The donuts are simple, and delicious. We had a glazed and strawberry frosted and both yeast/raised donuts. The glazed donut was soft and sweet from the glaze, didn?t crumble all over my lap or stick to my fingers when I bit into it. Huge plus! The frosting on the strawberry frosted was quite sweet, I brought out my inner child tastebuds to finish it. Will definitely go back for more.
This past March marked the very first time actually stepping into the shop. They are really good here and better than most donut shops in the county. Had the donuts off & on several years ago when my mom was working at the VA in North Chicago and used to bring left overs from other co-workers bringing in donuts in the morning. Can't review anything else here except the donuts which are delicious, sorry about that but I'll definitely be in here soon again being I work overnight and can easily stop in befor
Loved Lee donuts before new ownership. It was delicious and reliable. I went in recently and was surprised to see how much of the donuts they were out of at 10AM! It?s very odd? they need to make more of the classics. Also they were out of coffee sleeves - handing us a burning hot cup. This was after they microwaved the coffee?. Ugh!
First time trying Lee donuts and it was amazing the staff was super friendly. Their prices are much better than then a lot of other donut shops in the area. love the setup. My favorite is blueberry donut best I ever had.
So, a group of myself and 4 others came to this shop and did not have a good experience. First, when we first walked into the shop, it was very warm (like ~80?F). The menu was hard to read as well since the slide show was moving too fast on the screens to read it all. We all collectively ordered 2 donuts, a steak sandwich, a tuna sandwich, and 2 coffees. For the donuts, one was incredibly stale. For the tuna sandwich, it had gone bad and made one of the people in the group sick. The steak sandwich was okay,
New ownership, kind family, disappointing new donut changes :( So bummed cause I used to love their donuts and stop in all the time on my morning commute for office donuts. I'm a pastry snob, admittedly. Their donuts used to be petite and consistent and fresh every day and not-too-sweet. Now the donuts are bigger/thicker, dry, sloppy presentation, unpleasantly sweet, neon pink frosting, the jelly and pastry cream center of the stuffed donuts noticeably no longer homemade.... Also consistently nearly out of
Classic donuts, super fresh with excellent soft, full-bodied texture. Loved the old-fashioned.
Ever since the recent takeover by the new owners the inventory has dramatically gone down. They are out of doughnuts within two hours of opening. Their product is the best but it does the customer no good if they have no inventory. Dunkin Donuts down the street has probably increased their business just because of that.
Hands down the best donuts around, love to see the expansion of the new menu items. Keep up the great work, delicious & a good selection. Support your locals!!
Not worth going in the afternoon. At 4pm there were only 2 trays of donuts in the whole case, and they tasted stale. Coffee, advertised as Starbucks tasted like Folgers. The cream was not refrigerated and had been sitting out on the counter. My order was missing a coffee and the tuna sandwich was spoiled.
Unfortunately since this place has change ownership it has gone downhill. The donuts throughout the week seem to be a day or two old. I also had a bad experience ordering online. Placed the order 30 minutes before and hoped to pick it up on my way to work. They didn't even know they had an online order until I got therem. I then waited another 15 minutes for them to box everything up.
The donuts are still amazing!!!! The new look, service, and options are amazing. My family and I love the changes and appreciate the direction they are going in!!! Keep it up, we love it!!
Delicious donuts! ?? red velvet is my favorite. Very clean, really nice people and has a nostalgic set up. I love the vibe ??
What happened to all the donuts? I?ve been in here twice and walked out both times. So sad that the new owners are focusing on sandwiches now instead of Lee?s famous donuts. Ugh..
