I always stop in for a bite to eat or a coffee, every time I come to San Francisco. It doesn't matter what time, they are always open. The lady who owns the place is the lady you'll usually see behind the register. She is always working, I'd be exhausted and clumsy if I worked that much.. but she handles it well. They have a lot to choose from, cup of soup, chips, sandwich??, cereal, pies??, cakes??, yogurt, donuts?? and other pastries, fresh juice, coffees?, water, energy drinks, soda... The only reason I
This hidden gem is on a busy corner of the tenderloin near a lot of government offices and banh mi shops. The donuts are always fresh and it?s easy to quickly pick up large orders. The donut holes are light and fluffy and they have lovely churros!
Needed to pick up a quick dessert after enjoying the most amazing pizza a few doors down at Outta Sight. Gateway drew us in with their stacks of pink donut boxes--an immediate sign that this is a legit donut place. Our go-tos: blueberry and crunch which were immediately recognizable in the glass case. The lady behind register was very friendly and before we could assume it was cash only, she brought the POS out for us to tap and go. Gotta love it when a humble mom & pop keeps up w/tech. One excited bite out
In a nutshell: fastest, most affordable, good donuts, coffee, and sandwiches any time of the day and night. I give the place 5 stars for being amazing at being what it is. It is in no way a 5-star luxury experience. In luxury scale, it is a 3-star coffee and donut shop. But for a casual simple neighborhood joint they do a great job which deserves each one of the 5 stars available. Here is why OPEN 24/7. You can always rely on this place to get a coffee and a sandwich or a pastry, which they have a vast s
What a fantastic bakery, best I've had in the city! I got a jelly filled donut and apple fritter and they're both delicious. More substantial and equally as soft and moist as the big chain.
great pastries, coffee, bagels, much more. Super friendly service and quick too. Also great prices. Grateful to have them in the neighborhood!
LETS JUST SAY I LOVE IT SO MUCH I HAD TO QUIT, and that was after gaining about 15 pounds AFTER having a baby! Buttermilk maple warmed are to die for
Great tasting donuts, coffee and other sandwich & snack items. No place to set.
Great donut place. Reasonable prices for donuts. Wide variety of donuts. Tables to eat in the restaurant. Credit card payment has an extra fee.
bacon only takes five minutes to cook about the same time as the eggs. so it was weird and somewhat disheartening that even when I asked for freshly cooked bacon I was refused and told pre-cooked was the only option.i get wanting to take less time although when I'm the only one in the store and personally request fresh bacon instead of pre-cooked this would was on those situations where "the customer is always right" was applicable and should have been practiced. this was also the first time I was in here a
Good enough donuts at a reasonable price. Pretty good coffees.
The ladies behind the counter are fast and accurate. They are no nonsense employees and won't hesitate to bark at you if your acting out of line. Best time to go is around 2-3am just because it seems I usually catch a fresh batch being laid out of warm moist doughnut. Absolutely heavenly!!! The atmosphere has improved lately every since the open air drug market was shut down that ran along the outside sidewalk at night. Daytime visits are fine with nothing to worry about.
A little sketchy at this place at night time but awesome food and the little lady at night is so sweet but she'll throw down if she has too keep people in regulate people at night.
Thank you gateway croissant for my "Luther" breakfast sandwich. The woman behind the counter made sure to make it exactly how I wanted. It was her first time making a breakfast sandwich with a donut instead of a bagel, she eventually understood the assignment. 24 your cravings
Gateway Croissant is a coffee/pastry/sandwich shop that provides 24/7 service from a dainty lil' storefront at the intersection of Golden Gate Avenue & Larkin Street (the NE corner, to be exact) on the Southern edge of the infamous Tenderloin District. While being known to many as just another of myriad corners used by SF's "open air market" drug dealers, the hyperlocal community has a special place in their hearts (and stomachs) for the only 24-hour made to order joint left in the TL. From the wire variet
24-hour donut shop right in heart of SF, in the city's Tenderloin neighborhood. The neighborhood can be pretty sketchy at night, but the grandma who works the overnight doesn't let the riff-raff in, and the donuts etc are amazing. Some of the best donuts in the Bay.
