It's a donut. Great eye-candy and they went light on the mouth-candy (it's not sugary sweet is what I'm getting at here). Packed with filling so the prices are understandable. Black forest one was a bit lackluster with nothing particularly special about it. Just a mouth full of cream and cherries. The shop is cute! I love the theming. It's a nice treat if you're around the area.
Beautiful little donut shop with great people! The interior is phenomenal and they have some interesting flavors! Black forest, blueberry lime, and s'mores! Worth a stop and visit!
Love the dough! Not too heavy. Toppings are good flavour wise but a bit too much filling ???? tried the maple pecan and lemon meringue - could use all that filling for another plain donut ?? Coffee was good and strong but not filled to the top - pricey for the portion :/ ? update The pumpkin cheesecake was surprisingly SO good and we don?t even like pumpkin flavored usually. Definitely try their donuts with cream, that?s the best part as it?s not too heavy or sweet. the glazed ones are pretty average.
I was so delighted to come to Magic donuts for the first time. First and foremost, I was greeted by two very friendly young gents. They were very patient with me as I asked a lot of questions because I have food allergies, but I do love a doughnut! I decided on two, one the dark chocolate salted and the other the sprinkles. Yum!! I really liked the dough, it was a soft and fluffy dough, but it seemed like a cake donut though it was a yeast doughnut. They had so many wonderful options that I could not eat
Been wanting to try these donuts for awhile ? not only are they INCREDIBLY instagrammable, but the sourdough spin on a donut makes them an obvious homage to SF. We picked up half a dozen for a party and they were an instant hit ? our friends loved the novelty and unique flavors (such as ?blueberry and lime? and ?campfire s?mores?), and they were big enough to cut into smaller bites for everyone to try. The chewy texture leans less towards a typical baked dessert and more towards regular bread, which actua
This unique sourdough donut spot is becoming one of my favorite donut spots in the city. I first went on a Sunday around 11am and they were already sold out of their most popular donuts. Went back during the week and tried their cheesecake donut and it was epic. Their donuts are about $6 each and they do offer them by the dozen (expensive but worth it). Their coffee is good too.
Magic Donuts delivers a delightful experience with their sourdough donuts. Freshly baked each day, these donuts have a perfect balance of sweetness that makes every bite enjoyable. The texture is wonderfully light yet satisfying, making it hard to stop at just one. Highly recommended for any donut lover!
I was not a donut person until I tried this place!! I got the strawberry and cream donut ?? ??and I was surprised it tasted not just like regular whipped cream, but delicious cream cheese ??! Which goes well with the strawberry. It?s filling like a piece of strawberry cheesecake and not too sweet. The interior is also very cute and clean! (Sorry my photos didn?t do it justice). One star off because it?s more expensive than other places, but definitely a nice treat to myself and people I love ??
Recently I heard about this place so after some light research I decided it was worth checking out this morning. I love the location and at the time I was there it was super quiet and empty. The donuts looked so tasty and well presented. I opted for a milk chocolate and strawberry. The sourdough gives it a good crumb and nice soft chew. I appreciated the milk chocolate being not overly sweet. There were slight moments of crispiness that added to the yumminess factor. My strawberry wasn't eaten for a whil
I was super impressed by the sourdough yeast donuts that Magic Donuts and Coffee makes. They only had sugar & spice left by the time we arrived, midway into a Saturday afternoon. Luckily, I love cinnamon sugar! And I had to take a picture of that texture after one bite. The sourdough hits you on the aftertaste, and it lingers with joy. Gotta go back to try a flavor like lemon meringue or cheesecake someday!
This is a really cute cafe with limited seating. We tried their lattes (hot and iced) and both tasted amazing and high quality. We didn?t try the donuts but they had a great variety of flavours to choose from.
I ate 4 donuts. The dough is not like anything I have had. It is substantial and flavorful, without being heavy, which leaves plenty of room for the stacked ingredients. I can?t stop thinking about the lemon meringue. It was so perfect. Definitely a destination donut.
