The donuts were fresh and delicious?especially the maple old-fashioned. But what really stood out was the service. Emma was warm, welcoming, and made the whole visit even better. It?s rare to find that kind of energy early in the morning. I?ll definitely be back!

Definitely the best donuts I've had on my trip to the US! They are quite large, without being excessive, as well as incredibly tasty. A trip to Johnny's just makes you happier and gives you a bit of a stomach ache.

The shop looked so cute and welcoming. I was curious to try the Lemon Poppy Seed donut. It was zesty and sweet. I absolutely enjoyed it. We also had the strawberry one. Tasted more like strawberry and cream. Definitely a try if you are in the area. Next time I'm going to try their coffee. They announce Ecadurian coffee.

I'm giving them top 3 donuts of my life!! This style is, like, the fine pastry of the donut world. I didn't know that a gourmet donut is a real thing. Seriously good stuff. Super friendly staff. We got sea salt caramel old fashions and a French toast donut. These were very dense the way an old fashioned should be. Located in the old Smitten location, there is no seating. But there are several benches on Fillmore St and a nearby park where you can go to sit and enjoy the breakfast.

honestly wasn?t expecting much from a gourmet donut spot but the brown butter donut was impressive and a must try! the slight umami flavor from the glaze paired so well with the perfectly fried donut.

The doughnuts here are excellent -- they aren't the overly sweet and melt in your mouth kind you'll find at Krispy Kreme for example. It's a substantial, bread-forward pastry that happens to look like a regular donut and is sweet, but won't immediately rot your teeth out. I'll be coming back.

These are crazy good. In a league of their own with regard to quality and texture. Addictively sweet, so even eating a half donut is too much sugar. My favorite is the cronut. Flakey, a little crunchy, with a layer of custard filling. $4-$6 per donut.

Was happy to see they had two vegan doughnuts and a vegan cinnamon roll as well. Loved the vegan chocolate doughnut. It was delicious! My only comment is that in my opinion, there is too much dough relative to the amount of icing, it seems like it needs some chocolate filling or something.

Fantastic vegan donuts. These donuts are fluffy and light and delicious. The typical vegan donut is cakey and dense and ultimately flavorless. I always get the donuts with chocolate icing, but I'm sure the other flavors are equally good. The only downside is that the donuts are basically $5; unfortunately, though, that's just the price of buying vegan food in SF.

UNIQUE FLAVORS MIXED WITH CLASSICS. Amazing coffee and doughnut shop in the Hayes district of San Francisco. They have a huge range, and the vegan doughnuts are delicious! in my experience it?s good to get in early for the vegan doughnuts as they sell out fast. Loved the music choices being played. Coffee is good too, but the doughnuts are better !!

Great people, atmosphere and most of all immense flavor. The people behind this business care about their customers and ingredients. Their cronut is better than Dominique ansels bakery in New York. If you are unhappy that cruffins no longer exist in SF, this is the place to go instead!

I really wanted to try the wheat free option, but they were sold out by the time we got there around 5:30 PM. Makes sense. Instead, we got the cronut, with delicious custard filling. It was so delicious! Definitely have to come back here again and try more things.

If you like a fluffy donut, skip their classic donuts. They are very dense and arguably not donuts. This place has crazy good reviews so i would consider trying something epse next time but def skip the classic style

We had a great experience here with friendly staff and plenty of selection. The old fashioned caramel chocolate donut was delightful, and perfect for splitting between two people. Americano was smooth and very drinkable.

I brought these doughnuts as a treat for a corporate event and everyone loved them. I loved the apple fritter and the old fashioned maple the taste and texture were unmatched.

The donuts are made in an open kitchen. You can watch the magic happen while you wait in line to decide. The dough is dense and rich. There are unique flavors, like passion fruit. The atmosphere is nice. There are tables with good lighting to enjoy your pastry. I also like that the espresso drinks are sweetened with donut glaze! That's so interesting and fun. There's also wifi and metered parking nearby. Sunday mornings are a good time to hit this place up.