I bought a chicken salad and a piece of cheesecake from 2/11/25 from here the guy and gurl is nice to me .
I just passed by on my work break and stopped in for the first time I ordered the turkey egg and cheese croissant and an apple fritter and pumpkin pie I?m definitely going back the croissant was delicious and I?m sure so will be the fritter and pie
Reliable whenever we need a late night snack. They are open 24/7 365. Even if there is a lot of customers there's never too long of a wait. Staff and people behind the counter are always pleasant and nice to conversate quick salutations or just Hi How are You? Very Nice People.
This family-owned place has great coffee and pastries. The location is not scenic and there's no longer any indoor seating, but the owners are charming, hard-working people and the quality of the coffee and all the types of pastries I've ever ordered has been excellent. This used to be my go-to meeting place when I worked in the neighborhood before the pandemic.
The cinnamon one is just my loveeeerrrrr! I?ll marry to it one day??
Without a doubt, these are the BEST pastries and donuts in the City. They are delicious, freshly made, and reasonably priced. This little hole in the wall is straight forward, totally no frills, but you won't need them, since you have the City's best breakfast carbs, hot and ready with a cup of coffee, out the door FAST, so even if you're already late, you can still stop by for breakfast. This place is open all night, too. It's perfect.
Their glazed donut was the best donut I had while in San Francisco. I wasn't impressed by their ham and cheese croissant. The area is pretty awful. I walked there which felt sketchy in the daytime and I am not sure if I would've even stopped and parked my rental car if I had driven.
I'm literally in love with this place.. I'm particularly partial to the turkey, egg & cheese croissant ??!! The selections here seem to be endless ie., donuts(every kind you want), donut holes, cinnamon rolls & fruit bowls, just to name a few of my favs.. Furthermore although I don't drink coffee I notice they have multiple choices & each patron seems to be totally satisfied ????.. I definitely give them a great big high???? & a ??!! Still the greatest bakery in this San Francisco town????????!!
I'd rate this place four stars instead of five solely due to its location. The neighborhood's drug issues can be a hassle to deal with while there. However, the staff is commendable?they work diligently, exhibit great patience, and strive for order accuracy. Plus, the apple turnovers are exceptional. Before the pandemic, they used to offer Kona coffee from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., but due to cost-cutting measures, it's no longer available.
Title: A Beacon of Light in a Darkness That Consumed Me Rating: ????? Review: I never thought that a simple visit to a donut shop could restore my faith in humanity but that's exactly what happened when I stumbled upon this heavenly oasis amidst the darkest chapter of my life. Let me share my story of how this place became my lifeline a beacon of light that saved me from the abyss. As a wrongly accused prisoner my existence was nothing short of a nightmare. I endured starvation relentless beatings and u
The owner works hard ,she remembers your order and your face..the elephant in the room is the junk addled zombies that congregate outside and crowd the place when their welfare arrives and think nothing of taking 30m to order a donut ....luckily if your a regular you'll get your order before the bus comes!! Hardest worker in S.F
The establishment is quite small but the lines and wait times was long. Look ahead at the menu and be ready to order, receive, pay, and take it to-go. Service is prompt and you can find options around the area to sit and eat.
I've lived a block away on Larkin for a little over a decade and of all the local businesses gateway croissant is one of my favorites. The family that run this establishment are sweet/efficient. The donuts, sandwiches and croissants are all tasty and priced well. While it's true the city has allowed the surrounding area to descend into chaos these folks treat everyone who enters with respect. Keep up the good work y'all!!