Okay, I have been a customer of Lee's Donuts for forever. I was very skeptical when the new owners took over. So, earlier this week I went in and placed my order for paczkis. Kind of the big donut shop test in my opinion. Typically, in the past, those were the only things available on Mardi Gras at Lee's. And it was a massive operation, with boxes of paczkis everywhere, stacked a dozen high, checklists pages long, people streaming through, and it was crazy. Now, they did not have the extensive list of flavo
OMG we found an actual donut shop! Since moving to Wisconsin from Cali, we have so missed corner donut shops. All we have in our area is the trash donuts from Grocery Stores, Kwik Trip, or Dunkin. This is the first actual donut shop we have seen and it did not disappoint. Big open space with lots of fun, large selection of donuts and a friendly staff
We had Lee Donuts for the first time the other day, I believe it is difficult to find a good donut shop in the area, but now I believe my search is over! I believe it was the owner that helped us with our order considering there was a newspaper hanging on the wall and her picture was on the cover of that newspaper, she was very kind gracious and helpful, everything you would expect in a local shop owner, The donuts were excellent, had a sampling of a vanilla frosted Long John, blueberry cake donut, maple gl
Great small business donut shop. The donuts are made fresh, so try and get there early. Our kids love picking out thier favorite donut. It's become a tradition for us to head there after church on Sundays. The staff are friendly and the donuts are delicious.
I was the first person to use their ATM machine, so they gave me a free donut. It was delicious. I will be back for more donuts!!
The donuts are fantastic but the place itself is gross. The floor is sticky and looks like it hasn't been swept or mopped in days. No napkins available and when we asked the staff said their boss hadn't ordered any paper goods or cleaning supplies in a while. The bathroom didn't have toilet paper, soap or paper towels either and was disgusting. I wonder if they even have soap in the kitchen to wash their hands. I don't think it's dramatic to say the health department should probably be called.
My daughter had her first donut here! She has food allergies and now that she has eliminated egg and dairy the only thing stopping us was peanuts. We are currently working on getting her cleared for that as well but this donut shop is peanut free! Great donuts and great service!
I really want to love Lee Donuts. The donuts themselves are amazing. Nothing super fancy, no frills, but dang they are so amazingly good. That said, the inside of the store is pretty bad. The floors are black and sticky from lack of mopping?gross. Broken down boxes stacked on the counter. Christmas decor still out in June. A bucket of crayons tossed in the corner, presumably for kids to color?? Just rough all around. Seeing the front of house in this shape really makes you question what the back of house lo
These folks have a variety of great donuts available. I seldom get to Libertyville early enough in the day to capitalize on their offerings, so when I do I take advantage of the opportunity. Their creative donuts outshine the products at Dunkin.
Lee Donuts is a great spot for anyone looking for fresh, delicious donuts. They have a wide variety of flavors to choose from, so there's something for everyone. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the location is convenient. I highly recommend checking them out!
Once upon a time, Lee's Donuts was the best donut shop in Lake County and arguably all of Illinois. However, my past two trips have been a letdown. The donuts no longer taste as fresh as they once did and seem somewhat greasier. Perhaps it was just a couple of bad days when we visited. I plan to give them another try soon, hoping it was just a temporary off period.
Second year in a row that the Paczki?s had raw dough in the middle. Disappointed that the Paczki?s were filled via cutting the pastry in half versus the traditional method of cutting a hole and piping the filling in.
I went at 1pm on a Sunday. Didn't expect the freshest donuts but for what I paid I did expect a good donut. These were adequate but nothing to go out of my way for. I've passed this place many times and finally decided to try, don't think I will be back. Had a chocolate long john and a cinnamon roll both were soft but flavor wasn't to my liking.
Paid 27 dollars for a dozen doughnuts that were hard as a rock. Filled 4 custards doughnuts for us just to find out that there was 2 drops of custard in the doughnuts which they charged us to fill. It was our first time in there we won't be back. Only good thing was the service with the staff.
Donuts and donut holes were easily some of the best I've ever had. Everything was fresh and tasty.
Fantastic donuts but sells out regularly.
Was here at 1230 and was closed. Pretty sure some Indian family took it over. And also why are there steak and tuna sandwiches in. A doughnut shop...
I went in for the first time and the ?? did not taste fresh at all. Even know it says make fresh daily and it wasn?t that late in the day either was before 8 am. I will try it again and update my review if it?s better next time. But those were definitely not fresh.
Lee's is sooooooo good. Best doughnuts in the area. But you have to order ahead or get there early because they will sell out by about 9:30 every morning.
