Customer Reviews

So glad I finally tried Paul's Bakery about 15 years ago! Who doesn't love a fresh baked donut??!! These treats never disappoint. I appreciate that the donuts are never stale and always full of flavor. Two of my faves are the old fashioned and the coconut. My partner loves the chocolate frosted! I love Paul's French Silk Pie. Devine. We savor each slice. It's always a good day when we start at Paul's.

The best Maple Bacon Donut ?? ??. If you like this type of donut you have to try Paul?s Donuts. It?s important you go early because they sell out. Was going to post a picture of the full donut but I couldn?t help myself ??.

Place was clean and the counter staff attentive. 1st time here. Lots of choices and they can change while you're there based on what's coming out of the bakery. We don't have another full time bakery around and the 7 doughnuts/one blueberry pie was $35.25. Very expensive. The doughnuts and pie were very good. We will come back. *Note this review was completed without using ridiculous un-discriptive terms like out-of-bounds, OMG, on point, awesome, the bomb, yummy, delish, to die for, do your self a favor,

Tasty donuts, but I would rather have a bagel or a less sweet option. Glad it?s not like Krispy Kreme or dunkin. Good option otherwise.

Awesome customer service. Donuts ?? are delicious ??, best in the area. We will be back because we cant get enough!

We purchased a dozen donuts from Paul's bakery. The quick response is that the donuts didn't disappoint. Long response: In fact, these donuts are tied for first place with a donut shop from my hometown. Paul's Bakery smells incredible as you open the door to walk inside the store. To your right you will see cabinets full of cakes. To your far left you will see shelves lined with homemade pies. In front of you, more toward the center left you will be awestruck over the variety of donuts to choose from. The d

Paul?s Bakery has always been our go-to for delicious treats, but their incredible customer service truly sets them apart! I recently ordered donuts for my daughter?s birthday celebration at school on 2/25, only to realize last minute that I needed an ingredients list to have them approved by the school nurse. In a panic, I called Paul?s, and their amazing staff quickly came to the rescue. They were so kind and understanding, and within minutes, they emailed me the ingredients list, allowing me to get the d

I visited Paul's Bakery for the first time today, and I absolutely regret not having gone before! I ordered 4 dozen donuts and couldnt resist eating one in the car. Jelly filled glaze donut, and it was absolutely delicious, a freshly made donut!

Paul's bakery is celebrating their 50th anniversary on National Donut Day. Thought it was a perfect time to try them out. They have a huge following! The staff is friendly and efficient. Donuts are so fresh and it's a nice variety to choose from. People in line were talking about how good their pies are but I haven't tried them yet. Prices are reasonable and there is parking in the plaza the building is in. Add this location to your weekend donut outings!

We had a training at the PD for three days, PD had donuts for us. They said it was the best in town.

Fredericksburg staple for decades. Terrific Donuts great flavor and they were fresh we got an assorted box for a group of us and they went rather fast. I've been coming here for years but I just learned about this Bakery will definitely be going back

Paul's bakery has an amazing deal going on. I got 6 of Paul's delicious Glazed Holes for free if I ordered a cup of joe. I left that place wanting just one more taste of Paul's Glazed Holes (trademarked)

Stopped by this morning ~7 a.m. (8/20/2022). The bins under the counter were jam-packed with any and every possible donut you could imagine. The staff I worked with were super friendly, polite, attentive, and patient while I made my selections. The donuts are just simply the best in the area! Paul's is a must if you are looking for fresh donuts in the Fredericksburg/Spotsylvania area!

If you're one of those people that don't have to worry about calories, then I'd say go often and go early. Best selection is before 10 am. If you are counting calories, then this is the spot for your cheat day. I haven't tried everything yet but I plan to. Gotta have goals.

Great local bakery. Extremely popular. Such light and fluffy donuts, keeps me returning for more. Love the raspberry filled.

