Jubelt's Bakery & Restaurant

Jubelt's Bakery & Restaurant

Reviews Summary

Jubelt's Bakery & Restaurant is widely praised for its delicious baked goods, generous portions, and hometown charm. Many highlight the phenomenal bakery items like donuts, cinnamon rolls, and pies, along with hearty breakfast and lunch options such as omelets, burgers, and steak fries. The friendly service and nostalgic Route 66 atmosphere add to its appeal. However, a few reviews note inconsistencies—some meals arrive cold or lack flavor, and service can be slow during busy times. While most experiences are overwhelmingly positive, occasional disappointments with food quality or wait times are mentioned. Overall, it's a beloved spot with standout bakery offerings and classic diner fare.

We ordered mini pies and gooey butter cake for our event?they let us choose the sizes and flavors, and everything was ready on time. So delicious and a big hit! Loved getting to serve some local favorites.

Overall great stop on the way from central il to mo. You walk in and claim your table. Order at counter. Bakery and large menu to choose from. Hubs got an omelet came with hash browns and 2 biscuits. He had black coffee. I had the cinnamon roll french toast bacon and 2 eggs. Could have been faster and hotter. I'm not picky but my eggs were cold. Overall yummy and would stop again. Ambiance typical greasy spoon a little dirty with a wobbly table freezing cold ac and scrunched sitting area.

Service was friendly but slow. They didn't have their famous coffee cakes so that was a bad start and the pastries we did get weren't great. The cone thing had no flavor, the puff pastry was dry and the cinnamon roll tasted stale. Disappointing as always liked to go here when back in town.

We were hungry & our food was SO good! Chicken was crispy, fries were hot... We were too full for dessert but the bakery items looked delicious.

Stopped here for a late lunch. You walk in and pick your own table. You look over the menu and head up to the counter and place your order. Then they deliver it to your table when it's ready. I had the chicken, bacon, ranch roll up with fries. It was very good. My husband was happy with his meal and really enjoyed the carrot cake. The staff was all friendly and helpful. We would stop here again if we are ever in the region again.

Great little place. No wait for table at 0830. Food took less than ten minutes to come out. Coffee is hot and good. Bacon nice and crispy. Omelet was top notch. Lots of parking. Friendly staff.

I ordered a horse shoe, charged 17 dollars, for one chicken breast patty, approximately 10 very unappealing fries and disgusting cheese sauce. I will NEVER return.

Staff are very unprofessional and don?t take accountability for their rudeness. The food is plain and greasy. I?m a local and won?t ever be going back. Manager responded to me saying the girl was sick that day and other excuses. She said other people heard the conversation. What all of those people failed to do was listen to my side, as the customer. I am being taken like I was mad about the wait time when I was not mad at all. I understand the food takes a long time, I have been there before. That was not

Historic restaurant and bakery on Rt 66. I had veggie scramble, vanilla latte and old fashioned donut. Really good donuts.

We thought we would try Jubelt's Bakery & Restaurant since they are on the old Route 66 which I adore. The food was pretty good. We really liked the steak fries. When you place your order and pay at the counter, they'll ask for your table number, so be sure to have that in mind before you order. Make the table is unoccupied! Their bakery case will filled with amazing pastries and desserts, we didn't try any of them. In May 1922, three brothers?Paul, Fred, and Albert Jubelt?purchased a bakery in the coal mi

Had breakfast here 5-2-25 and should have had the hotel free breakfast. I ordered the breakfast horseshoe and wife had breakfast burrito. Warm at best not what you would expect coming right from the kitchen. Definitely not what it used to be. Wife has been here for the last 30 years and it has definitely went down hill. The doughnuts were not even that fresh. Won?t be back.

Lived in this area for most of my life yet this is my First time here, and I have to say I love this place!! I?ll definitely be back!!

A charming, nostalgic bakery and restaurant with ample parking and friendly staff. The prices are reasonable, and it's conveniently located right off the interstate. The historic photos, buttons, and outdoor dining area add to its appeal. The shaded parking for cars and umbrellas for guests are great touches. This spot is perfect for anyone seeking a hometown bakery and restaurant experience.

