?A Fun and Delicious Destination!? Kimmel Orchard & Vineyard is a delightful place for family fun and local flavors. The atmosphere is playful, as you can tell from the whimsical apple-themed photo spots, which are great for making memories. The orchard offers an excellent variety of fresh produce, especially apples, and their homemade cider is a must-try! The vineyard adds a lovely local touch, and the combination of nature, fun activities, and delicious products makes it a perfect spot for a day trip. Whe
We found this orchard through Harvest Host and we are very happy we visited. The staff were great as was the store. We really enjoyed their wine tasting and shopping in the store. They had a large variety of items to purchase. The grounds were amazing and educational. If in the area, we would definitely visit again.
This place is a really fun place to go. The ambiance is that of an early 1900s farmhouse feel. The staff are knowledgeable on their products and are friendly people. They sell a wide variety of products: apples, jams, pies, ciders, their own wines, honey, short order foods, and other baked goods. The prices are reasonable as well, which is a good thing. They also support the military and give the military a discount. They have an educational center which hosts various classes from honey production to appl
It is a nice, quiet location. We stayed in our van at the location as part of the Harvest Hosts program. There was only one other RV at the site during out stay. There was plenty of room for even a couple more. We parked in the gravel parking strip on the east side of the property. It was fairly level for our van, but it took a couple of tries to find the perfect spot. This location would likely be ideal for families with kids with the nearby playground facilities. Nebraska City is a real treat. We
We stopped by Kimmel Orchard on the way back home from visiting family. They have a variety of salsas, different butters, and sweet desserts to choose from. My toddler played on the playground in the back and she loved it! It's clean and very well kept. The 2 playgrounds are great for a variety of ages, plus the bench swing is a nice touch. The orchard is scenic and I look forward to coming back again for a festival event.
We stayed here for a Harvest Host location and it worked out perfectly. The store is fantastic so much to choose from , we purchased the Apple Doughnuts, Cider, Apple butter and frozen cherries, they also offer military discount which is always nice. The reason for the 4 instead of 5 is there was noone available that we could see for the Wine tasting , so we didn't get any Wine , and the Restaurant was not open . But this was a great place . Thank you PJV
We stayed here as harvest host guests for one night. Although we got in super late we slept well. Our kids loved the play area and the food in the store to purchase is a large selection. We bought apple cider, carmel apple cookies, apple donuts, apple rum butter, apple butter, and a 5lb bag of apples. Sad that the u-pick is only open on the weekends and the educational center was not as hands on as I would have hoped. We still enjoyed our time and next time we'll have to come back on a weekend.
Awesome place. Awesome staff. We were there for cherry picking today and absolutely loved it. Cherries were full blown and it was lot of fun picking them up. Took the hay ride that took us round the orchard to understand more and we saw plants like cherries, apples, pears, peaches, grapes, pumpkin. The store was full of items and we bought several of them. There is a play ground for kids too. I only wish there is a guided hayride so it is easy to understand the place a bit more.
This is a great stop. They have some unique products for sell; dressings, jams, jellies, wines, apple oatmeal cookies, apple cider and especially apple cake donuts. The grounds provide for some family fun as well; hikes, nature playground, hay ride, and an amazing playground.
Very cool orchard and vineyard which has absolutely delicious drinks, spices and snacks ! They have a great wine tasting area and really good nonalcoholic slushies. I tried the apple one and it's delicious. We always stop here to get spices and BBQ sauces, they last us a while and they are jam packed full of flavor. This place is pretty big, we came just before closing on a Thursday so we missed the restaurant being open sadly.
Our family loves Kimmel Orchard. We visit several times during the year. They have apples, strawberries, cherries, peaches, and more to pick during their respective seasons. In the Fall we love their apple donuts and cider. They also have wine tasting and a small cafe. Our kids love their new apple orchard themed playground. There is also a traditional hay rack ride. It can get very busy on weekends, especially on the Applejack Festival weekend, but it is a great family activity spot.
The Apple Jack Festival is a great time to visit but I think they're open all year! Get some apple donuts, cider, dutch apple pie, and of course, pick some apples right off the tree! Do the hayrack ride, you can get dropped off (and picked up) in different parts of the orchard.
