I hate to admit that I ran out of time to actually get a donut and I will probably burn in hell for it. But I did run upstairs to check out the view and snag some great pics of this sinfully adorable spot in Little Italy, San Diego. I found parking quickly but everyone else wanted satanic snacks at the same time as I did. Next time!! Thanks for existing anyways!! ???? No regrets, the view was stunning and I highly recommend grabbing some coffee and a donut and heading upstairs to enjoy it, not the other way
Devil?s Dozen is like dating someone with potential ? occasionally amazing, but just as often leaving you wondering where it all went wrong. Some donuts are pure magic, the kind you accidentally inhale before you even sit down. Others? Heavy, bready, and giving strong bread roll wearing a sugar hat energy. Service is friendly enough, think ?cool acquaintance at a party? rather than ?best friend hyping you up.? The location is clutch if you?re already lurking around the neighborhood, but this isn?t a plan y
I still like this place, but taste is less wow-ing than our last regular visit >3 yrs ago. Solid, yummy donuts with an awesome view from the rooftop terrace.
Found this place thanks to the Underground Donut Tour. It?s adorable and the upstairs is comfy and has a fantastic view. I love the thought that went into their website, their donuts are ?fresh as hell? and the hours are ?or until souled out?. I?m allergic to egg, so unfortunately I cannot personally speak to the flavor of their donuts. The other people on my donut tour absolutely LOVED theirs. They were so pretty. We had an opportunity to meet the owner, she was kind and we appreciated her taking time out
I had the cookies and cream donut which they have a strawberry glaze on and makes it taste far more refreshing than other cookies and cream donuts. My wife had the classic chocolate glaze and that tasted like Mexican chocolate on top! Highly recommend this place!
Love this donut shop downtown! The coffee is fantastic, and the donuts are always fresh and delicious. The staff is super friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend.
The cashier was friendly, the donut was DELECTABLE and the ambiance was perfect. New favorite spot! (they have gluten free options as well)
My wife and I had the same experience; guilt over wasted calories. When the food is worth it then I don't care about calories, when it's an overall bad experience then I should have just gone with something else. Here is the issue, we both thought the donuts were completely lacking in taste. You take your first bite and because of the presentation you are someone optimistic. There is the initial "Mmmm... I got something in my stomach", then the subsequent bites you are like "is there anything in this thing?
We were excited to get a donut and coffee. We arrived at 11am and happy to still see plenty of donuts in the window so we ordered 2 and 2 coffees and were told since they were getting ready to close they weren?t making any more coffees. This was 2 hours before they were scheduled to close AND they still had donuts left. He gave us 2 free donuts after paying for 2 but had nothing to wash them down with. Won?t be going there again!
Amazing little donut shop. Was in town for a conference and hit this place up daily for a donut and Americano. Highly recommend. Food was delicious. Staff were friendly. Brilliant little patio area above the shop to enjoy. 10/10
I finally made it to this place during my final days in San Diego on a friend's suggestion. I have tried several donut shops in the city and honestly, I see the light in the dark with Devil's Dozen. . Tucked away on Kettner Boulevard in Little Italy, this branded cafe taunts and tempts anyone with a sweet tooth walking past their roadside, walkup counter. The donuts are made from scratch phresh daily and are available until what is in stock is sold out, so if you want the best of the variety, get there earl
We got to the shop around 9:30 and the selection was limited, so go early! We tried a vanilla old fashioned, coconut lime, raspberry whipped, and salted caramel. If I had to pick a favorite, I would definitely choose the the vanilla old fashioned. The texture and flavor were off the charts! The other flavors were delicious too. We devoured them all, like animals, on the way to the zoo! They are on the pricey side so that would keep me from visiting often but I?d definitely love to try more flavors. The serv
No restroom is available here. Walked for half an hour in anticipation. No restroom :( would be great as a grab and go but not to eat in. There?re sittings. Donuts look beautiful but usually places with sittings have a restroom or at least share where the restroom is available nearby.