We drive an hour to go to Jubelt's, it's so good! Full bakery items available throughout the day, but the most popular items sell out. TEA COOKIES!! Small shortbread-like cookies with a thumbprint of icing and sprinkles around the edges. Get a dozen! Large variety of breakfast and lunch sandwiches that are amazing. They switch to lunch at 11:00. Very good brewed iced tea! They also sell whole loaves of bread and various pies. They have a freezer case with quarts of homemade soup, casserole dishes of Mac and

Definitely a great place to stop while traveling. All of the food was tasty, but also reasonably priced. Food was made to order but still arrived quickly. I was able to pull right off of interstate, grab a quick, tasty, affordable meal and jump back on the road in 20 minutes. The only suggestion I would offer is that the bathrooms are small and only one person at a time. They were clean though. Probably I would call this place perfect.

Atmosphere was great and there seemed to be a lot of history there Our entire order came out luke warm at best. Plenty of workers there and only 3 tables dining. I think they just forgot to bring the food to the table once it was cooked. Cold fries and burgers, Luke warn mozzarella sticks

Best Bakery & Restaurant in Litchfield. I always stop before work at The Lighthouse Antique Mall to get pastries and a breakfast sandwich. It's right off the highway about 2 blocks, so easy access and nice to support a locally-owned family business. The pastries are delicious along with great breakfast options for takeout or dine inside. Staff is always friendly, and bakery selection has a great variety of choices. Stop in and check them out. You won't be sorry!

This will be a short review because in a nutshell, you just need to eat here; no excuses. I ordered french toast and an egg White omelette. I ordered on the phone and they told me they did not have egg whites, but they had cholesterol free eggs. So I went with it and picked up my order. I went inside and the staff was extremely friendly; the atmosphere was very Hometown. The hashbrowns are phenomenal and the biscuits are some of the best I've ever tasted. Hands-down one of the best home cooked

Stopped in here for the first time on a weekday with a small group; we were all thoroughly pleased. The menu was extensive, had great value, and the service was quick. I got the French toast combo and it was easily the best french toast I've ever had. I will definitely stop back here for breakfast again.

The food was just OK. Buiscuts were good, cheesey breakfast potatoes were good, everything else was meh or awful. Way too much salt in all the things, two of our 4 orders weren't "as ordered", $0.90 each for a big plastic cup of water. The manager needs to be trained, and the entire wait staff needs to be retrained. The restaurant needs to be completely cleaned from top to bottom, and a hazmat team is needed to remove the black mold from the ceilings. Even the toys in the coin-op vending machine were a dis

Excellent restaurant with an interesting business model. It?s not full service, but it?s certainly streamlined. We walked in found a table and got in a long line (Sunday morning). In no time at all we had placed orders and food came out. I expected a decent wait and even considered going elsewhere, but I?m glad I stayed. Food is always consistent here. Just try to make sure you get everything you need when you order or else you may have to wait in line again (if it?s busy). The bakery is also impressi

Was so looking forward to trying this place. Huge disappointment. Disorganized. Charged us for two lunches, only received one. Wanted us to wait another 25 minutes. The meal that we did receive arrived cold as were the French fries.

Multiple tables were dirty, they picked up the dishes, but couldn't find time to wipe them down. The food was very good. The flies were abundant. On the way out a worker looked right at us and she couldn't muster up a, "thanks for coming." Yep, 30 cents for water, ice, cup, lid, and straw combo. Not sure why this place is contributing to plastic waste, get real cups or paper. The replies from the owner are embarrassing, very unlike Midwest hospitality.

Delicious breakfast, lunch, and bakery items at affordable price points and quickly served. My favourites were the Kitchen Sink Omelette and Cinnamon Roll French Toast which is a cinnamon roll cut in half and then prepared like french toast. I was salivating from the smell alone. The Napoleon cake from the bakery is also a must have. Only oddity is that ice water costs 30? a cup. Great place to eat on Route 66.

Fun, cute, quaint & worth the stop. The building is so fun inside, it's like stepping back in time and the goodies are amazing. We started with an Old Fashion donut & for my old fashion longing friends out there you know there are good ones & there are bad ones. These were spectacular; so dense & moist. To pair perfectly with it, fresh coffee with unlimited refills. Then our omelets came. Perfect filling to cheese ratio and the sausage was tremendous! The seasoning was spectacular. Their omelets come with 2

We enjoy coming here for breakfast. My daughter is a big fan of their donuts and cookies!