We come here every year for the Apple Jack festival. It's the perfect place, they have live music, apple doughnuts, ciders, and educational area and place place for kiddos. They do offer more than just apples to pick, they have berries, peaches and pumpkins when in season and a hayrack ride around the whole orchard. Best apples I've ever had!
Very neat place to go. Lots of things to do and pick. We stopped off season before the apples were ready. Had a nice time looking around Very well cared for
No apples this year. All very disappointing. You must pay to even look at the apples. And huge lines for apple doughnuts and apple cider.
Wide variety of fruits. Hay truck will take you to the location which you have to pick and view. We took Asian Pears, Honey crisp apples and it was soo good. Nice time we had and they were kids area where your kids can play for sometime which made them happy too...
Amazing park and educational builds the markets food was fantastic. The apples were to me over priced
Had a great time place is super cool. Definitely a great place for families to spend some time. Very kid friendly. Lots of stuff left even after the apple jack festival. Take your time and enjoy yourself.
We did not go during apple season but it was cherry and strawberry time. Large varieties of wines, salad dressings, salsas, BBQ sauce, jams, cider, pastries, honey and pickled veggies and cider. Restaurant and wine tasting as well. We purchased fresh picked strawberries and frozen cherries. The apple cider slushie hit the spot on a warm day. Is a bit pricey but to be expected. Sauces, dressings, pickled veggies $8.95. Doz donuts $15. They do have what appeared to be a little playground. Would recommend.
Fall and apple orchards go together. Kimmel's provides a great experience. Friday noon was a very manageable crowd. I can imagine weekends to be very congested, but still enjoyable. Highly recommend this working orchard.
Fun place to visit. Playgrounds for the kids, beautiful views, and a shop filled with produce and local products as well as a cafe.
10/24 They still have lots of apples left. We got Everctisp, which is a cross between Fuji and Honeycrisp. Delicious! Beautiful setting. Nice staff.
Great apples and beautiful place to get outside. It?s a huge place, so it never felt crowded out in the orchard. Price was $5 admission plus per-pound charge for your apples. Rows are all labeled. The playground was pretty big and modern. Parking was a bit of a mess with rows of cars facing different directions. Overall, we loved it and have some sweet apples and fun memories with kids!
Great stop for harvest host. Spend the night at the orchard in your RV, then go apple picking in the morning
Beautiful orchard! We visited this past weekend. It was not too busy, staff was friendly. Beautiful grounds and information. Wine tasting inside the shop and lots of local items. The apples are delicious and big pumpkins to choose from. Great photo opportunities as well as playing areas for little ones. Loved how all the landscaping was marked so you could see what each plant was!
Went here the weekend after their big applejack festival weekend and it was very nice if you dont like big crowds. Apple donuts are hot and fresh....oh, and delicious!! We also tried the caramel apple oatmeal cookies which are also delicious and amazing!! Fantastic place to visit with kids. Nice play area for them and seating for you to keep an eye on them. Friendly and polite staff. Go check it out while the weather is nice.
Very clean and well kept operation, way to overpriced though. One trip here will be enough for my lifetime!
Great place to get out into the country, from Omaha (30-60 minutes depending on part of town you're driving from), and enjoy the fresh air. Absolutely love their Apple Donuts. Seriously, I don't know what they put in them, but they never disappoint! Excellent wine selection you can sample before buying! Friendly staff, and great selection of locally made foods!
Very good sized apples to pick! They have a tractor that takes you to the orchard so you don't have to walk as far. You do have to pay to pick the apples, and for the apples. The store has so many unique options to buy such as donuts, cider, wine tasting, salsas, pickles, dipping sauces, etc.
I used to love this place, but they changed so much. I think they took away the experience and fun of picking apples for me, especially charging for ?U-Pick admission? just to see their apple trees. They charged too much for their prices, more expensive than Walmart. I personally don?t care much for picking the apples from this place.
We stopped by Sunday afternoon and really enjoyed the store. Lots of different products and a great atmosphere. The apples we bought are delicious and the hard cider I had was terrific. It is a two hour drive for us, but we will be going back.
Amazing place!! We had a full day of family fun! The orchards are gorgeous, VERY friendly staff/volunteers and great prices! We were pleasantly surprised at how many vendors were there and how affordable everything was! We shopped the huge selection of spices, pies and ciders.....delicious AND affordable! Beautiful place to visit! We will be back! Thank you for the incredible experience!