I've been to over 100 doughnut shops and this one is amongst the most unique ones. They use a potato-based dough that gives extra density to their raised donuts, while maintaining the delicacy you'd expect from them. If you like raised donuts that are light as air, these might not be for you, but personally I love the extra chew. Ok here is a follow through on my last post the picture of the crodough from Johnny donuts. I went back to SF wanted to buy some but it was close to closing time and sold out. I told them that I was there just for their crodough and the staff made it happen. Big shout out to the Staff. Thank You guys. Great selection, Clean. About $5 will get you an empty apple fritter with sightings of 3 bits of actual apple on top. The rest is just dough?! What a disappointment, can't believe someone told me this was better than Bob's Donuts. We also tried a lemon cream filled donut, equally a disappointment. This is just another pretty looking bakeshop with crazy prices, that give a story behind each below average donut sold.

If you?re in Hayes Valley you have to check out Johnny?s donuts definitely a staple in the community as you can see. I had the lemon poppyseed and blueberry with the cup of milk. I have to wait 10 minutes because they were out of every donut that a customer ordered from on delivery. Wonderful place beautiful inside the very popular. So if you don't arrive when the donuts right out of the oven fresh and may not be any left your acquire for your taste buds

Ordered half a dozen. Two sugar, one chocolate glaze, one cinnamon roll, one original cinnamon roll and lastly one chocolate glazed old fashion donut. Can?t have donuts without coffee neither. The atmosphere is cherry and bright.

In my review of dynamo donuts I suggested they were tied with Johnny doughnut for the best in the city but that could not be farther from the truth. Johnny Doughnuts far outshines any other option in the city. I am head over heels for all the ?old fashioned? flavors including the chocolate salted caramel. Tourists and locals alike should be flocking here if they are not already. Elsa (picture) sadly missed out on the full experience preferring to eat just the frosting on top. ??

My group and I were actually waiting for the restaurant next door, grumbling about how cold and hungry we were because we foolishly forgot to set a reservation during restaurant week. The employees were closing up inside, and they very generously gave us their leftover doughnuts for the day for free! Made the wait for dinner much better :)

Wow. I was pleasantly surprised sumubling in on this place!! Nothing I love more then my doughnuts! And so, holy cow these doughnuts are amazing. Not the cheapest donuts in town but well worth it especially if you want gluten free or dairy free that actually taste good. Try the sweet potato with chocolate one that's vegan. They also make a vegan cinnamon roll which is delicious. Get there early or call ahead because they may sell out.

I'm a huge apple fritter fan which was I was so excited to try out Johnny's Donuts given their very high ratings. Unfortunately, i discovered that the apple fritters at Johnny's to be much too hard, overly fried and with very little apple. I wish I could say it was just one batch, but I've gone multiple weekends in a row and they're always like this.

Been waiting for this place to open for months! Old fashioned donuts are the bomb, and their espresso is also great. They have gf and vegan donut options and a gender neutral restroom.

Always fresh and delicious! They have so many donuts to choose from but the raspberry fritter with sea salt is a must try!

I?ve never had a bad donut until I ate here. Typically a donut that I don?t like is just because of the flavor is not my preference, but this donut was just not good at all. There no flavor on these donuts at all. It?s just dough. It?s not appetizing at all. Thick. Dry. Not sweet. Literally just dough and a topping.

Cronut was disgusting felt greasy and tasted of cheap oil the filling had no flavor and felt heavy versus light and airy. Tasted like an over priced greasy ball. Would never recommend to anyone. Doesn?t deserve to be a croissant.

We were in town for business and this place was a block from our hotel. Tried on a whim. Ridiculous donuts, so good. Nothing too fancy, but they did the basics better than anyone. Their risen dough is fluffy, chewy, moist. The old fashioned were spiced, cakey, crust on the edges with a hint of salt to cut the sweet. Honestly the best donuts I've ever had. If you're nearby, definitely check them out. Coffee is great, too.

It's too overpriced for what it is. They have too much competition to charge this much for decent doughnuts. For nearby alternatives, I recommend Mochill, SPQR (Saturday mornings), or Bob's. If you're a vegan, this place has your back, though.

Tasty donuts with a decent amount of seating inside. Everyone was very nice - line for the cashier was a bit long, but I went during the first few weeks when they were still ironing out kinks. Only downside is that the donuts are pricey - these aren't your usual Bobs Donuts. But definitely worth a try / occasional treat!

