Mister Donut

I live approximately 1.5 miles from Mister Donut, so I have to use a lot of self control. I could easily add several inches to my waist if I ate here as often as I would like. My favorite donuts are their Chocolate Long John and Old Fashion. I love the flavor of their chocolate icing, it pairs well with the soft fluffy donut. The glaze on the Old Fashioned donut is super sweet. It reminds me of the icing on a bunt cake. Other favorites would be the donut holes. A bag full of a dozen holes is equally as go

This place is a time machine with terrific old school donuts. The classic honey dip is here! If you're old enough to remember Mister Donut or have been to one in Asia, you won't be disappointed. Definitely worth the visit.

The best since 1955! With over 5500 stores worldwide 1300 in Japan alone and only 1 store in all of the USA...Godfrey Illinois ?? It?s the LAST of its kind in America. It?s in the Atlas Obscura. I feel like that?s all that needs to be said? Everything about this place is classic/retro. Don?t expect to get a pistachio-bacon donut with a double espresso. But you CAN get a feeling of stepping back in time to when donut shops were gathering spaces where folks from town gather over a glazed donut and drip coffee. The donuts are unpretentious but tasty. The service is matter-of-fact but efficient.

I've been coming here my entire life, never once have I had a bad experience here. This place is very nostalgic for me, coming here for my last day of kindergarten. Considering that was about 15 years ago, and the quality hasn't changed is amazing. I'm so glad to be able to call this place a memory, and will continue to come here, often.

I have experienced donuts from all over the known donut chain type stores in different USA states & cities, at many other regular mom & pop bakeries and even some donuts from smallish/seclect bakeries..sold to only a selected list of 'clients' by these almost "private" bakeries that are not avail to the public. I feel the Godfrey, IL ...Mister Donut smiling customer service folks & the quality and taste are the ultimate & super supreme donuts that exist. People from miles around will gladly drive to Godfrey

I suspect Mister Donut has been pushing out delicious donuts for quite some time. I suspect Mister Donut is going to keep on pushing out them delicious donuts for quite some time. Prices are low. Service is excellent. So go on and get you some low cost, high quality donuts.

This donut shop has some of the best donuts you will ever eat. I've only had donuts from here twice, and they were amazing both times.

Great donuts but the sandwiches are a hit and miss. Once in awhile I order bacon egg and cheese croissant. I ask if they can make the bacon crispy. About 60 percent of the time it is perfect other times it looks like a warmed up frozen breakfast sandwich from Walmart. It has no crisp and I?m sure would stick on a wall if thrown.

Staff was friendly and prompt despite how busy they were! The blueberry donut I just had might be the tastiest donut ever! Shinobu approved!

Remember the angels from back in the day they had the piping coming out of the games you could tell whether they were chocolate or vanilla and when you bit into him that stuff went everywhere well these are today's Angels at 1 5.00 a dozen I will not be going back for any more those are the driest donuts I've ever eaten nice and fresh but dry I won't be buying anymore

Today I drove 22 miles from St. Louis to Godfrey, Illinois to visit the last remaining Mister Donut in North America! Founded in 1956 by the brother in law of the man who started Dunkin' Donuts, the last remaining shops in America and Canada all closed around 2006 or converted to Dunkin. Mister Donuts are still big in Japan where they are featured in a popular anime. I didn?t know that mister donut originates from the United States. They are the biggest doughnut chain store in Japan. They serve really good doughnuts. I would like to visit this Godfrey store some day.

They informed me Japan has many Mister Donut stores & they get visited quiet often from people from Japan to have their picture taken with the current retired career Navy owner, Caesar Blanco. Legendary donut shop been around for years was a lot of Mr Donuts back in the day around the St Louis area. There was also locations around the country this is the LAST Mr Donut in the US. All the other Mr Donuts is over in the far East.

Came from out of town to try these donuts and they certainly did not disappoint. As soon as I bit into the blueberry donuts my nose was assaulted by the delicious aroma of blueberry. The cinnamon twist was superb. The interior of this bakery looks like it hasn't changed in decades and I'm all for it. If you live in the general area and haven't come here yet there may be something wrong with you. I left with two dozen and can't wait to sample them all!

Mister Donut is a very popular, huge franchise empire in Japan. Unfortunately, this is the last store in the US, although it started in this country. I drove for 8 hours to pay a visit, my pilgrimage, which is totally worth it. One item in my bucket list checked ?? ??????

Just found out you are the last remaining Mister Donuts in America. That is terrible. Just told my wife about Mister Donuts the other day and she had never heard of you, she is a little younger then I am anyway we are in Central Illinois right now and we will absolutely see you in a couple weeks. I've been coming to Mister Donut for a long time now and have been more of a regular customer recently. Amazing donuts, plus other food items like breakfast sandwiches. Service is always great and everyone is very polite. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming.

Did you know that this is the last Mister Donut in the COUNTRY? We are truly lucky to have this little gem in our hometown. Everything is amazing that they make here, but you can't leave without trying the basic honey dip donut. The staff are always so sweet and the place reminds you of an old diner you would see in the movies. Grab some donuts to go, or stay and eat a full breakfast with the local folk.

