Retro Donuts

Retro Donuts

Reviews Summary

Retro Donuts is widely praised for its high-quality, fresh donuts with a focus on traditional flavors done well. Many highlight the friendly, helpful staff and exceptional customer service, including special accommodations for children and events. The maple bacon donut, huckleberry options, and fritters are frequently mentioned as favorites. However, some criticize the high prices and occasional inconsistencies in quality, with a few reviews noting dry or overly dense donuts. While most consider it a standout local gem, a minority find the donuts average compared to other shops. The shop’s drive-thru and nut-free options are additional positives.

Customer Reviews

This doughnut bakery retro-actively delicious! Their creativity and willingness to explore bold flavors is fantastic. Their staff are always cheerful and fun to talk with. Conviniently located off of the highway, this is a great staple for locals and those coming through the area.

It's totally amazing!! Both food and service definitely will be back!!

They were out of almost every donut by 11:30. It was $16 for 5 small donuts. Drove 20 min to try it out. You live and you learn.

So here's the thing about Retro Doughnuts. I had one a while back. I went to get one out of a box a friend had brought to work. I grabbed a maple bar. It appeared someone had rubbed a jelly filled doughnut up next to it. The nerve of some jelly filled thing anywhere near my maple bar!!! But I fingered I could eat around it. My first bite changed my whole perception of doughnuts. The maple bar was actually filled with raspberry filling. I almost spit it out only cause I was not expecting anything this crazy

Pretty good spot, we go often. This last time they didn't ask if for here or go and we always stay and eat there with our coffee so little inconvenience but love the donuts.

We took.our granddaughter here for an end of school year treat.

I kept meaning to try this place. Finally ordered this morning through an app. They were out of one of the bars I selected to try so they gave me free extras as an apology. I haven't managed to try all the flavors they sent yet, but these donuts are big. Their fritters are huge and delicious. Also this glazed original is no BS the best original glazed donut I ever ate. Blown away by the donuts AND the customer service. What a great shop!

Jon was incredibly nice and helpful! We wanted a donut wall for our reception and were unsure of how many donuts to get or what kind. Jon helped us through every step and took care of us very well. The donuts also tastes amazing and were a huge hit! If you want donuts for an event, I highly recommend reaching out to Retro Donuts!

I got a four donut mix of huckleberry. The huckleberry dream was my favorite delish huckleberries in a glazed donut. But my experience went down from there. The fritter had 8 berries on top, non in dough. The old fashion was dry and had 3 huckleberry on top, barely any glaze. And last the huckleberry hand pie was inedible 100% raw in the middle. The service from the 2 gals behind the counter was good.

Overpriced Doughnuts. I ordered a cream filled Doughnut that once eaten did not have any filling. I also tried their lemon fritters but those were slightly burnt and lacking in lemon. Their Doughnut Dough is the only good thing I can say about them. All their Doughnut prices seem steep for the lack of quality. The best thing I tried here was the Gigi a Doughnut with egg, gravy, and Canadian bacon. The Gigi is their best product and is fairly priced. One star added for the Gigi.

Retro Donuts is pretty close to home for us which is the only reason we ever go. They have a great specialty option, the Gigi - that is, if you can ever get one. We've been many times and they were out almost every time. Today's trip was around 8 AM on a Sunday for reference, so not a situation of being sold out at noon on a Thursday. We asked if they had it this morning and with a scowl were told no. I don't know what my family did to offend these ladies working today, but everything we said or asked was

Highly meh. Was looking forward to trying and I was very disappointed. Got a mint and tasted like chocolate. Well over $3 for one. Probably won't return. The cake was nice, it had a fresh and crispy mouth feel. Also the cashier put on a glove to retrieve, which I appreciate. Very easy parking. The lingering coating of whatever they use is very unpleasant .

They have really good donuts! My husband had the maple sausage & egg breakfast donut. He added cheese to it. He loved it!! The staff is great & really friendly! My brother told us to try the GiGi.. and we were hesitant but tried it and loved it. We should always listen to the old adage "dont knock it 'til you try it"!

Hello, I ordered from Uber and the app crashed preventing me from posting a rating yall did amazingly, with a complimentary donut and exceptional speed I really appreciate the service since I cant rate it on the app or find the name of the delivery driver anymore I hope yall see this and know you did a great job!!

