The donuts get four stars because they have cronuts, cronut holes, and great French crullers. The atmosphere is the problem. The staff aren?t particularly friendly, just kind of functional. I sometimes just drive by and don?t get out because of the zombie apocalypse is lurking around the door. It?s best to go in the day. I wish they had a better location that was opened late.

Donuts were good but very pricey. I don't like that they only take cash, if you don't have cash on-hand you can use an ATM on-site for a $2 charge. I did try the croissant donut and was very happy, loved the texture of the donut with the light glaze.

This tiny little doughnut has a huge selection, so much to choose from, and the smell in there is heavenly. I selected the chocolate doughnut filled with custard, and the vanilla cream cheese muffin. So decadent and creamy.

This is a legit donut shop with the old school vibe. Something about the way the donuts are made pleases the palate. No frills, solid product, lots of selection. I came in for the coffee because another review said it was solid. The shoppe was a step back in time (which is something I love), the sales counter was worn down from years of happy customers and sales- a classic with weathering like Willie Nelson's favorite guitar. $2.75 for a huge cup of coffee. Food was good , Coffee ?? too. Tables were a bit crumb filled, One worker was sweeping while I was eating close by and just brushed crumbs with his hand off the table to the floor...I'd go back but would not dine in again. 2 glazed, 1 jalape?o cheese croissant. Large coffee.

Look, I don't like the health of donuts. This place has never had a great atmosphere, but the amazing donuts used to make up for it. I returned here to get my favorite cinnamon twist (flaky stacks of phyllo dough layered with sugar and cinnamon) and was disappointed to find it not only soggy and uncrisp, but also tasted bitter.

Parking lot is filled with homeless. Then to top it off, this place ONLY ACCEPTS CASH! What is this?? The year #1? But for your convenience, there's an ATM inside the donut shop next to the front door. Donuts are great, late hour donuts? every time I go for late hour donuts there are always homeless that are off their rocker. I feel so bad for the guy working there. Seems like a challenging issue. Definitely try and address the issue of people loitering, and that might crests a reduction in problems and restore the feeling of safety for people trying to get their donuts.

I've literally been grabbing doughnuts from this spot for like 40 years or so. Always awesome doughnuts and always honest prices. There are a lot of heathens and riff raff that hang around the whole shop but thats usually way late when there's plenty of them. Overall a for sure stop as often as possible. The abundance of hobos always milling about both inside and outside undoubtedly causes a lot of business loss for this location. Andy sometimes aggravating waiting times for lottery ticket addicts is a real turn off too. But the donuts just plain Rock, especially the custard filled, the fritters, and the French crullers.

This is honestly the Greatest donuts in the entire universe! I never get tired of eating their donuts and drinking their coffee! My favorite donut is the Apple Fritter which is my "go-to" every time I go which is almost daily!

Get there early for a good selection of super yummy donuts, muffins, croissant , and pastries. This is a family owned place that I habitually visit every morning for a ham cheese croissant . It might not be big , new and shiny like the big chain place across the street, but you?ll see why this is were the locals get there donuts. These guys make them fresh every day on site, and if you come late at night , you can get a hot sticky donut off the cooling rack. Enjoy :)

So glad we stumbled upon this donut shop! They had my favorite donut in the world, cinnamon sugar twist. It was extremely delicious and their prices are super great, especially for area. The ladies working the counter were very kind and helpful.

Definitely the best donuts that I've ever had in town (next to the Westside Ferrell's). They have a wide variety of donuts for very reasonable prices, although they selection depends somewhat on time of day. I would particularly recommend the old fashioned donuts that have a great texture, and their glazed donuts that have a very good coating. Strongly disagree when they charge 18% service fee for a family of 6 or more.they should be thankful that a big crowd of people come to eat.and spend a few hundred dollars.

Well last night I had a massive craving for Fresh Donuts. I drove by a big box Donut House on the same street, that was crazy busy...came in here to Farrells!! I was so Happy to find the employee stepping right up with a smile & filling our order, he was so nice! Also he was so patient & very polite in letting us choose several different types of Yummy Looking Treats. Our Donuts were so Good, Deliciously Fresh & Tasty, we totally scarfed them down!! All so Wonderfully Delicious, wished we bought more!!

I googled nearest donut shop to us since we were on vacation and this place looked the best - then we tasted the donuts, very delicious and had my Grandsons approval

My review isn't for the donuts or coffee. The parking lot was the issue. Lots of homeless people loitering, did not feel safe being there. I didn't even make it into the place. Definitely not going back until they do something about it.

LOVE THIS PLACE! Open 24 hours, great selection at great prices! My guy and I make a stop here two or three times a week, leave with a bag full of fresh donuts and never pay more than ten bucks. Can't beat it for a late night treat!

