Hurts Donut

Hurts Donut

Reviews Summary

Hurts Donuts receives mostly positive feedback for its creative, fresh, and varied donut selection, with favorites like the maple bacon long John and apple fritter. Many praise the friendly staff and fun atmosphere, though some find prices high. Negative reviews cite inconsistent availability, overly sweet donuts, and occasional poor service, including unfulfilled orders and rude interactions. While most customers enjoy the unique flavors and quality, a few express disappointment with specific items like cinnamon rolls or shakes. The shop’s 24/7 availability and vibrant vibe are highlights, but operational hiccups and pricing remain points of contention.

Customer Reviews

Friendly staff, good donuts, and fun atmosphere. My only wish, and it's not a complaint, is that they had more whipped cream-filled donuts. The staff will usually fill a donut with whipped cream if I ask though. It's a must-visit when I come back home.

The donuts were some of the best I've ever had. And idk why people are complaining about prices?? Up in Minneapolis they'd be $5-$6 a piece. My favorite was definitely the strudel one. Wish I had gotten more. Staff was SO friendly and helpful too.

I strongly recommend this place. It was very relaxing inside, the staff were super nice. Food was extremely good. I went with my grandmother and it was both of our first time. We plan on going again next week. 3 pics. They were delicious. Apple fritter, smores donut, a donut with filling (pudding like filling), and my grandmother had something that I don't remember... maybe coconut?

This was a unique experience for me because I typically do not eat donuts. This setup was a not the standard bakery setup one would expect to see. They had an extremely large selection of donuts that with random things on the top of them like oreos to apple slices. I personally just got a regular glazed donut. The store is very decorative with a fun and clean environment. They are open 24/7 with one employe running third shift who was very nice and patient. This is the reason that I am giving Hurts Donuts i

Really nice donuts. Freshly baked glazed are delicious. The glazed cherry cake donuts are great. A lot of variety.

Glaze is the best seller and they are always out!! I called first and was told it was a whole tray of them. 10 minutes later I arrive and they are sold out. Hurts in Iowa City keeps glaze handy.

Donuts were inconsistent. 2 of them were great (but very sweet), apple fritter was flat and super greasy (inedible). Tried the gluten free donut (preference) and the aftertaste was very off-putting. We threw away more than half of what we purchased.

They have a good variety of wacky donuts and more simple options. Cool atmosphere inside, and great location downtown.

Donuts are great. Staff is incredibly rude, entitled, and incompetent. They also only make donuts maybe once a day in the morning and by the evening most of the flavors are gone and they don?t make more until the next morning. As a 24hr business this is no way to do things.

Beautiful place, terrific theming and atmosphere, friendly staff, delicious food. We had a s'mores donut and a s'mores iced latte. Both were yummy but not overly special. (Especially for the price!) For a fun dessert or treat out, I recommend it, but not for your everyday donut shop.

Make sure to call for your orders for custom doughnuts. we have had 2 different occasions that orders haven't been done right or not at all, even after calling the day before to make sure it was it was being done. both orders well over a hundred dollars each as well.

A doughnut wonderland of sweet and unique treats! Everything was big, fresh and delicious. The selection was wide, with varieties you probably won't find anywhere else. If you're in the neighborhood, do yourself a favor and stop by. They're open, and you'll be glad you did!

There were so many flavors to choose from, me and my friend got 2 donuts each, and they were super good! The donuts are a bit too sweet for me but still good :)

I?ve never been a donut guy. Just sugar and bread dumped in the body. Nothing of substance just filler. Kind of like todays America. I rolled in to Hurts at 3:30 am by chance as I just happened to ride by on a nite bicycle ride. I hadn?t had a donut in at least a decade but was told things have changed in the donut world. Well you name it and it?s probably been on a donut. The donuts are much bigger than I remember with a cost correlation. They had a nice variety to choose from with some nice flavor c

Love the verity of flavors and everyone is very kind and cooperative! Some of the cake donuts are a bit rich and sweet, but that's just my opinion!

