Federal Donuts & Chicken on East Market is a true gem for food lovers in Philly. Their crispy fried chicken is perfectly seasoned, juicy, and always hits the spot. The donuts are a delightful treat?made fresh, with creative flavors that change daily. Whether you?re craving savory or sweet, this place has it all. The staff is friendly, the vibe is laid-back, and the food is consistently fantastic. Don?t miss the honey donut with your chicken?pure bliss!

imagine paying almost $9 for 3 tenders and they give you 2.5 minuscule pieces... i didn't have to imagine! good food but the price is absolutely not worth it

The server was nice and knowledgeable about the menu options. I got a breakfast chicken sandwich which was okay all I could taste was the spice. The donut was really good not too sweet.

Honestly, I stopped by Federal Donuts as a "must try" while visiting Philadelphia... kind of expecting it to be overrated in that regard... but I actually really loved my donuts and did find it to be a few notches above a lot of other donuts / donut places I have enjoyed over the years. I got 2 fancy donuts and 1 hot and fresh, and all three were very yummy, but the hot and fresh (in my case a cinnamon brown sugar) donut was especially delicious and definitely what I would recommend (their hot and fresh don

A solid experience from my perspective. I probably benefited from their being a local chain as I needed a place that opened before 8am, and most other coffee/doughnut shops within walking distance (I?m game to walk fairly far) didn?t open until 8 on Sundays. The wait was short, and the staff were very nice to my drowsy self. I got the chocolate truffle and s?mores donuts with a 12oz mocha and all of it was money well spent. I?ll likely return during the remainder of my time here.

Best donuts I had on my recent visit to Philly. Tried both the strawberry lavender and vanilla bean donuts. The za'atar hash browns and the breakfast sandwich were both great as well.

Very tasty donuts! Tried the cherry cheesecake, s'mores, pumpkin, chocolate and old fashioned. I was most impressed with the cherry cheesecake. Just sweet enough without being overpowering. Nice fluffy center with a crisp crust. Would definitely get more

Every time we get off from work, we would like to visit here and grab some donuts. They all taste good, and also the expensive one is really fancy. They also provided chicken nuggets and wings.

Famous donuts that live up to their reputation. Classic flavors and seasonal varieties, as well as game-day flavored ?Eagles? specialties. Try the donut latte for a festive jolt.

Stick to the chicken sandwiches! We had never been and went for breakfast. We ended up getting the breakfast sandwich, and it wasn?t very good. It had bacon instead of chicken, and the frozen egg patty wasn?t very good. We also tried one of the glazed donuts, and it was dry and cakey. I?d go back just to try one of their chicken sandwiches.

I literally have no idea why it has 4.4 rating. Is it because of the service? I tried BBQ chicken sandwich, and it is way too salty like they want you to have high blood pressure or do the kidney dialysis. OMG! For people who want to enjoy a simple sandwich, please go to a different place. The chicken would cry out loud if it learns that they make chicken sandwich so bad. I also got a donut, and it is not bad but I won?t go there just for donut.

I?ve been meaning to try this place for a very long time and it certainly did not disappoint. I decided to try the hot and fresh variety for my first go since it was freezing outside on my walk here. Def a good decision. The donuts were so warm and fresh they were absolutely delicious. My appetite only allowed my try the Cinnamon and Cookies and Cream this time, but I will absolutely be back to try some more varieties asap.

One of the best fried chicken sandwiches I've ever had - definitely lived up to the hype! And it's cheap too! We tried three different chocolate donuts and the old-fashioned chocolate donut was our favorite.

Had a cortado and donut for breakfast and went back for a chicken sandwich for lunch! Has my 2 fav things; chicken and donuts!

after long morning of walking, finding Federal Donuts open with some seats open was the welcome sign i needed. the coffee is served hot which was much needed on a a particularly cold winter day. paired that coffee with an old fashioned glazed doughnut. the coffee was standard good coffee, fresh drip coffee is always a win in my book. the doughnut had the right amount of sweetness and softness without being saccharine or mushy. the space is very clean and neat. there's seatings for groups as well as these ol

Food is trash. The donuts as dessert are good. They should stick to that because the fries and tenders are a waste of ??

These doughnuts are so tasty, you will enjoy it in every bite, fluffy consistency, and the amount of sugar coating was perfect. Federal Donuts has such a good doughnut when we went, they runout of the most popular items. The cashier was incredible and sweet.

Donuts are super soft, fresh and delicious, also not too sweet. The girl at the register was an angel.

