Ferrell?s Donut House is a true local treasure. With its nostalgic, no-frills ambiance, it captures the essence of a classic donut shop. The donuts here are consistently fresh and delicious, with a delightful range of flavors from traditional glazed to unique specialties. The coffee is solid and pairs perfectly with any donut choice. The staff at Ferrell?s are friendly and efficient, adding to the overall welcoming experience. For anyone seeking a taste of genuine, old-school donuts, Ferrell?s Donut House i
The donuts get four stars because they have cronuts, cronut holes, and great French crullers. The atmosphere is the problem. The staff aren?t particularly friendly, just kind of functional. I sometimes just drive by and don?t get out because of the zombie apocalypse is lurking around the door. It?s best to go in the day. I wish they had a better location that was opened late.
Exceptionally fresh and delicious donuts, super kind and hardworking staff, houselessness abound.
I love their old fashioned donuts and cinnamon twists. Clean environment just not aesthetically pleasing being on Ocean Street. I prefer take out.
Donuts were good but very pricey. I don't like that they only take cash, if you don't have cash on-hand you can use an ATM on-site for a $2 charge. I did try the croissant donut and was very happy, loved the texture of the donut with the light glaze.
An old Winchell's location based on the building. Definitely fresh donuts no matter what time of the day.
The donuts were amazing! Literally the best donuts ever and the shop owners were really kind. :)
Donuts are amazing!! Fresh and fluffy. Tables were kind of dirty but the donuts are worth the stop!!
This tiny little doughnut has a huge selection, so much to choose from, and the smell in there is heavenly. I selected the chocolate doughnut filled with custard, and the vanilla cream cheese muffin. So decadent and creamy.
Best doughnuts in town. A Santa Cruz staple I normally go to the other location but this one is good as well. Doughnut holes are a good price.
I went to this one because all the reviews for the one in Scotts valley says that lady's really mean. This place was great. Everyone loved the donuts the end
This is a legit donut shop with the old school vibe. Something about the way the donuts are made pleases the palate. No frills, solid product, lots of selection. I came in for the coffee because another review said it was solid. The shoppe was a step back in time (which is something I love), the sales counter was worn down from years of happy customers and sales- a classic with weathering like Willie Nelson's favorite guitar. $2.75 for a huge cup of coffee. My kid got a sweet standard donut with chocolate
Food was good , Coffee ?? too. Tables were a bit crumb filled, One worker was sweeping while I was eating close by and just brushed crumbs with his hand off the table to the floor...I'd go back but would not dine in again. 2 glazed, 1 jalape?o cheese croissant. Large coffee.
I stop here every time I come to santa cruz. The world needs more ferrell's and fewer dunkin's. Everything I've had is great.
The donuts here are SOOOO GOOD. Some real quality stuff, and their donuts are pretty big. Sometimes I crave donuts any time of the day so I?m glad it?s 24 hours ?? The blueberry donuts are my favorite!!
Open 24 hours! Cash only atm inside. The doughnuts are sooooo good. Highly recommend the cronut amazing!
If you ask Nicely they will put whipped cream on there chocolate bars. SO GOOD
Great place and good donuts. One of the few places in the bay that sell a cream filled donut even though they cut it in half. They're a bit pricey as I paid over $6 for just 3 donuts, however that seems to be all donut shops these days. The staff were friendly and fast!
Look, I don't like the health of donuts. And this is not a really impressive store. *BUT* I give it 5-stars because first of all, the donuts are truly extremely good tasting -- like really surprisingly so. Second, look at this business from a financial perspective. This poor guy clearly is not making much profit and I think he literally works and sleeps there 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (even Christmas day). But he's nice and honestly this shop provides so much value to the Santa Cruz community, espe
This place has never had a great atmosphere, but the amazing donuts used to make up for it. I returned here to get my favorite cinnamon twist (flaky stacks of phyllo dough layered with sugar and cinnamon) and was disappointed to find it not only soggy and uncrisp, but also tasted bitter.
