I came to Goldmine to have breakfast with a friend. Upon leaving, I realized that I left my hat at the restaurant. I immediately returned and spoke with the waitress who served us. She pretended to search for my missing hat. She informed me that another group may have taken the hat. Which is impossible because I was only gone for 20 minutes and there is no way that another guest could have eaten their meal so fast. She even informed me to call at 6am and speak to the manager. I felt that I was being
I was raised in this area and when. I saw the diner I wanted to go in. I instantly began to reminisce when I would get off the 1 train late at night and go eat here. It has me family run and operated business. There have been some updates, but there is still a diner feel.
This was my first time walking into this caf?. It has been on my radar for sometime too. After a food shopping trip, I walk in with my loaded shopping cart into a pretty empty caf?. It looks cute and simple at a glance. There were no other customers, just two waitresses and the cook in the back. The two waitresses were caught in conversation on the side, but I still said hello as I entered. No response. I thought maybe they didn't hear me, but they definitely saw me enter. I thought it more odd that neither
This diner makes a good tasting eggplant hero for a very reasonable price. Their spanakopita is a bit mushier than I prefer and more peppery than usual. Their Greek salad is standard but nothing memorable. I love going into the restaurant though to see the wall paintings of the Dodecanese island of Kasos and Athens! I recognized the places in Kasos and named them. The staff were impressed. I visited Kasos and must tell you the beaches, open space and air quality there was great. I might move there one day.
This place did something so absurd and disgusting to my bagel I swore I would never ever order from here again. I asked for a bagel with vegetable cream cheese. Please tell me why my bagel arrived with hardly and cream cheese and FROZEN VEGETABLES on it. YES. Peas, carrots and string beans!!! Never in my life have ever been served something so disgustingly lazy and absolutely disrespectfully wrong. Since then I have never and will never order from here again.
UPDATE (2nd Visit: ??) Note: This is my second & final experience with Gold Mine cafe. The first time I went, they had just received a late night delivery of fresh cinnamon rolls. Delish! I think I rated them 4 stars based solely on that cinnamon roll & black coffee to go. But this second time around, I ?dined in? and ordered a little more. Oh how things change. ?Excuse me, Sir, I?m very busy? is never a good reply to a customer whose order is incorrect. I ordered banana raisin French toast w/ scrambled egg
There is clearly a preference if you're a particular ethnic group, I was seated and waited, and waited, while a Hispanic family was seated after me and was attended to, by the hispanic waiters and order taken before anyone ever even asked if I wanted a drink. Will not patronize again.
The place has good food and service. It is also placed in a good area. At first the waitress didn't understand my brother (who speaks clear english) when he asked her how her day was. They also forgot to provide us silverware. Everything was forgiven when the food came, which wasn't a long wait. My brother got pancakes with strawberries, my sister got over-easy eggs with hashbrowns, toast and bacon, and I got Belgium waffle with bacon. The pancakes and waffles had the same taste, but different textures. The
I always order from this place but this is the last time cause I order an ice coffee I saw something floating in it and when I got home it shifted it into another cup and there it was a damn fly in my drink. Never again cause ?? The women at the counter was nice tho but there goes my money If you want ice coffee bad go to Dunkin? Donuts by the post office
I absolutely love it here my mom used to always take me here when I was little , and when I tell you their cheesecake is the best (strawberry cheesecake) oh my god I?ll be back soon for it !!! I am obsessed
The best place you can have your breakfast , lunch & dinner . The stuff is very friendly and polite, especially the two Greek guys in the front . The best spanakopita I could ever have in my life is so delicious . Definitely, I'm gonna go again .
I?m not a picky eater at all and never have reviewed my foods even when they?ve been off, but this one was baaaaaad. I placed an Uber Eats ordered for spaghetti and meat sauce which I thought would be normal spaghetti with tomato sauce and the ground beef mixed in. What I received was dry spaghetti noodles, no sauce at all, with what appeared to be chunks of hamburger helper/?Mystery Meat? on top and dried cheese everywhere (which cheese wasn?t even mentioned in food description). It smelled like plastic an
I'd always been a bit intimidated by this place, but the waitresses were lovely and the did was very good!