I had high hopes for this place but unfortunately it did not live up to the hype. Magic Donuts offers a wide variety of sourdough donuts and they have a lot of unique flavors. We ended up trying what they suggested: the dark chocolate sea salt and the vanilla. The texture of the donuts are definitely different than your traditional mom & pop donut shop but still pretty solid nonetheless. However, the vanilla donut was lacking vanilla flavor and just tasted like sweet bread in all honesty. The dark chocolate
so glad to see new shops opening up around potrero hill. magic donuts & coffee is a welcome addition to the neighborhood serving fresh sourdough donuts and espresso/cold brew. the donuts were amazing and would recommend. service was extremely friendly and aesthetics were cute as well. would come by when in search for a treat but donuts are on the pricier end. skip the coffee though - they don?t know how to make a flat white. vanilla honey: looks unassuming but a top tier donut. great flavor that wasn?t to
Oops I did it again. Gave in to my sweet tooth. And... I'd do it again! ?? Lemon meringue pie was just divine. A great balance of creamy meringue, tart lemon, sweet icing, and sourdough. YUM YUM YUM! The campfire was also delicious, especially for those who prefer less sweet. I'm not sure how you eat it without creating a mess... The donut itself is lightly crisp on the outside, moist and chewy and slightly sour inside.
I am part of the cohort gentrifying this neighborhood. This establishment was targeted to people like me. It is ~$6 USD per donut. I recognize what this means for generational locals and original residents to the Potrero community. So this would have been a 4 out of 5 star business for me at best. But I only enjoyed half of what I ordered, hence the 3 stars. I got the cinnamon sugar donut, the matcha donut, the lemon meringue donut, and the maple pecan. - the cinnamon sugar is a simple donut (doesn?t com
Very, very good doughnuts, excellent flavors, BUT just not worth the cost; the exception being their lemon meringue & campfire donuts, which were genuinely special.
First timer here: blueberry lime + maple pecan Donuts with a sourdough base twist. I'm personally a fan of sourdough and enjoyed the light tang along, chew, and gentle crunch from the bread. The flavors were bold and filling. The maple pecan was decadent and (I believe) is filled with some condensed milk. It was texturally pleasant. Blueberry lime was a simple and well made donut. I enjoyed how "light" and well balanced it was. I like tart fruit flavored stuff. Overall, this is an elevated donut with SF
Such a pretty addition to Potrero Hill! I tried the maple pecan donut, and I would definitely try that again! Although the place has a nice variety of donuts, it would be amazing if they could up their coffee game! I ordered a latte, and it was served a bit cold. I didn't mind as I kind of expected that since their main focus was the donuts. I would love to revisit if their coffee making skill gets better (Since I was there for coffee + donuts)
On our walk around the neighborhood, we ended up happestancing into this donut shop. What a delightful design on the interior of this place! Do consider staying in and having your donut at the window counter so you can watch the locals go by. The service is great, atmosphere is fantastic. Did you know that the baker is somehow associated with Michelin stars? I don?t know exactly but there?s something about Michelin and the baker at this place. It?s verifiable through the donut quality and taste. The mering
Shockingly mid. Flavors are interesting, but the donut itself does not have that great fried crunch or soft cakey-ness. Not a good donut, but the flavors themselves were pretty decent. Also, really expensive. Like yikes.
This place REEKS of racism and preferntial treatment. Being a person of color, I experienced the most appaling customer experience in my life; and of all places, San Francisco. The counter person didn't bother to even acknowledge me or my brother and acting like he was doing me a favor giving us our donuts. At first, I thought it was me being overly sensitive but after reading other comments, my experience was confirmed. I'll NEVER come back to this place. I'd rather spend my money someplace else. Bob's
It's definitely exciting to see new food places being open in Potrero. I went in the early afternoon so no lines and service was super fast. I know SF is expensive but $14 for two donuts seemed a little more I'd pay for donuts hence the four stars. Donuts were very good - I got the maple pecan and cheesecake. Both were tasting good.
Donuts are ok- a little too sweet. Service was shitty- the guy serving me (12:45 on 11/11) couldn?t be bothered to say one word to me. Also excessively slow, and they charged $5.75 for a can of coke, lol. Spent $34 for 3 donuts, a mocha, and a coke. Just not worth it
Pricey, but delicious and with a unique flavor profile (sourdough) and great texture (a process used in making Japanese milk bread, a news article informed me). Tried three different concoctions in my first visit and loved all three.
Very disappointing experience ? twice. The first time I visited, the service was cold, fake, and unwelcoming. I gave it another chance today, but was completely ignored while others who arrived after me were helped first. When I politely asked to order, I was told to go to the back of a line that hadn?t even formed when I got there. It?s hard not to feel like I was being singled out or treated differently. No one deserves to feel invisible. Very disheartening.