Loved the chicken sandwich and cake donuts. Only complaint was that they said they were out of classic donuts even though a fresh batch was sitting but saved for tomorrow.

This place is just what you expect from a Federal Donuts, but now in a new convenient location at Market East! There's tables for outdoor dining and it's also close to the general Market East outdoor area. Today I tried the Cookies and Cream donut and it tasted like a fried oreo. Would recommend!

Cinnamon donuts are da BEST! SO GOOD.

I?ve been craving donuts for a while and I was in the area so I just decided why not. I?m grateful for the person who took my order because I didn?t know which one I wanted and I just took so long to order. Greedy ole me went for the half dozen lol. I also got a hot latte (wasn?t really a fan, although because it was so fresh it made for a great balance for the sweet donuts).

Great place to grab a bite. Coffee was burnt but their chicken more than made up for it (Probably some of the best chicken I've had). Donuts are very tasty with a home made flair.

So Sunday was my first time trying Federal Donuts and I must say I'm in love!!!! The cinnamon, cookie's and cream, and strawberry lavender donuts were hot and tasty. I went back and tried the banana maple and I don't think I'll ever go to another donut shop but this one????

I always have an amazing time and get phenomenal food here. While they are known for their donuts, the thing that brings him back time after time is the amazing customer service I received. They are always so nice and helpful. I highly recommend their seasonal donuts. in addition, there?s zataar hashbrowns are their sleeper hit. I look forward to eating here again soon.

Stopped by and grabbed a coffee and donut so that we could also rest before continuing a walk to lunch. Located close to Reading Terminal Market (about 2 blocks away). Has a decent amount of seating and it's air conditioned. The Raspberry Ginger Donut was good and not too sweet. The raspberry glaze was actually more on the tart side. Good with an iced coffee.

The donut is too sweet for me. :D. I know! I know! Donuts are sweet. :P that is why I still give it 5 stars. My husband said it is good. Also I love the presentation of the donut. I can see a lot of love was put in to make the donuts! We had pumpkin spice latte donut. It was very cakey, but moist. I liked my coffee. This is a great way to wake up in the morning.

Best hot donuts I've had in my life? Quite possibly. The flavours are actually all different and very unique, service was fine and the donuts are droolworthy. Would eat again! Man times!

So so good!! The donuts are the perfect size super cute and yummy, what else could you ask for. We also got the on tap latte and drip coffee- loved them both!!

The food is super salty. I have sensitivity to salt and thought it was just me. My GF said it was salty also which basically tells me if I?m over reacting or it truly is bad. Also never trying this type of food from this location the wings were maybe over cooked or it?s just a different style than what I?m used to. Meat was good crust was way way too crunchy and over cooked. Service was perfect no complaints to staff.

Made to order fresh donuts were great. Black and Tan cold brew and draft latte was also fast and delicious.

I was surprised how good the food was and the customer service was excellent. Inside has nice seating.

Not sure why people say it's the best chicken sandwich ?? the chicken is dry and the batter was hard as rock, donut ?? is so so

Nice place to sit and relax for a short break morning, wide selection of varieties donuts and drinks recommended give it a try

Greeted by a lovely smell Not far from the Liberty Bell A chicken sandwich so neat And a donut so sweet The experience was swell

Delicious donuts!! Chicken salad was also good.

Staying at a nearby hotel, I ventured out to find some breakfast. Walked in here and got a breakfast sandwich. Took roughly 5 mins max to make, and it was delicious. Had the best nap since grade school after

First morning in Philadelphia Went for a stroll looking for a coffee and happened to stumble on this place As soon as we walked through the door we were greeted with a warm genuine "good morning, how are you today" from a very enthusiastic woman with blue hair Not only did we get great coffee and fantastic donuts but the customer service knocks both out of the park

The guy at the front desk is nice but the espresso sucks

Wow wow wow this chicken sandwich has that classic Korean CRUNCH. Delicious!

Chicken tenders were crispy and fresh, honey donut was eh but they have a bigger selection to chose from

had a real good buffalo sandwich here. They also threw in a bunch of freebie donuts. The staff person was not super cordial, but wasnt to bad that i was put off. Place is super clean and food is good. good prices too for the area.

Friendly staff. Donuts were fresh and delicious!

So disappointing. We dined at the original location, when it first opened and it was the best chicken and donuts we ever had. So good, we went back twice before leaving town, and still talk about it. Fast forward to today and it?s become a facsimile of its former self. The chicken is tasty, but no where near the flavor and exquisiteness of the original. Donuts might as well have come from a box at a run of the mill supermarket. Sad.

