Best donuts in Philly and in my top 3 overall- my usual go-to is the hot cinnamon brown sugar donut, it?s amazing and a must try. They have revolving ?fancy? flavors, this time I had tres leches which tasted so yum. We also had the fried chicken sandwich, it?s definitely crispy. It had a unique flavor similar to an onion ring which was interesting- however, it was a bit too salty and needed more sauce. The fries were good, nothing special although they were not the zatar fries. The interior is nice & modern
Stopped by here before the Super Bowl parade for some donuts and coffee. Everything was tasty. Service was good.
I walked by this place and thought that I definitely had to try it. They seem to be supportive of Pride too which is great. They do classic cake donuts, which usually aren?t my favorites, but these were so good. I had the cherry one, and that was top notch. Their latte is also very good.
Donuts were awesome! Freshly cooked and delicious! We ordered classic sugar cinnamon and strawberry lavender donuts. The sugar cinnamon donut is pretty delicious. But, strawberry lavender donut was so so.. I couldn?t taste the lavender at all. I am not big cake base donut. The staffs were super friendly and nice. The service was pretty fast and the place is pretty clean.
Had one of the worst chicken sandwiches I?ve ever had here. It was like half-cooked. I?ve been to this location many times over the years, and the chicken sandwiches have honestly been that outstanding, but this one was particularly gross. I guess Federal has always served these cuts that are really tough and hard to chew, but it does seem like quality has gone down in recent years. I know they have scaled up their business a lot. I certainly wouldn?t recommend this to anyone visiting Philly anymore.
Went on a Sunday morning around 11am and the line was long but it moved quickly. The donuts were very creative flavors and the strawberry lavender flavor was delicious freshly made and the chicken sandwich was also good. I was also surprised at the reasonable prices in the city. The coffee, however, was terrible - so bad that it spoiled an otherwise 5-star experience.
Best cake donuts I've had. The chocolate glazed is very chocolatey but not too sweet. Cherry cheesecake has a nice moist tangy yet fruity taste. Highly recommend these domuts
I stopped by Federal Donuts as part of my first timer experience in Philly. The donuts were very good but what stood out to me was the customer service and friendliness provided by the staff. I wish I would have asked for the cashier name but she was so friendly and guided me on the recommendations on which donuts to get. Left feeling really good afterwards highly recommend this spot for anyone looking for great food and better customer service. Next time I?m in Philly I?ll be stopping by again??
Never ate there. The Federal Donuts used Doordash which has the worst delivery and reviews. I gave specific instructions to hand deliver. I?m at my place of business sitting behind my desk on the phone. It happened to be a co-worker who saw my Federal Donuts place on the visitors table. The delivery person Hassan never came to my desk to hand deliver my bag. I don?t know how long it was sitting there. One of my donuts was half out of the small paper bag was wet with it raining. Poor packaging. It?s a shame
Ngl probably the BEST traditional donut I have had in a very long time! The frosting and flavor is AMAZING for every donut. The staff was so kind with reccomendations and telling us they do hot chocolate with syrup instead of powder! Would stop by again for sure
I had caught wind of this place before visiting Philadelphia, and going out of my way to make a stop was well worth it. I was there too early for fried chicken (will definitely try next time though), so I got two donuts. The first was the Cinnamon Oatmeal donut. It was sweet but hearty, while retaining its soft and gentle texture. It was great to have with my coffee. The other one I tried was the Blueberry Pancake one and it was amazing. It was sweeter than the other but still not overdone, making for a don
The blueberry cake donut was great. Moist, good flavor. I did not love the hot fresh donut.
Very cozy and quaint with about 10-15 small chairs inside and few tables on the street. Came after lunch, so wasn't crowded. Was immediately greeted and the menu was straightforward. Several donuts were on display from the hot fresh to the fancy ones. Ordered a fried chicken sandwich and a cinnamon brown sugar donut. Donut came out hot and fresh while I was waiting for my chicken sandwich. Yes, ate my dessert before my dinner. Donut was extremely fresh and soft. Had perfect amount of brown sugar and ci
A great place to get fresh donuts while in Philly! The flavors are amazing! They also make donuts fresh to order so you get to eat them hot! The staff is terrific and the place is kind of hip too! A bonus is that they make incredible fried chicken! A must ry when in the area!
