Lafeens Family Pride Donuts and Ice Cream

Lafeens Family Pride Donuts and Ice Cream

Reviews Summary

Lafeens Donuts is widely praised as the best donut shop in Bellingham, with many customers calling it a local staple. The donuts are consistently described as fresh, fluffy, and not overly sweet, with standout favorites like blueberry fritters, apple fritters, maple bars, and buttermilk bars. Reviewers highlight the friendly staff, affordable prices, and late-night freshness, especially around 8:30 PM. While most ratings are 5-star, a few note minor issues like melted toppings or occasional artificial flavors. The divey exterior belies the quality inside, and many emphasize supporting this local business over chain alternatives. A rare 1-star critic found them overpriced and low-quality, but this is an outlier among overwhelmingly positive feedback.

Customer Reviews

The donuts are fluffy and not too sweet (I can't speak on the cake donuts, didn't try those). I especially appreciated this on the apple turnover since sometimes you can't taste the apple because of how much sugar there is. There was a good amount of variety left even though we went closer to dinner time, and the employee was quite friendly.

Great local donut shop open late. Went at 8:30 and the apple fritters were still warm, what a treat! The cake donut was also delish. Cash is preferred since they add an extra charge for cards.

Great little local and family owned donut shop. They have a great selection of yeast and cake donuts, and the donuts are huge! Great flavour in their donuts even though they are a little on the sweet side. The old fashioned and maple glazed were two of our favourites. Expect a line and it didn?t move too quickly, but we?ll worth the weight!

UPDATE 11/24/24: Donuts this morning were good, but I was given a lemon filled donut instead of the raspberry filled donut I ordered, which was a bummer. Guess I didn't need the donut anyway ?? LaFeen's Donuts on Electric Avenue is a true treasure for any donut lover in Bellingham. They offer a vast selection of donuts, from the classic glazed to maple bars and more unique, seasonal flavors. Whether you?re craving something simple or adventurous, there?s a donut for everyone. But LaFeen's doesn?t stop t

I'm a chef and my wife is a former pastry chef so trust me when I say these are the best donuts in whatcom county! They take the basics and make them perfect! You won't see foo-foo pastries or donuts, just the basics such as bars, fritters, etc, but they hit them spot on! Texture, balance of sweetness, everything....try them! Try the donut holes!

Preface: I am a donut snob with high standards. Blueberry fritter wasn?t bad- felt a little like artificial blueberry. Boston cream was decent. Cinnamon cake one I didn?t like- whatever kind of cinnamon they use didn?t taste like true cinnamon. I shared them with the fam and they all liked them. I would go to Barbs in ferndale for a fritter next time. The 3 donuts cost me $12

I called them to help me with a stacked ?donut? cake for my boyfriend! They were helpful, patient, kind, and friendly with my nut allergy! ?? I would 1000% recommend. Everything was so delicious and it made my boy?s day so special. Look how CUTE!!! ??

Lafeen?s donuts are delicious whenever you get them, but the fact that Lafeen?s is open until 10:30pm and you can get HOT, FRESH donuts after around 8pm is one of Bellingham?s wonderful secrets. Well, definitely not a secret since there is usually a line! My favorite are the donut holes and glazed donuts when they are hot, but everything is fantastic. I live nearby so I have to really exercise restraint to not go daily.

Like memories of old. This place hasn't changed and it's such a magical thing. Every doughnut is good. The ice cream is good. The staff great. Always a must stop when I'm up there.

Best local donuts in Bellingham! I?ve come here for the last 6 years, and it?s a staple for anyone that visits here! I personally always get the delicious buttermilk bars after a nice walk at Whatcom Fall Park!

Lafeens Donuts are _consistently_ decadent and delicious, but the prices seem a little out of whack especially given the absolute absence of atmosphere, and bare-bones level of service. Staff are never rude, but a single degree of warmth would go a long way for a blueberry fritter that ought to be a buck seventy nine.

Best donuts I've ever had, the blueberry fritters are TO DIE FOR, I'd honestly say anything they make with blueberries (be it in the donut or their glaze) is the best I've ever had. All of their donuts are incredible, and the prices are all really good. 100000/10 best donut place I could ever recommend!