Idk what y'all have going but looking the other way a people using a family's SNAP Benefits is super unethical. Getting in contact with the state. I don't t even live out there!!!

Ughhhhhh so gooooooooooood. I need more. It ranks top 4 donut shops I've been to in my life and let me tell you, I eat a lot of donuts.

I would have to say I got the chicken and donut and it was pretty good. make sure you get a sauce though, I got plain and it wasn't all that but edible.

I couldn?t have been anymore DISAPPOINTED!!!! 1) 6 tiny chicken wings $11.00 2) a tiny cup coleslaw $ 2.50 3) bottle of water $ 2.00 Came out to 15.50 plus tax and put a dollar in the tip jar and left hungry ARE YOU SERIOUS I REMEMBER WHEN YOU USE TO GET A BOX OF 6 wings with the thighs more than I could eat for less money I got less than an appetizer for 11.00 dollars

Holy moly the donuts are so good!!! I tried the cherry cheesecake. Cookies and cream, and the nutty buddy one. I forgot the name but I loved it! Tasted like it was glazed with peanut butter fudge. My only regret is not trying the chicken too!

FIRST TIME trying Federal Donuts because I was told they had a good chicken sandwich but NOTHING about the sandwich lived up to the expectation from my client :-( I was extremely disappointed at how overcooked the chicken was(VERY Hard fried & difficult to enjoy)?I only gave 3 stars because of the warm & welcoming service I received from the young lady at the register; But I had every intention to return and have the cook remake my sandwich. The inside of the chicken was stringy and just not a appetizing lu

We only stopped for coffee. It's a nice place. I really liked sitting outside and sipping coffee. It has a good vibe. I highly recommend Federal Donuts & Chicken

Really, like donuts don't like, they don't do actual chicken pieces anymore but strips .

It beats Dunkin? Donuts, but I was expecting a ?Stan?s style donut? if you have ever been to chicago then you know the reference. The cashier couldn?t even explain the different flavor profiles of the donuts and there isn?t a description of them so unless you know what your doing, I would suggest googling it. Also they don?t have like a chicken and waffle sandwich it?s like donuts and think for lunch we should have chicken.. sorta expected more, especially as prices rise and we get less. We need to raise o

I don't know where the 4.4 stars came from but I suspect the family and friends these people are some real fruit cakes the young woman that works at this location came outside at the patio table with a raunchy attitude wipes the table and pushes crumbs into my lap rolls her eyes and goes back inside some guy comes out later I find out that he's the manager with a careless attitude totally unprofessional people we shouldn't put up with this type of behavior don't let these people with these behavior problems

Great doughnuts and great chicken.

This review is for the breakfast sandwich. It was the weirdest, most unpleasant thing I ever had. Service was great and friendly but that breakfast sandwich should be evicted from the menu. The texture is weird. The flavor is weird. Doesn?t reflect well on the quality of the other products.

Quite a funny combination of chicken and doughnuts. I tried the doughnuts. :) They have a nice variety with different glazes, which were great. The dough was not my absolute favorite. The place has the traditional american diner vibe, which was nice!

Best Federal donuts in the city. Incredible donuts that are the best gift for the office or your classmates. Great fried chicken sandwich (if you're into that). Good coffee. Nick G is a real G, he treats me and everyone I meet here like gold every time, and hook us up with fresh good good sweetness.

My coworkers and I ordered chicken sandwiches and fries. The chicken was not fresh and it was hard and dry. The fries were okay. I didn't enjoy my meal.

This the second night in a row we've gone to Federal Donuts to get something, and they were out. Yesterday, at 7:30 pm we went there for coffee and they had run out of coffee. Mind you, they close at eight o'clock. Today, now, at 6:45 pm, we went to order some chicken tenders and french fries, and they're out of french fries How do you run a business without inventory to last till the end of your closing? Certainly not a good business practice

Wonderful donuts, great coffee, and a tremendous breakfast sammich. Seems like there's fried chicken sammiches available all day. Open on July 4, so bonus!

Delicious donuts! Good coffee. Try the latte with oat milk.

Very good chicken sandwich and donuts. They were conveniently located within our Canopy by Hilton hotel in downtown Philadelphia. The door to the restaurant was accessible through the lobby and we didn?t even have to go outside. This was a cheaper option as the breakfast was very expensive. The prices were very reasonable for being in downtown. I would definitely recommend.