I love Korean fried anything. These donuts are so decadent. The tender texture stays fresher longer than any other donut I?ve bought either. Because yes I had to buy a half dozen and no I don?t have roommates. These puppies were soft and yummy for a good three days. Fun seasonal and standby flavors as well. Shop is open and flat. Space between tables and donuts are easily viewable.
It's a must stop for me when I'm in Philadelphia! The freshly made warm doughnuts are so fluffy and the sugar coating goes so well with them! I always order the cinnamon sugar and cookies and cream, but on this day the staff gave me an extra strawberry lavender! It has become my favorite!! Thank you so much, kind staff!
They make a decent chicken sandwich - not as good as chik fil a, but still good. I also like their donuts especially the salted chocolate. Their twice fried chicken may not be for everybody, but it is still worth a try. Seating is limited so this is a great takeout spot for lunch time.
The donuts were delicious, especially the hot and fresh donuts coated in sugary goodness (cinnamon sugar and cookies and cream)! The staff were amazing and super accommodating when they were out of something I'd ordered online and I'll definitely stop back in when in the area!
Their donuts were pretty good, but I expected them to better due to all the hype I had heard about this place. These seemed more like cake donuts than yeast risen donuts, which I personally don't prefer as much. The warm cookies and cream donut was good especially since it was fried right there, but I would have thought there would have also been some sort of cream filling or something to make it more like cookies and cream. Not bad though... Just not as amazing as I would have expected.
Simply delicious. Donuts, fried chicken, drinks. When we went they had 3 flavors of donuts. We tried strawberry lavender and cookies n cream. The donuts are made fresh to order; you watch them drop into the oil right in front of your face. Melt in your mouth. Heavenly.
There was a big hype about eating here but I was a little bummed. The chicken was waaay to salty and some of it didn?t look appealing. As for the doughnut that?s a different story but of course it is a doughnut place. It lived up to its reputation. The doughnuts were fluffy, nice and airy. Definitely will return for doughnuts not so much for chicken.
Without a doubt the crispiest, tastiest fried chicken I?ve ever bitten in to. The crunch was like in 3D surround sound! Inventive flavors and seasonings too. Couldn?t go past some doughnuts too, real fresh, real hot. I don?t mind saying that all that fried food gave me some wicked heartburn after, but it was totally worth it!
I LOVE their donuts. It's definitely worth the hype. They have really good flavors. Do not miss strawberry lavender donut(it's fresh and hot) and Mississippi mud(this one - OH MY GOD!!). It's so soft, it is like it's going to fall apart but doesn't. It's my favorite donut place till date. There's not lot of seating here, so plan accordingly.
Getting Fed Donuts whenever I visit Philly is something that I love to do. The donuts are always delicious and I enjoy trying different types of donuts. It?s so fulfilling and eating a single donut can have me stuffed for a while. The coffee at this spot too is worth trying. The coffee isn?t the reason I?d go back here, the donuts would be why I keep coming, but the coffee is definitely a good side-kick to the donut. If you haven?t been to a Fed Donuts before, it?s a must try!
Over the counter fried chicken and donuts. I didn?t even want a donut and then I tasted the cinnamon brown sugar donut and it was delicious, light fluffy freshness. Chx sand was recommended and was a really good lunch. Hip vibe good music vibrant atmosphere.
Friendly staff. Delicious warm donuts. Off street metered parking available in the surroundings but not in front of the restaurant. Cash and cards are acceptable as forms of payment. If you're in the Philly area, you must try it. Bon app?tit!!!
Went early in the morning to get donuts and their chicken sandwich. Ordered the porter?s peep donut. The flavor and taste of it was out of this world! The chicken sandwich was fine.
These doughnuts are among the best I ever had. I went for the vanilla potato chip and the classic chocolate cake and it was all about as good as it gets.
Good fresh donuts. My forever favorites are the lavender & hot pink sugar! This location does have the good to go app, cheaper priced donuts at the end of the night, help eliminate food waste! Half dozen on the app for $4.99 but paying full price is worth it also.
Best donut place in America! First, the employees are super friendly. Second the food is just amazing. The donuts are freshly made and melt in your mouth. I also ordered the chicken sandwich and it was really tasty. Not greasy at all. I wish I could eat here every day.