Every time my nephew comes to visit we often make a late night trip to Hurts for donut holes. There is one lady in particular who delights in ruining this child?s day. Any other worker is glad to help and provide what we ask for but every time we visit she insists she cannot sell us the donut holes because ?if I wouldn?t eat them, I can?t sell them to you! They?re a day old!? Now first of all we often buy our donuts and eat them over a series of days so I?m not worried about one day old donut holes, but she

Four different Saturday nights I have stopped by and tried to get a shake I have been told they are out of ice cream. Same woman working every time. I made sure to call at 9:57 pm and asked if they still make shakes this late, a younger woman answered and said yes, so I asked do you still have ice cream? She said yes. I drove all the way to the location and when I got there at 10:30 she immediately told me they had no ice cream. I told her I just called and she got an attitude with me and said she had been

Since my all-time favorite donut shop (Donutland) is no longer in Waterloo/Cedar Falls, I am grateful that we now have Hurts. They have a wide selection of donuts for either breakfast or dessert. When I go to a show at the adjacent River Place Plaza Amphitheater, I will usually grab a meal from a street vendor or the nearby pizzeria, and then stop into Hurts for one of their scrumptious donuts. So glad to have this next to a popular outdoor entertainment venue.

What a delicious variety of donuts. I had a hard time selecting only a couple. This time I walked away with the cherry cheesecake, key lime pie, and blueberry crumb, and all were amazing.

Delicious donuts! This was my first time and won't be my last. The staff was friendly and donuts were simply amazing. I can't wait to visit again.

First of all, and most important ... the donuts are FRESH. We live in Ankeny, but travel LOTS, and whenever we are in Cedar Falls, we stop at Hurts Donuts at 100 E. 2nd Street. I'm attaching a pic, since there is no way for me to described in words the variety of donuts and pastries they carry. If you want to dine in, there are a few tables inside, and there is also a nice green space owned by the city that is nice to hang out by outside. And, here's a tip. If you're like us and had just finished a hu

First time here and will definitely be back. Absolutely the most delicious donuts I have ever eaten. The variety is awesome. The staff is fun to talk to. Love the packaging.

My favorite donut shop in town! They're usually open 24/7 so it's a great place to go if you're like me and stay up past 2 am. Always plenty of options to choose from, they even have their own drink menu.

Great selection and good donuts. On the expensive side, but they are huge and good to share.

Huge selection of donuts and many unique flavors! The coffee is decent, a bit pricey, but still good! Overall, a really cool place to try out!

A true average experience for the products served/price paid. That being said I think the selection is quite large and gives the customer a lot of options. The location is easy to get in and out of for the most part and has been clean when I have stopped in. Staff was helpful enough but a bit rushed. I have been in roughly 3 times since they opened normally get 6 donuts and a apple fritter. Maybe I am missing something with the popularity of this business but I have had better donuts elsewhere that cost 1/2

Best Donuts you can find. You can walk in at midnight or 2am for a donut, refreshers, coffees, and water.

My son and I just went to Hurts Donuts! The choices are all great! Today they made me 2 of my favorite sugar sprinkle donuts since they were out of them. The folks are very friendly and helpful. Enjoy the experience of Hurts Donuts.

Hurts makes amazing donuts. The Apple fritter and cinnamon roll are delicious!

The atmosphere is AMAZING! THE STAFF is just as amazing! The place is kid friendly also! We will be back!!! This was just some of their donut!

Can't say enough about these donuts! Not only are they delicious, but they're HUGE, reasonably-priced, and they have a very large selection - with some crazy flavors (Fruity Pebbles on donuts?... YES!) The staff is super friendly. They're open 24 hours a day. (That's right, you can get your donut craving satisfied at any time of day!) Often if they don't have the donut you want, they'll whip it up for you in about 5 minutes or so. I could go on... Trust me, you need to check them out!

Amazing service! I went yesterday and the girl working was incredibly nice and helpful. I ordered 2 cream filled long johns, pretty standard donuts right? She had to go in the back and make them which she was more than happy to do. As it turns out, the cream filling is just vanilla frosting. Awful. Cream filling should be light and fluffy, whipped. I used the bathroom while I was waiting and the hallway was full of leaves and junk and water bottles. Eerie. But other than that it's a pretty cool building. To

I have always loved their apple fritter but went there at 6:00 p.m. and got one to go. When I got home was surprised that it was flat and not much of a taste to it. If this would have been my first time it would have been my last. But I have gotten them before so will probably will go back, but in the morning.

Yummy donuts! Open 24hours? ????Uh-oh! There was a line, because the place is new in this area, but the line moved right along...it gave us time to view our options! ????