This place deserves a better rate!! Their donuts are the best i tried. Fresh and each time you will find new flavours. Really good espresso ? Welcoming and smiling team + a nice terrace upstairs to relax
I went to Devils Dozen last week with some girlfriends and it was AMAZING! The donuts were incredible (always made fresh by the hour) and the Vanilla latte I had was the perfect balance to the rich donuts. We had the vanilla glaze, cinnamon crunch and lunar new year (orange flavor)! Local tip: show up early and get first pick of the various flavors! Once they sell out, they are closed for the day. The rooftop was so gorgeous, overlooking Kettner St., but still providing a cozy and intimate setting. I was
This place is a must-visit! These aren't your average donuts?they're next-level, gourmet creations with unique flavors and a perfect balance of texture and sweetness. The craftsmanship and quality ingredients are evident in every bite. The vibe of the shop and staff is just as great as the donuts?cool, modern, and welcoming.
The donuts are delicious! The flavor combinations range from the usual to super creative. Prices range from $2-3.50 per donut, but these aren't tiny donuts. There are a few spots outside and up on the roof to sit and enjoy your donuts. The information on Google maps says that this place closes at 3 p.m., but they really close when the last donut is sold. Being that they're so popular that usually translates to them closing about noon.
We traveled all the way from Scottsdale, AZ, eagerly anticipating a great experience. However, our excitement turned to disappointment when we arrived during rush hour and found that the doughnuts were stale. ?? and service was non-existence. The location, however, is on point.
Love the location (Little Italy) and the upstairs seating area is really nice. You can feel the sea breeze up there. I ordered the salted caramel and the cinnamon sugar donuts with an iced americano. Americano was good. Cinnamon sugar donut was very tasty. The salted caramel was a bit too salty (and I like salty foods, which is the reason for 4/5 stars). The base donut portion was very tasty though (super fluffy with a nice chew to it).The workers there were very friendly as well. I will definitely be comin
The donuts are on point, but the drinks, location and upstairs area make this place a must go to! The Carmel crunch donut was amazing. My boy got a hot chocolate, it was his favorite ever and I can vouche it was quite good. The upstairs has amaizng views and just a cool spot to chill for breakfast.
Delicious donuts!! I love their tropical flavors like the passionfruit and orange and these play on coconut and lime and blueberry coconut. I?m dying to sit up top sometime but I can at least attest their donuts are tasty and worth the higher price tag.
Absolutely heavenly and eternally delicious each and every time! My favorite thus far have been the guava cream or guava and some sort of relevant exotic tropical concoction....to die for. The flavors they come up with are delightfully noticeable to their name and much to my sugar temper the donuts are rarely if ever overly sugared. Perfect sized donuts nothing in the name of excess and all done in good taste. The coffee and teas are very satisfactory in quality as well. Devil's Dozen certainly is heavenl
I always stop here anytime I walk by! They always have a fabulous selection of doughnuts that cater to all taste buds and flavor cravings. The menu rotates weekly with lots of specialty, seasonal and vegan options! I have never been disappointed. Each bite is decadent and delicious. You can't go wrong here!
It was my first time, and let me tell you, this place is awesome. I mean, look at all the plants, how beautiful! The matcha I had was great, took my partner a Mexican mocha, and she loved it. I don't know which donut I liked more, the raspberry whipped or the Homer lol
The glazes and toppings are the focus here! Delicious yeast and cake donuts as the base, creatively topped/glazed. We tried mango pineapple and blackberry yuzu paired with a Mexican mocha and almond milk matcha... A perfect way to start the day sitting upstairs and watching the bay.
My Homer donut had mold on it. It tasted like it was at least a day old, and I didn't notice the mold until I was more than half way done with it. This is upsetting as I love their donuts normally but when you're charging $3 to $4 a donut, they should be made the morning of or night before. It's disgusting that they're selling donuts that have mold on them.