New favorite donut spot in the city. Still dreaming about their sourdough donuts - perfectly crispy and fluffy at the same time. My favorite so far is the Blueberry Lime but all 4 flavors I?ve tried were phenomenal. The coffee is also super high quality and comes out quick!
Okay so this is donut heaven. We couldn?t decide which of these beauties to try so we came home with several. All amazing! Not your basic greasy donut, but light, perfectly textured and not too sweet.
The best doughnuts EVER. The sourdough perfectly balances the sweetness of the flavors. Every flavor is thoughtful and sophisticated! So delicious!
Delicious and creative donuts in a beautiful space. Maple pecan, campfire and cheesecake donuts were all great, as well as the latte.
I witnessed the most shockingly disgusting thing here recently-- a woman who was minding her own business sitting on an outside table got peed on by a dog who lives on the patio above, which is a metal grate directly above the tables (I was sitting at a nearby table and saw the dogs on the patio). After explaining the situation to the staff inside, she was NOT helped by them. After cleaning her laptop and dress as best she could with some tiny napkins, the woman left. After she left, I heard the staff laugh
Donuts are good but pricy (~$5 each). Limited seating. Sold out by noon on a Saturday.
If you?re just a huge fan of bread in general like me the sourdough donuts here are a must try! The sourdough taste and chew does come out and cuts against the sweetness of the glaze and I found it so interesting! Such a unique bite! Both times I came were early in the morning so I had my pick of donuts. Some look almost like mini cakes, they?re so decadent. I went simple with dark chocolate sea salt and blueberry lime and the flavors sang beautifully.
The employees were professional, and the cafe was clean and tidy. For someone used to Krispy Kreme or your classic bakery, though, the donuts were not for me. While I must admit the Boston creme was baked fresh and was oddly fluffy like biting into a small pillow, yet the sweet custard filling was overpowered by the bitter dark chocolate frosting. I also made the mistake of ordering a milk chocolate donut thinking I was getting a sweet treat, but again, the sea salt made it taste like it had been dropped in
May 2024: Stopped by for coffee ? and a donut ?? after lunch next door. Tried the blueberry lime ????? donut. Was tasty and went well with the coffee. I'd come back again for more after lunch dessert.
I mean.. $10 for a small coffee and a donut?? I think I was in a bit of a shock, I couldn't say no and paid for it. It all would've been somewhat tolerable if any of them were any good. The chocolate on top of my donut was good ish, but the donut itself.. it was dense and chewy.. I mean.. I like my pizza chewy, but not my donut. Isn't the whole point of a donut that it is fluffy and soft?..?? Am i wrong?.. The coffee wasn't even a little bit better than the ones at 7/11 or gas stations given the price.
really delicious donuts ? I really like the chewiness and subtle tang from the sourdough. The blueberry lime was bursting with flavor and I?d totally get it or another simple flavor again. The lemon meringue had a really tart and punchy curd which balanced the sweet meringue, but there was waaaay too much meringue/not enough curd which made it too sweet. I think just a thin swirl of meringue would?ve been perfect, or at least piping with more surface area so there would be more toasty flavor from browning.
If you need a morning donut and coffee, this should definitely be on your list.
Magic Donuts is the best donut shop in San Francisco! The sugar & spice donut is delicious, with its perfect balance of fluffy sourdough and cinnamon sugar topping. They also have pretty decent coffee to pair with your donut. The friendly staff and clean shop make for a pleasant experience.
Aesthetically cute, but if you're craving a donut, I wouldn't actually describe what they make as "donuts". They taste more like crust-less SF sourdough bread, chewy and "wet" (high moisture dough) like the kind you'd get at Tartine, but then covered in glaze. They have no outer crisp like a donut, and don't have the texture of donuts, so they kind of just taste wrong to my palette. The regular glazed just highlights the gummy, chewy texture of the "bread" and really isn't pleasant to eat bread-innard-text
Delicious sourdough donuts with inventive flavors, and super friendly staff. It?s great spot for a friendly catch-up, grabbing a snack/coffee to-go, or grabbing a box for dinner parties. My fav flavors are lemon meringue, and blueberry lime. Although they may feel pricey when compared to other donuts, I would categorize these as artisanal desserts inspired by donuts. Would highly recommend giving them a try!