Absolutely great bakery and restaurant. I?ve never had a bad meal. Breaded tenderloin sandwich is to die for. I?m a fan for life.

When we entered the building there was no other customers. None of the three employees at the front didn't even great us. We placed our order for a Cali melt and fries and there super horseshoe. The Cali melt was dry barley and thousand islands and it. The horseshoe was very bland. The cheese sauce didn't have any flavor at all. The onion rings on top where over cooked. The burger patties was so over cooked that the fork started to bend when trying to cut them . Even when trying to cut them with the butter

Wonderful place! Went for a work lunch and could not have been happier. Food was delicious, pastries look, smell, and taste great! Will definitely go back when I pass through again.

Unable to rate the food because by the time I received it , it was cold and I couldn?t eat it. Nevertheless, I was promptly given an apology and a refund (bc I didn?t have time to wait for a fresh plate). The customer service is outstanding and seems this instance was an anomaly. The bakery was very appealing, but my waistline won?t allow me to indulge- still, very tempting. If you find yourself hungry while driving along I-55 south of Springfield, IL- give Jublet?s a try.

First time eating at Jubelts in Litchfield, IL. Nice little diner and bakery. You pick a seat, order at the counter, you sit, and they bring your food to you. Good food, clean diner, friendly staff. Bakery items looked delicious. Unfortunately, we didn't have any. Would recommend eating at Jubelts Bakery & Restaurant.

I've been coming to this amazing bakery for over 40 years, and it continues to amaze me. The menu is abundant as are the servings. The food is freshly made and inexpensive. Definitely worth the extra couple of minutes. PS you can order online!

Drive 200 miles to eat here, it ought to be good! And it is! Service from the CSRs pretty good also! 4.29. Bakery outstanding too! Get the Apricot Danish, the various muffins, and the Cin-Rolls! Heck, you may as well get two or five 'bismarks' to go! FIN Burger & steak fries (which you cannot get many places anymore) DELISH! Omg! The bakery items! Mmmm mmmm great! I don't eat bread regularly & I'm stuffing my face WITH BREAD! TRY THE OMLETS! TRY THE OMLETS! TRY THE OMLETS! Soups are delicious and m

Amazing restaurant. Affordable prices, especially their bakery goods. Incredible Pork Tenderlion sandwich and delicious vegetable soup. Staff was very friendly and the restaurant was so nice inside and out. Highly recommend going here if you are nearby.

I stopped here with my family after a day of shopping in St. Louis, MO. We were picking up some bakery treats. Great selection even for this time of night, around 5:30pm. Took a few minutes for the four of us to decide and make our selection. Sales person really nice and I have to say somewhat truthful (haha) when I asked about the coffee. He said I don't like it but some people do. Well he was right. It was like drinking hot water with a touch of weak coffee. Not good since I like a cup of good bold coffee

Classic bakery and sandwich shop You will find locals hanging out at this Route 66 must stop.

Over priced small serving. Poor quality considering what they charge. I ordered a horseshoe and received 1 small piece of chicken and maybe 10 fries for $18.

Their wheat bread is so good! Plus their cherry limeade, patty melt and fries were quite tasty. I really enjoyed being in a business that has been around since 1922.

We got some really good sandwiches from this place. The pastries looked very delicious.

Reviews sounded great so stopped in with the kids on the way to Springfield, so glad we did. It's an extensive, nicely priced menu and specials. Service sort of old school style. Fun decorations and updated basic decor. Easy parking. Food was good eating in, bakery items were what drove this 5. Combo 4star eatery 5+star bakery. Carmel apple cheesecake bar. What.

No table service, so that takes some getting used to. Pancakes are phenomenal, but they really ought to be served on a round plate. Trying to pour syrup on this stack was just asking for trouble.

Diabetic nightmare but the best tasting food I have had anywhere up here so far. Try the Hungarian Cheesecake ?? unless you're diabetic of course....

Longstanding diner situated between St. Louis MO and Springfield Illinois in Litchfield. Great eggs, sausage & hash browns. Breakfast gravy was a little bland for my taste.

Best food in this small town daily food specials looks good.