An odd little place, worth going to if you?re in the mood for local color. When they put up Christmas lights, it?s right out of a David Lynch movie. Stick to the basics ? breakfast menu, grilled cheese, etc. They?re very good at breakfast. The 3 cheese omelet is killer.
This place is amazing, there are a lot of cafes in this area but this spot is the best imo compared to the others. Great food and options, the price is great, I always come here for breakfast whenever I go out
Only good thing I can say was the gentleman who served other then that throw the whole diner in the trash
Food is bussin great breakfast here wether you dine in or take out
The food is Great prices are spot on and the service amazing.
Cashier was super nice, food was okay, space small, there was a smelly man close by which made it harder to enjoy the food, that turned me off
I have been getting food from thisbplace for years but this was maybe the second time I actually sat in to eat and was disappointed. Went there yesterday evening with my kids and the lady was nice but I don't think she listens well to people's orders. Everything we got missed the salad or lettuce it required and I asked for a to go order and she still brought it on a plate to the table. And when I went to pay I was told I needed to tell her what my tip would be on the credit card because there machines were
This place has become a dump! It just seems dirty has of late. I went one morning .. my cup of coffee with someone?s lipstick and a fight between 2 men almost happened. I left the food and all.. paid and never again
Went out on a limb and ordered a Cuban sandwich to go. Bread not pressed, little to no mustard, no lech?n, instead of those long flat Cuban sandwich pickles, they put some chopped cucumbers in there. Great option for cakes and 24/7 under the 1 train is unbeatable. But figure out this Cuban or take it off the menu because the disrespect they?re showing this sandwich is a travesty. [Edit] also with this Cuban I ordered a slice of carrot cake and it was awesome , super moist , the icing was rich and sweet and
The establishment used to be a pleasant place to visit. However, when the manager is absent, the staff appears to be disoriented and lacks knowledge about the menu. For instance, they were unfamiliar with the Greek frappe, which I used to order frequently. This lack of awareness is causing the business to lose potential revenue. It would be beneficial for the staff to receive proper training and guidance to improve their service and customer satisfaction. I had to walk out disappointed. I guess Starbucks it
This place has gotten significantly worse over the last year with their food orders via delivery. The last few times I have ordered, they sent me more than one wrong item. This time (4/15/2024), they did the same thing - left out 2 sets of homefries that I ordered and sent me a blackened, burnt burger when I asked for medium-well. When I called to complain, I was put on hold for 5+ minutes, so I think they forgot about me. When I called back, the owner who had an attitude, initially told me that he didn't s
Food is absolutely disgusting and the employees ( I think theres like 3 people that work there total) have horrible customer service and just general people skills. Smh...
Decent Florentine omelette. That's all I have to say about that.
Nice portions for the right price. Can sit and eat.. fast to go or order ahead. The breakfast food tastes good to me.. fresh squeezed orange juice also. I loved the chocolate cake..smh!!! 24 hours. There is street parking but it is limited. Train and bus stop right there so it is noisy and busy. ... But hey that NYC
Just go to the Dale Diner next door. The prices here are good and the food is average; however, they have the worst service in the neighbourhood. I've been here twice; the first time it took 15 minutes before a waitress seated me and then she didn't check in on me or offer me a refill once the entire meal. I gave them a second chance tonight; waited at the door for 10 minutes and was never sat. I sat myself and got myself a menu, waited for another 15 minutes, but nobody ever came to take my order so I left
My favorite breakfast stop... a real diner!
Wanted to give a big thank you to the staff at Gold Mine Cafe for their kindness. The other day an elderly woman had fallen on the sidewalk and myself and two others stayed with her until the ambulance came. The Gold Mine Cafe staff let us sit inside, brought her water, and were kind to be so hospitable. I will be back next time I am in the area to have a meal and the fresh squeezed orange juice that seems to be made inside the Cafe! Thank you and wishing your business well.