Wow, sourdough donuts! I arrived curious and slightly skeptical, but the first bite sealed the deal: they?re incredible. Not overly sweet, not greasy, almost like a morning bun, chewy and moist and with a satisfying density. These don?t disappear in your mouth like certain airy kompetitor. I had the Maple Pecan (which accentuated the morning bun comparison). It was filled with an excellent custard, and only lightly glazed with maple, so the tang of the sourdough held its own against the other flavors. Also,
Are these donuts expensive and bougie? Yes. Are they also decadent and delicious? Yes. This isn't a place I would buy a dozen from, but I love these donuts as a special treat. The flavors are unique and the shop is very cute. Staff is always very friendly. One star off for quality control. The pretty ones in the case look flawless. A lot of the ones I've gotten have been pulled from a rack next to the kitchen. They have all been...wet? Like there has been a bunch of condensation on them or something. It h
We tried the Lemon Meringue and Blueberry Lime donuts and both were lovely. Using sourdough for donuts is something we have never seen before and it was surprisingly good. The donut was crispy on the outside, soft with a slight sourdough flavor/texture on the inside and not too sweet :) My husband had a vanilla latte as well, which was a bit too sweet for our taste but we will definitely be back for more donuts!
Horrible service. Not worth the price. Staff is cold, uninterested, and clearly doesn?t care about the customer experience. It?s sad to see people running a caf? who don?t know how to treat people with basic respect. I won?t be coming back.
Super cutely decorated retro style pink and minty pastel cafe with magical sourdough doughnuts! Their staff is super nice and welcoming, even asked what toastiness I preferred for my lemon meringue donut. The place is nice to sit and chat or pop open a laptop. Their lattes are also yummy. My favorite flavor so far is definitely lemon meringue, no matter how messy it is!
Amazing donuts. The Black Forest donut was delicious and very big.
Attached to a "luxury living" complex where $3200/mo will get you a 16?x13? living space Magic Donuts & Coffee comes from Bacchus Management Group, and although Spruce may have lost its Michelin Star the $5-6 Sourdough Donuts here rank among the best citywide. Part of Potrero Hill, a pastel shop featuring friendly service plus plenty of nearby parking, guests visiting Magic Donuts & Coffee will find Donut Hole samples on entry plus a dozen daily choices listed adjacent several styles of Coffee. A differen
Yep, they?re magic. I eagerly inhaled mine so I didn?t get a picture but they look and taste just as magical as the name suggests. These are the densest donuts I?ve ever had. If you like very dense and moist donuts as opposed to light and fluffy, these are your jam. The flavors are so legit. We had a blood orange donut, lemon meringue, campfire (s?mores), and a maple pecan. I really wish I?d gotten a picture! Thank you to the amazingly friendly staff. They were personable, helpful, and patient. This place i
Listed hours are open until 4p but they often sell out early, which is fine, but they don't answer their phone or post on social media when they're out.
I'm not one to write reviews, but this place was special: top tier service and perfect pastries. Their donuts aren't in the same class as some places, but the quality, flavor, and style justify the price without a doubt.
Excellent donuts. Not too sweet. Strawberry cream is the best.
I tell everyone I meet about this place. The texture of the donuts is impeccable. Light, just the right amount of chew, not greasy at all. The flavors are fantastic. I only wish it wasn?t so far away from me.
Best donuts ever! Actually, the first good donuts I've had.
I tried and loved my first experience here earlier this week, and wanted to start my Saturday with these delicious treats. Unfortunately, they opened about 10 minutes late, and when I got inside, they only had three flavors out. The girl behind the counter said the other flavors would be out in 5 minutes, so I gathered some patience and sat down. Nearly 30 minutes after they opened, I finally gave up waiting and made some choices based on what was available. I asked if this was customary, and she explained
Donuts are good. Definitely not cheap, but not overpriced either. Coffee is solid. Staff is friendly, and the service is always good. Small thing, but they also default to a $0 tip, which is so refreshing in a world where you?re constantly bombarded with forced tip screens.
All of the donuts here looked excellent and I wish I could eat them all because mine (blueberry/lime and vanilla honey) were so Deliciously amazing! There is a nice outdoor seating place and the sourdough added a nice tang to the donuts.
Finally, a coffee shop with free WiFi and good seating in Potrero Hill! Donuts are insanely good?pricier than your average donut, but these decadent creations are more like something from a gourmet bakery than your typical corner donut shop. Great indoor and outdoor seating for conversation or getting a bit of work done. If I could change one thing, I?d suggest turning down the music a bit. It?s a bit loud, but at least their playlist is good!
