Dunlap's Donuts

As donuts go, this is the place to go Capitol/Santa Cruz. Tasty fresh donuts everywhere. Classic shop layout. Nice service and expect a bit of a wait (10 people in line behind me). A nice surprise is their decadent ham and cheese croissants with jalape?os. One of the best I?ve had and that says a lot coming from a guy that grew up on a south boarder town. Highly recommended.

Apple fritter- Very average fritter. Nothing at all wrong with it besides just not being as good as others. It has the right amount of crisp edge and soft center. The glaze is good. There is a good amount of apple filling but it doesn't really carry much flavor. The fritter itself could use more cinnamon. For most people they would probably say this is a really good fritter. Strawberry mochi- Wow! Absolute standout from everything we got. The donut itself is so soft and fluffy and has an amazing mochi chew.

After all a donut shop, it's ambience is large spacious and very donut shop. But this one is different, It is a VERY good one. The owner treats everyone like a VIP. So much cool unexplored deliciousness. And after all is said and done even the plane old maple ones seem extra good and delicious.

It's been awhile since I've been back there and this morning I was lucky enough to be driving by and decided to go on in and get a delicious cinnamon roll and glazed cronut. Very very nice people there as well. Very friendly. They say hi to all the customers they know by name!!

I?ve been wanting to go this shop since when I saw their mochi donuts ad in Good times. The dough of their mochi donuts is denser and thicker than ?Pon de ring?, the original mochi donuts served by Mr. Donuts in Japan. This is another level such as edible squish-mallows?? I love it!!! (By the way, I love Japanese light mochi donuts too??? The owner is very kind of her letting my daughter play the claw machine. Other staff (or was he even a customer?) was also helpful. Very nice atmosphere.

Dig the fresh Donuts at Dunlap! The best in Santa Cruz, huge maple bars dripping with icing, fresh puffed glazed, big enough for that burger cheese and bacon, decadent cake donuts with sprinkles nuts and sweet icing, excellent buttermilk and ole fashion with thick glaze and crispy edges. You may have to wait in a short line. Coffee is to die from Santa Cruz Roasting. Right on the corner of Portola and 38th Avenue.

One of the few decent doughnut shops in SC. They have the usual assortment with a sampling of oversized or novelty doughnuts (frosted with various breakfast cereals sprinkled on top) on the weekends. The store interior continues the tradition of the previous owners' of neglecting the interior of the store completely. My friends said that the donuts are too sweet. They liked the plain blueberry ones without the glaze. The coffee was okay, and so was the hot chocolate. The employees were very friendly and empathetic. That's why they get 5 stars. The ambiance is cute with some claw machines in the back of the shop. The owner was really sweet. This place is amazing! The donuts remind me of my beloved neighborhood donut shop back home. There is so much variety and mochi Donuts and simple Breakfast Bagels. There are gott'cha machines to entertain you while you wait. Staff is always super friendly and courteous. If you want to start your day off right head here for breakfast!

We accidentally left one of our donuts at the counter and went into a different business in the shopping center. One of the employees found me and brought my maple cronut. Delicious array of sandwiches and doughnuts. And the service is phenomenal! We called in a large order of (15) sandwiches, as well as doughnuts and coffee for an event we were hosting. We gave them a few days notice and asked to pick up the order at 6:45 AM. (Note that it is very difficult to get breakfast for a group that early in Santa Cruz county). The cronuts were divine?I tried the maple, glazed, and cinnamon sugar cronut. All amazing. As far as regular donuts go, I got a maple bar and was super excited because it was ENORMOUS! However, it was sadly not great. It tasted like a loaf of bread either maple frosting. The texture and density was all wrong. Usually maple bars are soft and fluffy and that was what I expected and hoped it would be. I will still go back to this cute little place, but most likely will stick to the cronuts.

A great place for donuts! This is a must-have any time I head to Santa Cruz. Just a classic no-frills donut. The new mochi donuts are also sneaky good. Get here early, because they will sell out. Not the fastest service but quality is spot-on

10/10 for injenuity, (mochi & ube specialty donuts) fair pricing, friendly customer service (samples & donut holds) and an excellent maple cronut (make sure to get it heated for proper texture and a much better experience)! Minus 1 star because instead of using buttermilk in your old fashioned donuts you are taking a shortcut with milk and lemon juice which imparts a clearly different taste that is not desirable. Don't sell yourself short when you have so much going for you. Do it the right way.

Love this place. All the donuts are incredible! Recently they started doing Mochi donuts, I believe Mon-Fri. They are so freaking GOOD. Everyone that works there is incredibly friendly and no matter how busy they are, they don't make you feel pressured to pick ASAP. Best. Prices. Ever. Great donuts. I looked at reviews and pictures ahead of time. Went in trying to limit myself to a dozen, but knowing I would fail. The worst donuts I've ever had, I have no idea why these are so popular. They are super bland, the old fashioned tasted like old oil and the pig in a blanket uses cheap American cheese (the plastic rubbery stuff). The donut holes weren't even good. This is probably the best donut shop I have ever been to. I picked out way more donuts than I needed, but then I saw that they had cronuts. I thought, ?Oh no, what do I do? Been driving by this place for years and never stopped. Finally decided to buy some treats for the guys at work, great donuts and excellent coffee for taking on the road. Clean place, lots of parking and the staff are very friendly people. I'm gonna be a regular at this place.

The best donuts. I'm picky. If I'm going to eat a donut it better be bomb. They make their donuts fresh and crispy. I made the mistake one morning of trying out farewells. I ended up back at Dunlap's with a bag of two soggy farewells donuts. I marched to the trash and threw them away. I said I was sorry for thinking all donut stores were alike. Now I don't waste time I go straight to Dunlap's the first time. The best.

These are the biggest donuts Weve ever eaten! Maple bars are huge and delish. Very happy with our dozen mixed. Custard donuts...huge and filled with yummy custard. Very good coffee too!

Amazing little donut shop. The ice cream sandwiches were incredible and if I could is eat themfor the rest of my life, sadly didn't make it there till a little before closing but everything still wad so fresh. Fact: they sell out by noon. Not just once in awhile. But every. Frkn. Day. Enough said? I went to get an apple fritter at 830am on a Saturday and they had already sold out. That's not what theyre even famous for, the croughnuts are. It's a must try. Family owned -- go support them. ????

Dunlap's Donuts is awesome. Great apple fritters, creatively topped/frosted normal donuts, solid breakfast sandwiches, and a very friendly staff. It's also just up the street from Pleasure Point, so it's perfect for a pre- or post-surf donut.

Oh, how I love Dunlaps. I?m a former SC resident turned NYC resident but I chose to have my wedding in Capitola as it is awesome. We decided to have a dessert bar instead of a wedding cake so we spent days around Santa Cruz looking for the best cakes, cookies and DONUTS! These Donuts are a deal. Much cheaper than many other places around and they are tasty as well. They do run out so make sure you get in before 12pm.