The fresh donuts were tasty, the store was fine but nothing interesting. Not super clean, not dirty.

So after hearing so much about Federal Donuts I decided to try it for the very first time at this location (I'm sure I'm the only person in the planet who hasn't had this before, I understand it's pretty popular). Anyways, I ordered ahead online to not be late for work, when I get there however, there are two people in line ahead of me, no problem. I wait for my turn to retrieve my order, I will add that the two customers ahead of me were white I'm obviously black, you'll understand later. Anyways, ther

The chicken sandwich is elite! You would never know that based on the name of course. The blueberry lemon donuts was great too. Lavender lemonade was great too. Nice outdoor and indoor dining too.

Wildly overrated. I was told I must try their donuts when I moved here. My partner and I bought an assorted dozen to share and threw all but one away. We were so shocked by the disconnect between the way everyone raves about this place and how mediocre it is. Are there no good cake donuts in this city?

The fried wings here are a must. Although I much preferred ( my favorite choice) the Chili Garlic sauce when it was prepared on the wings as opposed to being a dipping sauce. Anyway, the lunched was topped off with an absolutely scrumptious strawberry glazed donut.

Tried Vietnamese iced coffee and a donut. The coffee was super strong but I enjoyed it. The donuts are so soft and airy that you wouldn?t even notice munching down a dozen ??so be careful

Key Lime donut was tasty

The hours on the door state they open at 7:00 am. However, they were not open at 7:10. The staff member in the store refused to open the door to speak w me and just kept motioning to me- really unhelpful. I made this stop despite the weather. I like federal, but unlikely to visit any time soon bc they are clearly not open during my commuting hours. You can't positively review a shop when you can't eat what you can't buy during normal posted business hours.

I finally made it here! I ended up getting six donuts (Strawberry Lavender, Cookies and Cream, and Cinnamon), as well as a fried chicken sammich, a maple cardamom donut, and a caramel pecan bun donut. None of it disappointed me or my friends at all. We'll all be down there again this week for more!

I'm usually not a fan of donuts but, the warm honey donut here.......babyyyyyyyy it is so good! I also love the chicken sandwich and the buttermilk ranch fried chicken. You won't be disappointed.

This location closes at 6 pm and they were already out of wings at 2:45 pm. I was extremely disappointed especially because of the fact that I was in the mood for wings. I was hungry after arriving into Philly via Amtrak and didn't feel like venturing elsewhere for food so I opted for their chicken sandwich, $8 ($9.50 with tax). I opened the wrapper and the sandwich was so small, the bun was cold as if they just pulled it out of the fridge and the American cheese wasn't even melted. Seriously a waste of alm

Excellent place, one of the best hot chicken sandwiches I?ve ever had. The key lime donut was excellent too

coffee was way too sweet, donuts tasted stale. much better places around the area

1st time there, Had the wings with teriyaki sauce, very good. Also had a few of the plain donuts, fresh and tasty. Customer service was excellent. I'll definitely be back.

A Must Have!! Melt in your mouth, freshly made to order, not overly sweet, true to its flavor donuts. I'm definitely visiting every time I'm in Philly.

Literally the best doughnuts of our lives. Between the 2 of us, we have eaten 8 doughnuts in the last 24 hours.

Great service, cool staff and space, and fantastic donuts (and iced coffee) Highly recommended

They have amazing lavender lemonade!

Love the friend chicken sandwich and the hot and ready cinnamon doughnuts. Staff is always warm and welcoming. This is my favorite fast food place in Philly/ever

OMG, I couldn't make up my mind on a donut or a chicken sandwich? It was 11am so I did the reasonable thing. Yup, I brought both. Lol. The cranberry donut was not from this world delicious! And the chicken sandwich with the sauce and pickle should've come out before Popeyes bcuz they would have crushed Popeyes! This was a great first time experience.

Food was cold and coffee is subpar. ?Twice fried chicken? is soggy consistently. Would go elsewhere

On 2 different occasions I purchased a chicken sandwich, fries, and a donut. Each of those 2 orders, I paid for a donut but never received a donut. Not cool at all.

I go there every Mondays. I love their donuts but for the past 2 months I?ve had to wait for at least 20mn for the donuts to show up. Might want to change your opening hours.

Love the different and unusual flavors of the donuts. I haven't tried the food yet, however my daughter says it's good.

Incredible - had the donut latte and cookies and cream donut - insane. The guy behind the counter was extremely helpful with suggestions and friendly. Interpol playing on the stereo overhead - was a good start to my day.
