We have been wanting to try this cute little place on Kahili and finally had the opportunity today. Super friendly counter service, a nice selection of baked goods. We ordered breakfast sandwiches and they were fantastic. Eggs and meat on one side and potatoes and peppers on the other
I have to say is great food, great value! I?m definitely craving them again! Great idea for a shop. Everything is fresh and delish!
Very gifted baker here. I love their Butter Horn Danish, selection of donuts, and small pastry puffs. They have much more than a few breakfast items and the staff is super nice! Highly recommend them if you like old world style baked goods.
I got sandwich and a couple scones from here. It was super good. I had never tried a sandwich in a popover but it adds a unique twist to this place. Staff was super friendly and helpful.
What a lovely and unique restaurant. Super friendly, amazing food using popovers as the holder for your food selection. We had the breakfast popovers. Extremely good my only suggestion (for my taste)would be to have any mayo on the side. It was a little too overpowering however, the food was still delicious.
Amazing breakfast sandwich, one of the best I?ve had. The sauce and bread were so good. Coffee wasn?t bad either. We also tried some of the pastries which were tasty. Loved this little restaurant. Very friendly and helpful staff as well.
Popover is our favorite donut shop in Hilo. Get there early in the day, all the best flavors can get snatched up before mid morning. Some of our favorite flavors are ube, lilikoi coconut, maple bacon and mocha. Save room in your box for some cream puffs- the haupia-filled pastries are three thumbs up!
Wow! Gorgeous and delicious pastries here at Popover. I really wanted to try everything because it all looked soooooo good! My Lilikoi coconut donut was amazing and the mango puff was one of the best pastries I?ve ever had. I also had a lovely matcha latte. I really loved this place. Just be prepared to wait a little bit for drinks and sandwiches. My husband had a popover sandwich with eggs, bacon, and potatoes which was really scrumptious (the sauce on top was amazing) but we did wait about 15 minutes for
Cool place to have a sandwich or coffee. I would definitely come back and try the donuts!
I had some hope for this place. However, it was just alright. When we pulled up, we could not tell if they were open or not. The presentation was not very appealing and it something was just off. The coffee station was on the opposite end of the counter and it did not appear as if they were serving at that time. We ordered a veggie popover sando,.a traditional popover and a couple of pastries. The pastries were okay and the dressing was overpowering on the sandwich. I would skip
Mmmmm signature popover breakfast scramble with a fresh espresso and donuts. What more could you ask for? Baked with love for sure. Get there before 9am to avoid the rush. Really really love this place
Oh my gosh?. Everything here was sooo good! We came in for brunch all had sandwiches. I got the Malibu? it was impressively delicious and bigger than expected. The sandwiches are a bit messy, but worth it! I grabbed a couple cookies on my way out; snickerdoodle and peanut butter. Both cookies were enormous and some of the best cookies I?ve had in a long time! Prices were reasonable, service was fast and friendly. There are maybe 10 tables inside and a few outside, and plenty of parking. I will definitely be
Excellent little cafe. Breakfast sandwich was delicious. Very filling. Beautifully presented, served in a popover! Yum
Popover breakfast sandwich was huge! We didn't expect it to come with potatoes (my husband and I could have split one). The latte was very hot and tasted good (whole and oat milk are only options). I had a mini chocolate puff which was very yummy. We also had 1 s'mores donut which was good.
Wow! Glad my bride asked for coffee and donuts for our anniversary today! The Butter Beer Crunch and French Toast were my favorites. My lady said the coffee was as good or better than a "mermaid" brand she usually goes to! If you are looking for donuts I can attest Popover will not disappoint!
Looking for a non touristy spot for breakfast that isn't insanely priced pop on over. Can't find a good donut on the island,.pop on over. If you're need of coffee that will help you make the drive back to Kona....pop...on...over! Seriously great place and they had a nice cover outdoor area. The donuts go fast and I'd pass on the cookies of we came back.
What a lovely bakery! The popover sandwich was large enough for both my husband & I. We also tried machine, cinnamon roll, coffee cake, and puffs. All were divine! My favorite breakfast place on the island.
Breakfast sandwich popover with salad was fantastic! Coffee from paradise coffee company beans and a peanut butter and macadamia nut cookie to top it off.