Fresh, yummy and delicious! Open at the earliest if hours. I'm a big fan of the dozen donut holes and a maple log at 4:00 am. Their a.m. Cashier is quite charming and generous with their patience and delicious food. Yummiest Sunday morning treat. ADDICTING ?? !
What a shame this splendid little cafe has to subsist in such a grimy section of town. Their croissants and coffee have to be the best I've experienced. Only problem is getting there and walking past the armies of the undead and steering yourself in case you should step into their leavings and gifts. I hope this place will be here for a long time to come.
Place doesn't inspire the most trust, but don't let that fool you. Especially given how cheap everything is. They have a lot of great stuff and it's all very yummy. Their ham and cheese croissants are my favorite quick breakfast treats! Great donut holes as well.
I got egg n cheese croissant with a donut and coffee. The sandwich was delicious, but nothing fancy. Donuts was enough for my sweet tooth. The coffee selection is great and 2 bucks for large. Amazing. It ain't pretty over here, but the price for what you get is unbeatable. Would come back anytime.
It's funny cause years ago one late night I had a horrible experience concerning customer service here, vowed ID never ever spend and I didn't for a long while then one day I really wanted a donut and since then I've been treated so well by some of the Asian lady angels that work there. Seriously i think possibly the womennof my dreams works there, but I digress great donuts. Great great.
It's a donut, not a French pastry. That said, it's always good and the staff are always friendly. 5 to 7 coffee varieties available any given day starting at $1.60 for the small. I hear their sandwiches are excellent, but I haven't tried one yet.
Their twisted caramel is what you need , wormer up .
I shouldn't be sharing these secrets.... THE BEST cinnamon twists around. They are always out of them. I love the blueberry scones... coffee is reasonable and I love the selection of cakes and salads too! However tea is over priced... and don't try to get two bags cuz it will cost u another 2 bucks.... the women seem unfriendly but they are just busy firmly running their shop on the loosest block in sf, sharing the sidewalk and customers with Hondurans running the opiate/stimulate trade. Watch your wallet!
I get breakfast there 3 to 4 days a week and they are always awesome even throwing some ham to my dog if she's with me. Don't be stingy and tip them. If you're one of these people who don't tip , don't eat out and if you do anyways be prepared to be remembered since you might not get decent service next time. Tip well
My late night go too. Food is amazing. Ppl are super niice!! Area is safe don?t trip about the homeless.
Best apple turnovers and butterflies on the planet, hands down!! Most of the gals that work here are at least mildly pleasant as they serve the customers, but a couple of them can be a bit less than friendly, especially if you appear to be a "street person". The toll of that the stress that is created from dealing with the TL Looney's 24/7 does tend to show at times. Be nice to these ladies, they deal with a lot, 24 hours per day. And I, for one, appreciate that!
Very convenient bakery that is open 24/7 and serves some of the best pastries in the whole city. All of which are always extremely fresh...Never have I come here and received anything even slightly stale, no matter what time u are there even 3-4am nothing but the freshest! I will say the only thing I could point out that would be negative is that the employees here are not the friendliest people when it comes to customer service but I believe a lot of that also has to do with their location. The fact that t
These people deal with a lot of B.S. because it's their location. So they can't run things like a normal coffee shop. Restroom? No, because they can't. What they do have is great sandwiches and quick service. You will also respect them for operating a business in the worst part of the tenderloin. These employees are underpaid and underappreciated.
I had some business in the court house building today and I stepped in Gateway Croissant for a coffee and a donut. This place is run down, it's not cute, it's not nice, but I swear I had the best donut since coming to USA three years ago. I hate American donuts. But this one was clearly freshly baked and it was HEAVEN. Coffee was super hot which I loved, too! I'm going to fantasize about this donut every time I'll crave one:)
This small gem is quietly serving the best donuts I've had in years! 10/10 highly recommend. Just make sure to come armed if past sunset.