Absolutely excellent and very popular with the locals. Went three times in 5 days for breakfast. Only gripe would be cook the hash browns a little more but .....also delicious cookies and baked goods.

If you are zooming down HWY 55 through Litchfield, definitely stop in for a pastry or lunch or both. We had burgers and they were good.

What an absolute gem right on Historic Route 66. I had the Ultimate Horseshoe (shared) and a French Toast sandwich. Absolutely delicious! Plus a classic Cream Soda that was fantastic. The prices are very reasonable, making this place a great value!

I have had Jubelt's when on travels to and from Springfield. Good, tasty food, regardless of meal.

We saw billboards down the road for Jubelt's and decided to stop in for lunch and it was a good decision. Everything looked good, the bakery goods looked delicious. I had the Ranch burger with creamy cheese, ranch dressing and onions rings on the burger, so good.

I had the potato soup with a chicken salad sandwich. Unsweet tea. Always fresh, with hot soup. It took 10 minutes for the soup to cool enough to eat, so dip the bread as you wait. So great on a chilly day. I had a cheese danish with coffee. Nice drive, for a little ride. Highly recommend breakfast there too.

Bakery is very good. Lunch was ok. All american breakfast crossiant sandwhich was large. Typical diner food. Stop for the Rt 66 history.

This is a nice, folksy place to grab a bite to eat. You seat yourself, make note of your table number, then go to the counter and order. Then a server brings your order to your table. The food is pretty good, and you can't miss with any of the breakfast options. I do feel like there are a lot of up-charges for things that most other places would just give you. The bakery portion is quite good. There were a lot of baked treats to choose from and we had a hard time choosing because they all looked so good.

10-9-24 It's ok. Ordered the Kitchen Sink omelette. Not much good to say about it other than the biscuits which were great. The omelette was very bland. The ingredients were fresh but just had no flavor. I did not ask for it to be remade as I was on a time crunch and I was very hungry so I just covered it with some hot sauce packets (no Tabasco?) that they provided and filled my stomach. I'm sure it depends on the cook but unfortunately this experience wasn't a good first impression. School your cooks! The

Such nice people. We had a big catering order and they had it all ready to go, right on time.

Exquisite bakery. Stopped for lunch while driving to Des Moines. I had a 4 cheese bacon grilled cheese, and my husband had a single patty supershoe. Add 3 pastries to go, $24, without tip. Service is very good also.

We took a little drive to my husband?s hometown. My husband is from Litchfield. Him and his mom and dad always went to the one, when it was located on Springfield Rd. and Hwy 16. Today we had the best bacon cheeseburger and fries. We even picked up brownies and cinnamon muffins.

Great Food, lots of good baked goods,go and check them out. We sure love going there and it's right across from the route 66 museum ??, always enjoy going there

Casual restaurant that serves outstanding breakfast food all day. Located right off Route 66 is a MUST for anyone looking for a great dinning experience in a fun relaxing environment. Friendly service and very reasonable prices makes this place a favorite amongst the locals.

Jubelt's has been a family favorite for more than 50 years from back when they were still on State St downtown. Thank you for remaining one of Litchfield's hometown anchor businesses.

Had a great experience. Food is always wonderful. And service outstanding. Our waitress was great! Didn't get her name but she wore glasses and had her hair put up. Was greeted by other staff too.

It does not take 20 min to cook anything on that menu why is the service so slow do not go there if ur in any type of a hurry they are stuck In the 30s with the rest of there retirement community

Wait in line, place your order at the counter and self seating. Ok for days you aren't in a rush and just looking to grab something to eat. Several options from donuts, danishes and coffee, to sodas, a full breakfast, or burgers, fries, sandwiches and salads for lunch.

Always great food and great service. We stop in while traveling from Tennessee any chance we get!

Breakfast was great, the cinnamon roll french toast was amazing and so was the gooey butter cake and brownie.

Great old spot, full on breakfast bakery. Breakfast food was great and afterwards you can grab a pastry from the bakery counter. Old timey but that's part of the charm. My go to breakfast spot when coming up this way!