Real nice staff, everyone at work was glad I stopped
Lee Donuts is pretty good, but probably not the 100% best in the area. I do recommend giving them a try. The donuts are quite tasty and the prices are fair. They have quite a variety to choose from, but get there early because they sell out of some quickly. The coffee is kept fresh and is very good. The shop is a little run down and old, but it is kept clean and pleasant.
This place is so good. The only complaint is I wish they made more red velvet donuts cause they seem to run out a lot (aka everyone wants them lol). I?d recommend go early, before 11am and hopefully there are still some left!
I don't know what happened to this place. The jelly donuts are half the size with hardly any filling, and the buttermilk donuts are much thinner now. It seems like the owner is trying to save money while still charging the same prices. I know it's been a few years, but the consistency they had under the old owners is gone. For the price they charge, the customers should be receiving a better product.
The old fashioned, red velvet doughnuts were amazing. The custard Bismarcks were awesome as well. Friendly service as well. Best selection if you go before noon, but there are still doughnuts available afternoon.
There?s no better way to start your lazy Sunday morning with donuts! We?ve been coming here for years, and every time we always feel welcome. The employees are friendly and efficient, the donuts are scrumptious. They have peach and apple fritters on Friday, Saturday and Sunday only, and just small batches. What are you waiting for? Go get yours now!
I pick up donuts about 2 to 3 times a month. The quality of these donuts is superior to all other donut shops in a 200 mile radius. My review is about a person not about a product. It's because of Heidi that I will continue to go back and tell people about this wonderful establishment. She has never said no to any order I requested and always greets me with a smile and a honest enthusiasm that conveys my value as a client's. The skill set of true customer service is a lost art. I thank you Heidi for the b
Super disappointed after planning my morning around picking up donuts for my office at 5sm. Waited for them to open but 12 past 5 and there wasn't any sign that they were opening. No posted changed buisness hours. Hopefully I can try them out another day, the shop looked cute and I hear good reviews on the donuts.
Stopped in for the first time after years of passing by. The donuts are good and fresh. The yeast glazed is soft with a little chew, but I think it was a little greasy. The frosted cake was delicious and tender. All around a great experience. The inside of the shop could use a good de-cluttering and more lighting!
No flavor, not fresh, no cream filled, 10 a.m. on a Saturday morning. Took a small bite out of a few different ones?at least 2 tasted nasty (sour cream and a plain with chocolate frosting).
Pretty limited selection of donuts (not sure if it was because I rolled in at noon), no credit cards for under $5, but polite and friendly. My plain cake donut was a little sweet, undersized and soft (not fried enough to be lightly crispy) the glazed was better.
Best donuts in TOWN! My mom always told be about this place and her store meetings and how they would take turns bringing donuts from this bakery. I went and i loved it! The smell the smiles on everyone's faces! It was a wonderful experience.
Donuts were a bit stale and the flavors were firmly in the meh category. Plus, the shop felt dingy and claustrophobic, and in desperate need of a deep clean and a fresh coat of paint.
The maple bacon Long John is hands down my favorite morning treat. You have to get there early to snag one (or call and order it so they save one!) All the other donuts are delicious and always super fresh, the red velvet is a favorite of mine. There is plenty of seating if you want to eat in, plus open wifi for customers so you can get some work done
Wonderful counter service, clean area around the tables if you eat in, retro music playing (some disco this morning), great donut selection and hot, tasty coffee. Pretty awesome. Apple fritter is smaller than some others but it is tasty with plenty of apple.
OMG delicious & fresh donuts! We ordered a dozen donuts, and 2 dozen munchkins! The folks we shared the goodness loves everything. Very reasonably priced & great & friendly staff.
Fantastic old fashioned delicious fresh donuts!! lt will definitely bring you back to your childhood. Get there early! Especially if your favorite is the maple bacon they sell out fast. By far my very favorite donut shop. One taste and you will agree. ?????