This is the nicest place in [or on the edges of] the Tenderloin. Good bakery products [the stuffed croissants are to die for but the doctor told me to lay off or I will]; excellent coffee [I like the Colombian on the far right]. It's not a great area, even though the federal building is right across the street, but Nguyen does her best to keep order and has a good eye for spotting the miscreants. "You, you, I see you. Get out now!" Go in three times, and I bet they'll remember you the next time. I wor
Great donuts WHEN THERE GOOD!!! Works attitudes weren't all that great but it san franpsyco!
This place is a small, family run, hole in the wall coffee and donut shop. No frills. Don't come here looking for gourmet coffee and specialty donuts. But if you want a solid cup of coffee and good old fashioned donut, this is the place. It's cash only and that's posted various places.
Employees are EXTREMELY rude & discriminate customers via race &/or apparel commonly assume customers are "homeless". Also not good at filling special orders (i.e. bagel +butter +small portion cream cheese +heavy jelly) usually making it the exact opposite of how ordered ( i'm beginning to believe it's intentional) & if u want your $$$ back they'll give it back w/ the understanding that they no longer will accept your business/$$$
One of my favorite places to get a cheap quick snack or a hot cup of coffee. The neighborhood is rough and the staff can be a little tough but they are really nice and kind as long as you are too. Bacon egg and cheese croissant is my go to sandwich! Enjoy
This place is the complete definition of Hustle. Sometimes you walk in on a drug deal so times you walk in on major Donuts tell sometimes you walk in on a robbery and yet they're still open a community staple where else would they drug dealers in the drug addicts get the sugar fix if you can get to this place first thing in the morning it's worth the donuts the coffee is always a choice the self-service areas usually covered with people who have scabs to needles on their analysis of the ones that scary Away
Owner told me, after placing an order, that they only accepted cash. She suggested using the ATM machine at the rear of the restaurant. I turned around to use the cash machine. The unit printed a receipt, telling me $20 had been debited from my checking account in addition to a $2.95 fee - but the machine was out of cash. After returning to the elderly Chinese woman at the counter - the same woman who advised me she only accepted cash after placing my order - she said "It's not my machine, it's not my prob
Gateway Croissant is a great place to grab a snack, cup of coffee or sandwich. It is open 24 hours & they keep the store very clean. Here they serve 5 types of coffee and you can purchase a large coffee for less than half the price of a cup of Philz coffee across the street. The employees are attentive & friendly. My friends & I nicknamed one longtime employee the "Oh, hi!" guy after the way he greets customers.
One of the few 24 hr locations in a post covid world. When you are getting donuts between midnight and 4 am, pretty much anything hot is good.
While nothing fancy, this basic little cafe shop has good sandwiches, fresh fruit and tasty baked goods. Grab coffee and a donut for breakfast or a croissant sandwich for lunch. Staff was friendly, service was fairly quick. Good amount of seating. Cash only though.
I love making a pit stop at Gateway late at night or when I'm up early in the morning... They're always fresh and delicious. Several types of coffee, drinks, chocolate milk... And best of all are the neon signs that flicker and cast a soothing glow.
I just happened to be in the area making some time for an appointment, and dropped by to have a little something. I had a ham and cheese croissant that was substantial and delicious. The service is good and corteous, and the place is kept very clean. The clientele can be very ecclectic, but that's San Francisco for you!
Clean. Family owned friendly staff. Large selection of drinks like soda, milk, juice on top of all the different tea's. Always have 5-6 kinds of coffee (including decaf, thank you) The donuts are fresh even near the end of the day (dunno how they do that) Fruit salad's, cake's, sandwiches, they even made me thai ice tea before! Now there's a Philz across the street, who's iced coffee is to die for but Gateway will ALWAYS be a go to spot! A++
Best donuts in the Tenderloin... So irresistibly flaky warm fresh out of the oven, the service is impeccable prices very reasonable I don't recommend going to any other donut shop except for this one most definitely the best in the tenderloin
Donuts here are always fresh and staff is very friendly. This place is located on Golden Gate and Larkin Street. Needless to say the area is not very pleasing. However The Donut Shop is open 24 hours a day.