First time visiting and I can?t wait to come back! Awesome customer service and fantastic donuts! I mentioned it was my first time in the store and they gave me a free glazed donut...then explained about a previous bakery mishap with a birthday cake at a different bakery in town and the ladies were super sweet and gave me a free slice of cake to try at home.

Truly delicious doughnuts in many formats and flavors, and the staff is efficient, cheerful, and helpful. The cakes and pies are tasty, too. This is definitely a stay-on-your-feet place, though, sometimes with a line that takes 10 minutes to wait through. Wear comfy shoes and bring a happy, patient attitude.

Sweetest ladies in the world work they?re, always have a smile on their face and always treat me so good, i can tell they?re happy to be there and i?m always happy to see them they?re so amazing<3!!!!!

One of the best donuts and brownies I have had! We ordered online and chose to have them delivered. I wished the website allowed us to tip online, so that it would be safer for both the customers and delivery person. Today our delivery person waited for us to pick up our donuts from her, but we waited inside and told her that we'd prefer contactless delivery. This means that she would pick up the tip that we put in front of our door. It took her some time, but she eventually got it. Great customer service a

They have a to die for chocolate buttercream donut which I have to have every time I go there. The sour cream are perfectly glazed for a proper donut cake to glaze ratio. Maple bacon donuts are also delicious as pretty much anything is I have from here.

Fantastic pie. We travel all over the country trying bakeries everywhere. We have had many pies people claim are the best. Very few are. We bought an apple pie at Paul's today after driving 50 miles on a recommendation. It was fabulous. Excellent crust just the right texture and thickness. Firm and tart apple slices baked perfectly. Enough juices to coat everything but not make it soggy. A perfect apple pie. Thank you to Paul's. We will happily be eating this between the two of us for a couple days. Get all

The BEST donuts in the Fredericksburg area, hands down. And always wonderful service.

Finally got to try Paul's after hearing nothing but good things about them for months. We ordered a chocolate and vanilla cake for Christmas. The staff was very friendly and the cake was beautifully decorated and was so tasty! We are moving down the street in March and we are excited to make Paul's our go to bakery!

Absolutely the best pie ever. All flavors are superb but especially black cherry.

The donuts are so fluffy and good!!

Paul's Bakery has been providing 50 years of absolute deliciousness to the Fredericksburg area through their cakes, pies, doughnuts, and other assorted pastries. Love supporting local venues that have earned that support

Never been to a bakery busy like this with such a kind team, also the sweets are delicious!

I completely understand why this place is a local favorite. The donuts and cupcakes are fantastic and the staff are so friendly and polite.

Came to this bakery by recommendation of a friend. I?m so happy I found this bakery. The ladies were nice and the cake decorator even added a little glitter to dress up my daughters cake that I bought for her birthday.

Very food donuts and other pastries. Warm and friendly atmosphere and delicious donuts.

We're new to FXBG and I was looking for a place to get our daughter a birthday cake. I found Paul's on Google. Oh. My. WORD! Paul's not only made the most gorgeous cake, but it was truly the most delicious cake I've ever had! They're an old-school traditional bakery that will NOT disappoint whether you get donuts or one of their amazing, beautiful, and delicious cakes!

Literally the nicest people ever with DELICIOUS pastries. I will support them for as long as I live here!

Donut ?? Nirvana ????!!! Pies ?? and Cakes ?? looked ?? wonderful, also! Don't know if you can find a better Donut than this.......??

THE EMPEROR IS NAKED. Something has changed with the doughnuts, and it's not great. Paul's used to have the best doughnuts, hands down, with just the right glutinous pinch to every bite. Now, they taste like any "fresh" supermarket doughnut. Not terrible, but just a doughnut. Whaaa Haaaapen?

Don?t order by phone or else you will get charge more. I order 8 round cake and I pay $30 total instead of $20 online. She says extra $10 for color.. The chocolate cake is actually yummy?? I won?t mind paying extra.