My husband and I are not in agreement about the goodness of this place. He likes a lighter donut, while I think a proper donut is better ?cakey,? and with standout flavors. If you?re like me, you will love this place; if not, you?ll be less enthusiastic about it! The coffee was good, too- drank it black, so there was no hiding a bad roast. Pictured is the lemon pistachio.. my favorite! (Not pictured- the three others we ate together. Ha.)
~Preface~ Narrator: On the 16th of June, Joe (protagonist) embarked on a journey to Federal Donuts after reading novels of reviews that conveyed how "amazing" this establishment was.. little did he know what was In store for him... Chapter 1- Don't Judge a Book By its Cover Narrator: Joe arrived at his destination approximately at 11:30, he peered up at the charming red, white,& blue storefront, & said to himself, "I hope this isn't another industrial rustic d?cor." Upon entrance, Joe immediately noticed
managers here are so sweet, staff is great, food is consistently good BUT they changed the ranch!!!! federal ranch was my favorite in the city, consistent at all the locations until recently!!! it used to be obviously house made and delicious. it is obviously some kind of wholesale condiment now!!!! not nearly as good and kills the whole experience as a ranch connoisseur. PLEASE SWITCH THE RANCH BACK!! love this chain but need the old dressing!!!
Donut was delicious and the store was next to my hotel. Plenty of seating inside. I will be back.
Federal donuts is on my short ?must stop? list when I visit Philly. The hot donuts are amazing (try the strawberry) but my favorite item ? by far ? is the breaded chicken sandwich. It?s amazing and puts Chick-Fil-A to shame. Mmm... ????
Forget about the donuts when you come here and get their crispy chicken sandwich combo with zataar fries. This is also the best location i tried in philly for dining in. Seats are plenty and comfortable. It closes earlier than some of their other locations though so keep that in mind before making plans.
What donuts dream of becoming. Haven't tried all their chicken flavors, but they were all great! Spent the whole summer of 2014 binging for myself and the office. Keep it up guys! Update: I personally prefer the fresh doughnuts, but they taste better when they are still warm which sucks because when I get home they are a bit cold. Still a B+ doughnut even then. Chicken is pretty solid on taste and freshness. Definitely binge worthy all around. ??
Twist on the classic chicken and waffles BUT with a side of delicious donut pairing. Since the chicken and most donuts are Made to order, the fried chicken depending on the dry or wet rub/flavoring ya decided to get, can be a hit or a miss. So choose wisely.
The banana- something donut was soooo good - also baklava?? . Super polite workers and u can sit inside its pretty cool. Price is totaly normal for the quality - and their lemonade is the best :)
Our fig donut was unique, but I wouldn't purchase again. The coconut cake donut was pretty dry and unremarkable.
This is the second time I have come here and I wish I could stay longer and see the ambience. It's a small place and gets crowded but as a mom of three young girls we made it happen today. I had a stroller which did not much get in the way. The girls chose their donuts and I got waters but there really was no space to sit so we went to the Shops at Liberty Place to sit. Their donuts are great and fancy. I decided to order half a dozen of their fanciest donuts because I would save 0.50 for each. They were fr
The pralines and cream donut was ok. The donut was very sweet. The restaurant was very nice. I would recommend this place to friends and family.
I came here today to try some donuts after hearing all the hype. This establishment has a wide variety of flavors, which I really appreciate. The donuts themselves are a combination of yeast and cake donuts. I also tried a chicken sandwich and was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. Overall the food here was really good. I would definitely come back.
I had an amazing blue donuts 9 months ago. They no longer have that, so I chose 6 others that are only okay. They are expensive... It took about 25 minutes for them to box the 6 donuts. (?)