I stopped in for the first time about a week ago. I got a Bavarian cream ono and a cold brew coffee. I have had a lot of donuts over the years but that was bar none the best, I?m still thinking about it a week later and the coffee is delicious! So, I highly recommend passing the chain coffee place that shares a parking lot with Retro and taking the extra time to go in and treat yourself. The staff is friendly and everything is obviously freshly made with great care. Totally worth your time. I will definitel

My wife and I were second in line for their grand opening a few years back and been coming weekly ever since. If you are looking for the best doughnuts in Spokane, or anywhere for that matter, you absolutely need to go to Retro Doughnuts! Better get there if you love great doughnuts. They have delicious coffee, and did I mention, specialty doughnuts as well. You won't be disappointed. Well unless you get here too late and they are all out of stock because people line up for this place. Definitely go here.

I got these delivered via DoorDash, and they included extra donuts for no charge. ?? Taste is amazing! Thank you Retro!

Retro donuts is a great choice. Everything is fresh and delicious. I have a kid who is allergic to tree nuts so getting to pick anything in the store (because the store is tree nut free) was a huge surprise for him!

I went through the drive thru at about 5:30 today, the lady in the drive thru was so nice and patient, donuts tasted amazing too. $15-20 for a half dozen though, so a little on the pricier side

Great donuts, especially huckleberry ones! Iced coffee is made to order and they use coffee to make their I've cube, so no watery coffee!

I was born here in Spokane, My dad was a Police officer for over 30 years! We both had a passion for Donuts! Ha, keep your comments! We opened up alot of donut shops! The Donut Parade was fantastic when I was at Gonzaga in the early 70's .Thier O.K still but when the owner died! To greasy now on the bars! Jon opened up Retro in 2016 and incorporates a fantastic crew of workers! He is the Donut King!!! His different flavors are just a few of his cooking methods! LOL Rob

Got there a little late 12:30pm. Probably better in the morning. Old fashioned glazed chocolate doughnut had good flavor. Just tasted like a stale doughnut buy the end of the day. Will not count them out until I try them fresh.

Doughnuts were excellent! No weird atmosphere like VOODOO doughnuts. Don't expect to find any "body part" shaped doughnuts here. Just quality service and treats! And they have a awesome drip coffee!

Always the best donuts but the lady that helped me today was very rude maybe she was having a bad day or something.

The blackberry donut was amazing! havnt had a donut this good in a loooong time. Love the donut to-go bags also. very Simpsons-ish. will def order from here again.

Hands down the best donut shop in town! The vanilla ring with sprinkles is my go to, but the cinnamon roll fritter is yummy, too! We have enjoyed taking our children to Retro for a special weekend treat.

What a cute treasure for the north side of Spokane. retro donuts is clean and calm! I was served by the owner and was treated respectfully. My kids ordered for themselves and he was very patient. My kids loved the seats and donuts. Coffee is brewed by the cup as well, so it's super fresh. Definitely going to be coming back!

I got their chocolate donut and the chocolate topping of it, had an off taste with it.

The owner met with my fiance and I to discuss catering desserts for our wedding. He was incredibly friendly and provided all the details we would need. We got to taste various donuts. They were all delicious! So we chose them all! Can't wait to serve them to our guests on wedding day.

It was national donut day, and it was ridiculously busy. Normally I wouldn't give a place that was low on supplies 5 stars, but what they had was great customer service and delicious donuts.

WOW! All I can say is donuts are fantastic, the folks behind the counter are pleasant and professional, and they give you a free donut or two. Now let me say this! A lot of places could learn a lot from Retro Donuts--I hope these guys keep up the same value-add the long they are in business. You know a lot of places start out fantastic, great customer service, a free sample or two, a great product or service--then somewhere along the way, after they have been in business a while they just start slipping. Th

Ordered 2 bagels with schmear to go. Got to the parking lot and the bagels were ice cold and super doughy. Donuts are good but skip the bagels

$38 for a dozen donuts. And they weren't frosted in gold either. How do these people stay in business?

Wonderful staff. Great selection. Delicious donuts!!

Really good donuts and friendly service.

Very friendly, delicious donuts, and huckleberry lemonade is delicious!

Donuts are always fresh and tasty! When I got there I barely got in the door they were so busy. When I made my selections and turned to leave, the line was out the door! Doubt some of them will get anything, the selection was already slim @11am when I got there.