Avoid this place like the plague. As we walked up two homeless dudes had their pants about to start peeing onto the side of the building. No idea why we went in anyways. Decided to buy a 1/2 dozen but could only pick from the bottom 2 shelves which held the most basic donuts and even that was limited to certain ones. Wouldn't let us pay with a card but no sign saying "cash only" anywhere on site. Shouldn't force people to use cash during a damn pandemic. Dude was rude as hell to me but very polite to my bf.

Reliable, fast, friendly service (at 11 am on Tuesdays, anyway.) Coffee is always good and they have a mocha-chocolate machine. I can't choose a particular doughnut because they are all good, always fresh. I like the savory croissants, heated and served with a smile. They have a great variety of classic doughtnuts as well. And it always costs less than we anticipate.

The best & only 24 hr spot left in the Cruz. Tan is the greatest and deserves an award for dealing with all the riff raff of Ocean St. Tan also makes excellent earl gray tea (he puts loving care into it). Also, I thoroughly enjoy playing keno late night (until 2a.m. daily). P.S. The doughnuts are great too however, I really go here to experience Tan?s fabulous customer service.

I wanted to stop in here on my way out of your to get a doughnut. The building is old and could use some renovation but omg the doughnuts are so delicious! I'm a fan of trying places that look older and don't appeal to some. The only thing is there was a lot of homeless around. I feel for the business because it will detour ppl from wanting to stop in. This is one of my favorite nostalgic spots to stop in Santa Cruz. Back in college I lived on this road, and was frequently drawn in by the smell of freshly baked donuts on my walk home from work at 5:00AM. Nowadays, I always stop off for a blueberry donut or a chocolate maple bar to enjoy on my drive out of town - the shop is conveniently located right across from the entrance to the 1 freeway.

This place is a gem among gems. Their donuts are so fun and creative and all taste absolutely fantastic. The atmosphere is also top notch and the croissant sandwich is one of a kind. Scratchers Scratchers Scratchers 24 hour vending machine on-site and always full.

Best doughnuts in Santa Cruz for sure, family and I always stop there when we go fishing at the wharf sometimes till the a.m times. Mostly friendly, at the least the owners are patient on a bad night. There are active outlets under the tables in the back two corners of the dining area. Just buy something, don't be a nuisance and you can charge you're phone. If you ask they will say no. There custard muffins are amazing

We had glazed donuts and they were delightful. !!! This shop was open on Christmas evening and had limited bakery items. The donuts are and usually freshest after 9pm, don't worry about the homeless people in the parking lot, just let the people know inside and it will be handled. You can also play lotto scratchers inside from a machine and also cash them out in the donut shop. Try the cronut glazed or cinnamon sugar one is good as well.

Best donuts in Santa Cruz. The have a location on Mission St on the West Side that is equally satisfying. Both reside in sketchy parking lots as they are open 24 hrs, and they tend to gravitate people looking for shelter during the evenings or colder months

Cronut was so good - nice glazed crispy layers in the shape of a doughnut. Good prices. Nice variety. Streusel was a little dry but the cream cheese and strawberry pastry was thick and delicious. One guy is really nice. Other times I've been there a different guy was creepily quiet and unfriendly.

It's always a cast of characters at Ferrells after 1am lol. Be prepared to meet ppl outside in the parking lot. Nothing too crazy, most ppl will leave you alone, but they will probably ask you for the most random things. As for the donuts.. Definitely great comfort food. Try the croissant crossed with a donut..the CRONUT is a whole different world of tasty! Anyways, all the donuts are pretty damn tasty and fresh! If you want late night food in Santa Cruz it's either Donuts or Jack In The Box!

Ferrells on Ocean is open 24/7 and the spot for donuts in town with its additional locations. Not too fancy, but a good selection for fair prices. Cash only. Milk, muffins, and sometimes savory croissants offered. Often a few unhoused hanging out here to grab a bite or coffee, but stick to themselves for the most part. Besides the donuts, Ferrells claim to fame is selling winning lottery tickets so many stop in for this reason alone. Parking available.

Donuts are great. Jelly filled powdered, blueberry & strawberry cream cheese croissant. Sorry to say but not a place to take your kids( although no where is these days ). Sidewalks could use a good pressure washing and adding a security guard to chase some of the riff raff off. Easy for me to say though, it's not like many small businesses have anything extra. The cashier was a total prick. Threw our bag of donuts on the counter. He was very rude and confrontational. He acted as if it was a disservice to ask what kind of donut was which. He was sarcastic and had no type of people skills. Although the donuts were good we will stop at this store anymore

My favorite donut stop. The actual donut dough is delicious and sweet but not overly so. The glazed donuts don't melt like some other places, and they have strawberry frosted donuts. Take my money!!

Craving a cinnamon roll and coffee. Rolled in. Got two cinnamon rolls. More accurately, two rolls. Very light on the cinnamon. Won't get those again. Coffee was odd. No fake sugar. No packets of creamer or sugar. No stir sticks. Like it's barely staying in business. A waste of money.