The donuts were excellent, and friendly service. The guy who works at the counter knows me since I was 3. I recommend this place as a excellent donut and coffee shop with friendly people, and a fair amount of seating.
Came here and ordered 4 beverages, lady made three and yelled at me like I made the mistake ?? won't be going back.
The staff are savages, I mean putting up with all the late night early morning antics that the heartbeat of the tenderloin provides. And often one handed, though the staff is overwhelmed and hot tempered. I can't help stopping by whenever I'm in the city. (Plus the black market outside has anything u might need)
Stale donuts. The woman behind the counter wouldn't exchange my holes for some fresh ones. She also was rude, uninterested in helping. Not cool lady, NOT cool. Stay away, bros. Yum Yum is where it always has, and always will, be at.
Americano, Latte, sugar donuts and glazed donuts are amazing!! Home made taste and fair prices. Highly recommended
if I'm buying breakfast food out, either for myself or with friends, I always go to this place, everything on their menu is delcious and cheap, the breakfast sandwhiches are huge, and the iced coffee is only $2.75, the place is cash only, but its well worth it because the prices are so reasonable and the food is so good.
Great Place.Good selection of Coffees. Affordable. Donuts -Fresh made Sandwiches, Breakfast sandwiches, and much more.Oh ,and I believe they are Open 24 Hours
Favorite place to get donuts. They're old school, no frills, delicious donuts for an amazing price. You really cannot go wrong.
Love the donuts and coffee (24 hours) Corner action a low point Cant fault the place Very cool owners cant (wont) chase homeless off They have my respect
I live this corner donut shop. It's always dependable, fresh and fast food with hot coffee.
Good donuts but if you're not ready for a rough environment of homeless people I suggest you find somewhere else to go.
The donuts are fine but pastries are the real reason to visit (specifically the flaky, cinnamon twist!) WISH THEY WOULD PUT ICING ON THEIR RAISIN SNAILS THOUGH, PLEASE!!....
Decent donuts bagels and coffee. There are more homeless in this area than pedestrians and it doesn't feel very safe.
fast service, good food, and nice people. Need I say more?
By far one of the most convenient places to get some grub since they are open 24/7. Egg croissant sandwiches are wicked good!
The ladys are like family and keep you safe inside the famous dirty harry bakery if you wonder outside you better be felling lucky punk .
Love this place. It's actually open 24/7 despite what Google maps says and has very personable and relatable employees. They rock!
Place is super good and very affordable! I order from here at least twice a week and the sandwich is amazing every time!
Good food, great prices. Super buttery/flaky croissants. Highly recommend it if you're in the area.
..Always get my usual, Coffee and a bagel with cream cheese. Love their coffee. O.k service. M.W Oct 2022
I like the lady who works evenings. Day people aren't very friendly. On the plus side they're open 24 hrs.
Do not go this shop. I went to many coffeshop in San Francisco.Today, I was really angry about service. I bought $5.35 dollar. and I paid 10 dollar. But they told me they only accept 5 dollar. Service is really really horrible.
It a great place for a coffee but DONT GO at night because the people who work there assume that anybody that goes in there is going to steal something.
Great food, but the owners / managers / workers are rude and unpleasant. If it wasn't for them, I'd probably rate this place a 5 based on the food.
Great doughnuts but need to have more control of the customers getting them in and out in a proper line
Great food, owner is exceptionally crabby and rude. Would be 5 stars with better service, but the food really is exceptional.
Yeah I give it I still give it a five because when I go there it's a great service it's pretty quick ??
3 stars for being 24 hours, worker can be short at times. I would not even mention this if not for the recurrence of the issue.
Great place to have your late night sugar fix. Come have a two sweet donut and a cup of milk and off
