couldn't hardly chew and very expensive. 4 rolls $23.+
Absolutely delicious donuts! We got a few dozen just before a Virginia Tech game and finished them all! I highly recommend this place. The staff prepared our order very fast, and were friendly. If you're looking for a place with a lot of character and a great morning treat, this is your spot. The apple fritters and maple bacon donuts are simply irresistible! Enjoy!
These owners know what their doing! I stopped in, expecting a run down and old doughnut shop, but I was blown away with how nice this place is and how friendly the owners are!! To top it all off, their donuts are out of this world! The maple bacon has been my favorite so far. I can't wait to try them all. This is my favorite local spot in Christiansburg this far!
The best donuts I?ve ever tasted in my life! We live in Roanoke and make trips there early in the morning to get our favorites! Definitely worth the trip, affordable and just so tasty!! The workers that we have encountered are very nice and professional. I wish they would open in Roanoke and give all these other sub par places a run for their money! It?s ruined all other donuts places for me, you have to try it and you?ll be hooked!
We finally got to stop by today and are so happy we did! Route 8 knows their stuff. We purchased an assortment of cake and yeast donuts and they are all great. Also this location used to be an abandoned, rough looking spot and the Route 8 team have completely transformed it into a modern looking and very cozy setting. We are donut snobs and Route 8 more than meets our expectations! It's easy to tell that they use top quality ingredients. We are very happy with these donuts and will be repeat customers.
The best lemon donut & coffee along 81
Very prompt courteous service. There was a great selection of donuts as well as apple fritters. Several unique spins on the donut theme like adding cinnamon graham crackers. We ordered a Maple, M&M and an apple fritter. The maple was lighter on maple flavor than expected but was tasty despite that. The M&M was fun, and the apple fritter was about 12" diameter and had apple in nearly every bite.
Absolutely delicious.. So glad they're opened again. Christiansburg needed homemade donuts.. will be back again and again.
I wanted to love this donut shop, but everytime I've gotten donuts they've been very dry. Most of the time I've gone, even early morning, they've been sold out or only had a very limited selection. I stopped at 8:30 am on st. Patrick's day and they only had a few donuts left. I asked if they had any st. Patty's day donuts and the worker said they don't do specialty donuts. He also was not very friendly, but maybe he was busy and tired, so I won't hold that against them. I don't understand why they don't mak
Called ahead for a dozen specialty donuts and when I arrived, I received some of the best donuts I've ever tasted. They literally melted in my mouth. My kids enjoyed them as well. Great experience. Friendly staff. Will definitely recommend Rt. 8 Donuts ?? to anyone!!!
The donuts here are great! The problem I have is with the guy who runs the front. He?s quite rude and seems like he hates where he works. If you want a good donut these are good, but if you want a good donut and good service I would skip and go to Carol Lee.
Always great customer service. If you are looking for a particular type of donut, you either need to get there very early or call ahead and have them set them aside for you. We love the variety of donuts at they offer and enjoy sitting in there and occasionally getting to watch the make donuts.
Donuts were pretty good. Pulling up to the shop I wasn't totally sure there was going to be a donut shop around the corner but that's usually when you know they are going to be good donuts. Maybe I had a little too high of hopes but the donuts were still very tasty.
I LOVE these donuts. Parking was tight when I was there and it's friendly but the customer ahead of me took a LOT of time chatting and there's only one check out. She created a long line of customers with her lengthy conversation. This has kept me from returning because I don't always have a lot of extra time in the mornings. I've not returned because of this experience.... BTW, there was a man ahead of me and this rude woman actually walked in front of me as I stood back from the counter 6 feet. I was the
Delicious donuts! Tantalizing creations like rocky road, carrot cake, lemon filled and my favorite a simple cinnamon and sugar. If you need a well rounded breakfast you can get a breakfast sandwich across the street at the gas station. Both stops tasty and cheap.
Hot dang! I was excited that a new local donut shop opened in my old stomping grounds, but I was COMPLETELY unaware that they hired baker elves with access to magical-quality ingredients to produce confections on par with the muffins that ended the Great Unicorn Wars. They keep running out because people flock in droves to get these little wonders. I came in today around noon and got "the dregs" and tasted the best donuts I've ever had in the New River Valley.
The donuts almost tasteless with some flavor from the icing. Been here a few times and have been very underwhelmed each time. I'm not from this area but there's another donut shop in blacksburg I think called Carol Lee that's WAY better.
Great donuts if you get there early enough because they sell out fast. The have the donuts ready to fill with your choice of filling. The apple fritters are big and delicious. Not too cheap but well worth it! Anywhere from $12 up a dozen
I have never had a donut from Route 8 that I didn't thoroughly love. If grocery stores or Dunkin have shaped your donut expectations, you should really treat yourself to some donuts here so you can taste what a donut should taste like. They are my favorite donuts in the NRV. Great texture on the yeasted donuts. Flavorful and moist cake donuts (no small feat). Good creative flavors. I hate dessicated coconut in general, but the toasted coconut often used here gets a really good carmalized flavor and crunchy
You guys are the best. Fresh every morning and service with a big smile. It really shows that you love what you do. To those that fuss about them selling out by mid morning, I suggest you wake yourself up earlier for these delicious treats. Keep up the great work!
Oh. My. Goodness. These are so good. The variety is so so awesome. Never in a million years did I think I would try a fruit loop donut but who ever decided that was a thing did something right. They're good donuts, polite staff, and everything smells amazing.
Good donuts, very friendly staff, and you can buy local coffee to take with you and/or make at home. Gourmet donuts with extra decorations and toppings also available. Their "glaze" never gets crispy like I'm accustomed to from up north.