Flavors, crispness, quality, color, consistency. All reasons why a piece of chicken and a warm donut can make my day by visiting federal donuts. The chicken will literally burn your mouth if you try to eat it within the first minutes of it being placed in front of you. And that is something to delight in. The fried chicken has many flavors mixing various levels of sweet, spice, and tangy notes. Whichever you choose(if any) it will most likely be the best fried chicken you've had. It is fried to golden perfe
You have to try Federal Donuts if you?re dividing Philly, I take everyone of my friends here for their first stop. Best donuts of my life no contest. My favorite is the classic brown sugar. You can order delivery too (microwave for 10 seconds it?s better warm, you?re welcome)
Found this place on Google Maps, a few blocks from my hotel. Amazing donuts. Not the traditional flavors but definitely ones that are memorable! I like donuts that have cinnamon sugar and the granular textures. The cinnamon brown sugar was great and one of them more familiar tastes. I tried the strawberry lavender to get outside of my comfort zone and it was great. The blueberry pancake was my favorite. I was expecting the blueberry flavor to be in the donut but it was in the glaze. A very pungent and tart
Donuts, fried chicken, and coffee. What else is there to say? I will mention that if you're used to Dunkin or any of the other big brands with their large variety of flavors in large quantities this is not the place to expect the same. The special flavored donuts of the day sell out quick and then you're only left to choose from 3 flavors from their made to order section. Those are still good as well however you'll want to get there early to try at least one of the special flavors trust me. And a life tip,
Quick and easy place to go four amazing donuts, a chicken sandwich, or some fried chicken! They have their good old standby donuts with your delicious. But there are also many exciting specialty Donuts that change from time to time on the menu. There is always something amazing and delicious available at Federal Donuts!
I was in town and this place came recommended for a good quick breakfast. The donut was amazing! I got a coffee cake donut, it was warm, flavorful, and quite moist! Sadly, I dropped a star off because the coffee was horrible. It tasted like they burnt some coffee, then made another batch of coffee in the same pot without cleaning out the burnt coffee.
Listen?Everyone must order Buttermilk Ranch chicken.the chicken is extra tasty and made fresh,Their chicken sandwich is also incredibly yummy. I highly recommend eating here!
These were a bit of a let down. We tried their Cinnamon Sugar, Strawberry Lavender, and Cookies & Cream, all hot and fresh, but weren't wowed by any of them. Perhaps their pre-baked options would be a better choice, but I don't think we'll be going out of our way for these cake donuts again.
I finally tried this place! It was delicious!! I visited a newer location at the Whole foods Market near the Parkway. The chicken is as good as I hoped-crispy, flavorful and all together satisfying. Definitely recommend!
We we so excited to try this place from rave reviews about the chicken and donuts. Unfortunately maybe we just got unlucky with the chicken sandwich since it was a little overdone and only enough chicken to cover half of the bun :(. I can definitely see that this could be an amazing sandwich maybe on another try.. I will say, however, the donuts were AMAZING and the coffee was great too! Still worth the trip!
Get the donuts, this business should stay away from poultry. I don't know why people spoke positively of it in other reviews - absolutely vile chicken sandwich. Reheated, flat, unevenly cooked. Unmelted American cheese with a spray of some liquid that's supposed to be sauce and sweet dill pickles. Go to Popeyes and spend less money for better food.
Amazing. Best fried chicken ever! It comes out hot and fresh. Their donuts are pretty amazing too and they also come out fresh every time.
Came here because I heard they had some good fresh and hot cake donuts. I wasn?t disappointed. This seemed to be a stop for several locals and there wasn?t a ton of space to sit inside, but the fresh donuts were delicious. The service was very friendly and they were patient while we ordered. Thank you, look forward to return visits!
Every donut here is delicious, absolutely worth the stop if you're in Philly. Seating in this small space was fun, luckily we came on an early Saturday morning so it wasn't too crowded. My friend had a savory sandwich from them and said she enjoyed it a lot.
We went in the evening and ordered hot fresh donuts. They were prepared on the spot. We tried all three flavors. Although they were made fresh there was a bit of a taste that seemed stale. Perhaps it was due to the oil. Also: the different flavors come from sprinkled sugar. No frosting. Altogether the donuts were just okay.
I had to see if the fried chicken sandwich lived up to the hype. The potato bun was a nice touch but the chicken was on the dry and tough side, despite the attempts to soften it with pickles and the house sauce.
My husband brought home donuts from FD and it was delicious. Then he told me if I had eaten it from the shop while it was hot and freshly made....my mind would be blown. The next chance we were able to go into Philly, we went. I kid you not, the donuts are delicious! We had cookies and cream, strawberry cheesecake, yum. Also, surprise, they also have fried chicken. Strange? I know! But totally do it. They have different glazes that my goal now is to try each once in every visit.