Parking lot is filled with homeless. Then to top it off, this place ONLY ACCEPTS CASH! What is this?? The year #1? But for your convenience, there's an ATM inside the donut shop next to the front door. This way all of the transients standing outside can watch you pull out cash, as if you didn't feel unsafe enough. To top it off, Ferrell's nickle & dimes you for everything. Donuts that are included in a dozen everywhere else are an additional charge here; including jelly & cream filled donuts, along with ch
Donuts are great, late hour donuts? every time I go for late hour donuts there are always homeless that are off their rocker. I feel so bad for the guy working there. Seems like a challenging issue. Definitely try and address the issue of people loitering, and that might crests a reduction in problems and restore the feeling of safety for people trying to get their donuts.
I've literally been grabbing doughnuts from this spot for like 40 years or so. Always awesome doughnuts and always honest prices. There are a lot of heathens and riff raff that hang around the whole shop but thats usually way late when there's plenty of them. Overall a for sure stop as often as possible. No one can ever have way too many doughnuts right?!!??! See you guys soon. And thanks to you being open 24hrs . It makes it even more mandatory to stop by whenever in town.
The abundance of hobos always milling about both inside and outside undoubtedly causes a lot of business loss for this location. Andy sometimes aggravating waiting times for lottery ticket addicts is a real turn off too. But the donuts just plain Rock, especially the custard filled, the fritters, and the French crullers.
This is honestly the Greatest donuts in the entire universe! I never get tired of eating their donuts and drinking their coffee! My favorite donut is the Apple Fritter which is my "go-to" every time I go which is almost daily!
Imagine being so arrogant that you admit you liked the donuts, but rate it low because of a homeless problem this business has zero control over. This place is great. The workers are extremely nice, and the donuts are fantastic. Have some decency.
All I can say is CRONUT! Google it if you have to. Go get yourself 1 or 2 lol they have a glazed one and a sugar & cinnamon one. They have other good donuts ?? too but I have driven from Milpitas to Santa Cruz on a whim to get a Cronut. The downside is the parking lot is sketch.. if you're a scaredy-cat go during the day. Lol
Unfortunately one of the only 24 hour business in our county is no longer 24 hours ?????? Second I have been recommended the croWnut a donut made with layers of croissant and dipped in glaze.and cinnamon sugar to everyone for about e year and this morning I ordered on on 17th and on ocean and they have really gone down him thrynare no longer anything like they used to be totally terrible come.on Ferrell where is your consistency I used to count in so strongly
Get there early for a good selection of super yummy donuts, muffins, croissant , and pastries. This is a family owned place that I habitually visit every morning for a ham cheese croissant . It might not be big , new and shiny like the big chain place across the street, but you?ll see why this is were the locals get there donuts. These guys make them fresh every day on site, and if you come late at night , you can get a hot sticky donut off the cooling rack. Enjoy :)
So glad we stumbled upon this donut shop! They had my favorite donut in the world, cinnamon sugar twist. It was extremely delicious and their prices are super great, especially for area. The ladies working the counter were very kind and helpful.
Definitely the best donuts that I've ever had in town (next to the Westside Ferrell's). They have a wide variety of donuts for very reasonable prices, although they selection depends somewhat on time of day. I would particularly recommend the old fashioned donuts that have a great texture, and their glazed donuts that have a very good coating. I'm glad they wee able to drive away the Dunkin Donuts that was across the street
Strongly disagree when they charge 18% service fee for a family of 6 or more.they should be thankful that a big crowd of people come to eat.and spend a few hundred dollars.
Well last night I had a massive craving for Fresh Donuts. I drove by a big box Donut House on the same street, that was crazy busy...came in here to Farrells!! I was so Happy to find the employee stepping right up with a smile & filling our order, he was so nice! Also he was so patient & very polite in letting us choose several different types of Yummy Looking Treats. Our Donuts were so Good, Deliciously Fresh & Tasty, we totally scarfed them down!! All so Wonderfully Delicious, wished we bought more!!
I googled nearest donut shop to us since we were on vacation and this place looked the best - then we tasted the donuts, very delicious and had my Grandsons approval
My review isn't for the donuts or coffee. The parking lot was the issue. Lots of homeless people loitering, did not feel safe being there. I didn't even make it into the place. Definitely not going back until they do something about it.