Upstairs patio is adorned with trendy furniture and a beautiful display of succulents and vine plants. Feels welcoming and relaxing! great coffee and so many wonderfully unique donut flavors to choose from!!
There was short line but worth it. The key like donut was delicious. Tree leches donut was good but low on sugar. It is lot sweet
My wife and I live in Boise and are avid donut enthusiasts that have made it a point to find the best donut in the US. Without question Devils Dozen?s Vanilla Glaze is the best donut on the west coast. I never forget to stop by when I'm in San Diego. It's a must. Their other donuts are also great, but the gem is the vanilla glaze. You better get there before 11 am if you want one.
Donuts are 5-star. Made fresh hourly, you'll never encounter a cold stale bite. Flavors change weekly so there's always something new to sample. My one true love is yeasted donuts. Devil's Dozen does not disappoint, their yeast donuts are light, fluffy, but still have a wonderful chew to them. Their cake donuts are my favorites in San Diego. They have a beautiful crisp exterior and a soft interior with a delicate crumb. The salted caramel is a menu mainstay and my favorite cake flavor. My suggestion is to
Good donuts with varied, original flavors and a cute upstairs open area with some tables and a good view. Bad coffee. We highly enjoyed the vanilla bean and strawberry cheesecake flavors.
We really enjoyed these donuts, they deserve a better rating! We tried a few and all the flavors matched the names to a T. Great view upstairs and the only thing is we wish we tried this place earlier!
The donuts tasted amazing. The chocolate and vanilla donuts were fresh out of the oven and glazed which made them taste even better. They had a good selection of donuts that seemed to be constantly replenished. I am only giving 4 stars because of the really long wait time. We waited almost 45 mins in line to get these donuts even though there were at most 8 people in front of us. If they can figure out their wait time, I will definitely come here more often.
What a Beautiful Dounut Shop! Puts all others to shame for ambience and coolness factor! Looks like they sell out early, we were only able to try the Powdered Donut holes. Good not great.
I had the chocolate glazed, and I think it?s the best donut I?ve had so far in San Diego. I will definitely come back and try other flavors!
Stopped by on the way to the Little Italy Farmer's Market last Saturday. Got the Guava Creamcheese and the Blueberry Cheesecake for $7 total! I would recommend both, but I can honestly say that that Guava Creamcheese is the best donut I have ever had. Thank you for the great experience, Maddie!
This was such a great place! I really enjoyed the raspberry filled donut! It was soft and fluffy and the jam was to die for. The pumpkin donut holes were also super tasty.
The best donut I?ve ever had in my entire life (and I?m not talking from a sheltered perspective of someone that?s only ever had Dunkin? Donuts). These donuts are perfectly cooked on the outside and fluffy inside and while they?ve got a bunch of cool specialty ones, the vanilla bean is all you need to make you fall in love. Lots of seating here and coffee and tea options. Will definitely come back for more.
Bought a dozen for my coworkers last day... Good: -It was a random Thursday morning so no line. -Presentation was nice, they obviously look pretty. Bad: -$40 for a dozen felt like a lot. I'm fine paying more for boutique, novelty donuts once in awhile. But yikes. -Greasy AF -Some were tasty but some were very not great. I was expecting a sensory explosion. Overall these were just average donuts. The bridge too far: -5% surcharge makes my head hurt. $40 for a dozen isn't enough to cover your costs? I'm gu
Spectacular donuts , and is that a hint of cayenne pepper in the chocolate?? There is a little bit of extra bite, if I'm not mistaken which is yummy . In the heart of Little Italy , I turned up as a tourist due to great local reviews and an easy stroll from elsewhere . The ladies working the place recommended a donut for me and the coffee was great too . I sat outside and enjoyed the morning breeze for about 20 minutes . As a tourist , the San Diego perfect weather thing won't ever grow old... let's just pu
I have been to 43 states and this is undoubtedly my favorite donut shop in the country. Their donuts are very fluffy and yeasty, and their coffee is good too. Go for the interesting flavors - brown butter was delicious. They have very kind staff and I have always had quick service, although be prepared for a line on the weekends. I love working from here as they have a great space upstairs with outlets and WiFi. It is outdoors but covered which is great for being able to see your laptop screen. Highly recom
I love how they change up their flavors everyday. My go to is always the devil?s vanilla old fashioned. I also tried the lemon bar and the whipped cream was delicious????