Overall rating: 5 Food: 5, breakfast sandwich popover, lilikoi coconut donut, French toast donut, and 4 puffs: lilikoi, mango, guava, and coconut. Breakfast sandwich was different and interesting, and it tasted great! We really liked the lilikoi coconut donut. And you can't go wrong with the puffs! $1.50 each or 4 for $5. Each of them were delicious but we loved the lilikoi and guava ones the most, then coconut, then mango. Drink: n/a we didn't get any but they do serve coffee and tea Service: 5, very sweet
Fabulous food and coffee. We enjoyed the breakfast flatbread and breakfast popover. Both were delicious and we had plenty to eat-we are taking 1/2 of the flatbread home. Service was timely and friendly. The pastries that we devoured with our coffee were amazing
It?s nice to see that Popover is still going strong. They have a variety of pastries to accompany their signature popover bread and lilikoi butter. Their doughnuts are not my favorite but I know that a lot of people like them. Their popover bread on the other hand I think is really good, a little plain for some people, but I like it. Their puffs are pretty good too. Light flaky texture with creamy, mildly sweet filling makes this worth a try. All of them, including the turnovers, are worth a try but I parti
I LOVE THIS PLACE! Love their pastries especially the mango and guava puffs! Their donuts are good too, but I like the puff better. As for food, the turkey avocado sandwich is the only one that I?ve tried so far, so I got nothing else to compare it with. But it is still so gooood! One thing to note though?the sandwich bread do come in a weird shape so it is a bit hard to take a bit from. For drinks, do they make awesome iced mocha. It is perfect amount of sweetness for me! Overall I would definitely reco
My husband and I got breakfast here and loved the popover sandwiches! He got turkey avocado and I got the breakfast and they were both great! We were sad the pastry selection appeared pretty wiped out by 9 but if we were around longer we would totally come back for these sandwiches again. Coffee was solid as well!
Both of us LOVED our sandwiches!! Very big portions. Delicious Mac salad. The sweets looked great. A large assortment of baked treats. I'm sorry I forgot to take pics of our food. A+ Close to the airport.
Such a cute little pastry shop! Beautiful presentation! Flavor of donuts are delicious! Bacon maple and guava pastry were my favorite! So glad I found this place! It's a must try!
This place was pretty good. Their breakfast sandwich was so good! Their pastries were okay, I think the best one was lilikoi.
I stopped on my way to the hospital for a box of treats for my class. When I bit in to the liliko puff, it exploded everywhere! It was absolutely delicious!!!! I love lilikoi and most pastries are too sweet and not tart like lilkoi are. Popover has the most tasty lilikoi puff in town! I also recommend the haupia and guava! My daughter is in love with their ube scone!
Sandwiches were always so so. Now the raised prices from $10 to $15 made them not worth it. The "now with salad" is a very small scoop of mac salad.
Big emphasis on popovers with their popover sandwiches that are fresh & delicious, they also have flatbreads that are hearty and filling. Also great to just grab some baked goods like their strawberry lemon coffe cake!
Just came from there. Wanted a popover but the ones that were out for self-service were a little smashed, and I had no idea how long they had been breathed on or touched by other customers. After waiting despite there being no one else at the counter besides myself, I asked ?Would it be possible to get a popover that hasn?t been sitting out?? Mind you, I could see trays of popovers ready in the back. The staff member responded, ?but they were prepared at the same time.? That?s not the point. I did not ask f
Popovers are great, don't get to stop there enough. My fave is the ABC and the old espresso machine still pulls a delicious espresso.
Fantastic place for tea and coffee. Fresh bakery. I had the yummy cinnamon twist and hubby had the mini doughnuts. We enjoyed it thoroughly. Tea was delicious. Highly recommended.
It is sooo good that i dont want to leave it a five star so no one would know this spot. The breakfast sandwich is a must try, get the sausage and egg one- best fried potato you have ever had.
got a regular glazed donut and a matcha donut, and both were very fluffy and delicious! so glad I found out about this place on our journey through Hilo.
My husband and stumbled into the bakery on our trip and we absolutely loved it! The pastries were sooo good and the sandwich was amazing. We?re already planning on coming back in our time on the island.