Nicest little bakery this side of the river! Great prices, AMAZING service, and delicious treats! I had such a pleasant experience with one of the ladies running the store while I was stressed about finals. She made me feel welcomed, and the donuts made me feel happier!

Fantastic old school real bakery!!! We are fortunate to have them in Fredericksburg!!!

Ordered for Birthday, cake is very dry n wasted money

I?ve bought donuts, cookies, brownies and cupcakes here. They also sell cakes. Everything is delicious. The staff is friendly and patient. Get there early for the best selection of donuts. After noon there will be mostly glazed and the ones that aren?t filled. Still good, but not the selection you?d find in the early morning.

Paul?s Bakery has THE BEST strawberry rhubarb pie I?ve ever had. Legit, it is phenomenal. It is sweet with a little tangy. The crust is perfect. Don?t waste your money at battlefield store or wegmans? go to Paul?s. And it?s a plus, because I?m also supporting a small business. Thank you Paul?s for outstanding service and superb pie!

First time going and it was about 30 min before closing. Even then the place was filling up with last minute shoppers. I just wanted to try a few things to see if I wanted to go back, so I got an order of Glazed donut holes, blueberry cake, and a frosted brownie with walnuts. The donuts were really good. Blueberry wasn't too sweet and was fluffier than I expected, and I enjoyed it. The brownie was. A bit rich. But they cut them small so it's just the right portion. I'll def go back and try to get there earl

We've been regularly going to Paul's for over 30 years. The staff who are now at the counter aren't as friendly since they reopened. Walked in the other day and they carried on their conversation and finally asked me what my child wanted. Also, why has the chocolate icing been less? Also, donut prices seem to be high. Paul's Bakery, you can do much better! Wanted to update my review. I'm very disappointed that I went in today and they charge $2 for an extra box to split a dozen donuts. I explained that I w

I ordered a King Cake for a pre-Mardi Gras party. It was delicious! So fresh and moist and tasty. AND beautifully decorated. The staff at Paul's bakery was super - called me to let me know it was ready for pickup and had it waiting for me when I arrived. You can order King Cakes on line from Louisiana, but this one was so fresh and delicious, I can't imagine ordering from any other place. AND they have the best donuts! Just like the nice, fresh, donuts from my childhood. Brought back memories! I only bought

This place is amazing! They truly are the best donuts in the world. Their cake and cupcakes are awesome too. My wife and I even used one of their 8" round cakes for our bride and grooms cake at our wedding last month. An amazing wedding cake without the wedding cake price. We also had a dessert bar for our guests stacked with over 150 cupcakes from Paul's. Everyone loved them. I stop in whenever I can. The coconut donut is my personal favorite.

We LOVE the Fruit Pies! We get our Birthday Cupcakes here! Can't resist the Brownies! Coffee is Great here! And the People treat us like Family! Lovely Business! Now I have to add a NEW FAVORITE Doughnut Bread! Soft and Delicious Especially with Peanut Butter and Preserves! Yummy

You know... really respect and enjoy their products but can we get an order right!?!?! 2nd time I've ordered a cheese turnover only to get home and take a bite and it's apple! Let me add, when you have to take a 2nd trip because the online ordered was missing part of what was ordered, it misses the point of online ordering. You require at least a 24 hrs advance for online ordering, one expects to have that order done correctly.

I love this place for what they are known for: their amazing CAKE DONUTS! BUT I just found out this morning that the new management does not want to continue making them. PLEASE don't stop producing them, they are literally the best donuts you make (besides the apple filled, one of my personal favorites) and they are the ones I get the most request for when I buy dozens for work or for gym events. On another note, I've also had a pie and cake from there and they were delectable as well!