Late Saturday morning visit and we're seated in quick fashion. I ordered the Original Ponyshoe. Food came quick, and was very good. Server was great, came by and checked on us at the right times.

we enjoy going to this place for breakfast. Numerous times we pass it and constantly say we need to stop and grab snacks! Today on my way back from Springfield I grabbed a variety of desserts to feed our faces. Highly recommend this location for any time of the day food!

Best breakfast on 66! Also, you HAVE to try their gooey butter cake!!

Very good stop along our adventure! A bit confusing at first, but quickly figured out the ordering process ?? Fresh ingredients and served quickly and hot. Very affordable and lots of parking! A great stop along the way, thank you for the great service ????????????

Great breakfast, donuts, look delicious

I came across this gem while on a road trip. The baked treats are wonderful! I got the hand battered fried chicken and mashed potatoes. I will definitely return when in the area again.

Cod was great! We bought treats to go. Beautiful turnover only had one dot of fruit filling. Cranberry/Orange Muffins each had ONE cranberry cut in half inside them. The peanutbutter and the oatmeal cookies were delicious.

My granddaughters and I went to Litchfield to get a prom dress, afterwards stopped at Jubelts for lunch. The have a impressive menu, so many options. Friendly staff and the bakery is awesome! I ended up getting some goodies for Easter ?? Will definitely stop there again if I'm in the area.

The pastries are to die for! Lunch and breakfast menu. I'd have more pictures but we ate it all!!!

They have the best pastries and muffins! Everything in this place was so good.

don?t ever order waffles. Apparently, they only have 1 waffle maker. All of our food took forever & was brought out cold.

Simply a must! Best desserts, apricot danish, soups and more. Part of our Route 66 cruise every year. Add it to yours!

Diet starts tomorrow. Can?t debate that. Phenomenal. Onion rings with steak fries and 2 patties with Texas toast. A1. Smother it with cheese and bacon bits? Can?t beat it.

Great food, great customer service.Nice atmosphere. And you need to try the horse shoes. They are delicious

Disappointed. Ordered a Cuban. Stale bread... like 3 or 4 day old. They used a fried and beaded chicken breast instead of pork... no mustard. They actually don't know how to make a Cuban. Expensive, poor quality. The restaurant is dated not clean. Refresh overdue. Living on a reputation from the past. Well into decline. Try something else.

Ham and Swiss melt was great.

The workers we very friendly as soon as we walked in! My mum and I are on a weekend trip, 4 hours from home, and we stopped in town for gas but were hungry and found this gem of a Bakery! They're prices were very reasonable! Hands down the best pastries we've ever had, and I highly recommend their Caramel frozen lattes! I 10/10 recommend and we may have to make another stop on our way back for some delicious goodies to take back home!

Reasonably priced locally owned and operated bakery and restaurant. Jubelts has been around for generations with Litchfield being the remaining location. The only thing hold them back from my 5th star is that they need to stay open a wee bit longer and close @ 7. However, not my place to pay for or staff, just would like to have them as a dinner option in occasion and can't make it before they close at 6. :-)

Drive thru was simple and fast. Very nice customer service and patient with new customers ?? small town atmosphere and friendly service all the way through. Drinks and food are outstanding and you will definitely be back for your favorite or something new to try. They have special meal deals which is fun, also food friendly for the kiddos. Didn't make it inside this trip but the outside was clean and inviting. Cant wait to stop in for a Real Bite to Eat!

Have been a good customer for years. Ordered hamburger pony shoes and when we got them home the cheese sauce was so spicy hot we were unable to eat it. We phoned to ask if they had changed the sauce because it was never hot before. We were told no and when I stated we were not able to eat either meal we were told "sorry about that". Not - please bring them back and we will give you something else - not - we will give you a credit. NOTHING. $20+ wasted. They have lost a very good customer. This used

Skip this place. We thought the service was bad until we got our food.

Great mom and pop diner/bakery. Great donuts, get the sugar donuts they are great. It is not very wheelchair friendly, please keep this in mind.

Multiple times of waiting in the drive thru for nearly 30 minutes, to rudely receive our food & find its all cold every time. *Edited after owner response* Wow!! We in fact did NOT order any corned beef dinner, as my review says BREAKFAST. Take constructive criticism as it is & maybe you wouldn?t have so many negative reviews. How disappointing of a response! We will literally never give our money to this establishment again, on principle.