Amongst some of the worst doughnuts I've ever eaten in my 50+ years ! Cheap flavorless dough lacking any texture as well as ridiculously oversweet icings & fillings ! The kind of low quality doughnuts you'd find at a gas station or average grocery store bakery at an absurd and ridiculously overpriced $4.00 a doughnut !! Charging $4.00 for a .75 cent doughnut is disgusting and it's obviously all about the profit not about the pride !

$16 for 6 donuts is absurd. The donuts are average too. I only selected 5 donuts but she gave me 6 and charged me for all 6, I didn?t realize it until I got home and opened the box. I was given a chocolate donut, but I don?t like chocolate, so it?s a waste. I think the hype surrounding this place comes from Bellingham not really having other donut options.

It may not look like much from the outside but their donuts are GREAT. This place came recommended so stopped by around 10pm on a Sunday. Even though it was almost closing time they had plenty of donuts and the donuts were still fresh. That means they must bake donuts all throughout the day. They have a large selection of donuts. If you like donuts I certainly suggest you stop by.

Lafeens donuts are that of fabled Bellingham lore. Don?t let the divey exterior fool you, this is the best donut shop (and cheapest) north of Seattle. Their old fashioned glazed are my favorite but occasionally I?ll get a little wild and go for a cinnamon twist or Apple fritter. Quick tip: if you want piping hot donut holes to give meaning to your otherwise meaningless existence, pop in there around 8:30 pm when they?re coming out of the oven. You?ll thank me later.

Always a delightful experience, always an amazing donut. This has been my favorite establishment in Whatcom Co since we moved here in 2015, and now I get to bring my kiddo here. I love this place. I wish I could recommend a favorite donut but everything I've had has been amazing. Don't miss the donut holes, especially if you happen to come by when they're still warm from the kitchen!

I am a bit of an apple fritter expert. They have top notch critters and the raised donuts are great too. I was in town for a meeting but will be back to try other donuts.

Dropped by Lafeens after hearing good things and went for an apple fritter. It struck the right balance of apple, cinnamon, and icing without being overcooked?a common issue I?ve found with fritters. The person working was friendly and helpful. Included a pic of the donut for scale.

best donuts in bellingham! wide variety and always have them fresh. service is always great and prices are cheap! can?t get any better??

Family run, classic donut shop. A convenient stop for a snack heading towards Lake Whatcom.

Been here over 12 years and finally had to try. Wish I would have gone earlier. Excellent donuts !

Hands down the best donuts in Whatcom County. Lives up to the hype. The blueberry and apple fritters are really really good.

The donuts are ok, but the prices are ridiculous! I got four donuts, and paid over $14 for them. Than there's an added 3% charge if you're paying with a card. I guess when you're the only donut place left in town, you jack the prices up.

I only came for the amazingly delicious APPLE FRITTERS!!! I was lucky enough to arrive just as they?d placed out a fresh tray and can?t race enough have yummy it was!

Really strange interaction when I was in Lafeen?s with my daughter. Decided to eat our donuts in there. A man walked out demanding donuts and was extremely disrespectful to the female employee who was working there. He toward over and threw a bunch of insults at her. He was really loud. Claimed he had some kind of store credit and proceeded to fill up a box of donuts and walk out. He had a pony tail. I?m not sure his relationship to the woman or Lafeen?s but he was an absolute bully. While I like Lafeen?s I

I am shook by how incredible these donuts are. The raspberry bear claw was what brought me there in the first place (I tried my friend?s) and I also ordered a maple buttermilk bar, apple fritter and raspberry fritter. The buttermilk maple bar had me boggled at how it could be such perfect texture with almost a crunch on the outside, but so perfectly moist and incredible flavor. But the FRITTER, holy cow!!!! The raspberry fritter is like nothing I?ve ever encountered before. Soft, chewy, crunchy; mild raspbe

Terrible customer service. Owner will not hire more than 1 person to service the very busy Sat-Sun morning high traffic. Wait line is ridiculous. 1 person working is overworked trying to help so many customers. Is owner so greedy for profit, and arrogant about the donuts, that he sacrifices good customer service that would actually bring him more business?? Donuts are good, but not the best I?ve had. Not a fan.