Wife says thank you for getting those 2 dozen half and half cupcakes ready for daughters classmates. We are grateful. You guys rock and are efficient. Thanks again. We will definitely be coming back (this time we will pre-order in time)

Pauls has the most delicious donuts I have ever had the pleasure of eating! Their donut holes are perfectly soft little bites of heaven with a pop of jelly inside. The cake donuts are satisfying to the sweet tooth without being super sweet. Their chocolate icing is so delicious, I could swim in it. Their cakes are equally as delectable! Don't walk, run to Paul's for the best bakery around!

Locally well known since 1973. Donuts and cakes are highly sought after for delicious taste and generous size/fillings. A famous F'burg landmark really.

I normally refrain from eating sweets, but every once in a while I get a craving and give in. Today was my first visit to Paul's Bakery and it was close to 5 pm, so I expected that many choices would already be sold out (and they were.) The only cupcakes and cookies remaining were in 6 packs, so I skipped those. There were several whole cakes & pies left. When I mentioned that I had never been there before so I wasn't sure what I wanted, I was given a free glazed donut. I had a hard time selecting betw

They managed to get Krispy Kreme glazed donut flavor into a larger and chewy donut. Well done.

The lady at the front today (June 23 2023) was rude (not the older lady). I've been going there since I was a child and after blowing my knees out on deployment I moved to Indiana. I decided to extend my drive to NC from IN by 2 hours to stop and snag some doughnuts and say hi to Pete and the other workers. When I arrived she was actively complaining about another worker not putting doughnuts in the right spot, said Pete was too busy to just say hi and when he popped his head out and waved she gave him this

The ONLY place in town I prefer to buy my sweet treats! The customer Service is authentic and friendly. Paul?s bakery is a staple in the Fredericksburg community

Great donuts no doubt. Bad attitude from the young lady that works there every time she makes you feel uncomfortable and unwelcome she might be racist against minorities

I discovered Paul's about a month ago. Now, I can't stay away. Go early so you get the best selection. The doughnuts are awesome as well as apple fritters. Just go.... you won't be disappointed! Update: I tried the french apple pie yesterday. It was a great disappointment. The filling is commercial grade w/ a strong chemical taste. The frosting on top was lacking butter or vanilla. I've eaten 2 1/2 pieces and will probably toss the rest. Sorry. They've increased the apple fritters from $1.25 to $

The best donuts in town and we?re here at least 3x a week. Ignore the negative Nancy?s who talk smack on this place. Times change, prices go up, things are very expensive due to inflation, and everyone has to adjust. Always friendly service and donuts are yum. I don?t go anywhere else for donuts in this area.

This place has been my childhood favorite for doughnuts, but the last 2 times have been outright ridiculous..... period, never have I ever seen such a unfriendly staff, they are rude, especially at answering questions, but the last 2 times I went there, one Saturday at 12 noon and then today, Friday morning at 10a.m. and both times there were hardly any doughnuts left???? They are open until 2, not everyone gets up at 5:30a.m. and can get there. This is poor bad bad business period. The lady says we make th

Best donuts, hands down. I'm a local who has lived in this area my entire life. No donut shop close by compares. And I've traveled extensively and Paul's still ranks high, if not #1, compared to pastries in numerous other states. I read some other reviews and am perplexed. These donuts have no taste? You're upset with their political affiliation? Worried about peanut allergies? Calling an employee white trash? Wow. I can't figure out the 'no taste' comment. I think they are very favorable. As for who they

We were looking for a pie for our daughter-in-law so we stopped by Paul's. We picked up the peach and lemon meringue sitting in the display refrigerator. We and our family were amazed at the quality of the 2 pre-made pies. They tasted like they were ordered and custom made! This was well worth the trip!

