My girlfriend had not been in this neighborhood in 30 years, and when she saw it still open and we had to stop. The place is small, and it was surprising to have to wait in line just to get in the door. It was not a long wait, but that says it all. Everything is delicious. The service is A1, and there is plenty of history.

1st time checking out this spot, and I must say it was quite a pleasant experience. Came here on a Saturday morning and there was a line with about 10 people. The inside looks nice and clean. The baked goods in the display look great! We got the infamous burnt almond cake and some other things. Will definitely come back to try other baked goods.

This bakery has brought so much joy to so many people for so many years. There should be a special category for beloved long-standing institutions like this! Bring a burnt almond cake to your next event to see those who know light up on sight... and hear those who don't ask, "Where's this from?" upon taking a bite.

I couldn't believe I fell in love with Peter's Bakery in San Jose. I came here in May to get my niece's wedding cakes and cookies. I ordered a couple of cupcakes on the side. The pastries were absolutely amazing. I would come back to get some more next time I am in the Bay Area.

Known for their burnt almond cake, I can confidently say no need to go anywhere else for it. They have absolutely perfected it, right amount of sweetness, cream is just right, it all hits. Traveled from Gilroy for their burnt almond cake which has always been the best! Also ordered a regular chocolate cake that wasn?t a hit at all. Extremely dry you couldn?t pick it up with a fork before it crumbled like sand. We ended up with more than half the cake left. BUT the burnt almond was gone in minutes.

What they say about their burnt almond baked goods is so true. Amazing pastries. Their custard ?clairs, lemon sqaures, and bear claws are also great. There is usually a line about 2 groups deep in the mornings but the staff are so efficient. I love their system of allowing only three groups in the store at once and one employee assigned to one group to keep track of the order right up till billing. They're also very reasonably priced.

I am glad I found this place, and happy to recommend. I walked in to buy a cake for my friend?s birthday, ended up picking the Lemon Crumble cake. The cake was really delicious, and we were all happy to eat a cake that is tasty and wasn?t covered with cream all over. It looked exquisite too. It only costed us ~30$. Will definitely order from here again to try out other flavors, I have my eyes on the burnt almond cake.

Highly recommend the Red Velvet cake (and of course the burnt almond cake). I came here right when they opened- first in line- requested a double layer red velvet with added wording for a celebration and it was definitely a hit! Would order again.

I used Peter's Bakery for our wedding and it was absolutely amazing. We went with three different flavors of burnt almond (pumpkin, vanilla, and swirl). We purchased column stands and created a "deconstructed 3 tier cake" ourselves. Peter's staff customized the cakes to capture our wedding requests perfectly. The cake was amazing in taste, appearance, and price. Can't recommend them enough.

Busy, long line! But fast service when you get in. Not to many verity of pastry, maybe 10 or less than 15 kind of pastry and cookies. But very delicious . We tried Eclairs, whipped cream apple turnover, choc choc and lemon crunch, which was one from each kind of available pastry. My favorite was Lemon Crunch. I think it is the only bakery in this neighborhood, and it is good.

Sooo there are bakeries that make pretty things that are simply visual but have nothing but colors and sugar going for them. THEN you have places like Peter?s where there is the aesthetic appeal that is backed up by quality you can taste. Simple but traditional good quality. The lemon meringue tart was everything I wanted and yes, it was legit meringue with the light crispy airiness that you?d expect. So glad a friend recommended this place!

I recently had their Strawberry cake and it was 1/5-almost not edible- sparsely strawberries in the cake. The ratio is not as good as their iconic burnt almond cake. Pretty great spot for some sweet and delicious breads and pastries. Came on a Monday afternoon and grabbed some chocolate cookies (that apparently have leftover donuts and dough in them?!), the tart cake. Amicable and quick response from staff.

The one and only place for the famous Burnt Almond Cake. You could get it as the classic white, Chocolate or Marble. But that's not all they have other baked goods here too and I don't really know what else is good here but they all look so delicious still. This is a legendary Portuguese bakery open since 1936! Best known for their Burnt Almond Cake... which is to die for! They also have numerous other fresh daily options including an amazing strawberry cream pastry. Get there early because once an item is gone, you gotta wait until tomorrow! And that is a bummer.

This will be my last visit to Peters. I wont wait over an hour for an order. Then when i gave my name i waited 25min for it to be decorated. Even then none of decoration choices I selected were adhered to. I thought i'd enjoy an eclair...but nope its not whip cream it fake pastry pride. The whole trip is about 3 hours. My friend bought a strawberry ring cake on Saturday and we opened the box and a young cockroch came running out of the cake. I have bought a lot of cakes there before but this was the first one with a cockroch. It was the most disgusting thing ever. We didn't eat the cake and I threw it out. I'm going to call them Tuesday morning to tell them what happened. No it did not come from our place.

I recently ordered a cake and a dozen cupcakes for a party and my guests were absolutely in love with the burnt almond. It was a hit! The person who helped me customize the cake was patient and did whatever she could to make sure my request was handled carefully. I can't wait to be back to order other desserts from here. So my husband and I decided to try Peter's bakery for ourselves to see what the hype was all about when it came to their burnt cakes. We ordered bothe the chocolate and marble burnt cake, each an individual slice (2 marble and 1 chocolate).We actually enjoyed both flavors. The cake was not overly sweet. Parking was not bad, the bakery has a limit of how many ppl are allowed inside at once, but this line goes pretty quickly.

The Burnt Almond Cake tasted pretty good! I may have to try it more times, but while I really liked it, I also felt like it kinda just tasted like a Twinkie. Like, that's not bad at all, since I like the taste of Twinkies, but I'm not quite sure if that's enough to really say it's that much better than one. There were plenty of other good pastries here, too, like the Strawberry Ring. I am open to visiting again.

Long time San Jos? favorite. It's worth the wait in line. Best known for their burnt almond pieces. Many items to choose from and all of them are great. Parking can be tricky but usually it works out after a few minutes. The strawberry ring is delicious. We get one every time we are in town.

Though I haven't had the privilege of tasting their Burnt Almond Cake, I tried their blueberry cupcake, fruit bar and chocolate/strawberry pastry. Even though I have a sweet tooth, all the items turned out to be too sweet for me. I won't be able to try this bakery out again, even though the prices were very reasonable. However, it seems that lot of people love it and flock the place for it's burnt almond cake.

I ordered a half sheet of their famous burnt almond cake for an engagement party and I was able to make the order 2 days in advance no problem. The staff was friendly and efficient when placing the ordering and when picking it up. The cake was delicious and many of the guests took note of where I got the cake! San Jose -the baked goods are super delicious! we always used to get our whipped cream birthday cakes :-) then when they started making the burnt almond cakes that made birthdays even better! This is a San Jose tradition! Especially the Burnt Almond Cake. The last two times I have been there I picked up 3-burnt almond cake, Sesame Dinner Rolls, a Pineapple Danish Ring, an Apricot Danish Ring, and a variety of pastries. And they are all been a hit not a miss in all of them. I will continue to get things from them.