Nice store with you pick fruit options.
Was in the area and stopped by Kimmel Orchard for the first time in several years. Just missed the apple festival so there wasn't much apple cider left but I got some. As usual it was very good. There is much more here than just apples and apple cider though. There is a large variety of pickled items, jams and jellies, syrups and more. Kimmel is well worth the stop if only to browse the wide variety of items you'll not find anywhere else. NEW: Stopped by during the Apple Jack Festival. Couldn?t figure out
So much fun exploring the orchards and picking apples! They have a great variety and a beautiful place!
We make it a priority to go to Kimmel orchard late summer, early fall for the cherry butter, apple butter and fresh apple cinnamon donuts. Always grab a Carmel apple and a piece of fudge too. A fantastic place to visit. The drive there this time of year is super colorful with the season change. Plan on spending some money. There's too much to chose from. Oh, I forgot the pies and the fresh cider.....I could go on and on......
I am always amazed how much I enjoy this place. It's a bit of a drive, but the Apple Barn shopping experience is totally worth it. I actually bought some F.R.O.G. jelly and it was delicious . Best jams, jellies, salsa, bbq sauce out there. The Blood Orange infused Oil and Pomegranate Vinegar are by far my favorite thing to put out at dinner parties. Great Wine too. Just an overall amazing place with great staff.
If you are visiting Nebraska City, this is a must. The cider donuts are amazing, and I may have ate the best Apple pie I have ever had. There is a huge outdoor play area for the kids, and at harvest time you can pick your own apples. It's a little too crowded during the Apple Jack Festival, but my family is eager to go back soon.
We have been going to Kimmel ever since I was a little kid. Now we take our kids. Every year it has been a pure joy to see how they grow and what new things they've added. Having a covered awning to enjoy delicious apple cider donuts is a must before hitting the orchard for the "U-pick" experience! The kiddos love the orchard themed playground as well as different vendors around the grounds! I'm thankful to say going to Kimmel has, is, and will continue to be a family tradition for many years to come! ??
Was truly disappointed. I was super excited to enjoy the 2021 Apple Jack Festival because I've never been. I was only visiting for a few hours so I spent a week and a half figuring out what were the best places to go. Their Facebook page, Instagram account, and website made it seem like it was such a great family friend business. WHAT A LIE! The staff is extremely rude and unhelpful. All of the amazing things they advertise they'd be selling weren't there. Didn't even see a spot for where they would suppose
Staff is very friendly, but they expect you to pay a fee just to walk into the orchard unlike others in the area, then you still have to pay for the apples which is understandable but silly to have an entrance fee when you're basically doing the work for them. Clean fun playground for the kids, delicious donuts. Cider is insanely pricey. Cheap and decent popcorn though.
The apple donuts are amazing. There will be a nice playground there in the near future. We visited during Nebraska City's Apple Jack festival, so it was very crowded, but we still had a good time. The price to pick apples was a little higher than I would have liked.
My daughter and I drove down on Saturday from Elkhorn NE for the apple jack festival. This was our first stop into Nebraska City. Found it was very pricey. Also had no donuts or cookies. Very disappointed. Can get the same donuts at Hy-Vee for a quarter of the price.
Always a great place to stop we go there every year during AppleJack Festival. It's busy then with everybody in town and so is everywhere. But its fun and everything taste so great apple pies and caramel dip caramel apples and apple cider and hard apple cider. The wine tastings great so you know just exactly which ones you like.
We had a great time! There was live music out front. It was dog friendly except inside the buildings. Amazing turnovers, Cherry juibile, and the hot dogs are killer! Rod had 2! Also good dill pickles! The apples were so Tasty! Great place for family and kids!
Great place to visit and learn. The staff is friendly and knowledgable and always courteous. The reason for the 4 star rating is the prices, the wine is at least 25% higher than you pay for the same wine at the grocery store or other vineyards in the area. Apple prices are good but other fruits are way high. Enjoy the fun they have but shop cautiously.
Cute orchard with lots of activities for the kids! The shop has lots of fresh sauces, salsas, syrups, ciders, etc. The lines tend to get long around the middle of the day on weekends, so I recommend going early or after the lunchtime rush.