Cash only; donuts were okay, nothing particularly notable to my taste
These donuts are divine. And they are open late. The buttermilk donuts are sooo dang good. We also reccomend the maple bar. The staff is always friendly and welcoming.
LOVE THIS PLACE! Open 24 hours, great selection at great prices! My guy and I make a stop here two or three times a week, leave with a bag full of fresh donuts and never pay more than ten bucks. Can't beat it for a late night treat!
Avoid this place like the plague. As we walked up two homeless dudes had their pants about to start peeing onto the side of the building. No idea why we went in anyways. Decided to buy a 1/2 dozen but could only pick from the bottom 2 shelves which held the most basic donuts and even that was limited to certain ones. Wouldn't let us pay with a card but no sign saying "cash only" anywhere on site. Shouldn't force people to use cash during a damn pandemic. Dude was rude as hell to me but very polite to my bf.
Reliable, fast, friendly service (at 11 am on Tuesdays, anyway.) Coffee is always good and they have a mocha-chocolate machine. I can't choose a particular doughnut because they are all good, always fresh. I like the savory croissants, heated and served with a smile. They have a great variety of classic doughtnuts as well. And it always costs less than we anticipate.
The best & only 24 hr spot left in the Cruz. Tan is the greatest and deserves an award for dealing with all the riff raff of Ocean St. Tan also makes excellent earl gray tea (he puts loving care into it). Also, I thoroughly enjoy playing keno late night (until 2a.m. daily). P.S. The doughnuts are great too however, I really go here to experience Tan?s fabulous customer service.
I wanted to stop in here on my way out of your to get a doughnut. The building is old and could use some renovation but omg the doughnuts are so delicious! I'm a fan of trying places that look older and don't appeal to some. The only thing is there was a lot of homeless around. I feel for the business because it will detour ppl from wanting to stop in. The only employee working was so nice and friendly. The place seemed to have a nice steady flow of customers which made me happy to see. If your in town def
Delicious donuts at a great price. Super friendly service. Giving 5 stars because they can't do anything about this, but there are a lot of kind of sketchy looking people loitering outside their store. Don't go alone if that scares you.
This is one of my favorite nostalgic spots to stop in Santa Cruz. Back in college I lived on this road, and was frequently drawn in by the smell of freshly baked donuts on my walk home from work at 5:00AM. Nowadays, I always stop off for a blueberry donut or a chocolate maple bar to enjoy on my drive out of town - the shop is conveniently located right across from the entrance to the 1 freeway.
This place is a gem among gems. Their donuts are so fun and creative and all taste absolutely fantastic. The atmosphere is also top notch and the croissant sandwich is one of a kind. Scratchers Scratchers Scratchers 24 hour vending machine on-site and always full.
Best doughnuts in Santa Cruz for sure, family and I always stop there when we go fishing at the wharf sometimes till the a.m times. Always fresh doughnuts there, prices are best and quality is beyond standard. Hopefully next time.ill post pics of this place, small yet large selections also fresh coffee can be found here,.
great service even better donuts!! unfortunately not 24 hours anymore. always count on beyond fresh donuts killer prices!! i recommend this donut shop to anyone family and friends!!
Refused to sell me a fresh donut. I saw some donuts come out of the oven, but the worker would only sell me the stale donuts which have been sitting around. The stale donuts he was willing to sell me were horrible. Even worse quality than Safeway/Dunkin?.
Sketchy! This place attracts the homeless by the dozens! I ended parking on the street cause this place had a line going outside! Don't get me wrong the line speaks for itself cause the donuts are really delicious! ??As I was about to leave my truck to go inside I noticed a man taking a shower outside the shop so I had to roll my windows up and double lock my doors! I heard a couple on the corner arguing and cursing ??at each other, one was drinking and another was screaming at himself! Other than these d
Mostly friendly, at the least the owners are patient on a bad night. There are active outlets under the tables in the back two corners of the dining area. Just buy something, don't be a nuisance and you can charge you're phone. If you ask they will say no. There custard muffins are amazing
Sketchy Apple Fritter at 10 pm. Yes please!