Everyone there has been nice and helpful. The doughnuts are delicious. It's a tad expensive for us, so we only get them on occasion. Wasn't a fan of the breakfast sandwich.

Great customer service! Donut cake was delicious and perfectly done. Will definitely return and highly recommend

Wow! I was a Hit at my wife's job when I brought them a Bakers Dozen of The Famous Retro Donuts!! My wife also was well Pleased & Grateful!! We are from 4hrs away on a work trip this wknd in Spokane & Retros "set the standard"!! The team there was Amazing, Helpful & very kind!! The donuts were Amazing!! Thank you ladies for great service & A Bag/Box full of Blessings!!????

Great people, donuts and coffee!! The maple bar with coconut topping is the best donut ever!!

Best doughnuts in Spokane! When your only complaint is "I wish they weren't so popular," you know a place is great. A fantastic selection of unfailingly high-quality items. They never, ever disappoint. Super-friendly staff, too. A must-stop when I'm on the north end. Might I suggest a second location on, oh for the sake of argument, the south hill? :)

I enjoy stopping here to pick up donuts for my coworkers every couple of Fridays and the team is always amazed at the size and quality of the donuts. Upon each visit I find a fun, delicious donut selection accompanied by friendly faces. The Czechums are a great tasting hot breakfast option that I love to order. The pour over coffee is also a favorite of mine, it has a really balanced flavor. So far I've had only positive experiences.

The donuts were awesome! I tried the bacon maple bar donut (it was huge, it was as long as the box they put it in) I got an apple fritter and a chocolate covered m&m one. All of them were very large donuts and VERY tasty. For how big the donuts were I cannot complain about the price. The customer service was good as well, as I went through the drive through. Again, the Bacon maple bar was very good. I will be returning when I am near by this shop!

Based on the name you might realize that this is a slightly more traditional donut shop, but don't worry they are fantastic! They have a whole slew of different donuts to choose from that will appease virtually anyone. On this trip we went for both of the shark week special donuts, two Maple bars, one zebra stripe, 1 Boston cream, and 1 blueberry fritter. The shark week specials were pretty awesome. One was raspberry filled with a fin on top while the other was just in the shape of a shark (both have

My son loves doughnuts so I ordered a doughnut cake for his birthday. It was delicious and bigger than expected. Great price for such a fun cake.

Not your basic donut! Retro Donuts is a whole new level of AMAZING! The Pour-Over Coffee??? WOW! I have never thoroughly enjoyed a cup of coffee with a splash of cream & minimal sugar so much! Its velvety texture and bold, but not overbearing flavor, is INCREDIBLE!!! And the customer service?? Impeccable! Also, I must add ... John (owner) is the most delightful human being EVER!

Retro is hands down one of the best donut shops in Spokane. I love their Ono donuts, but the fritters are SO tasty too! I have yet to try a donut from here that I did like. John, the owner, and his staff are very personable and provide excellent service! The bigger black iced coffee with a splash of cream is another favorite!

Great customer service, always greeted with a smile. Fritters and sour cream old fashion are my favorite. Love the huckleberry fritters on Fridays in August. If you like iced coffee like I do the black ice iced coffee is a must. Worth going out of your way if you haven't been before.

Today my husband took our kids to Retro for a treat. One of my boys have autism and likes what he likes and only what he likes. They were out of the donuts he likes and normally gets there and started to melt down. The girl working the window told them to hold on and came back a few minutes later with 2 donuts for my son just the way he likes them. They specially iced the donuts to make sure he had something he enjoyed! No matter where we may move to in this town we will always come back to this shop no ma

They were very helpful to get me what I needed.

Great classic style donuts with the occasional modern twist! You won't find bacon or Skittles on donuts here, but they still have some interesting, more traditional selections, like blueberry fritters, triple chocolate old fashions, and donuts with savory fillings. The coffee is good as well. Hot coffee if brewed using a pour over to order, and iced coffees are served over coffee ice cubes, so no watered down coffee. I think you can get ice cream with the donuts after 11, but I haven't tried it yet.

$42 for a dozen donuts?????????? Are these people out of their minds??? I?ve never even spent close to that at other donut places and those other places were 10x better!!!! That costs as much as my wifi for a fricken month!!! I will never ever come here again with those prices!!!