My daughter and I went there expecting something wonderful. What a disappointment. We bought an apple fritter, maple bar and maple old fashioned. They were very heavy, dense and seemed over cooked. Delicious and unique. The fritters are terrific, and all of the different doughnut glazes and fruit fillings are perfectly sweet and fresh. And the coffee... Get a Mocha with homemade chocolate sauce! Well worth it. Go early and get em' fresh!

I bought 3 kinds of doughnuts: old fashioned Maple glaze, glazed, and sprinkle. Out of the 3, I liked the Maple glazed, buy couldn't eat it without having something to wash it down with. Overall, doughnuts way too thick, not enough glaze on the regular glaze to compensate for so much thickness, and no glaze on the sprinkle doughnuts at all. Perfect donuts! Coffee was fine, and so was the customer service - ladies seem to do everything they could to reduce our waiting time in a line (which, as for me, is a natural thing in a good place on a Saturday morning). It?s an upscale donut shop. No smell of slightly stale grease or orange handle pot coffee. You walk in and smell the ingredients. The fresh ground coffee. The sugar of the glaze. Then the raspberry filling and lemon glaze smell waft over. The flavors are real and true. Nothing artificial about them. These are super expensive donuts, but you would never know it by just walking in and shopping for some. THEY DON'T SHOW ANY PRICES. When I asked about this, the ignorant clerks said, "The prices change a lot." WHAT? Market Price (MP) for Donuts? The only reason I can see for not posting the prices of the donuts is because of sticker shock or wanting to be able to over-charge unsuspecting customrs. Either way. Avoid. Gourmet doughnuts that are decently priced. A very nice woman overheard me tell my son that I didn?t want a sprinkle doughnut and we were splitting a doughnut today so she stepped up and bought him a gift card. This is the kind of people that are patrons here. The staff made my son a delicious chocolate milk that I truly didn?t want to hand to him after sampling it. I never knew they had such excellent chocolate milk.

My only regret is Apple Pay isn?t set up to tip here (at least I wasn?t given the option) because the woman at the counter was exceptionally delightful and she deserves a bonus for making my day sweeter. Johnny Doughnuts are a mixed bag. Not all are created equal, so choose wisely! The Old Fashioned doughnuts are particularly good! Raspberry was very tasty, made with extra care and really, amazingly good. The plain glazed with sprinkles is okay, not as good, a bit greasy and loaded with frosting; if you have a major sweet tooth, probably would be perfect for you! Staff are kind, friendly and personable.

My favorite donut shop in San Francisco. Used to go here every Saturday with my daughter when we lived up the street, and now we're only able to make it once or twice a month (sadly). Some personal favorites are the lime cake donut, chocolate salted caramel old fashioned, and crodough. My daughter likes the sprinkly guys. Love the environment and friendly staff too. Great spot to hang with a few friends, or knock out some work (they serve coffee too, as you would probably expect).

I was looking forward to trying this place because of the raving reviews and the beautiful store. I tried the donut with sprinkles and it was whatever. Not much flavor. Too much bread, kind of dry, hard to chew and swallow. I might give it a try to another donut in the future, but this sprinkles one is an awful donut and don?t recommend it at all.

Excellent craft doughnuts and great coffee too. We tried the apple fritter (perfectly light and fluffy inside, crispy exterior) and the chocolate old fashioned (delicious dough recipe with a distinct but welcome blend of cloves other spices).

Decent donuts but are very expensive and not worth the price. Quality is pretty inconsistent has ranged from some pretty great donuts to some stale ones with brittle frosting.

The donuts are real. Unlike other donut shops which serve you ones that are half the size and all sugar. Johnny's Doughnuts are the real deal in taste and more especially in size!! Yummy donuts, a bit dense and heavy for me but really good. You can't eat a whole one, or maybe you can! I think they are made to share. There are a variety of flavors that you can choose from, cute place to sit and eat and friendly service! I would recommend trying them!

Friendly shop with a slightly modern flare. The kitchen and bathroom were clean and the donuts are AMAZING. I new they were rated well but I wasn't expecting every bite to be phenomenal. Definitely exceeded expectations.

While staying at the Inn at the Opera we walked across the street every morning for these incredible donuts. They are large, flavorful - actually, they are perfect. The best donuts I have ever had, and I have had a lot!!