Found a fly on my food while I was eating, felt very disgusted and disappointed
I went to this diner today to order a simple sausage, egg and cheese on a roll. What I got was a toasted roll very little egg and cheese. 2 thinly sliced sausage links and tons of salt and pepper on the sandwich. I couldn't eat the sandwich it was so salty. I ended up throwing it out. Unfortunately, I had already left the area when I decided to eat.
Decided to randomly stop here after arriving to an appointment too early. The service was fantastic but I ate the worst bacon egg and cheese I have ever had in my life here. The bread and cheese were somehow cold and they only put two little things of bacon so I basically had an egg and cheese sandwich. Everything else was alright. Still, won?t be coming back.
I just oder a honey mustard chicken sandwich it was dry no sauce it?s says it?s top with honey mustard just ketchup in the bag and it was in a regular roll bread smh never again 30 dollars
Food is basic diner food. They are a local place with local people who can make or break your experience. The lady across from us smelled so much we had to leave . They also practice some not so subtle theft. Like they round your check up to the nearest nickel . They also charge you .50 cents for using any credit card as a payment. Both small but underhanded and ugly for a business. The only good waitress is Maria. Most of the others just slap your food on the table. None the less they make a good cheeseb
I went to go eat with my child. Never again I will eat there. My eggs were cold my home fries were burnt and flat like pancakes. My child?s mozzarella stick tasted nasty the sauce was watery and the French fries under cooked. My child found some nasty thing on his ice that looked like mucus. Bad experience never again. I spent 17.00 dollars on garbage. Then weird customers coming in and staring at us while we eat. So disturbing DO NOT GO and they change prices when they want.
I ordered a simple egg and cheese and the bread was not toasted what so ever. I asked for a side of home fries and barley gave me anything in my tray. The eggs tasted bland. Plus they got my brothers order wrong. Don?t recommend for breakfast. Could have saved me $18 dollars!
Clearly whichever one of the men takes orders on the phone has serious hearing problems. Missing a third of my order and now they expect us to buy what they did not hear. Absolutely ridiculous. And they have the nerve to be rude on the phone. Couldn?t even bother to give us syrup with our order either. Not what it used to be that?s for sure. Better off at other diners around the area.
0 stars is more like it. Eating at this diner for 16 years. Today I was ignored by the cashier/doesn't want to be a waitress for 15 minutes. She wouldn't make eye contact or acknowledge me when I asked to speak to a manager. When I attempted to speak with a manager on the phone she hung up on me at least 10 times. I finally reached the manager who apologized but it was too little too late. This employee ruined a long term relationship with a solid customer who is a generous tipper and typically not v
Food was good, but could be better. They have a wide selection on their menu and have fast service. Price was adequate and the staff were all nice. I like the ambience of the place, which was that of a cozy, home-y diner. It was clean too.
Nice small diner! It was my first time and my overall experience was the service and food was good but the portion of size was small. I been to diners and they serve more but other than that their coffee was very good!
Love this place. Great food, great prices and great atmosphere. A rare gem that has pretty much remained just about the same since the early 90s even with demographic change and gentrification in surrounding areas. Highly recommend anything from there but my favorite is the breakfast menu.
When I was working in the West Farms area of the Bronx I would go there in the morning before I got on the BX9 to get a large coffee. Obviously, the coffee was good, & put together exactly how I asked. The employee's there were respectful as well.
My family and I love this place, I get my coffee hot or cold every morning from Gold Mine it beats Starbucks and Dunkin? Donuts prices and mainly the flavor. The breakfast is also delicious as well as the lunch and dinner options. Most importantly its family owned after a few years of frequently eating here they treat us like family too they greet my kids with warm hugs, kisses and smiles every time we walk in. Over all a great place to share memories with my family and friends.