NOT AS GOOD AS I WAS HOPING, SINCE SO MANY RECOMMENDED THIS PLACE. So far at 60 yrs old and a "Donut Conasuer" the best donuts ever still is from my home town, DUBLIN CA.... JOHNNY'S DONUTS!!!...check out their reviews. The difference is, although the size and thickness is the same... Retro's donuts were too DENCE and DRY....Johnny's is a bit softer (but not light) flacks when you pull it apart and tastier. The chocolate on the chocolate glaze was too sweet and tasted fake, not like chocolate. For $5.00

Best Donut Shop! When they opened 5 years ago I brought two of my sons there to get donuts. They weren?t quite ready to open for another week when we got there; however, as we went back to the car the owner brought them a dozen donuts out to try?? Customers for life!

Quickly become my favorite donut place!! Got donuts for Mother?s Day and they were so good I had to get more today for my Moms birthday! (And bonus they have a drive through - I have severe back problems so that really does make a difference to me!)

I have been to retro twice and have found their donuts to be fresh and very tasty (at least from the ones I've tried). Our church group has done "FUNdraising" through them and it was definitely a unique and beneficial way to contribute to summer camp funds. They allowed the kids to participate by folding boxes, holding signs, opening doors, etc. It seemed fitting for the age of kids and the business was very welcoming. In particular, even though the donuts ARE pricier than bigger store donuts, they are wort

Best maple bars .... they are big! Drip coffee I ordered was mediocre. I've only ever had maple bars, old fashioned sour cream and apple fritter...all very good. Their aim is to make the donuts of yesteryear that were simple and to the point. Love it.

Okay, I've got issues with this place, but the donuts are good and made fresh with fresh, quality, stuff. The maple bars smell like maple sugar..... Expensive donuts, but you shouldn't need more than one. My issue? I've got four kids. Need more than four napkins. Oh, well. Good donuts.

Absolutely delicious donuts and pour over coffee! The service was very friendly. Donoughts were neatly packed into a box. He gave me a free one which was the sourdough bar and I'd have to say it was my second favorite the first being their cinnamon roll fritter with cream cheese frosting??

Good Dounts but you better show up early like when they open. They are out of donuts 2 hours before closing. I have gone more than once and they are all ways out of donuts. So either they have a massive crowd that comes in all at the same time or they just don't make enough donuts. They extended their hours but don't make more donuts to cover that time.

First time observations: A Very clean store, staff was amazingly helpful and friendly, and most important, the Donuts looked delicious and definitely tasted the look. A little pricey but you get what you paid. Definitely will return

Best donut I?ve had in a VERY long time! They even gave my kids free milk and stickers which made them so happy!!

Hello, So I went to Retro donuts today and once again, disappointed. The places makes good donuts but they don't know how to make enough of them. Their hours are from 6-3. Today I was there at 1030 and they were out of donuts. I have been there twice before and they were closed before their slated hours. If this is how Retro donuts wants to run their business then fine. But don't say you are open for a certain amount of time and not honor that time. Good riddance, Retro! Disappointed.

Donuts were very good. Unique presentation called Arctic Circle- your choice of donut cut in half and filled with Tillamook ice cream. My son said it was fabulous! Service was excellent. I recommend this quaint locally owned business.

This is one of Spokane's great hidden donut shops. They have delicious food and the staff is awesome. My favorite pick here is to get a GG (unglazed donut filled with ham & cheese) along with a coffee. The coffee is made fresh in front of you, never again worry if it's been sitting in the coffee pot for hours! It takes an extra minute, but it's very well worth it.

We saw all the negative reviews and wanted to go check it out for ourselves.. the donuts were good! Way better than your average donuts from the grocery store. They were a little small for the price. Staff was friendly though - overall we were satisfied.

These donuts are great and the workers are always so good with the kids. They have some very delicious donuts. Also there hours of operation are much more flexible than other shops.

Not only were the donuts hard and stale in taste BUT the girl who took our order handled our donuts with bare hands. She not only touched multiple donuts but was handling cash money, playing with her hair as well as doing the register.VERY DIRTY PRACTICE WITH OR WITHOUT A PANDEMIC!!!!! .I was hesitant to pay for our order but did so anyway ?live and learn.I called that girl out on the way she had handled the food and she DENIED it! UNBELIEVABLE!!!! Overpriced and NOT GOOD.