Their blueberry-lime donut is the bomb. Sweet, but balanced with a nice tang. Texture is fluffy but also slightly chewy, so it doesn't just dissolve in your mouth. Impressive.
Such a cute spot tucked away in quiet portrero. Easy to find. The selections are interesting and the donuts are unique and gourmet. About $5ish per donut. Not a lot of seating so probably wouldn't hang out here for long. I got the blood orange and campfire (topped with a big ole' s'more). Parking is all street parking and not that hard to find in the morning.
Is it pricy for a donut? Certainly. But is it worth it? Most definitely! I got the dark chocolate sea salt and it was absolutely fire
Shocking, unsanitary conditions. The restaurant has tables set up under a residential patio with grate floor. I just witnessed, on 7/14/24, a poor woman sitting outside get peed on by the dog that lives on the patio. It doused her food, coffee, and work laptop. 20 minutes passed and the staff haven?t cleaned or closed the sullied table and napkins. 12:06pm, I am overhearing staff laugh about the incident. This is horrifying and depraved; it haunts my thoughts. Cute branding, great coffee, and best fancy do
The donuts are special! Not overly sweet. Must try!
We were a first time customer. We got a variety of a dozen donuts.
I always appreciate when artisanal donuts are not cake donuts. These were bomb, from doing the classics right to getting crazy with cheesecake and whatnot. Presentation is wonderful and the flavors match.
Nice clean shop with outdoor seating. Open each day until the donuts sell out. Today (saturday) at 2:05pm they had 4 left
The space is very cute and inviting! I am not a fan of the sourdough donut, the taste and flavor are very off. Based on the taste of my drink and watching the barista make other drinks she did not seem very skilled.
Charging $6 and calling them Magic invites the skeptics. I personally ignore this nonsense and rate the product Not a fan of the standard American heavy, sweet, and greasy donut. This is lighter and more doughy, akin to a bomboloni. We tried the walnut/maple which was a very nice combination, not too sweet and enough cream I'll be back
Service was so good! They opened early for me. The donuts are fantastic!
Yummy, large donuts. Definitely a unique flavor, given that they're made with sourdough. Go early in the day before they sell out to have the best options of flavors.
This is the 3rd time I?ve gone. Will never be back or recommend this place again. The tall man with the glasses is disrespectful and has been discriminatory each time. I dismissed it the first 2 times not wanting to over think. But It was blatantly obvious how he treated me and my friend versus customers after me. This last time was it.
Delicious sourdough donuts! Sourdough is low gluten. I recommend the Vanilla, cardamom and cinnamon and lemon meringue.
Not everything needs a sourdough version. The donuts are too bready and dry inside. Not fluffy or light. I?d much rather have a traditional glazed donut for $1.25 instead of the $6 here.
Gotta get there early on weekends. Closed at 2pm Sunday in June, they're out of donuts. ??
WHAAAAT these are pretty much the best donuts I've ever had. I'm a big fan of artisan donuts and seek them out whenever I travel, glad SF finally has a place that competes!
Only ask for a coffee is you have time. Only 3 costumers and a coffee has taken at least 10 minutes. Still waiting. The girl is so slow! About the donuts - just donuts with different presentation.
Donuts were gummy and tasted weird. Very over priced at over $6 per donut! Latte was really good though.
Staff is absolutely lovely and the raspberry pistachio donut was incredible :) definitely will be going again!
I don?t even like donuts and I think this place is amazing.
?? everything is tasty ??
Very rude. Tall white man, wearing glasses worst customer service. He?s PREJUDICE! I don?t recommend anyone to come here unless you are white but even then why come somewhere where people are not treated fairly. Wish I could give 0 stars and get a refund.
Literally the best donut you will have in your entire life!!!!!
Yummmmm. And CUTE!! Couldn't resist buying a T-shirt too!
I was not disappointed with the specialty donuts. I had the strawberry and cream and maple pecan which was out of this world
I visited this place 3 times since they opened about 2 weeks ago.Absolutely amazing quality , pricey but also larger than most, real quality and freshly made , I doubt donuts can get any better than this . Customer service is great too.
Nice place with good doughnuts they're just a little too expensive $6 for a chocolate doughnut is on the pricey side
I love their sourdough donuts. Does s'mores and obey cheesecake donuts are probably my kids and my favorite.
?I wouldn?t waste your gluten on these.?