Best donuts in Bellingham, hands down. I love going here on my way through Whatcom Falls park.

Great ice cream! We stopped by and I had a donut and got some ice cream for the kids. They were very nice and helped us out with great service. I would definitely recommend stopping here

THE place to go for donuts! Always friendly. Always fresh. They've got the donut flavor that you crave. Don't you dare grab a dozen of those grocery store "donuts" when Lafeens is an option.

A real, honest donut shop with fresh, delicious offerings and a great family business atmosphere. As a lover of good donuts, this place is well worth the drive from Canada, and the lineup at the door. The staff are friendly folks serving up the huge donuts and fresh coffee. I will definitely make the drive across the border again.

When moving to a new place, one of the first things you need to do is go out and find yourself a good donut shop. In my experience, donut shops end up falling into one of three categories. You've got your Chain Stores, a la Krispy Kreme and Dunkin Donuts, offering that sanitized, mass-produced product that doesn't change between locations. Then there's the Gimmick Shops, which is more of a Seattle/west coast sort of thing that tries to stand out by being wacky by putting things on donuts that don't normall

I just recently discovered this place and I?m so happy that I did. My two little boys love donuts and I have been on a search to find great donuts in Bellingham. The donuts are amazing and the staff is so friendly. I completely recommend!

Guys, their fancy doughnuts are out of this world. Please support local businesses like this instead of getting doughnuts at the supermarkets!

Such delicious donuts! At the time we went (lunchtime on a Friday) there was easy parking and we were helped in just a couple of minutes. The worker was very kind and when we asked for recommendations to help us decide, they helped right away by recommending what's most popular. There was seating inside (long booths/picnic benches).

My son's favorite donut stop. You have to go early if you want donut holes.

We had heard some rave reviews about the donuts here at Lafeen?s. Decided we need to stop by and check them out. The raspberry bear claw came highly recommended and it did not disappoint. The chocolate frosted with cream and the lemon filled were a bit average, nothing exceptional. I wish we had gotten one of the maple glazed as that sounds delicious. The girl behind the counter wasn?t particularly helpful or interested in our order and stuffed all three donuts in a little tiny brown bag. Would?ve preferred

It?s fine. The doughnuts are on the greasier side and moderately expensive. Equivalent of a grocery store doughnuts, but man do people love this place.

I've been from east coast to west coast and these are truly some of the best doughnuts anywhere. There is a reason why they've been in business for decades!

Lafeens is pretty much the go-to place for donuts in Whatcom County. If you don't live nearby, it's worth a drive. I haven't hit them at the right times lately as they were just about sold out, but that's a good sign. I opted for a brownie this last time and it was as good as I anticipated it would be, of course! If you ask locals where to go for a good donut, Lafeens will either be the only recommendation or top of the list. I usually start with a basic glazed donut when I try a new place, but everything I

A couple of picnic style tables inside you can sit to eat, but it was a bit chilly inside. The clerk/cashier was very friendly. We got a Cinnamon swirl with maple frosting, a raspberry filled bear claw, and an old fashioned with maple frosting. They were all delicious. Good thing we live 30 minutes away because otherwise I would be there every morning!

Been going there since I was like 4 years old with my dad and brother. Still as good as it was 14 years ago!

If your want a whole thanks giving meal in one sandwich this is the place hands down the best

Kind owner. Great service of free donut. Old fashion was really good!!

Very happy and friendly. The donuts are incredible and can't get any fresher. This definitely a place to go out of your way if you're looking for donuts and personally out Krispy cream donuts back in the bench. Prices are fair as well.

Best doughnuts ever! You won?t be disappointed in these treats with so many flavors to choose from. They maybe a bit pricey for individual items but it is worth it - the quality and portion size of each item correlate well with their prices :)

They are really good donuts but both times I went it was hot and the donuts were not packed correctly. When I got home the maple was melted all over the chocolate and the chocolate was melted all over the glaze ??

Rustic about five minutes off I-5. Been here quite a few times love their buttermilk donuts and huge fritter donuts. They have a large selection The fellow doing the serving is friendly as all get out. Really like this place for good old fashion style donuts!

Best donuts in Bellingham. We moved and were back visiting recently, we had to make a stop. All of their donuts are good, the blueberry cake is hands down the best. Never stop making it!