Very tasty donuts with the ?? flavor my personal favorite! John (the owner) was at the counter and was warm and friendly. Had a vast array of donuts that I wish I could try them all. Definitely worth return visit(s)!

Good donuts and nice staff. However, I've had much better donuts. I'm sorry, but I have to be honest in these reviews. The donuts are not bad. Not at all - and it works when you really need a donut and you don't want to drive far. However, there are much better donuts out there and that's a fact. Even Krispy Kreme and Dunkin are better than this. My personal favorite is Donuts To Go just south of here on Division. Those donuts are a step above. These ones aren't bad - but average.

Went on Saturday, January 8, 2022. Maple bacon donut is pretty good. Blueberry fritter, ok. Gigi's "donut"... disgusting! It is a blended mixture of gravy and stuff pumped into a luke-warmed donut. Looks and tastes like regurgitated barf. Pictures read $3 but at store its $4. Don't rush to get that one. Take it off your menu, it's NOT a winner.

Ooh-wee! I don't think I've ever had better donuts! And I really love donuts. I'd wager they offer better donuts than the old Donut parade, HelloSugar, and I'd even argue they're better than Mike's! Those guys needs to try this place and learn some things : ) I highly recommend this place! Kinda makes me wish I didn't live so far away. Good stuff! The staff is super friendly too.

Their raised donuts are yummy, but they have seasonal donuts such as their Greenbluff's sliced apple filled donut. My son especially likes the raspberry and blueberry fritters made with real fruits.

Absolutely fantastic experience. One of the girls walked my 6 year old daughter through the whole frosting experience. It was slow, so they let her put her own sprinkles on. Made her a customer for life!

The best donuts/doughnuts ever. Their granulated sugar donuts are phenomenal ?? ?? Staff is super friendly and prices are very fair. The only thing that would make this place better is more locations, like the perry District or someplace south.

Terrific taste! I purchased two dozen donuts. Great selection, and price was as expected for a specialty donut shop. I particularly liked the egg nog and blueberry donuts. Frostings were great - not gritty or sickeningly sweet. If you are looking for something special, this place is for you. We will be back!

I have visited several times and have consistently felt that the service is lacking. Additionally, I find the prices for the donuts to be quite high.

Friendly staff, Drive Thru (huge plus), variety! The yeast donuts have been the best ones I?ve tried. I wish I could give them a higher rating, but after trying their donuts 3 times there is consistently an old oil/burnt taste with their old fashioned donuts. And today the Czechums were also dark/over done on the bottom. Disappointing for a baked good that is on the higher price side. (My experience has only been on weekdays around 9:30-10a via Drive Thru, so earlier or inside might be better)

Donuts were pretty good, but my husband bought a dozen to take in to work today and the apple fritter was burnt. It is disappointing when a new business puts out a poor quality product. Was it worth saving that batch of fritters but losing customers?

Great donut and coffee prices little bit high

Quality donuts from a place that does it right. Instead of relying on "gourmet" selections which are just additional sugary offerings (donuts stuffed or topped with cookies/other items) they offer quality. A traditional donut done right beats all others. Retro Donuts is, without a doubt, the hidden gem that every Spokanite needs to visit. I highly recommend the maple longjohn with bacon - a combination that is as delicious and American as apple pie.

OMG best doughnut ever fresh hot yummy doughnut I need this in my life on a weekly basis

The taste and quality of donuts don?t match the high price. Decided to get 2 dozen early Saturday morning for a work event and quickly discovered the donuts to be tough, dry and expensive. I unfortunately wouldn?t go to Retro-Donuts again.

We had this place when they first opened and they were pretty good! My husband went yesterday and they were awful we wouldve rather gotten donuts at yokes then spent triple the money here. The donuts tasted like they were fried with old oil and were flavorless. Very disappointing.

Great, super yummy donuts! Unfortunately have never been there early enough to try their specialty, the "Gigi" before they sell out of them, which happens fast! Always busy and always have to wait in a line that's typically all the way to the door, but the line moves fast and have never had to wait long.

We had Retro Donuts for our daughter?s morning wedding, and they were fabulous! Fresh and delicious, just the way donuts should be. Thank you Retro Donuts for supplying only the best for a very important day.

Excellent donuts, fresh, a great variety, and very personable employees!
