Dutch Door Donuts

We were in Carmel for the weekend, and my daughter had been begging for donuts so we decided to stop by Dutch Door Donuts. It was a great little find! They offer just a handful of flavors, all made fresh to order. We tried the Salted Brown Butter and two seasonal options: Cheesecake and Strawberry Basil. Each donut had a soft texture, and while the glaze didn?t quite stick (we ended up using a fork!), the flavors made it totally worth it. Very fresh donuts and beignets. They fry them to order and you can watch them. They tasted pretty good and nice and soft. I tasted the pineapple coconut donut, which tasted good. The service was okay. They definitely seemed like they didn?t want to work there. But i mean, who really does want to work? But yeah, pretty nice place with nice donuts.

Came here after a friend recommended it. Their donuts are amazing! They fry their donuts fresh to order, and like another review mentioned, the glaze doesnt quite stick to the donut since they?re so hot. It seems they rotate their flavors frequently. I got the black sesame which was delicious, nutty, crispy on the outside with a fluffy center.

Visited Carmel and this donut shop in July 2023. This is a donut shop, but the way they do it is interestingly amazing. The delicacies are made there, glazed there and made right in front of you for you. It can take some time, the lines can be long, but it is worth the eating. Unique combos, glazes and each amazing on it's own might. Definitely recommend this if you are in the area. You won't regret it. As far as specialty donuts go, this is one of my top places.

All donuts are made fresh to order. There are staple flavors like chocolate and glazed and then seasonal flavors. I had the blueberry Meyer lemon and the brown butter. Holy cow the brown butter was amazing and just melted in your mouth. The blueberry was alright. These definitely tasted better fresh when they?re messy and sticky than later in the day when the glaze hardens.

These donuts are so delicious. They are fluffy and warm when they come out. The miso caramel glaze is unreal. The star of the show, the sesame almond cinnamon donut was just delicious, crispy, and mouth watering. Only thing about it is the poor atmosphere. Very stale and uninviting.

What a great idea. Only a few flavors to choose from, but they are fresh cooked on order. Had the beignets, they were super hot with powdered sugar, very tasty. My first beignets, only thing is I wish there was a dipping sauce or jam or something add a little pop of flavor.

advertises fresh donuts which they definitely are, but it has the fry aroma of a carnival, at the black sesame and meyer the blueberry lemon, and they tastes like what you would think but the black sesame is better

Great made to order donuts. The display donuts are a little misleading as they have a much thicker glaze. The donuts you get are hot so the glaze doesn't stick to them all that well so it isn't nearly as thick as depicted. The chocolate glaze is good. The miso caramel is really delicious and what I would get again. Salty and savory but still balances to sweet. We would happily return.

Got the Cara cara & Kumquat donuts + a beignet. They were FANTASTIC!!! Their donuts are like a cross between a mochi & yeast donut drizzled with fun bright juicy flavors. The mouthfeel is just lovely + a rather refreshing flavor profile. The beignet was pretty darn good too. Actually the best I?ve ever had. In fact, I prefer Dutch Door?s beignet over Cafe Du Monde?s beignet in New Orleans since its dough is fluffier and it still tastes good when cold. Tell me it isn't so DDD! I had, what may have been, literally, THE BEST APPLE FRITTER EVER MADE last week. It was paradigm shifting. Perfection in fried dough. I instantly book marked your shop. Great donuts! Different from donuts in most of the shops in the US. Crispy outside and special flavors. Tried the glazed one and mocha-red bead one. They were all great. Fresh made donuts were good and not too sweet but the consistency leaves a lot to be desired. The unique flavors and specials were enjoyable. And the service personal were very nice, friendly and pleasant!

The nonchalant employees made the place not as good as it could have been. They were busy conversing with each other so much that they forgot part of our order. They do not take cash as well. The food was good and worth the wait. It?s a bit pricey but? each to their own.

One of the best doughnuts I've ever had. Got a couple of flavors, and everything was delicious! One that struck me was the strawberry flavor, it has that fresh strawberry taste to it and i really loved it. Got also an americano- good coffee! Chai-latte with a shot of espresso-- that was the worst! I couldn't drink the whole cup. This was the best donut place ever, next to Stan's Donuts in the South Bay. But these donuts were fresh and made to order. The crumb of the donut was light and not doughy. They had the perfect amount of glaze and it wasn't too sweet. Line was long though, and the available table we had wasn't clean, but it was the weekend and that's understandable. At least at this place, we were treated with respect, unlike other restaurants in Carmel.

This is a cute little Donut shop with donuts made fresh to order! The Beignets are were light and airy. Soooo good. I also had a latte but unfortunately it wasn't too good. Service is hit or miss. It always seems like there?s new people there who aren?t completely trained. Donuts are fresh, and a bit op, their coffee selection although appealing online is limited in store. I order pick up, which is never on time, usually it?s not ready on time and the drink selections aren?t available so I get a refund. We try donuts everywhere we travel and were super excited about this place. They did not disappoint! I didn't realize they make donuts fresh and to-order. So even if you go there later in the day, you don't get the dried out donuts in the case, and you have the same selection all day long. Beignets were great as well! Delicious! I?ve been to Carmel a few times and this was my first time stopping by Dutch Door Donuts. There were a couple donuts up front so you could see what they look like, but the donuts are made for you when you order! I got a nitro brew, two donuts, and picked up some treats for my dog. The donuts were fresh (obviously) and very tasty, especially the chocolate donut. My dog also loved the treat!