Boyfie wanted some pastries, so we found this place. The people there were nice and answered our questions about their products. Would recommend for the service and atmosphere!
Very delicious breakfast sandwiches in popovers, and good coffee. Had to take a bunch of sweets with us as well ??
Popovers were excellent with lemon curd! Very friendly and competent staff. Would definitely recommend!
So good! We got a breakfast popover and donuts. Good prices too! The popovers are $7 and the donuts were $12.50 for 6. Definitely going back!
I ordered a donut, and a bear claw. Their donuts have a texture more like bread or a bagel than either a good cake donut, and are nowhere near light and airy enough to be a good yeast donut. It was?well, not good. And have you ever had a bear claw with raisins in it? Me neither. That was an unpleasant surprise- I love almond filling, which this bear claw was short on, and hate raisins in baked goods, which it was loaded with. Ugh. Worse bear claw ever. I?ve had a ?chunky chip? cookie from them, too. Th
AMAZING! These are by far some of the best pastries I have ever consumed! If you?re in Hilo, this is definitely a place to get pastries!
We like to try ?something different? and ?local? any time we travel and this stop fit the bill nicely. Check out the popover sandwiches, Ube donuts, and Lilikoi mochi!
What a great find on one of our staycays in Hilo! Popovers are a family favorite during the holidays so finding this gem of a place was a score for us. Super friendly staff, we ordered a breakfast popover that filled with eggs, Portuguese sausage, potatoes and veggies that was so flavorful and so good! Added half a dozen amazing donuts (maple bacon my fav) and lastly good Americano coffee. Truly stoked we found you & we'll be back for sure. Keep up the ono works Popover. ??????
We had a mini quiche, the ABC popover sandwich, the Hawaiian coffee pourover, and a cortado. Everything was amazing!! I just wish I had more days in Hilo to eat here again. The cortado was one of the best I have had. And popover sandwich is must try! Cute locally-owned place.
More of a bakery than a coffee shop. The ABC popover is fabulous! Love the greens and tomatoes.
Excellent pastries and sandwiches. We ate here every morning we were on the island. The ABC sandwich and ham and swiss (pictured) is absolutely decious and the pastries and coffee really hits the spot. Highly recommend.
So delicious! I had the 3 for $5 pastry with a coconut, mango, and papaya puff. WOW. Every bite was delicious, perfect amount of filling, beautiful puff with so many layers. I?m going to think about these pastries for a long time.
We got some donuts, puffs and breakfast sandwiches. All were so good and delicious ?? we may have to stop again before we leave town !!
I went a few days ago and I got a snickerdoodle, chocolate puffs and a Danish. The cookie had a bad flour aftertaste, the Danish was very artificial tasting and the puffs were good
I never really rate any places but this is such a gem! I couldn?t left it unreviewed. Everything about Popover: The service, the people, the food!! Next level delicious. Thank you guys
Breakfast sandwiches were amazing! Filled us up until dinner.
I just went for a drip coffee and a donut. I placed my order. I had to wait about 20 minutes and watch 3 other people come after me and get taken care of.
Food and coffee is great! Service is slow especially if you're trying to go to work and they let the guy after you order 60 different pastries and carefully boxes them before making your coffee.... They one more employee is what I recommend. Aloha
Stopped in at the recommendation of a friend. Barbara and her team were absolutely lovely. They were so kind and made excellent recommendations. We had the roasted veggie popover sandwich, which was one of the best sandwiches we?ve had in a very long time. Their coffee and desserts were also incredibly delicious. Please stop in if you?re in Hilo; you won?t be disappointed!
I love everything about this place! The food is all homeade and is perfect. This is my favorite coffee Place in Hilo! Stop in get some popovers the coconut is the Best. 10/10 The donuts are better then any on the island. Alot of attention goes into these. The sandwiches are fresh, the bread is f'n fabulous!!
Mahalo for bringing these amazing "Popover" rolls to Hilo! I tried for the first time and found them extremely ono with the lilikoi butter. It looks huge, but it is kind of hollow inside. The outside is perfectly crisp with a moist, flakey inside that is rich and buttery. Mmmm...can't wait to try it stuffed with tuna salad. This comfy cafe has ample indoor and outdoor seating too!