The store alone is worth the stop! Excellent selection of home made items. The apple butter is pretty awesome. We stayed with harvest host - very accommodating
Loved it! Can't pick apples due to COVID, but we had a VERY PLEASANT visit regardless! We got several varieties of apples, fresh cider and donuts! The staff was friendly and helpful. We definitely be back! ??????
In the past this has been a great place to go with family. But this experience was not great. The staff were unhelpful and unfriendly, And they were out of some items. They were also quite expensive. They also are not very transparent about when the you-pick is available. The orchard is beautiful, and the playground is great, they have some good things. Just this experience was not great.
Oct 20 and apples picking had already shut down? Also, "fresh, hot" apple donuts has apparently been replaced by "recently baked nearby and delivered mostly warm". And no Hot ?? cider? Still, lovely gardens and orchards to wander around, the UNL extension office is here and has cool programs, and overall the place has a great vibe. Got to eat or donuts and listen to some pretty chill live music. Great fall day.
Great variety of food gifts. Best cider ever. Everything from pickled eggs to syrup. Best saurkraut I ever had. Nice wine tasting station. Friendly and helpful staff. Clean and well organized. Must stop place.
This Orchard use to be AWESOME something that my family has done for years so much to do for the kids and the adults. Went this year 2017 and it has changed drastically in just one year. There was nothing good to do for the kids use to have pony rides not there they had two play grounds that was not even opened I would think with the Apple Jack Festival there they would at least have that open since this festival is ranked in the top ten fall festivals in the nation by USA Today. For a six pound of apples i
Great wine tasting with and experienced and knowledgeable sommelier. He actually explained the tasting process, unlike several others we visited that day. I also loved their wide variety of locally made canned goods, salad dressings and snacks. We will definitely return.
I visited during pumpkin season. Staff was very helpful and friendly, they didn't mind my thousand questions. It rests on a hilltop and has some great views. Apples were amazing and Cherry Cider was beyond delicious.
I have been going to Kimmel Orchard ever since I was little. It has been really great to see it grow and expand over the years. I have not visited their picking area, but their main building where the goods are housed is a pleasant building. Enough space to move around and not feel squished and there are a lot of great food items to choose from. I would recommend this orchard to anyone looking for a good fall activity!
We stopped in to Kimmels to buy some wine and apple cider and saw much more than we expected. It was a very busy place and they had lots of different products they were selling tied in to the apple orchards. It's worth the stop.
We came on the second day of Apple Festival. They have made a lot of significant improvements to increase efficiency but still a lot of challenges. I was not happy that I paid for access to the orchard, which is new, that seemed to already to be picked clean. Hay racks were always full and we ended up hiking back which was a challenge for little ones. Used to feel like a family farm, now its a commercialized attraction.
Great little orchard with lots of wines and goodies to take home with you. Quite a bit of history too. They've added a playground for kids to use while parents shop and allaround good place to play.
Kimmel orchard is a fun family destination. The food is good (mostly baked goods) and the apple juice/ cider is good. There's a great variety of canned fruits and veggies and syrup. There is a new playground, apple tree theme. In autumn there are hayrack rides and you can pick your own apples.
Staff was friendly and very helpful. Even after completing our four wine tastings, she allowed us to sample the cider. Loved the local and wide variety of products sold there.
Regardless of when visiting, this place can?t seem to figure out how to staff or make enough apple donuts or turnovers to keep up with demand. It?s absolutely frustrating to come each year and be told, ?We're sold out but we?ll be making more tomorrow.? Yeah, that?s fantastic but driving 45 min again to try and get donuts is not something I want to try again...
Spent $26 to walk around an orchard filled with trees with rotten or completely worm filled apples. Been coming for 12 years or so and this is the worst experience we have had. Liked it better when you didn't have to pay just to walk around and pick apples, just for the apples you picked. I think we're done with the U-pick experience, just not worth it!
A wonderful orchard with fun for the whole family. The cider and doughnuts are delicious and the playground is great. All the staff members were very helpful and friendly.
This is my second trip here! Great cherry wine! Only place I know of that has it! They also have great cherry preserves that is sweetened with grape juice. I love this place & I hope I get to come back.