Love Pauls !! They have both cake and regular donuts from glazed to filled. My son is hooked on the maple bacon donut, I love the chocolate. They use the same icing on the donuts as their cakes. Wish they did a chocolate glaze as well. It can get crazy busy some mornings but the staff is pretty quick. I wait til it's not so busy so I can pick an not feel rushed and the staff is a little more relaxed and not stressed. I've seen as many as 5 counter staff just to help customers quickly. GREAT place WON

I went in on a Saturday morning. The cases hardly had an selection of donuts. I asked why the cases so bare? Was told don't have time to make more. Then I asked what is the difference between the cinnamon fritter and a cinnamon bun, I was told by the girl " I have a gluten allergy so I don't eat donuts". But you're back there making them and don't taste the product your making?! Then I asked if someone has a peanut allergy is it safe to eat the donuts? the girl behind the counter gave me a blank look and sa

Coming from up north in new england where we have so many great mom and pop bakeries and donut shops, i have to say Paul's bakery makes the best donuts that ive tried out of anywhere in VA from fredericksburg to northern. I wish they made an old fashioned chocolate glazed but all the other donuts are on point.

Donuts are delicious. Such a cute bakery with such great goodies! Staff is very sweet and was great with my toddler picking out his donuts!

Wide variety of donut options. We tried 4 different ones. The Oreo donut was delicious! The staff was very friendly and helpful. They gave away a free glazed donut to every dad that came in for Father's day :)

We've had a pretty large growth of doughnut shops in our town the past few years (and I've tried 'em all!), but Paul's Bakery has remained my favorite! I feel like you can really taste the quality and homemade touch in their doughnuts.

This bakery has everything! It even has gluten free options. You can get cakes, cookies, donuts, brownies, etc. The apple fritters are the best in town! I just wish they would bring back the cherry-filled donut.

We ordered two trays of donuts for our wedding and it was a huge hit! Everyone raved about the donuts, which we served as a late night snack. Great donuts, as always!

Before Paul?s Bakery I thought I knew what donuts were. Alas I was sorely mistaken. The moment the maple bacon donut touched my lips I was reborn. Emerged from a dystopia of trash donuts into a world of pure donut joy. I was lost and now I am found. I was blind and now I see. I wish I could relive that moment again and again. I will never be satisfied with any other donut shop. Thank you Paul, thank you.

Bakery was wonderful as I was buying a pie for daughter's birthday. My choice was a tart cherry pie as well as donut holes for her morning breakfast. It was exactly what she wanted and each was fresh and delicious!

My mom and I used to go to Paul's bakery every morning to get donut holes on the way to preschool 31 years ago. I stopped by there on a recently visit back home with my 4 children. Their were two people in line ahead of me and three more came in afterward. The four workers behind the counter went through all of us very quickly and were very nice. We got the raisin cinnamon bun, 12 donut holes, oreo topped donut, blueberry cake donut, reg glaze, and one other one that was a the best one of all. It was one of

I have looked forward to my birthday cake from Paul?s EVERY year for the past 20 years but this year my brother called to order me my usual chocolate cake with white icing and he was told they don?t take cake orders anymore??! They told him he had to come in and pick one of their pre-made cakes from the case. Oh and they don?t make full chocolate cakes!!?? They only have yellow and half and half! He was told to get there early too because they might run out! I can?t believe this is the same Paul?s I?ve

Great, as always! My partner is from Williamsburg and I had to initiate him to Fredericksburg culture by getting him his first Paul's Bakery donut. He took one bite and said, "Oh wow! This is delicious!"

I was looking to grab a quick donut and coffee at a local bakery in Fredericksburg, VA before a two-hour drive home back to Norfolk. After a quick search on Yelp I came across Paul's Bakery, and after seeing their rave reviews and that they had a check in offer for a free donut, I knew this was going to be where I was stopping before my departure back to Hamtpon Roads. When I pulled up I could barely find a parking spot, and when I opened the door to enter, the line wrapped around the bakery. It was at this

Always amazing product and service. The Stawberry Rhubarb Pie is my favorite. The donuts are by far the best around. The cake is moist and delicious. As a matter of fact o try to schedule all my Drs appts on Monday's because Paul's is closed and I wont be tempted to go in. Today... I went in. ??????