This used to be our go to, before Covid it was the best. Now it?s borderline depressing. No ice cream, no breakfast sandwich, one half awake worker and most importantly?the donuts just aren?t as good anymore. Super bummed. Please get back into the game Lee!
I really like the donuts here. They taste great and don't seem to get stale as fast as some other donuts. Everyone at work enjoys these and we seem to have chosen Lee's as our go to place.
Outstanding! Amazing donuts and staff!
Donut ice cream sandwiches - the real WOW! Definitely worth the calories. Donuts made there and the ice cream is locally made too. Also - I Must also tell you about the coffee! I'm really particular and only got coffee there because I knew we wouldn't be stopping anywhere else soon. I was simply amazed at how delicious it was. Like drinking it in Guatemala or Costa Rica at a coffee finca. Just a little store front in a strip mall, so no upscale ambiance. They do have tables, but taking stuff to go is eas
We Drove ALL THE WAY FROM INDIANA to try there DELICIOUS Apple Fritters and let me tell you they did not Disappoint!!! Jim the owner was a Very great guy we got a variety of about 2 Dozen Donuts along with the best cup of Coffee I've ever had in my life! It's very hard to Find a Donut shop like this anymore. I hate the same taste of Dunkin and all there coffee and products. But if you ever in the area I suggest you stop on in Lee Donuts and check it out!!! We will be checking out his restaurant shortly
If you are looking for real donuts, this is the place! Right off 294 for easy access from all over Wisconsin and Illinois. The place is relatively new, no frills coffee shop meets donut joint. Huge glass case of all the donuts and muffins are out front and they make the donuts right on site, so they are all fresh and delicious. Do not miss the old fashioned donut, truly old fashion! Also saw a sign for Scornovacco pizza slices, so may want to hit it up for a lunch stop.
The donut seriously are the bomb! Fresh delicious the way you remember them when you were a child. My only gripe is they never make enough Maple bacon donuts. Please please make more I'm tired of being disappointed when I go there to buy them I keep going earlier and earlier it's never early enough they always sell out.
Wow. Haven't had donuts this good in quite some time. Staff were extremely friendly and found out they can fill (cream/jelly/lemon) donuts while you wait. Don't skip the apple fritter. 10/10. Will be back.
Addictive, dangerously good. Just the right amount of sweet prepared in a peanut-free zone (according to them) and served by friendly people. Bought a dozen for $13, had a friend with a pretty serious nut allergy throw down 2 with no ill effects, so I assume that Lee's is nut free. They are made daily on site. They serve them up right before opening. They also have super good ice cream and coffee. They had an espresso machine, but it was a (very high end) push-button deal, and I am a ridiculous coffee snob,
Conveniently located, ample parking, friendly and efficient staff and most importantly... delicious donuts. Wide selection fairly priced, the chocolate cake donut is unreal! I have a new favorite donut place!
My husband had a warm apple fritter a la mode. It was delicious, I took a few bites. We also grabbed a few donuts to go. There was a good selection, I do wish there was blueberry (they ran out) , but to make up for that they had red velvet. Yum!
Stood in line for 10 min waiting for the VERY slow lady behind the counter to help the 3 people in front of me. All they ordered was 2 coffees, a hot chocolate and 3 donuts.....stood that entire time to be told they have NO DONUTS!!!! With an hour and a half until close......guess I won't be coming back here!!! Learn how to make MORE THAN enough donuts for the entire day. If you have leftovers, friggin donate them!!!!!!! Good lord, learn how to operate a business....
The service is simply the best, most friendly, and warmest you can imagine. The donuts are similar and always bring a smile to my daughters face. The Apple and peach fritters are, hands down, the most insanely delicious you can find
Okay, so I have to clarify I'm giving it this rating for the fritters. They are incredible. I've tried the rest of the donuts. I would give them a 3 star since I think they're about average. The crullers are a solid 4. But seriously, THE FRITTERS. Incredible. Would recommend again and again. They ice cream is pretty good too.
Thought they were fine. Nothing exceptional to the donuts themselves. I may have gone in a tad later than when the morning batches come out. Strolled in at around 11, so I will give the benefit of the doubt and assume that this probably had an impact on the freshness.