Went here this morning on a bike ride and I gotta say - amazing donuts and all the employees are super nice. Employee made my day today. Perfect way to start off the morning. Easy 5 stars!

Love taking my family here. Wish it was a bit cleaner and organized

We have visited Lafeen's multiple times and unfortunately the last 2 times have been less than good. Our latest visit was on Feb 3, 2024 at 5:45pm and there was no selection of donuts, no donut holes, 4 brownies that were gone before we left. We asked if they were making anything else and they said no. By the time we left at approximately 6:10pm there was only long johns left. We left ordering the last buttermilk bar, 1 brownie and 1 Bismarck that was actually a Boston cream. They were all thrown in a sing

Nest doughnuts in Bellingham . At 8pm, fresh ones roll out. Also had some white chocolate raspberry ice cream that was to die for. Service was great and came with a contagious smile.

The BEST donuts, hands down! Line gets long quickly, and supplies don't last. Made fresh each day. Locally owned for many, many years. Supports local schools and activity programs, too. Love this place. Fresh Donut Holes!! ??

Good and tasty donuts and staff is friendly.

After making do with store bought or chain bought donuts it was really nice to get donuts from a real/classic donut shop. I got an old fashioned and my daughter got a chocolate glazed old fashioned. It was around mid-afternoon so they weren't the freshest donuts, but they still had a great flavor and texture (good crust with soft moist cake inside). It's probably good that we don't live nearby or we'd be visiting way too often.

Amazing hole in the wall donut shop. They were delicious, my family got: custard filled chocolate, raspberry filled, sugar cake, and blueberry cake. We really enjoyed them.

I paid over 8 bucks for 2 doughnuts that I had to throw out because they were so greasy from not being cooked right. Gone down hill big time over the 43 years I've been shopping there. After lafeens sold it to the Asians it went south fast changing sizes to half size over 4xs the price hike. I'll pass.

Had coffee, donut holes and a kruller. So great. Perfectly soft and moist, not overly sweet, not at all greasy. Great coffee, friendly staff.

Amazing donuts! The man here is so happy and talks to you, which matches great with some delicious doughnuts! Head there at night for some fresh ones!

First time and it was wonderful! Donuts fresh and delicious with an amazing selection. Ice cream selection was really good. This will be a favorite for us!!

Best apple fritter ever. Not the nicest looking place, not the cleanest but let's be honest. If you are looking for a great donut come here. Buttermilk bars are large and delicious

Delicious donuts, yummy ice cream and excellent service

Lafeens is the place to go for donuts in bham!!! delish and fresh throughout the day even have fresh donuts coming out at 10pm!! Everything is fair priced too??

We love love love this place. We moved to Bellingham a few years ago and heard about the donuts here and are happy we found them! They offer many types of donuts, My husband loves old fashions and I love chocolate with sprinkles. Just be prepared you might encounter a long line, so check the time of day you go. We've also learned that at 9:30 p.m. they have fresh donuts made and we will occasionally make a late night run to get some delicious fresh donuts that is well worth it!

Good donuts, great hours of operation. Cleanliness/appearance of the building leaves something to be desired. Will continue to patronize, hope for a little TLC down the road to take this place from "good," to "Best traditional donut shop in town." Again, the quality of their donuts is excellent.

Stop here in the evening for a buttermilk bar fresh out of the oven ??and you won?t regret it. Very classic donut shop without the frills - great flavors!

Great little family donut and coffee shop !

This hole in wall has been around forever! The doughnuts are the tastiest, nice for special occasions or just any ol' day. Stop in and give them a try. They have ice cream too!

This place does not play. Name one thing this place doesn?t deliver on, I dare you. Donuts? You bet. Ice Cream? Of course. Other stuff I haven?t ordered but is probably great? Yup.

The best donuts in Bellingham. So good, lots of variety, and reasonably priced. Prepare to wait in line on the weekends, it's worth going early when they're fresh & crispy. The folks behind the counter are super friendly! I don't have any photos to post because the donuts never last long enough to take a picture ??