These popovers are a healthier version of the ones my grandmother and aunt made when I was a kid but they are just as memorable and come with a little cup of guava butter! The puffs and doughnuts are the best in town! And a great coffee stop as well! Love this place!
I've loved this place since the moment I walked in. The owners are incredibly friendly. The sandwiches are incredible, truly. And this is one of the FEW PLACES IN HILO, as a person who works remotely, where you can 1. plug-in your laptop or devices, and 2. use the wifi, and 3. that doesn't blast loud music. This is extremely valuable and I think this place is a local gem. Much love to the ladies who run the place. See you again soon.
On your way to Popover Cafe and Bakery, you most likely will pass it the first time. It is an unassuming building, but the food is the most delectable experience your taste buds will ever enjoy.
Unique little place. The fruit puffs were delicious, and their popover sandwich was to die for!! The potatoes and sauce in the sandwich had AMAZING flavor! Coffee was also delicious. The 4 stars is because the apple Danish was like a day old. Good flavors, but super dry.
This place is great and I highly recommend it! Stopped in for breakfast for one of my work trips in Hilo. I had the breakfast sandwich and please be prepared! It was a large portion in a ?popover? bread puff thing. It was so delicious: a great mix of scrambled eggs, green onions, red bell peppers, cheese, bacon or Portuguese sausage and a very flavorful sauce. It was great having a sandwich with scrambled eggs for once, something the bread actually allows since it is more of a bread pocket as opposed to a t
The sandwiches and cookies were delicious, and they had very unique and very good bread. The coffee was not good. The place was not clean in general, especially the the restroom, which was not clean and did not have soap.
Wow a donut shop in Hilo!! Popover sandwiches are huge. Will be back again.
The breakfast sandwich is their own version with a popover cut in half with sauce and scrambled eggs on one side and potatoes and veggies on the other. This a huge sandwich and very filling. The masaladas were delicious! Other donuts and pastries looked good too.
Wow! My parents and I stopped here looking for a local sandwich shop in Hilo... and we were SO glad that we stopped in. We had the best turkey avocado sandwich we've ever had with fresh veggies and a side of delicious potato macaroni salad on the perfect bread! So much so we took 6 breads to go! We also took a variety of pastries and cute little donuts to go and everything has been wonderful. Definitely recommend stopping in for a sandwhich and taking a few pastries to go. Gracias for a hidden surprise
Donuts are cute & good, but be prepared to wait for your coffee. The coffee station is on the other side room. I ordered my bakery items and a drink. The waiter helped 7 other customers with their bakery items before walking to the other side of the room to make my drink. She called my order number for my drink and just walked away. Didn?t apologize for the long wait or say anything. There is only one worker to work both stations. This has happened multiple times. Bakery items are ono, but I won?t be orderi
Love that I could just " pop over." Bentos were great. I'm not a fan of scrambled eggs, but these were flavored very well.?? Great pastry options, but I wish they had more.... Looked like they only displayed six of each flavor at a time, but Sunday seemed a bit busy. If we had more time, we would've waited, but time was of the essence and we grabbed what was available. Many people were patiently waiting for their orders and even had phone orders. We loved the energy of the customers. ?? Wish the staff had a
Yummy yummy yummy. The popovers are tasty especially with the lemon curd side. All of the donuts and scones we tried were good with the ube scone being the standout. Our to go order didn't make it out the door :)
The BEST popovers I've ever had! Get them plain, or made into a sandwich - you won't be disappointed!! It's one of our favorite weekend spots to eat. They have the nicest staff...so sweet & helpful. And delicious food! Even though they have coffees, pastries, pizza, etc., you NEED to get a popover while there because you DON'T want to miss out!
It was love at first bite. We tried 4 different puffs and it was a hard decision, but the favorite was the Haupia, it had a beautiful coconut flavor and an absolute must try if you go here! I got a latte which was amazing and they made it look beautiful which somehow always makes it taste better :) We also got the turkey avocado sandwich, and the ABC sandwich which was a special that day. They were both PHENOMENAL!! To top it all off, the service was amazing and the lady helping us was one of the nicest pe
Delicious baked goods! Donuts, scones, cake, cookies and breakfast sandwiches! We tried a few different baked goods over a couple of visits and all were delicious and included local flavors! Also has a coffee bar! Reasonable prices!