I find it ironic & most honorable to share this review, while my points are at a total of '10' ??....on this Google site. For it is a tribute to a genuine heartfelt man, named T(h)en, i owe so much to in re: to my Appreciation Level & Brotherly Love. He not only has taken prime care of me for the last 40 yrs., but also endears the company hoo hoo are w/ me when i visit. Please come & experience THE FINEST bakery treats in all the Land. I mildly swear!!!?? And if donuts aren't your thing....there exists a tr
The best donut place in Santa Cruz hands down! Very cheap givem the quality. It's ope n 24 hours although I would advise to be careful especially at night since the area does not look particularly safe at that time.
We had glazed donuts and they were delightful. !!! This shop was open on Christmas evening and had limited bakery items. We ordered Cappuccino (French Vanilla Flavor) , Hot Chocolate, Butter Croissant and Glazed donut. Cappuccino - very sweet and it seemed very off for our taste. Do not recommend. Hot Chocolate - was very average. It's a okayish drink for a cold evening. Butter Croissant - was very dry and nothing buttery about it. It just felt very dry to chew. Glazed Donut - one of the crunchiest sw
The donuts are and usually freshest after 9pm, don't worry about the homeless people in the parking lot, just let the people know inside and it will be handled. You can also play lotto scratchers inside from a machine and also cash them out in the donut shop. Try the cronut glazed or cinnamon sugar one is good as well.
Best donuts in Santa Cruz. The have a location on Mission St on the West Side that is equally satisfying. Both reside in sketchy parking lots as they are open 24 hrs, and they tend to gravitate people looking for shelter during the evenings or colder months
Donuts never seem fresh. The area is sketchy too with lots of transients hangout outside. Definitely not my top 3 favorite donuts spots in Santa Cruz. I wouldn't recommend
Cronut was so good - nice glazed crispy layers in the shape of a doughnut. Good prices. Nice variety. Streusel was a little dry but the cream cheese and strawberry pastry was thick and delicious. One guy is really nice. Other times I've been there a different guy was creepily quiet and unfriendly.
I highly recommend the " croughnuts " (*crow- nuts*) ... It's a hybrid pastry combining both doughnuts and croissants.... Ask for it slightly warmed up for a life changing taste experience!
My favorite donut shop! Local tip - stop by for a late dessert, ask which donuts just came out of the oven and try whatever kind they have that are still warm. You won't be sorry, they are so delicious and practically melt in your mouth!
Farrell's donuts is absolutely second to none the best donut shop in the world hands down it's absolutely some of the most amazing fresh tasting donuts you have ever tasted even the way that they're made they are unique and different a cut above from everyone else literally you could compare it to some of the highest and donuts in the world and they would perform with the top colors I rate them and absolute five-star business speedy business speedy service polite service and they are kind people who don't h
Can't say the service was the best as I went at 11pm, but the donuts were delicious!! $2.95- dozen of donut holes, $2.25 single donut. Not sure of other prices for specialty donuts. It's a must try though!!
Would have stopped in but the people behind it shooting up was a real turn off. Pulled back out and left.
No longer the stoner donuts they once were. Not open 24/7 and prices have gotten out of control. Shame to see this happen.
It's always a cast of characters at Ferrells after 1am lol. Be prepared to meet ppl outside in the parking lot. Nothing too crazy, most ppl will leave you alone, but they will probably ask you for the most random things. As for the donuts.. Definitely great comfort food. Try the croissant crossed with a donut..the CRONUT is a whole different world of tasty! Anyways, all the donuts are pretty damn tasty and fresh! If you want late night food in Santa Cruz it's either Donuts or Jack In The Box!
The fresh donuts are amazing. I wish they still used boxes when buying multiple donuts. Putting them in bag can ruin them. Still if you get one donut you're good.
Donuts just like home! Cheap and fattening and too good. I came here many times, the service must be great because I never got my wrong item or a rude employee but i can't remember and i think thats what makes a good employee who gives me what i want without much interaction.