I passed by the place daily headed to work, and there was rarely a day that the line wasn't wrapped around the corner. I bought an assorted dozen, and as you can see in the picture they went quickly. My coworkers loved them and we definitely decided these were a must have again. My two favorites were the berry & cream followed by the Nutella stuffed one. I recommend them especially early in the morning.
THE BEST DONUTS in San Diego. The Chocolate Old Fashion is a MUST ??
Nice rooftop! We ordered the vanilla old fashioned donut and the pumpkin spiced one. I?d definitely recommend the vanilla donut, not too sweet.
I spent $6 on two donuts. First bite of the Pistachio tasted of day old oil. It was doughy and had no pistachio flavor. So disappointing. And the chocolate was very dark and wasn?t sweet enough-also doughy. I?m so sad as I was so looking forward to an amazing donut. Maybe they were having an off day. Sigh.
Such a cute window donut shop. The donuts were good, but the drinks were certainly not their specialty. Still good, but recommend to stick to the donuts. Service was quick and friendly!
I always thought that the best donuts are in NYC until I visited Devil?s Dozen in Little Italy, SD. This donut shop makes absolutely delicious, flavorful donuts. They have many different kinds for any taste. The coffee was brewed to perfection. I tried only 4 flavors so I will be definitely coming back to get the rest. And keep in mind that you can go up to the rooftop which is very cool stylized area with a spectacular view of the bay.
I?ve attempted to enjoy these donuts a handful of times, but they?re usually sold out of all of the unique flavors and (as others have mentioned) the time involved in purchasing donuts is prohibitive so I typically go elsewhere. When I went last week, I noticed this sign around the side of the shop for the first time. Not sure how long it?s been up, but wow- I will not be spending money here anymore. Alternative suggestions to the disgusting posting that discourages both hungry and helping humans: include
Great fluffy doughnuts that aren't too sweet! I also enjoyed the Mexican mocha. My only suggestion would be for the shop to hire more people--there was just one staff member preparing our two drinks which took a few minutes to fulfill.
We tried two old fashioned and two raised varieties. The old fashioned were super dry and tasted like they were at least a day old. The raised were okay, but definitely not great.
Lemon Poppy donut did not disappoint. Full lemon flavor was excellent! The donut itself was moist and delicious. I came for the carmel old fashioned but they were out and the split decusion to get the lemon was a great one.
Whatever it is you are thinking about this place, you would not expect nothing more than a good time eating a donut.
Great donuts, friendly staff with great service, and an awesome upstairs patio to enjoy your treats on. It did take them a minute to make our coffee but it wasn't a terrible wait and everything we had was worth waiting for.
Fresh and delicious donuts. We tried mexican chocolate and raspberry cheesecake flavours. Very nice environment upstairs.
Delicious donuts! And the Mexican Mocha was a treat for sure. We got there 10 minutes before they opened so that we didn't miss anything. We were not disappointed. We took our treats upstairs to enjoy and admire the view.
Absolutely delicious! Best donut I have had in San Diego!
Amazing delicious donuts! ?? Just make sure to choose wisely or you'll just end up selling your soul for donuts!! ?? ?? ??
Donuts are amazing, the best I?ve had in the city. The way the shop is set up is incredibly inefficient and frustrating to navigate: complicated coffee drinks and only 1 person there to make them + fill donut orders, leads to very long - unnecessary - wait times. It has taken 20 minutes to serve 4 customers, with similarly slow rates on multiple occasions (which is not the employees fault, just a poorly designed setup). If they had separate drink & donut lines, hiring 1 more person, it would make things muc
You better know what you want Check the menu before going. It's busy at times I hear it gets slow at points but I haven't been there yet for those slow points. Always busy when I go replace to get a unique donut. Very tasty The flavors will surprise you how authentic they taste. Like a minute to anyone not a dollar donut. It doesn't of these are cost a little. But worth it for taste only.