Here on Black Friday and impressed by the speed of a huge line. While we loved the made to order, fresh, warm donuts, they were a little sweet. Recommend a hot coffee, tea or water to go with it.

Stumbled upon this unassuming donut shop while going for my early morning walk. And let me tell you I'm glad I did. I had the mango donut and it was yummy! The donut is fried when you order and glazed afterwards, resulting in burn your lips goodness which was crunchy on the outside and soft inside. The mango glaze with coconut sprinkles was not cloyingly sweet. This and a shot of espresso was worth waking up early.

Food is in ranked as I?m writing the review immediately after ordering. Was approached very friendly when we walked in, asked if we were ready and replied not quite. Young lady disappeared in the back for about 3 minutes to take a call on her cell. Came out, and wasn?t very friendly or helpful with feedback. Was on her phone most of the interaction, which isn?t long when you?re ordering 3 donuts and a tea. They had no receipt paper, offered no other solution for getting a copy. I hope the donuts are good.

Insanely good donuts! I didn't even realize donuts like this existed in California. They're made-to-order, and the flavors are insanely good. We got two donuts, an amazing a miso caramel donut, but the best was definitely the tangerine-cardamom. There for some reason wasn't a big line, but my partner and I were sincerely blown away by the quality here. Will for sure be back!

Worth a detour: nothing like other donuts. The donuts are made to order and it makes the difference as they are truly crispy on the outside, soft in the inside. Toppings are original and savory recipes, still melted and much more flavory when donut has just been cooked.

Man oh man! Went here on a whim! My brother and I were blown away! The freshly made donuts were out of this world! Crispy, hot and their glazes are fantastic! Personally the almond horchata was my favorite! But that raspberry lemon one was a close second! Their coffee was good as well! Definitely coming back here if I ever come back to California! Also the staff were super courteous!

Order anything, be happy. Seriously, you can?t go wrong here. All donuts are made fresh and hot to order. They usually have a few staples and then a few specials each day. Be adventurous and try multiple. Their drinks are also solid. Nice indoor seating and decent outdoor communal seating. Grab your order and go sit downstairs in the comfy couches near the fire pits! Oh and don?t forget they also sell dog treats!

A donut shop very different from any other I've been too. Donuts made to order. Yes, donuts made to order. Not a wide variety but still ... donuts made to order! So fun to watch. Oh .. and they are delicious. You'll order one eat it, then come back for another - at least we did! Oh, and they have 'donuts' for your dog. Plenty of comfortable places to sit - either safely spaced indoors or outside the shop. When in Carmel this is a must stop.

When visiting Carmel again, I?ll go back! The donuts are really unique and the service is incredible. Stepped in a few minutes before they closed and Liz added on an extra doughnut because she overheard me saying I wanted to try it. Absolutely wonderful.

This is a cute little donut shop. They have 5 or 6 options you can choose from. We tried the Raspberry and the Maple Bacon donuts. We give it an average score. The donuts weren't bad, but they didn't stand out compared to other donut places/cafes we have visited.

The lady wanted to come so we made the trip. All the donuts are MADE TO ORDER and are deliciously fluffy, fried, perfectly sweet but not too much so. For a beignets, a vanilla bean glaze donut, and a 16 oz coffee it was $15.50. Will absolutely come here again!

Online says they open at 7:30 didn't open the doors until 7:35. Terrible customer service, super rude. Donuts are okay the bacon taste like it came from the dried bacon bits from Walmart and is incredibly hard. Everything is overpriced would not go here again or suggest it.

Thought a fresh warm donut would be a dream come true. Chocolate donut texture was just strange to me, and the Hershey?s syrup on top just soaked into the donut. The glaze was slightly better. However, their beignets were up there with Disneyland - 10/10 on those.

This was a fun find we stumbled upon. The donuts were super tasty and made to order. We had a blood orange, tangerine cardamom, and vanilla bean. They were all delicious, but blood orange was the best. Most fun though was watching them make our donuts and more at the window. Great fun for kids.

I ate a warm donut at the shop and one in the car on the way home and one at home, and they were still very delicious. I do like the cold donut. It is very yeasty and almost like a combo yeast and mochi texture combined. I should have bought a dozen.

Dutch door Donuts have such amazing tasting donuts. My mom and I had the Maple Bacon Pimenton and it was so delicious! We expected it to be super sugary but it was the right amount of sweet and savory flavors in one crunchy, yet doughy, donut.

The beignets here are one of the best things I've eaten in years. Eat them right away when they are hot, don't close the box or they will not be as good as the texture changes from the humidity in the box.

Went first thing to grab some of these reputedly great donuts. 8am rolls around, not open. Door was open, my husband pops his head in and asks if they're open. Girl says 5 min. 10 after 8 and husband asks again. "Couple more minutes " They were having a good Ole time but not concerned with customers. We left. Work on your customer service people. We had our first donut at cars and donuts at the PB Car Club at the beach. So good we came to their store in Carmel. Very good! Fresh and hot.

Really yummy freshly hot donuts. Not super sweet. Hopefully even less sweet. They are seriously about their Espresso coffee too. Not too much seatings. Be careful, the table can have left sugar powder. Be sure to wipe them. Last but not least, one waitress was really pretty and had nice classy clothes and hairdo.