The cronut is the best !! I can?t wait to come back to Santa Cruz !! I?m taking 2 dozens home again !! We?re coming straight out of Clovis ca
Ferrells on Ocean is open 24/7 and the spot for donuts in town with its additional locations. Not too fancy, but a good selection for fair prices. Cash only. Milk, muffins, and sometimes savory croissants offered. Often a few unhoused hanging out here to grab a bite or coffee, but stick to themselves for the most part. Besides the donuts, Ferrells claim to fame is selling winning lottery tickets so many stop in for this reason alone. Parking available.
Donuts are great. Jelly filled powdered, blueberry & strawberry cream cheese croissant. Sorry to say but not a place to take your kids( although no where is these days ). Sidewalks could use a good pressure washing and adding a security guard to chase some of the riff raff off. Easy for me to say though, it's not like many small businesses have anything extra. Thank you Ferrels for your essential front line workers. You are doing a great job! JJC Electric- Serving Santa Cruz County
The cashier was a total prick. Threw our bag of donuts on the counter. He was very rude and confrontational. He acted as if it was a disservice to ask what kind of donut was which. He was sarcastic and had no type of people skills. Although the donuts were good we will stop at this store anymore
My favorite donut stop. The actual donut dough is delicious and sweet but not overly so. The glazed donuts don't melt like some other places, and they have strawberry frosted donuts. Take my money!!
yummy donuts - get there before noon for freshest & bestest choices. Delicious & not vegetarian!
It looks a little sketchy, but Ferrell's definitely has the best donuts in town. Really tasty. Only problem is that they're a cash-only business, so make sure to stop by the ATM first.
I love this place. For you donut lovers, they will fill any donut with custard, jelly etc upon request. Shhh don't tell anyone lol
fast service, kind staff, ATM inside, game machine and 25cent kid toys. feels like a time machine and makes u wonder how other business are charging so much for stuff these days.
Craving a cinnamon roll and coffee. Rolled in. Got two cinnamon rolls. More accurately, two rolls. Very light on the cinnamon. Won't get those again. Coffee was odd. No fake sugar. No packets of creamer or sugar. No stir sticks. Like it's barely staying in business. A waste of money.
The smells in this place are intense; bear claws, cinnamon rolls, donuts, coffee, hobos. Everything in this place creates an airy melange, some things make me wish for a breeze.
Has the best donuts in Santa Cruz, just tried their cronies & croutons holes. Omg they're heaven. I would have snapped a pic but unfortunately it didn't last long enough to do so, lol. To delicious ??
Great donuts, nice employees, homeless bums in the parking lot.
Decent donut shop, I really enjoyed my donut runs during midterm and final weeks. Some homeless people around there at night time but the owner can't do much of homeless people around donut shop, the city law protects homeless people ??
I ran in to get two chocolate donuts and two apple fritters. They were all oven fresh and warm as well. So good. I'll definitely be going back if I'm in the area.
Great donuts, some of the best we've had. However the homeless situation is BAD
Good donuts but bad vibe. It gets old when you get out of your vehicle and are instantly rushed and someone is asking for change or cigarette or gas money it?s always something. Get a job.
I visited and got a chocolate old fashioned donut that was still warm at the time. It was crispy and overall a good donut. I?d recommend it, especially if you can get it fresh!
Ferrell's is the Santa Cruz local donut shop. Open 24 hours, it is a bit shady with a few characters around but the donuts are worth it and cheap. Don't bother with Dunkin across the street they do not compare.
I love this place usually. But was a little disappointed no plain donuts available. Still a great place donuts fresh and hot a couple of times a day.
Love this place u can eat donuts and gamble all at same time ppl talk about the homelessness yes there is alot of homeless ppl like myself and we appreciate being able to go somewhere without discrimination homeless ppl are from the same universe as everyone else who do have feelings I have a associates degree yet I'm homeless no fault to my own but it happened and the ppl I've met are more genuine than most ppl who talk about us. They would probably be the first ones to help fix ur tire if needed at no cos