Doughnut selection is small, but what they have is incredible. The Vanilla Bean was amazing. The tres leches was okay. The Cold Brew Coffee was incredible. We may be back just for that!
Absolutley amazing! The best donuts I've ever had!
Donuts are top notch! Vanilla bean was my favorite. Coffee was great too!
Good location with some parking. Great donuts and awesome coffe drinks. The patios on top has a good view as well. Highly recommended.
Big doughnuts with lots of variety in flavors some very unique. Definitely worth trying.
Owned by the SDCM Restaurant Group behind Kettner Exchange Devil?s Dozen debuted in 2015, a Little Italy address predictably generating lines that the shop?s limited size continues to struggle with now. Narrow across the alley from KEX, a single window beneath the rooftop patio in charge of selling fried Dough plus elaborate Lattes to the Soy or Oat Milk crowd, guests can expect to wait, wait and wait some more while one guest has their whole six-drink order prepared even though others just desiring Pastri
Edit: back to normal!! My favorite, the classic chocolate glaze, now comes covered in these super hard little jawbreakers and other little sprinkles. I loved the donut because of how soft and slightly chewy It is. Now I have to be super careful while chewing and that ruins the experience. I'm hoping that's an October thing (?)
Best donuts ever! Fresh and full of flavor.
The seasonal coffee was delicious. I had the orange cinnamon latte, it was awesome. The sugar cinnamon and vanilla bean doughnuts were delicious. Unfortunately the banana doughnut was not good in my opinion. Everything was very fresh. Plan accordingly because when they run out you have to wait until the next day.
Such amazing service! I was in town visiting and walked by when they were closing. They were so sweet and gave me a free bag of their last donuts! Will definitely come back and try them all next time.
You might be confused by the reviews and it might go to say it depends on your taste. I agree that the service could be improved and more efficient but i really enjoy their donuts. It reminds me of Krispy Kreme donuts with a nice outer texture but the inside is so light, chewy and melt in your mouth. They have different flavors all the time to keep it interesting and I?ll go as far to say that it?s the best donut I?ve ever had. I think it?s worth trying to see if you enjoy it as much as I did.
Ah-maz-ing. I had to kill a few minutes while in Little Italy and was looking for a coffee. I stumbled upon this gem whilst wandering the streets and I'm oh so glad. I tried the pineapple coconut donut and that was literally one of the freshest, most gooey, and delicious donuts I've ever had. Hands down. Being from Missouri and having the pleasure of Hurts Donuts - this was on point. The staff was really helpful and the hidden upstairs patio seating area was an awesome place to take in the city, while enj
These donuts are ??????!! However, the line definitely requires patience and commitment. Worth it! My favorite donut place in San Diego!
I really wanted to like these more, arrived at 1030 on a Saturday and picked up 4 different cake donuts and two raised filled. The filled donuts (Boston cream and oreo cheesecake) were both great, high quality fillings and good texture, they were the standouts; the cake donuts however all had such a pronounced oil flavor that the flavoring for each option was almost lost. The service is also quite slow, as a single person was both preparing drinks and retrieving donuts. The location is great, decor and bra
Best donuts in San Diego. The brown butter + crumb is life changing.
We visited here twice on our recent trip to San Diego and fell in love with the donut shop. The donuts and coffee are 5 star and the staff is incredibly friendly and wonderful. We live in Portland, Or and are used to great donuts and these definitely don?t disappoint! Also, they?re much more affordable than Portland donuts which was a huge bonus. They do close early once they sell out for the day but that wasn?t a problem for us because we got up early each morning!
I love me a fluffy donut, and these are so fluffy and unique with different flavors every day! Nice chill seating upstairs.