After hearing that Hurts Donut "was all that", my wife and I decided to give them a try. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by the staff and they were quite polite and helpful. We bought a raspberry bismark, the Cookie Monster, Starry Night, the Brownie, and 2 Peanut Butter Oreo. While they're good, Hy-Vee's donuts are better in quality, taste, and freshness. Sure you may get more "novelty" flavors here, but you're also paying a premium for them, $12 for just a half dozen. If you live downtown, i

Really good donuts, have some weight to them. Got a whole box because I knew I wouldn't be able to have just ONE. I had The Brownie and it was great. Will be going more often. If you love donuts this would be a perfect place to go love it.

I consider myself somewhat of a donut expert. You might say I am on a hole food diet. The real food pyramid is coffee, donuts, pizza. This was the best donut shop I?ve ever seen. The selection available is astonishing. You won?t be disappointed.

We've never been to the Hurts donut in Cedar Falls before. Great selection We got a raspberry streusel, blueberry streusel, Oreo cheesecake, lemon, and a couple other ones. If you're looking for a large variety of something to satisfy your sweet tears I would recommend snapping at Hurts donut.

Stopped in to get some donuts of course, the maple bacon long John is definitely hands down number one to get with your order. I got several other flavored donuts, the staff were very helpful and respectful. I am definitely going to be stopping again!

Their doughnuts are incredibly delicious!!! Highly recommend??

Usually pretty happy, but not today. We had certificates for 5 free donuts. I also purchased an additional dozen. I asked for 4 white donuts with chocolate frosting and peanuts. I got 4 white donuts with white frosting and peanuts. Spent $34 and a 1/3 of them were wrong. Sad day!!??

Awesome place, awesome donuts. We split a donut in half, and feels like we had a whole donut!! They are huge!! The apple fritter is as big as your head!!!!

Sunday morning 12:30. Purchased a dozen as I had promised. The selection was awful! Most of the shelves were empty.

I came into hurts this morning and I am very disappointed in the customer service. This is the second time I?ve been in recently with poor service. The staff does not acknowledge customers when they come in. I saw multiple customers leave due to being ignored. The case was being cleaned with no one assisting or noticing customers. It is also the morning with the case nearly empty. I was told they would have to make more donuts and was told they have no idea how long it will take and was very rude. I?m late

So many donuts. So many options. I had an old fashioned donut and the Jesus, which was mouth-watering deliciousness! The staff was so helped and answered all my questions about the donuts, which helped me make a decision about what to get.

Line of people clear out to the door and one slow guy at the counter and not a lot to choose from. Very disappointing.

Great atmosphere, service was mostly okay. The food though.... they used to be the best and it seems not as good as it used to be yet more expensive than ever!! 100$+ for 24 donuts!!! My goodness!!!

Great doughnuts, plenty of options will definitely recommend the cheesecake doughnut.

I have had 2 experiences with Hurts Donut Co. and both have been great. I shopped in store once and ordered a GF donut. The cashier said they were just out of the over and let us choose how we wanted them decorated. I also ordered some for an upcoming birthday party and my daughter wanted specific decorations. The woman on the phone was so patient and helped me figure out which decorations I was looking for. I will definitely be back for more!

IA chain that reminds me of this OR chain VooDoo Donuts. Very fun & unique place with great variety of donuts to choose from.

The employees are so kind. All of the little details are amazing. Such as: a little Hot-wheels-sized ambulance that is an emergency donut vehicle and how the handle on one of their mugs is a set of brass knuckles. I?m telling all of my friends about it.

Disappointed donut eater. They have been out of donut holes for the last 2 weeks that I have been there to buy a bunch. After they suggested we call first, we did! The person on the phone said they had plenty and didn't take my name for the 30 I wanted. Jumped in the car and drove the 30 mins only to be told that someone had just bought 8 dozen and they didn't have my 30 donut holes any more. So disappointed and wish they followed through on their side.

I can?t say enough good things about Hurts Donuts in Cedar Falls, Iowa. This was my first time. I received a friendly greeting as soon as I walked in the store. There was an excellent selection of donuts! The workers were very friendly and helpful and were chipper and appeared happy to be at their job. I was thinking after I paid about how I was going to get a box of donuts, a water, coffee, and baby in his car seat out to my vehicle. The worker asked me if I needed help out. Another wonderful employee came

So many wonderful things about this place. The employees are so friendly and engaging. The donuts are consistently fresh and the variety offered is amazing.