The breakfast sandwich was pretty delicious and worth trying if you are in the area. The secret sauce seems to have a bit of a horseradish kick though so beware if you don't like that taste (my friend did not). Unfortunately, the service was a bit lacking here. My drink order was not correct and I noticed that seemed to be a theme as I was not the only one who got something other than they ordered. I didn't ask for my receipt, however, so I wasn't able to check that it was put in correctly when I ordered it
Awesome selection of pastry, we got at least one of everything! The coffee was spectacular..
If you like cold reheated breakfast this place you will love. I was excited to try the popover bread but it was cold. The potatoes, eggs, and sausage had to have been reheated multiple times. My coffee had straight hershey chocolate syrup in it. I couldn't even eat or drink the items I got, my husband was smart and didn't even order anything. I don't even recall ever going somewhere that it was legit not edible. Perhaps a bad day, perhaps not. While there another guest had come back in upset about her f
Super fresh, great taste. Decent prices. Waiting for them to make cream buns.
Staff are always so congenial, with a warm welcome. Love their roasted veggie popover sandwich - yummiest! Gotta have a maple bacon donut (crispy real bacon bits & maple glaze to die for). The snickerdoodle is Huge & delicious. Mochas & lattes round off a great breakfast or lunch.
If I could give zero I would! Bought 6 donuts for work and was extremely embarrassed!!! The most dry donut I have ever eaten! Even day old Safeway donuts are better or the prepackaged donuts! Shameful they put this out! I went before 8am when I start work and I cannot wrap my head around it! These were no way near fresh or even in the past week!
Affordable and tasty! My husband had a breakfast sandwich and he said he liked it. We got chocolate donuts for the kids that they devoured. I got a lilikoi (i think that's how it's spelled) donut, which was good, and guava puffs which I loved! They were amazing!
Had the best food here yesterday with amazing service! We had the bbq chicken flatbread and a tuna popover sandwich which were huge portions and tasted super fresh. Had to go back for more of the little puffs for dessert :) You guys are amazing.
I went at 5:40 in the morning(they open at 5:30) and we started looking at their selection and everything looked amazing until my boyfriend seen a roach on the red velvet scone and I didn?t think anything of it at first and then at a closer look the next tray over also had a roach on it? and then on the third tray right on top of the glazed donut a roach was crawling right on top and that?s when I let the lady working there know?. She seemed shocked grabbed the tray and walked to the back?. And we just walk
Best breakfast sandwich on the Island!! The ladies there are fabulous and the lilikoi donut and selection is out of this world delicious. ??
A great Fresh Bakery + Great customer service. I definitely will be stopping by off and on For another chocolate chip oatmeal cookie ??
Love this place. Their popovers are amazing and packed to the brim with fillings. Donuts are great too. Creative and flavorful
We fell in love with this place the moment we walked in. Definitely best breakfast in Hilo. The Haupia puffs are so delicious we spent awhile trying to figure out how to transport them home to let other people try them before deciding we couldn't resist and just ate them ourselves. The breakfast sandwiches are astonishingly large and absolutely worth the price--we especially like the texture of the bread and the sauce.
I absolutely love this place. Super good pastries and they remembered my name when I came back the 2nd time. Very sweet place
Loved the spot, super close to the Hilo airport, friendly service, yummy bread and generous filling. I?ll be back
I had high hopes for this place. I've heard great stories but unfortunately was let down. I'm here on vacation and have real felt the "Aloha Spirit" everywhere I've been so far. But the gal working the front counter really put a damper on things. Doughnuts looked cute, tasted stale & the turnovers were okay. As soon as I walked in I Greeted her with a smile and a "Goodmorning", the gal behind the counter responded with a curt smile and looked as though saying GoodMorning back was gonna kill her. I ordered a
I sneak in here for a donut from time to time. When birthday time rolled around for my girlfriend I asked if they made cakes. They do. Amazingly well. I ordered a lilikoi cheesecake. I honestly think it is the best cheesecake I?ve ever eaten. Not too sweet and quite light. The lilikoi was the perfect tartness. Next year I will be headed back to get her a cake there again. Super friendly staff and the price of the cake was extremely reasonable.