I went with the family for the very cherry jubilee. We have come? here every year at various times of harvest usually for apples. We were excited to pick cherries for the first time, for we have wanted to do so for many years but always missed harvest. This year we were on it. We drove down only to find the cherries we're very bitter and flavorless. Sad day to say the least, but I can't take away from the staff and the grounds that are very well kept Im sure we will be back.
Pick your own fruit, taste test wine, homemade pies ready for your oven, bags of popcorn for your popper, specialty Donut's. Family days are especially crowded. All fruits have their special weekend fests when in season.
Worth going...$4 for 4 wine tasting plus a free glass. Apple Pie wine was my favorite. Tons of homemade goodies and homemade jars of anything u could want.
My girlfriend and I had so much fun. We accidentally picked 20 lbs of apples, so be careful to not over do it. Highly recommend going for a fun fall outing
I came for pre-picked peaches and it was very simple to get what I needed!! They have a great country style store as well with all kinds of yummy goodies.
This establishment has really gone down hill. Especially in regards to hospitality. We came to purchase jam and wine just recently, but we're completely offended by the staff's attitude and manner. We normally make it a point to stop at least once or twice a year, but unfortunately will not be returning any time soon after this experience.
Great selection of goods. Very pricey, though. Their homemade apple pie is superb. Carmel apples are wonderful, but $5.00 for a caramel apple seems a bit much.
Staff was busy, but they were nice and welcoming. They weren't overbearing and helped when prompted. Their pie is one of the best in southeastern Nebraska. Highly recommend this place!!!
Closed every weekend in September and into October. September is the citywide Apple Festival, expanded to the whole month because of Covid instead of the traditional weekend-long Applejack Festival. So having one of the flagship apple orchard destinations closed is quite disappointing and very surprising. Kimmel has been around since 1925, so I guess they can take the hit, but I am still shocked. There's still plenty else to do in Nebraska City, especially at the Arbor Day Farm. I just hope Kimmel bounces b
My wife and I drove 60 minutes down from Omaha to pick apples at the Kimmel Orchard. We chose this particular orchard because we'd seen online that it was dog friendly. We called ahead to make sure we could bring our dog and were told he would be allowed everywhere but the buildings. However, we were turned away after a worker at the U-pick gate told us dogs weren't allowed in the apple-picking areas (since dogs aren't allowed in the buildings, this leaves the only dog-friendly area to be the parking lot).
Great place! Love the hayrack ride out into the orchard. Amazing, fresh apple cider and apple doughnuts! Family oriented and friendly staff. One of my favorite places to visit in Nebraska City.
We are the for the honeycrisp festival. Friendly employees at the wine tasting. The brisket was good, but the pulled pork lacked flavor. The live music was a nice touch.
We were disappointed that everything was closed Monday & Tuesday but the grounds were beautiful. Our other issue was that large rv?s cannot turn around It took us 45 minutes to get turned around to leave the parking area. There was some construction going on at the back so hope for future rv?rs can get out easier
drove from Gretna,Ne. for the doughnuts!!!.... every year!
Used to love it at K?mmel Orchard. Recently visited to get some wine and they randomly chared different prices that are not posted. Brought it to their attention didn't care. Sadly I will not return.
Great place to bring the family to pick your own cherries, strawberries, peaches, Asian pears, grapes, and of course...apples! Huge kids play areas, hay rack rides, huge store as well.
We were just going for the wine tasting, but stumbled upon the Apple Jack festival. It was a great time, the wines were pretty good and the cider donuts were great!
Always a good time. We always make sure to go for cherries, peaches, and apples. But they have a lot more. & Their apple spice donuts are my favorite donuts ever!
Good place for family entertainment, includes a playground, and an apple orchard. The gift shop includes a variety of sauces, jellies, apple cider donuts, and wine tasting( variety of wines).
Staff is friendly, new playgrounds will soon be open. A lot of apple's, pies, donuts, and much more goodies to buy. Very family friendly!
Great place for blackberries/apples/peaches/pears. The apple donuts are excellent. Stir fry sauces, cherry and apple cider and frozen cherries! A fruit lovers dream.
It has all the tourists that's for sure and is overpriced now. Go to Mincer's Orchard in Waubonsie across the river. Pure all natural non pasteurized cider
Great time picking cherries! Trees are loaded. We picked 10 lbs. In about 30 mins. Fun activities for the kiddos too.