Amazing customer service, amazing donuts the apple fritter is very moist and tasty
Great place for donuts. Very reasonably priced and shop is always clean, staff very friendly and professional. Can't forget about the most important thing: DONUTS. ?? Yum! Can't even compare to Dunkin....the Boston creme are amazing. The best I've ever had. The apple fritters can't be missed either. I'm just happy this place exists! If you're in the Libertyville area, skip Lovin Oven and go to Lee's instead.
Great local donut shop! The apple fritters are to die for. Looking forward to stopping by on the way to work this Friday for National Donut Day to get my fill. (And for everyone at my office). They ran out last year way too early.
The trilogy of doughnuts in Lake County O'Brothers Gurnee Lee
Absolutely the best donuts. The apple fritters are amazing. They're freshly made all day long. If you're in the Libertyville area, you've got to stop by. If you're not close by, get a dozen or 2 to last you until the next time you are.
The donuts were so good. We went on a Saturday at 745am. After 8 or so they started getting a line. We had the buttermilk donut, apple fritter, and chocolate frosted with sprinkles. Yummy!
The donuts are made fresh and they have some very unique flavors! Go and see for yourself! They even make Happy Birthday into donuts and they are so beautiful! Highly recommend them!!!
Becoming a Sunday family tradition to stop at lee donuts on the way to the prairie wolf dog park, the only thing we can't agree on is which are better...yeast or cake! Donuts are so good I haven't been able to take a photo we eat them so fast every time.
The donuts themselves were fine the price however was not appropriate I bought 4 donuts and 2 milks and paid $14. I've always heard good things about this place so I thought what the heck just give it a try but the donuts were mediocre at best. Based off of price Alone I would not go back.
Donuts done right! After moving out of the city, I missed our occasional trips for ?fancy? donuts. Dunkin isn?t what I am looking for. Lee?s makes real donuts the right way. Love this place!
These USED to be the Bestest, most scrumdillishous, donuts ANYWHERE! I don't know if they changed owners or just recipes. But EVERYTHING was TASTELESS and BLAND. The apple fritters (which I bought a dozen), old fashions (4), and buttermilk (7), I'm so disappointed ????. $57 down the drain.
Not the frozen and thawed donuts we have grown accustomed to. Donuts are fresh and delicious, very old school. Staff is friendly and the store is always clean.
Best donuts ever!! Owner is caring and friendly and so is the staff. So popular have yo get there early for your favorite choices :)
Those guys are really nice once they gave me free donuts really nice guys. Every morning they make fresh donuts. Also the make coffee so excellent. If I were you guys I would enter in the morning or the afternoon.
Another place failed on my birthday apple fritters. My husband looked for the crunchiest, tastiest, fritters, and found here. The fritters are absolutely amazing, buttery, crunchy, and soooo delicious!
Excellent donuts and friendly staff. The Buttermilk donuts were the best I've ever had, but the Boston Cream glaze was too thick and too sweet.
Stopped there on way to a family get together. Servicevwas Great!, Very friendly & Attentive, really good suggested options. Great Fritters & Long John's. A definite Stop if you are in the area!
I love this place. Always stop when biking to Independence Grove (which is also amazing). Nice variety of fresh donuts with coffee. It doesnt get better than this for me in the summer
Really really good donuts! Excellent service! And good coffee. Prices are fair. This is not some Dunkin Donuts junk. It's serious donuts. And open at 5am!
Simply the best donuts in lake county!! I grew up in Vernon hills, and now live 30 minutes away from Lee's and I still will make the trek for these donuts!
Great doughnuts and wonderful customer service. I am partial to the vanilla long johns, but everything is tasty. They now also serve ice cream. What's not to like... a warm doughnut ala mode!
Everytime we have visitors we make sure to go to Lee's! We absolutely love this donut shop, and my son especially likes the chocolate sprinkle donut. ;)
Long time favorite place to get donuts for my family! Always fresh and the owner is so incredibly kind and greets you with a smile.