First the lady with glasses was nasty with me. Told me the reason I can't hear her is that I had earphones on. No, I am deaf and that's why I didn't hear her. I read lips. Then I ask for a diet coke with my meal. She didn't bring it at all. I'll never go back there again.
Let me tell you!!! literally every diner has gotten my order wrong. This diner is the only one that listen. The cook is awesome, manager awesome and omg the front counter ladies they make my morning always a warm smile with great fast service.
The night manager allows the cook to grab the food that he is about to cook with his bare hands with no gloves. I asked him why he is not wearing gloves and the night manager ask me why I was ignorant for asking him about the cook not wearing gloves while he cooks. Next time I will take pictures. this only happens at night so far. This is the second time I walked in and saw the same cook doing the same thing. I will speak with the owner tomorrow on this matter.
Somewhat new blonde haired "waitress" is intensly rude and condescending to be nice. Gold Mine has a great reputation for their food and faire. However this person, who used to be employed up the block at Louie's, sadly employs the same melancholicly rude behavior in this honest establishment. She is a sure deterrent to customers simply seeking the classic diner experience...simply put, she's not a good fit for the place.
Very good food and service is a good place to eat love it I will recommended.
First time customer great customer service I ordered the classic cheeseburger deluxe with fries let?s just say freaking delicious. Definitely going back and great price truly.
Food was excellent! Wait staff was very helpful and friendly. Whenever you visit New York City give them a try ..
Great Dinner. I been there hundreds of times. They have great food. Over 40 year I believe it?s .
Great place for breakfast. A little on the pricey side but quality is good. Oh and if you'd like to know how Pepsi tasted back in the 80s try their fountain Pepsi. It's off the hook!
Great price food and alot of menu options. Service could be better. Food was ok. Cook didnt follow notes or waitress didnt say anything. Took 10-15 to recieve the check before my friends and i walked to the cashier. I ate at 2 in the morning so maube thats why.
First time ordering a Veggie Burger Deluxe! It was delicious! Definitely will order it again!
I ordered the eggs Benedict and it tasted sour the sauce and Canadian bacon was slimey the waitress never came back to ask if the food was ok or if we needed anything . The hash browns were burnt and greasy and the kind you buy at the dollar store . So service and food gets a big thumbs down
I like the convenience of this place which is open 24/7, is right near my smoke shop and neighborhood Irish pub, and right down the steps of the #1 train station on the NE corner of 231st St. & Broadway. The fast-order cooks are tops.
I always enjoy going there. It's an old school breakfast spot. Great food...A must visit venue.
First time came here asked for a BLT and I could barley eat it because they put so much salt and pepper on it. Second time i came in here sat at a table waiting to be served 30 whole minutes went by with the lady serving the other tables. Just walked out. This place is a joke.
The lady their is so rude with attitude ! I went in their to ask a question if they had oatmeal and she was very rude abt it she gave me a explanation but I did not understand then she rolled her eyes and said it in a rude tone
My husband purchased us a meal the other night & there was a roach inside of the brown paper bag that contained our food. NEVER AGAIN will I eat from here, please if you?re going to purchase from here check ALL the items even the bag.
We're a regular customer, but tonight is the last!!! Giving a coleslaw without a cover so it messed up the whole plastic bag.. And buying our regular order cheese burger deluxe, with no lettuce and tomatoe.. We called up for their mistake, instead of apologizing the old guy keep explaining on his mistake.. Very disappointing!!!
Great cafe to go to, open 24 Hrs. The service is amazing, food is amazing, comfortable, and just makes u feel at home, I literally eat at this place like 2 or 3 days within a week. HIGLEY RECCOMEND.
Food was great, but I waited so long I had to place my order with one of the cooks. Also their pricing is not very accurate to what's on their menu.
This place has great food for a good price. Typical diner food but it's delicious, better than any of the other places around the neighborhood. Highly recommend
place always gets your order the way you want it. food is fresh, hot and made to order. Coffee is fresh at what ever time you order
Fast Service, Great staff, affordable prices, good atmosphere...