The donuts are delicious! Very unique flavors. The staff is always friendly. I stopped by late on a Saturday and the owner made me my favorite donut.
We requested custard filled doughnuts, but they only had 2 left. So they took the regular chocolate iced doughnuts and filled them with custard for us. I felt that was above and beyond what any other doughnut shop has ever done! Will definitely go back
We love Route 8! We've been there on our happy mornings and our mornings that needed an extra bump to be happy. They are the nicest people with the most delicious donuts. Go there, you will not be dissapointed!
Very clean store and friendly helpful staff. However, doughnuts are extremely small, almost miniature in size and of average taste. Bavarian cream filled doughnuts had very little chocolate on top and only an average amount of filling. Regular store bought brand doughnuts are a much better value and quality of taste. Selection was also very limited as they had no cream filled doughnuts by 10 AM. I am not sure why so many folks rate these doughnuts to high as they truly are average at best.
These donuts are great! Super fresh and very customizable. Also, make sure you?re paying attention when you drive here, otherwise you might miss it.
Don't let the outside appearance of Route 8 Donuts deter you away, it's what on the inside that counts. Heavenly delicious Donuts, unfortunately when I got there they were all out of applefritters guess I'll need to show up earlier next time I go... I got 1.5 dozen donuts I asked the girl to give me a dozen mixed varieties of stuffed Donuts minus lemon filled I can't eat lemon stuffed donuts they hurt my stomach. I also got half dozen mixed other donuts... I've had 2 so far and I'm loving them, the blueberr
Great place to grab some donuts and coffe. Convenient location next to I-81 on Route 8 at the edge of town. The only negative thing is the donuts sell out usually by noon. So the early birds get the treats. Friendly staff and free smells!
Great donuts, light & airy, unique variety not too sweet. Local family run business. Very personable. Hear they run out daily, can understand why. Added to our must stop by when we're in the area. Right off I81.
The owner is really nice, and these are the best donuts in the area. The sour cream donut is worth a trip all by itself, and the apple fritters are great too. It's always very clean.
There are many different toppings and flavors of donuts. And their doughnuts are not only delicious but also beautiful and make great gifts!
was there on saturday july 20th. took home a dozen they were rubbery . like chewy. first time there i will try one more time.
Better than Carol Lee's. I'm Canadian and these donuts are delicious. Unlike most donuts in this area they are not greasy and come in a wide assortment of flavors.
Very friendly service! Donuts were out of this world....light and fluffy, the chocolate BlackBerry filled was my favorite. Probably the best donut place I've ever been to.
Delicious donuts! We always make sure to get there before 10am. They sell out fast. Very friendly staff. I definitely recommend these donuts.
Best doughnuts in a 30 mile radius !! Great folks staff this place !!
Like doughnuts? THESE ARE AMAZING! This place is ran by a husband/wife team that really puts a lot of passion into their business. Make sure to stop off Exit 114 off I-81 and check out this great little business.
This is a must-visit destination every time I find myself in the Christiansburg area. Best donuts I can remember anywhere (especially the sour cream) but you must get there early for best selection. They are only open until they sell out.
Nothing is more heavenly in the morning than fresh donuts and good coffee. The Red Velvet donuts and locally 12 hour brewed ice coffee hits the spot early in the morning.
Amazingly friendly service. Some of the best fresh made donuts. Better get there early. They sell out everyday. Never a day old.
Great donuts ?? Clean and fresh. A friendly atmosphere ??
Incredible flavor, well made, and fantastic place to go. We try every trip to make it by just for these donuts!! Our favorite is the french toast!!
They have really good donuts, but they are always sold out in one day and closed for a couple days. It would be nice if they just make sure they always have donuts made
Locally owned and operated. If you are any where near this place stop in the people in there are great!!! The doughnuts are delicious both cake and traditional are phenomenal. Keep up the great work!!!
Best donut shop I've been to, hands down. Get up early before they run out, because once they're sold out they're done for the day! It usually closes before 11.
They have the best donuts in the area! The people are always friendly and the donuts are delicious. The coffee is also really good!
Nice people, they have glazed always but most of the time they have really off ghe wall combinations in donuts. some good some not so much. worth a look!
Route 8 has the best donuts around. The staff is helpful and friendly, and it has a great atmosphere! I love the peanut butter and jelly! YUM!!
Oh my this was my first time visiting Rt 8 Donuts. They are out of this world good. I advise everyone stop in. The maple topped are my favorite.
The owner is so down to earth and friendly. After they found out that several of the regulars are veterans, they added a military discount button on the register. Show your military ID or veteran ID and get 10% off
Best donuts ever! The maple bacon was amazing!
The staff is very professional. They serve up some Awesome Donuts. It's always a pleasure to visit them!!
Absolutely delicious every donut is good like everyone else wish they were open longer they sell out fast so get their early
Every other donut I've ever purchased from a shop was wrapped in wax paper. Mine was just dropped in a paper bag. Is that sanitary? Coffee was gas station quality.Prices are to high. They also run out by 9 or 10.
Wow is what I'd would say !!! So good and not cheap with the fillings either!! So fresh!! I can't remember when I had such a amazing tasting donut!!
Went for Apple fitters, they weren't quite ready yet and I had an appointment so they let me pay for them and pick up later! Best donuts ever!
Good doughnuts, excellent coffee, friendly service. I get much better attendance to my morning meetings if they know a box of Route 8 will be part of my agenda.
Awesome donuts just need to make a little bit more lol. They are awesome and the owners are very friendly.