Picked up a selection of donuts. Not great results across the board. Chocolate glaze was not flavorful. Dough was soft but nothing special or interesting. Pink glazed donut was chemical-ly tasting (bubblegum mixed with cedar??). Old fashioned style was soft, not crispy like what one would expect. Unfortunately, the price is quite high for avg or below avg donuts. Staff were friendly.

The donuts here are very low in price, and hand made fresh every single morning and throughout the day! The ice cream is also great, thought it is not clear whether or not they make it. But the food is simply superb. Many different kinds of donuts and ice creams to choose from, and mix! The staff are also very friendly and welcoming.

Go at 9-11 pm for the fresh doughnuts. Or be there right when they open. They have ice cream too, not much to look for in coffee, but doughnuts are all you really need.

We drove about 20 minutes from our hotel to check this place out. We are glad we did. A lot of donuts, fritters, and turnovers. We had 2 filled donuts and one fritter. We really enjoyed the cream filled donut and lemon filled donut. They are fluffy, not too sweet and hit the spot. However, the fritter we had was just fine, a bit on the sweater side for our taste but still pretty good.

I love going to Lafeens. Despite their out of the way location, their long hours make them very accessible. The donuts are always fresh but they are often sold out of different things. I haven't tried their ice cream. Drip coffee is classic diner style you'd expect to get with a donut. They have some really cool merchandise! I think the prices are very fair, especially for a ma and pop store. They have cruellers (spelling?) which are my favorite donut and are hard to come by. I've never had a bad experience

When your lady requests donuts, you do-nut say no. We asked around about donut shops throughout town and learned about this spot. They have an amazing spread of choices to please anyone in the family. I?ve had donuts when after eating, they kinda feel heavy sitting in your stomach. There is a weird film in your mouth from the grease they were fried in - not this place. I have not had a bad donut from this store at all. Staff has been great each time we?ve been here. We usually snag a half a dozen for the

Love coming here for donuts, especially the maple bars and apple or blueberry fritters! We usually come an an hour or 2 before closing just as there making another fresh batch, so good and the kids love it!

It's a great shop! It looks a little bit basic but it's kinda cute! The doughnuts are super and they have some smaller ones if you just want a bite. They're super soft on the inside and a bit crispy on the outside. The coffee machine looks a little old but the lattes are actually quite good!

Fantastic donuts. This is a cool place and they're good at what they do. Taking one star off for prices. Lol

Without a doubt, this is the best place to get a donut in Bellingham. They bake them fresh every couple of hours and they're open until like 11pm at night. Family owned business and everyone is really friendly. They have interesting options too like chocolate/maple dipped cinnamon rolls. I'm getting hungry just writing this review.

This is a good place to go if you are wanting some donuts here in bellingham as it is pretty much the only donut place here in bellingham. Now with all that said, the donuts here are great and are just fine for if you are craving donuts. Lafeens also serves ice cream, and the ice cream is nothing special. If you are expecting parlor quality ice cream you are better off somewhere else (such as mallards) but if you are just wanting a quick cone, their ice cream is perfectly fine.

Delicious! I came to this donut shop on a whim. The cabinet was empty but I was told that there were some fresh old fashioned, chocolate and Maple glazed that were still warm coming out. I chose the old fashioned. It was warm, with a delicate center and a slight crispy edge! It was warm, sticky and delicious! I should of taken a picture but I ate it too fast! I will be back!

I just had the flakiest crust, the softest and butteriest donut, and the best cream cheese turnover I?ve ever had. 10 stars out of 5. Staff is great, food is even better.

It is an older building, and looks a little worn. The doughnuts were pretty good, we came in the evening so they would probably be even better earlier in the day. The service at that time was not very good. The person at the counter wasn't friendly and barely spoke. It is the type of place that is well known by the neighborhood.

Really good coffee and spectacular donuts served by people who care. They ask only one family at a time in their shop due to COVID-19 restrictions, which made us feel all the better visiting their shop! They're very considerate, and from looking at their bulletin board they seem to be very community minded! They are pinned on our map so we can find them again!

If you?re looking for a wide variety of donuts, you found the place. If you?re looking for that variety to be amazing, then you found the wrong place. Lack of flavor and frosting on all their donuts. Maple bar might as well be just a bar. Nasty run down makes you wonder what kind of critters are in the back. Hard pass.