The doughnuts are fabulous, of course. A little bit pricey, but they're big & very specialized, so we're willing to pay a lil more for them. The fritters are $5.50, but they're gigantic. The best deal is to buy a dozen.

My wife and I really enjoyed the atmosphere! Nothing like ordering donuts while listening to 90's hip hop!! Anyway, the donuts were great. The Bavarian Cream was deliciously prepared and went well with a chocolate milk. Check it out if you've never been. Oh, did I mention that the prices are actually good and fair in our typically overpriced food and sweets consuming culture. Take the whole family!

Went in and bought 6 doughnuts. Line moved quickly, the place was clean, and the staff was friendly. The doughnuts were tasty. I can see why some people would say they're too sweet, but I only felt that way after eating two. In other words, it was the right amount of sweet to me. I can't review the drinks yet, but I plan on visiting again and trying some. I'll update the review once I've tried some of their drinks.

Amazing Doughnuts, creative backdrops, fun atmosphere.

I had the gentleman behind the counter to select two dozen for me, to take along to high stress meetings. He picked a nice variety and the recipients seemed to appreciate them. The store was clean and the service was prompt. There was plenty of free parking around the store. It is located before the massive construction zoo that turns into 57 in Cedar Falls, so you're okay there. The doughnuts are visibly stunning, but very sweet... because they're doughnuts...

The donuts are way too sweet for me. Maybe suggest to reduce sugar in them. I prefer the plain ol donuts.

We were excited to see that Hurts was coming our way! I checked the website and FB page about pre-ordering and how this all worked. There was no instruction or explanation for how the "emergency donut vehicle" sells the product. We thought we would be able to choose our dozen. Nope. We hurrily walked away with $30 in product- as dude was clearly annoyed that we weren't aware if how this deal worked. Not worth it.... sorry. Wanted to like it.

I love the fact that they?re always open! It can be 3am, you?re craving a donut, (not the basic Kwik star ones either), you get into your car & go to Hurts Donut! The staff is happy to see you, eager to satisfy your sweet & sugary needs, and proud to be the people you chose to go see in the middle of the night! Literally a great place. 10/10, all stars!

They don't make it clear which donuts are part of the "Dirty Dozen" or not. Went specifically to get a special themed donut only to be told it wasn't part of their dirty dozen offering when there were some blended in exactly with donuts that were. If you are going to have exclusions, maybe DON'T put the excluded donuts in with those that are and instead put them all on their own side. And maybe don't say "you pick" on your menu! I know these theme donuts take more time/resources to make, but that is no rea

Great doughnuts! The atmosphere inside is really fun. You can watch the bakers prepare fresh doughnuts while waiting. I have one suggestion Hansen's Milk Please??

We love this locally owned franchise! Owners are over the top good humans! What can you say about the donuts?they are huge, creative super snacks. We always enjoy sharing them

This place is AMAZING! The doughnuts are funny, and creative, and they always GREAT! The have some cool seating, like a swing you can sit on. This place is amazing.

Hubby stopped and picked up a cinnamon roll to try. Brought it home, and we split it. Wow, how very disappointed we were. It was horrible, no cinnamon to taste, very doughy, and was very dry. Frosted with a very, very thin glaze. Perhaps if they had used some cream cheese frosting, like most good cinnamon rolls, at least it may have helped give it some kind of flavor. Not impressed with this place so far. Very overpriced, and what we tried was horrible. I would hate to have to bring a bunch of kids in

I came in looking for a Bavarian creme donut and they were out of them. Without blinking an eye, the donut seller became donut maker and she joyfully went back and made me two from scratch. Sorry folks, but this is why I pay a little extra for my stuff. I love people who go the extra mile and want to surround myself with these types of establishments. It's worth patronizing them because they are really good at what they do and the experience gives us choices here in Cedar Falls. Won't you stop in? Someone

Yum!! My family of four went this morning before a big line started up. We were greeted immediately, the lady was patient about us being overwhelmed by all the choices. Friendly, attentive customer service. I got the coconut cream and Nutella, I've only had the coconut cream so far and bites of my husband's and kids donut and they were all delicious! Even the plain donut parts were really yummy. I don't think they're outrageously priced for what you get. I'd like to say I'll be back soon but I'm trying to l

Quick line. Social distanced while waiting. Fast service. Good stop.