Very tasty donuts. One of the very few places that has custard filled long john donuts. The jelly donut was super fluffy and had very good jelly. The cake donut had the closest cake flavor I have had. The breakfast sandwiches are hands down the best and the coffee is perfect. I highly recommend stopping in with the family.

My sister and I (both of us in our 60's) traveled from northern Indiana to visit the last remaining Mister Donut in these United States. Let me tell you, it didn't disappoint! From the donuts, to the service, to the atmosphere (like a time capsule). If you are close enough, or even not, and remember this store, you owe it to yourself to visit.

I live in Hannibal, MO and anytime I come to godfrey, I ALWAYS get my breakfast here. These are the best doughnuts I've ever had from anywhere. The staff is great too! Try the cinnamon doughnuts holes, you will not be disappointed!!

Best donuts we've ever had. I stopped while going out of town to see family and this was their only request. I picked up a big box of Blueberry cake, Chocolate cake and Chocolate Long John's!!! 4 hour's later, still just as fresh just as good as if I just walked out of the store. Thank you so much ??

They have the best donuts! Their hours are quite limited, but it's worth leaving the house early. Sometimes that are selection is not the best during later hours so I would advise getting there as early as possible if you want a certain donut or a variety to choose from. They do have some unique options, as well as the old classic standards. They have the best glazed around, coined "honey dip."

A staple in my wife's and my weekly routine. Cool old-school donut shop feel with good sandwiches and, of course, donuts. Staff is always pleasant, kind, and attentive, and they draw a decent crowd that adds to the atmosphere. We will continue to be regular customers.

Once a dominant North American chain, this is the last location and you can see why it remains. Good food, good prices, friendly employees. Hot options and great coffee as well as expected donut favorites. I only wish they still had buttermilk bars!

I have only been once but it was nice to see a small, local donut place. I only wish I had gotten there earlier in the day to get blueberry donuts. The custard filled Long John was delicious.

Great freshly made fried donuts. Better than Krispy Kreme, dunking donuts could never dreamed of tasting this good. The owner is nice, loves his customers and treads the employees well. The employees are nice polite and efficient. The coffee is amazing, make sure you get a punchanged card if you are going to be a regular. This local establishment is located in Alton, IL off of IL Rte 3. They serve a variety of different types of donuts and pastries I believe and the coffee they serve is excellent. Check them out when you roll through that part of Alton. IL alright. See ya!

I was here a hour before they closed, still plenty of fresh doughnuts available. Surprisingly the place was still pretty busy and you could definitely tell that the doughnuts are made fresh. Dozen price is fair for the going rate of doughnuts these days.

An Alton/Godfrey staple. The only place my family will get donuts. My husband takes our kids every Saturday morning and it's a tradition that will last forever. Only made possible by the wonderful people here.

We love Mister Doughnut. The staff is always friendly even when there is a long line. The doughnuts are always good, if you go too late in the morning they will sometimes be out or low of the popular doughnuts. I have never gotten anything but doughnuts but do offer biscuits and gravy and a breakfast sandwich.

They were closing in 20 minutes, when I stopped in on a whim from running errands, on Saturday but when I asked if I would be holding them up, they very enthusiastically asked me what I wanted, asked me to sit down, what size coffee, APOLOGIZED for having to use styro. cups ... brought me a plate with my cinnamon roll ... It would not be exaggerating to state that Mr. Donut is a pillar of the Alton/Godfrey community. I don't even want to imagine a world without donuts. ;-) Family-owned and operated. Really excellent and delicious. They are all extremely friendly.

You absolutely can not get a better cup of coffee anywhere else. This is where my friends meet for coffee but we always get donuts. They smell and taste soooo good.

Hubby forgot donuts on counter. He did not want to go back & get them, I'm having trouble walking this morning. Called, explained what happened & asked for credit for next time as I figured they'd just put them back on display & resell. Guy started stammering when I asked for credit. I called in order. Picked up and confusion w/2dz of "plain" old fashioned dz. 1 chocolate cover and other just plain. Chocolate was cover and no icing. Which should be. Other was icing. But they did offer to refund. So was I Ok. Still place another order Ma' could have her plain ol fashion donut. Just have to make another @26mi. journey. Hence score of 4

I spent 3 years living in Northern Japan with the US Air Force, so I was super excited to see a Japanese favorite right here in Godfrey! I just went in this morning to get some donuts and was disappointed to see so many people not wearing masks inside, especially a male employee. Wearing his green mask on his chin, not covering his nose or mouth, does not count as wearing a mask. It?s good to know that the global pandemic is a joke to these people.

Got a chance to speak with the owner, I'm very pleased to see he takes pride in his Craftsmanship. Few people now a days do that. When I'm back in town I'll be sure to drop by again! Keep it up guys!

I loved this place as a young child and still do! I used to get chocolate milk and donut holes EVERYTIME! It?s sad that it takes me 20 minutes to get here but always the best choice if I have a doctors appointment!