Rate 5 for Ingredients and taste. 1 for service. There is only 1 person taking orders, making coffee drinks and serving donuts. With 5 customers in front of me, it took 35 mins! There is not as high a demand as it seems. The line is due to the wait, not the amount of people ordering. They sell out of the classic flavors early because no one wants to eat their other flavors. There are other specialty donuts in the area so I won't ever go back to wait 35 mins again.
Paying cash left me realizing the workers do a little more than just work for a place called the devils dozen. They refused to give me my change saying ?I don?t give change?. I was dumbfounded, but having bitten into the vanilla glaze donut and all was forgiven. Quality ingredients with devilish service will teach you a lesson about paying cash here but the atmosphere and donuts will make up for it. 10/10 place to watch anime at in the morning.
This place is getting five stars based on the quality of their donuts... They do sell out extremely fast and it is a bit of a bum out when you get there at a reasonable time in the morning and you see they already closed. That being said, the one time I got there and donuts were still available was a great experience. Everything tasted outstanding and their donuts flavors were very creative and imaginative. I would highly recommend getting to this place early in the morning and enjoying one (or two) of th
The donuts here are excellent. I especially like the taste of their old fashioned ones. They're not overly sweet either which make them easy to eat including their caramel one (so easy that I had three donuts in one sitting, so not sure if that's a good or bad thing LOL). The main reason I gave 3 stars is because it says online that they make fresh donuts hourly and are open till 3 pm which is false. We came at 10 AM and they were nearly out of donuts. I bought the last two regular size donuts and all they
Slowest service ever! You would think going to a donut shop would be a quick stop and go, but everytime I visit (local) it takes them 5+ min at the window to give me two donuts that are already premade. I really don't understand why grabbing two donuts that are within hand reach takes that long. Perhaps they need more staffing so the cashier is not also in the back trying to check on freshly made donuts or another window for quick orders. But overall the line and wait is not worth the donut. Donut bar is mu
Solid choice for fresh and fancy donuts! Dropped in at about 9:30am on a Saturday morning and no line ????. Though a few of the staples were sold out there was still a good selection. Got the lemon poppy old fashioned, tres leches, and mango berry. All had really good flavoring and not masked by sugar. I much prefer this place over Donut Bar.
This is a small street front take out donut/coffee place. Besides a couple of drinks, they have an assortment of donuts. These aren't the cheapest donuts, about $2-3 each. I have to say these donuts are quite fresh...I went early and it was a tad warm still. I got a chocolate coffee crunch and an almond matcha...both were soft, fluffy, and chewy. There is a hint of oil, but it doesn't have as bad of a taste as other donut places. They could seem uncooked when biting into it, but it's just the freshness of
Quaint little donut place. It's easy to miss because it's so small. The selection is good, and I like that it's not the traditional flavors. Part of the fun is trying all the unique flavors they offer. I recommend the blood orange donut. The only down side is that you pay a good price for each donut, and they don't offer any special deals.
The dough part of the doughnut is like a little pillow -- such a perfect texture. There are some really unique flavors and always something new to try. And the upstairs seating area offers some limited views of the bay. My only complaint is that service can be slow. Usually only one or two people trying to fill orders. And if you come after a busy day, they tend to be behind on frosting and the case will be empty even though they'll have lots of fresh donuts in back.
Fantastic specialty donuts! However, the woman at the register does not seem to be a morning person. Didn't even try to crack a smile and was actually kind of rude. In fact, she charged me for a donut I never asked for. But hey, maybe I caught her on a bad day??
The coffee is fine but the donuts are amazing. I had the Tres Leches donuts, it tasted sort of like a donut that was been dipped into a glass of milk like an Oreo. I never thought I would want to try that flavor profile but let me tell you you need to try it. Being surprised by donuts after having spent a lifetime eating donuts is not an easy thing to do. so come here if you haven't been WOW'ed by donuts in a while and want to change that.