I am very impressed with Paul's Bakery. I love a good pie but until Sunday, lemon meringue pie was not one of my favorite. Most lemon meringue pies that I have had in the past were so tart that I couldn't eat it. Paul's Bakery has added a new favorite to my list. I was treated to a slice of Paul's Bakery lemon meringue pie on Sunday. OH MY GOODNESS!!!! When I tell you it instantly makes you smile and not pucker, it's no joke. It is the best lemon meringue pie that I have tried from anywhere. The sli

Update: Ordered another Birthday Cake today. Not as lucky as last time. Employees Excuses: -"We have a new cake decorator" -"We don't use gel in bakeries" (referring to the ocean part of the cake looking flat. - They misspelled the name on the cake. I'm not happy about the ugly cake. Let's hope it tastes $40 good. The employees didn't seem to care that I wasn't thrilled about the cake. Previous experience: Very reasonably priced. Paul's Bakery is a MUST TRY and then a MUST HAVE from that point forward. I r

Hands down the best donut shop in the area! They?re always busy and will run out of most of their selection by 2pm. Get there early! This is a must try when in the area.

They also sell one pound bags of FRESHLY roasted, whole bean coffee. I have been coming to Paul's Bakery for almost 50 years. I grade them better than all other bakeries I have been to in the United States, and many I visited in Europe.

The most horrible customer experience I've had since COVID restrictions last March. First is the rude sign on the door that they only take cards. When I was looking to see what donuts I would want, I was told to "get back", then I was told to get behind the white line. I was expecting to be told to do the Hokey Pokey next. I had called the day before to place a cake order, because on-line didn't have options. The phone rang about 20 times, no one answered. This was late afternoon. I called Wegman's

Best bakery for miles. You really can't beat their donuts. It can be a bit of a wait unless you're going in very early or very late, so ordering ahead is recommended.

I have NEVER liked store bought pie...until today. Excellent Black Cherry. Looking forward to trying the rest. I only gave 4 stars because I wish they carried breads as well.

They only put six donuts in one box if you 1 Doz You have to buy one box. Two boxes for only 1 dz Donuts what a scam. There donuts have gotten so small three bite's it's gone. Paul's I'm giving y'all a big F for today 7/29/22 Never again ??????

Paul's is one of the best donut shops in Virginia & definitely in my top 5 donut places nationally. It is on our must haves anytime we drive through the Fredericksburg, VA area.

(This was written by my wife, but I reposted it here because she liked it so much!) I was told to "go get a donut" as a way to distract me from the fact that our appointment was running late, and so I walked over to Paul's Bakery... begrudgingly. And, to be completely honest, I went in with very low expectations and seeking coffee only. Because Paul's Bakery surely has coffee and it was almost lunch time, and donuts tend to be a disappointment, you know? If only I had known. I realize now that it was sill

Expect to stand in line. Expect most things gone by 4pm (except the Bacon-Maple Doughnut which may be gone by 11am.) Also expect the best doughnuts you may ever have. French Apple Pie, Apple Turnovers and Chocolate Eclairs also amazing. Worth getting there early, worth waiting in line, worth a detour off 95 anytime you're near.

I am extremely disappointed in Paul's Bakery after many years of frequently visiting I was dismissed after they made a huge mistake for a surprise birthday celebration. Three days before the cake was needed my wife and I traveled 45 minutes to the bakery to ensure the birthday cake we wanted was ordered correctly. Linda took our order and after ensuring the order was correct we paid for it and departed. I spent hundreds of dollars for a special party to include a special cake. Upon arriving to Paul's to p

I have loved Paul?s everything for a long time. I called to order a cake today and found out they don?t take orders anymore. You have to show up to pick whatever they have from the case. So disappointed. We have always ordered our celebration cakes from them. My kids were looking forward to a cake for a Easter.