Wonderful place to have lunch and dinner. The food is great. It's a good place to go on a Saturday and Sunday for a quick bite.
Slow service. They are all over the place in the cashier area and very rude. Fresh orange juice is good but pricey.
Loove this place. Always open. Diner style atmosphere. Grab breakfast lunch or dinner anytime. The staff get to kno their customers, they'll remember u wen u return, I love that. The food is delicious. Prices r not bad. Its right on the corner of 231st Broadway, u cant miss it. They make milkshakes, they have fresh rice pudding nd jello, a variety of homemade fresh cakes like strawberry cheesecake, chocolate etc oh the canollis r amazing. U can stay in nd eat. Its pretty quiet nd cozy. I love how u can find
Good place to grab a quick bite of breakfast. Prices not too shabby and they have specials. Only annoying thing is I always get stuck sitting in a booth with my back against a jackass who can't sit still. Every. Single. Time. Guaranteed.
Waiter messed up 3 of the 4 orders, the carrot cake was disgusting and he said he would give us a discount for messing up there orders and he only took off $1.00.. Not to mention the soda cans are filthy... I will never go back to this place ever again.
Best Bacon, Egg and cheese in town hands down. Coffee is good too. I'm hooked now. I like being able to support local, privately owned business like this than to eat that processed food at Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks. Think about it. These big corporation are taking over and are feeding our community junk, processed foods. HELP KEEP THESE LOCAL BUSINESS ALIVE.
Great food... Small diner style meals that you can eat in or take out. Very tasty and the daily specials are excellent bargains!!!
The ladies at the front were friendly and helpful. I did not sit down to eat I just got a coffee and donut while waiting for the bus. They have specials if you are not eating inside.
This is my go to spot every Friday. I absolutely love it!!! Great service & food, it's very clean and the service is on point.
I like diners, this is no diner. McDonald's has better food and way better service. If you order the appetizer sampler in this place you must follow it up with an order of sauces for the wings, mozzarella sticks etc etc. The Ruben I ordered was bone dry and tasted off. My girlfriend ordered a burger, it was Mojave desert dry. Long story short she is puking her guts out as I wrap up this review. The Gold Mine Dinner is a gold mine for the local gastroenterologist. Actually I'm feeling a little queezy myself
I went to this gold mine Cafe I always go but today I was treated wrong by the manager and waitress they talking about how I was dress and I was going to work cause I do cleaning services I felt so sad I couldn't imagine how they would treat a person that's homeless I won't be going there anymore the food is ok but there are wrong for doing that
Great little place ?? for quick stop before work or school but definately not spacious enough for a family size but definately good food and made fast . and very hospitable workers .
Nice place ,outside dining available, indoor dining socially distanced, temperature taking, meal was okay -ordered breakfast-food had generic taste ,syrup offered was pouring slow and not free flowing, service was very nice though, would go back again and have a different meal
The service was great and fast. The staff are very professional!! The food was fresh and taste good.
Use to be the go to spot late night , late night chef lazy.. Ask for medium anything it's going to be well done.. No Mayo, no ketchup.. Consistently.. Just get breakfast food nothing else.. Dale diner waay better!!
The person who took our orders was friendly. The order was done quickly. The place is clean. The food is very good.
A staple of the area for about a decade, the Gold Mine Cafe is a family operated diner that provides a varied menu with some typical diner fare along with some specialty dishes. The staff get to know their customers.
Not perfect but yes good enough. Some ordered items forgotten and some details like hamburger not cooked as requested perhaps slightly slow service and coffee not great, otherwise fine and friendly.
Love this place. Very glad it's still around after so many years. Great food, friendly staff.
It is the the only place in the Bronx worth visiting, not only for the best food they offer but for the ecxelent way it is prepared by the cooks. The servants are especial ladies. juanito
The experience is very nice and they treat you like family the food very delicious
