These are some amazing potato based donuts. There is a distinct textural difference from flour donuts. These are airy but has a slightly denser chew and crisper exterior. That crunch is fantastic!!! What i also like is that these unique flavor combinations are not super sweet and stays true to their namesake. Such as the viet coffee donut is coffee taste!! All these donuts were excellent!! Stopped in at downstate donuts with my two boys and they absolutely loved it. The donuts were massive so 2 donuts for one grown-up and two six-year-olds. Easy to sit inside and have a doughnut and a cup of coffee while they enjoy it. decent parking out on the street. Would definitely come back if I was in the neighborhood.

First ever potato donuts and they were amazing. These were the fluffiest and lightest donuts I?ve ever had. They also weren?t overly sweet which was nice. The vanilla sour cream was a regular potato base while the brown sugar waffle was a sweet potato base. The only downside was that the brown sugar wasn?t that noticeable. I can?t wait to try some of their other flavors especially anything chocolate, but at the end of the day you can?t really make donuts any better than these.

The goal of a review is to take a picture of the item before you eat...but THIS donut (Brown butter chai) was screaming my name! Oh it was so good! Way better than its commercial competitors! Downstate donuts came to my apartment building and I'm so glad they did! Most of us had never heard of them, but ALL of us was trying to see how can we purchase a dozen ?? immediately! Best donuts in Uptown! These are so light but crispy and chewy and sooo delicious, they are hard to describe. They aren't cheap, but so worth it. The miso honey and lemon ricotta are my current favorites, they aren't too sweet or overwhelming with their flavors and the texture is really 10/10. The coffee is also good and the service is always so welcoming and wonderful. Love this shop!

Downstate Donuts (#141) 1132 W Wilson Ave Another Uptown gem! Super fresh donuts made from potatoes. Who knew? Delicious! Heard they sellout every day so got here early and there were plenty. My Vietnamese coffee was brewed up just for me (?That?ll take ~5 minutes ? is that ok??) so it was also super fresh and bold. Painted white brick walls, slate floor, indie/pop music, patio style tables/chairs, and lots of plants enjoying the bright sunshine streaming through floor-to-ceiling street corner windows.

I love their donuts and I eat only the chocolate one. With the packaging problem I read from other people?s review, I would like to share my experience too, about the packaging. My case is the chocolate flavor I love was not well received by the packaging they have,which?s disappointing? With the sauce on top of the donuts, it?s the highlight of your unique flavor. Delicious donuts! I went with my boyfriend who has celiac disease (gluten free) and we had a great experience. There were only 2 gluten free flavors when we went (which was sad because more were listed on their website). I got a (non-GF) seasonal peanut butter chocolate donut which was a perfect balance of flavors - can't wait to go back and try more of their flavors!

Downstate Donuts is easily the best donut in Chicago. The flavors always taste amazing and they have very innovative ingredient combinations. The donuts are soft, airy, and have a light richness that's perfectly balanced. It's a superior recipe with premium ingredients; I'd never recommend another donut first. The service is always professional and personable, and the atmosphere is very pleasant, has nice interior with tons of window lighting - the French would come back for seconds.

By far the best donuts I?ve had! Got half a dozen to take and share with friends on the lake. The blueberry lemon is my fav but honestly, it?s hard to choose. Definitely recommend stopping in. I work just a few doors down from this amazing donut shop, but I hadn?t had the chance to try them until today. The donuts were absolutely delicious, and I ordered the Garden breakfast sandwich. It was a generous portion and reasonably priced. The coffee was brewed to perfection.

Maybe not the best donuts in the city, but one of the top options. Well above the Chicago chains Stan's or Do-Rite. Vietnamese coffee is made to order and very rich. The gluten free donuts are some of the best I have ever had and almost indistinguishable from the regular ones which is hard to pull off if you've ever had gluten free food before.

These are hands down the best donuts I?ve ever had! I didn?t even realize/taste they were made with potatoes until later. Both times I?ve gone, the donuts are fresh and slightly warm, so good. They are constantly changing their flavors so I?m looking forwarding to my next visit. They don?t have a bathroom which is kind of a bummer.

My first visit. I had the Chocolate Sea Salt doughnut. The texture was interesting, as potato-made doughnuts have a different chew than traditional yeast-raised. The glaze was pretty good and not cloyingly sweet, although I'm not really into the "salted" trend. I also bought an Apple Cider and Vanilla Sour Cream doughnut, but I'll eat them tomorrow. I am a community resource provider and part of my job is to go into a lot of businesses. Rarely do I meet individuals as friendly as at this establishment. I spoke with James who was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about the business and their products. After going in for work, I came back and got a doughnut which James recommended. These are by far the best donuts I?ve had in the city! The donuts are perfectly caked, fluffy, and sweet without overdoing it. I had the honey butter which was my favorite and the Japanese pancake which came with a tart berry jam topping. Definitely one of the amazing local treasures of Uptown. My boyfriend and I come here almost every weekend to enjoy the delicious rotating variety of donuts, as well as their recently added savory breakfast tamales, and always love what we get. Not a fan. We tried the lemon ricotta and the maple sweet potato. Both of them tasted like pure sugar. No citrus, ricotta or sweet potato detected at all, with just a hint of maple. In addition, they weren?t crispy which is my expectation when eating a good donut. I know it?s a popular spot but it?s not for me.

I have been a regular with this store and I have tried almost every flavor that they would release every week? and by far, they have never let me down. The donuts are just incredible! There was a donut stand in the lobby at the office building and I tried it. She only had pistachio and it was cake donut. I'm not a cake donut person, but WHOA!! This was delicious. My first ever time trying a donut made with potato! Owner took my order and was very kind and willing to answer my questions. I was only able to try the Miso Honey Butter doughnut, but it definitely made me a fan! The texture is reminiscent of mochi without gumminess. It has the puffy, airy, light feel of a yeast donut, but the bite and crumb texture of a cake donut. It was very incredibly soft, despite ordering it at almost 1pm. It was a bit too sweet for my taste, but that's nothing the accompaniment

I don't understand the hype. These are kind of bad donuts, I would rather eat Stan's or even Dunkn. They are dense and two of the three we had were improperly fried and drained so the bottom was soggy. The miso donut was Krispy Kreme levels of sweet with no hint of miso saltiness. The coffee donut was particularly claggy, though the icing was tasty. Lastly the new blueberry lemon had the best texture but not really hitting any but the faintest blueberry flavor. Get down to Beacon for way better donuts

I?ve been here twice and each time the service was really great. Both baristas were very friendly. The Vietnamese coffee is consistently great and the donut was amazing. So soft and delicious, it almost melted in your mouth.

I only had Cash on me and was told they could accept cash but they could make no change, which is illegal in the state of Illinois. Difficult to get to if you aren?t from the city itself and they are not very responsive to messages on social media or email. Their website also says gluten free donuts are returning the summer of 2023. I absolutely love the Miso butter donut! The donut was so soft and buttery to me that I would not have known that it was made from potatoes. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. The only thing that I didn't like was that they didn't have the Lemon mascarpone, blueberry lemon or banana nut caramel donuts that I so desperately wanted to try.

Flavors on website are not offered daily. So don?t get your hopes up until you arrive. The way they package the donuts sucks. They use little bags so the toppings stick to the bag. I found all four of my donut to be oily. Man working this morning could have used another cup of coffee. I won?t be going back.

The flavors were great, if not a bit monotonous (at least 4 varieties of chocolate that weren?t very different from each other). The big issue was grease. I hate to describe it this way, but a few of the donuts were almost juicy with oil. I?ll give it to them that I came in a few hours before close v. right after opening, but it was pretty gross.