A real honest bakery! Be still my heart! Love all of it. Fun flavors, visually pleasing The kind of place where you go in for one thing and leave with 2 bags. It all looks delicious - I love bakeries like this

Staff were very kind! Very patient with our large group. One of my donuts was raw in the middle but I am quite sure it was an anomaly. I would absolutely reccomend!

Went to get some donuts this morning and was greeted by a rude employee. We were basically wasting her time, asking her questions about the donuts and inquiring about ones they were out of. She stared at us, with a flat expression and didn't bother to ask anyone or check if they were going to have any more of them, ready soon. Bought a few other donuts. They tasted stale. Thought about going back in. Changed our minds. Did not finish them. If you want someone to be rude to you, and basically treat you like

What can I say? Everyone loves Donuts! We visited yesterday. Went in for 2 and came out with a dozen, couldn't decide! Very helpful and informative about specials. Got a T-shirt that I'll wear next time to get something extra. Love Hurts Donuts!

The best donut shop I have ever been to! The Cherry Streusel will always by my #1 pick!

Ok so I usually come in here for my fav donut The Homer. Which I love to death but tonight I ordered an energy drink with Guava and Mango. The drink looked wrong so I asked her the flavors she put in it, she didn?t know which ones she put in it. She asked me to try it which is valid but I gagged. Turns out she put apple flavoring in it and shocker I have an allergy too. She handled it unprofessionally, doubted me, and asked if we knew how to dial 911. Barely an apology so I just hope in the future stuff lik

Mother?s Day, waited in line for 30 minutes to choose from 6 donuts. Was told they didn?t expect to be this busy today.... Mothers Day and there are no restaurants open. Good planning as there was a constant line to the door while there. When getting to the counter, I asked if more donuts were being prepared and the clerk said sarcastically ?no we aren?t making any more today?. Nice attitude for someone standing behind a 24 hour business with no product to offer, but I could place an order and pick up later

Horrible experience. Ordered cream filled donuts a couple times. Got charged 18 for dirty dozen which FYI, menu states "you pick". Third time I went in, ordered cream filled donuts. Tried charging me 40 dollars!! For a dozen donuts!! I refused. Tried contacting corporate, they tried telling me it was "not a part of the dirty dozen" False avdertisement in my opinion. Was told someone from the Cedar Falls store would be contacting me. Still have yet to hear anything from them. Guess I will be taking my busine

Hurts Donut in in downtown Cedar Falls, Iowa, is very clean and has a huge variety of donuts for everyone to chose from. I gave them a four star as they are not our favorite donut shop in the Cedar Valley.

Hurts Donuts exceeds my expectations on what I think a donut shop should be. It's clean, the folks who work there are quite friendly, there's a good vibe & their donuts are phenomenal. They have a lot to choose from & their donuts are scrumptious. What more could you want from a donut shop?

The place was oddly busy. I say oddly because I have been to probably 20 donut shops in my life and I have never once seen a line. Smelled good and looked clean when I walked in (but it is brand new also). From this point I had very high hope's of a delicious melt in your mouth donut. The line did not take long about 7 minutes. You can choose your own dozen or for roughly $2 less get a pre-made dozen. 16 dollars later I walk out with a hurts dozen. By the way excellent service! I drove all the way home open

Great cookirs and cream donut. Gluten free donut was one of best GF donuts u I have had

There is a great selection of donuts with many frosting and filling combinations. They have plenty of drink options for everybody. The prices are reasonable. Our family got three donuts, a huge twist roll, and two drinks for $12.

Such good donut selection. They are so good, too. we did a six pack and we picked I wasn't unsatisfied with any of our choices. My favorite so far oreo cheesecake & boyfriends favorite so far was lemon pie (both were ahhhmazing)!!!

This place is ridiculously good. I had both the chocolate and pink sprinkled donuts. The frosting is the best I've ever had. I'll be dreaming about that frosting. Really special stuff.

Sevice was fantastic. They had a donut named after me and gave us one free of charge. The donuts are absolutely amazing and the environment was fun and welcoming. The coffees are just as amazing as the donuts.

Nice customer service, cool merch, and awesome doughnuts! The cheesecake is my favorite personally! The doughnuts here are much fresher tasting then other locations that I?ve been to. I only have two small complaints: the frosting/design work is a bit sloppy and the Nutella doughnut is definitely not Nutella. It?s just basic chocolate icing.

Best Hurts I've ever been to absolutely loved it and the area around it, went for a walk after beautiful setting.