Great doughnuts and breakfast sandwiches. Friendly staff. A perfect start to our second day in Philly.
I always eat from here as it is really convenient from my job in Rittenhouse. The customer service is amazing shout out to Zach, Lexy, Jeremy and the other ladies whose names I can't remember lol. I love their chicken tenders and seasoned fries. Also their chicken sandwich is one of my favorites and the donuts are bomb ?? ??. I highly recommend you visit Federal Donuts at any location. Thanks guys!!!!!!!!!!
Some say NY donuts are the best, but after the disappearance of Underwest donuts in NY, there has been no cake donut to replace it. Federal Donuts can easily fill that space, if only they?d move to NY.. one can be dream.
I'm not a big donut fan, but this friendly stop on our walk around Philli was perfect. The warm donuts and tea were just the thing. They have limited seating, but you are not coming here to camp, you are coming for a quick snack and moving on.
SLAMMIN' #donut spot. Well-curated selection of fresh donuts. Delicious coffee; the best I had in Philly. A cheery, helpful and efficient staff! Do not miss this spot! ??????
Awesome donuts! We got a half-dozen of the fancy ones, one of each kind they had, and they were amazing! The donuts themselves are soft and cakey, and the frostings were great. Fun toppings and flavors!
Baby Jesus himself must have created this flavorful menu. The chicken sandwich is simply heavenly and the strawberry lavender donut should be considered a threat to national security.
Fresh and warm donuts, friendly people, and fast service. They don't start serving fried chicken until 11, so we sadly missed that. The donuts alone are worth the visit though.
Special flavors, not too big. Good balance of sweet and sour flavors
always a must when in Philly! never had the chicken but the donuts are to die for. Strawberry lavender is a favorite but you can?t go wrong with any of the made to order!
Nice place, but only 6 different types of icing for donuts. Donuts with blueberries frosting were extraordinary.
Great cake donuts. ?? ?? ?? . Recommend the blackberry crumble and the old fashioned.
The donuts were hot and freshly made. They were so good. Nice and soft just the right amount of sweet.
Friendly staff. She recommended a breakfast sandwich that wasn?t on the menu but was KILLER. The eggs were pillowy and the bacon was *crispy*. If you?re not feeling like having amazing donuts then this is a great alternative!
Don't stop at the donuts! Even though they are deliciously amazing, persist and also order the fried chicken! It is all good. No regrets.
Great donuts, variety of flavors. I had lemon bar and fig and they were soo good.
Best donuts, you must try the key lime and the strawberry-lavender and they have done a good job with their pumpkin donuts.
Tried the fried chicken wings, pomegranate tahini doughnut, sweet potato pie doughnut, and fresh made plain doughnut. This place is worth the hype. Wings were massive and came with a chili garlic glaze. While the fried chicken is good, the doughnuts were especially memorable. Unique flavor combinations at very reasonable prices. Definitely check it out if you're craving something more than your run of the mill Dunkin doughnut. Only docking a star because I think it is overpriced.
In my opinion a doughnut should be eaten fresh out of the fryer and piping hot. This is what you?ll get at federal donuts. Dunkin doesn?t even come close. If you?re in philly and you pass this place on a brisk morning, be sure to grab a cup of coffee and a hot donut!
Great first experience! Both the chicken and donuts were amazing, but will probably edit my order next time!
I got their London Fog donut, and it was AMAZING. Highly recommend for the donuts, the rest of the food is aggressively mid, in my opinion. The staff was absolutely delightful.
Great donuts. Delicious just enough sweetness and fresh warm love. Friendly staff and reasonable prices.
Great donuts, great chicken (especially the ginger soy), great customer service
I was in Philly for just a few hours today and went to Federal Donuts, which had been recommended to me. I had a chicken sandwich, coffee, and a donut, all of which were great. I wish they'd come to New York! I highly recommend Federal Donuts!!! ??
This is an amazing place to get donuts, hang out, and make great memories!! The za?atar fries here are amazing as well.
Donuts were warm and very fresh. Was my first time but definitely not my last
I would call this a donut joint. Small place with made to order donuts and fried chicken. Donuts were soft, warm and sugary good. I didn't get to try the chicken, so I need to go back.
