California Marketplace

Whenever we travel home to Kentucky we take the opportunity to stop in to this little gem on AA highway. The people are always friendly and the prices are good. I usually buy my yearly Grippos purchase here as they typically have the best deals on them. My families absolute favorite are the morning donuts. We only get donuts once a year and this is the place we choose, they are fantastic but make sure you get there early to get the best overall choices and selections. Stop in and check this place out!

Really nice market that has a little bit of everything. Very few things you can't find here. A little pricey, but you're paying for the convenience. Amazing pastry selection as well. Fresh produce, breads, dairy, fresh and frozen meats and canned vegetables, baking needs, etc. Deli meats and hot food options. Great little store!

This place is great. Needed gas while on a drive so I pulled in here and ended up eating some amazing chicken. They also have a deli that makes great looking sandwiches. It?s basically a small market with a little bit of everything. There are picnic tables outside under a covering if you wanna eat there. The people that work there are super friendly. I highly suggest stopping if you are ever in the area.

We always stop when we travel to Cincinnati. Meat deals, baked goods, deli and prepared food . You can always find something yummy.

Staff are always friendly, helpful, and smiling. My daughter says it's the best fried chicken around. So very grateful for the water fill station!

For a smaller store they have everything along with great sales and very reasonable pricing

I love this place. They offer an amazing variety of daily homemade meals and quick bite foods, as well as hand-made dips, sides, desserts, etc. Everyday. I am never disappointed. I go in to get one or two items and leave with multiple bags every time. The staff is always so helpful and friendly. I sometimes drive 25 minutes out of my way just to stop in and see what they have made up today. One very happy long-term customer here. Keep up the great work! :)

I love stopping by here! It's a bigger place on the side of the road, with nearly anything you'll need, coffee, donuts, meals, and drinks of all sorts. My dad and I got honey here recently, and as a honey fan, I love it! The donuts here are the best I've ever had, and the coffee is good too! Highly recommend for a quick stop for gas and snacks.

They have many grocery items here, fresh baked goods, cigarettes, clean bathrooms, and a friendly and knowledgeable staff. If you need anything for a long drive (snacks, drinks, premade lunches, cookies, chips, etc) or just to pick up some groceries on the way home, check this place out. We've stopped every time on our way through during our travels. They are a gas station as well.

Very convenient. Has great deli services, fried chicken, and pizza. You can get gas, and water there too. Great people working there. Glad we live near.

I went in for the first time, and could not believe how big it was in there. The prices were very decent, and they have so many different things. Staff was very helpful.

One of the cleanest and most stocked markets you can visit. Often stop on my travels and even come home with my groceries at times. Their Deli is absolutely the best with fresh fried chicken and chicken strips as well as other condiments that are made in store. The employees are super and friendly. The prices are great and they always have great prices on their sale items. Just a great place to stop to get gas, food, or groceries when traveling.

Love shopping here for their great deli items, especially their outstanding chicken tenders and many homemade items plus all their store wide specials. The staff is outstanding they make it always a pleasure to shop here. The variety is excellent and fair pricing. Gas prices are always lower than Alexandria. I prefer shopping here than any larger grocery store.

I love this store. Some prices are steep, but they almost always have what you need as far as groceries. Great meats. Their precooked hot boneless wings are great. The butcher even brought out some extra steaks just so my husband and I could buy more than what was out on the floor. Staff super friendly. And they are open 24/7. Perfect for me since I'm a night owl.

We moved out to Foster about 3 years ago expecting to have NOTHING nearby or convenient but this market, y'all...The gas is always the cheapest around, the fried chicken is amazing, their donuts are SO good and the pizza is to die for! It's so nice having this place so close! They also have any essentials you may need. It's a full grocery store!

Purchased some high priced ice cream only to find it covered in ice, poor texture and a not so favorable taste. We returned in under 10 days, with a receipt and found it to be a Very poor experience. The woman made a big deal about it and called the manager. We were given the current sale price of 5.99(Reg. 7.99) and wasn't offered a store credit, which we'd used as we needed a few things. After this we decided we wouldn't be purchasing anything from the store. We've used this store and have spent a lot

Great breakfast sandwiches and gravy

I am not often in the area, but when I am, I stop specifically for the bakery! I love the glazed croissants in specific. They are delicious, and they are large. All of their donuts are amazing. They have a great variety for a country store. Great prices as well. Bathrooms were clean, and you can get all the essential groceries and produce there as well.

Wonderful people an a great atmosphere. Prices are a steel! If u get the chance stop on in. The bakery is the best thing ever. Made fresh every morning. Exotic flavored doughnuts too. Love this place!

It's a get it all here place to shop. Gas prices are good, they have Chester chicken and marketplace pizzas. Hot food, cold cuts, groceries, and so on. It's not a Walmart, but it is really convenient. All in all it's pretty amazing considering it's location. I stop in once every few weeks when I'm in the area.

Please consider an ethanol free pump, you would get 100% of my business. It?s great for boats and small engines.

The people that work there are very friendly. They have a good selection of groceries at good prices. They also have fresh prepared pizza, awesome fried chicken. If you need groceries or gas for your vehicle, they are open 24 hrs a day and I feel like I'm visiting friends anytime I go there. Love that place.

Love it here! For a family owned store, they do a great job competing with chain grocery stores. Great quality and great prices on fresh meat and deli! Great donuts! If you want to shop locally owned without putting a dent in your budget, this is the place!

The prices there are expensive can I get the good store to go to if you go to it's expensive in rich store to go to but it's a good store

We always stop here when we visit Graves at Odd fellow cemetery in Johnsville. It's the perfect place to meet up with the family on the way. The employees are always nice, the restrooms are clean, and the chicken is perfect for lunch on the road. This market place has a grocery store as well as gas, a little of everything in one location.

Stopped here for lunch after a job site visit. Good food selection and reasonable prices. Will eat here again next time I am in the area.

Was a great store until they sold out.prices are so high now it's crazy.Do not carry my brand of tobacco anymore Stop in yesterday for a onion tried to sell it to me for$3.49. I said that can not be right.After finally getting the manager,she said well it's $1.48 a pound and the onion was over two pounds. I said no way and then she said ,there must have been dust on the scale.So becareful if you buy a scaled item,make sure you wipe the dust off first. Cashier's are very nice and friendly. Wow! A nice surprise convenient store. Large selection of food from ready to go to items of all food groups to prepare! Also " soup to nuts" things a traveler might need to a quick stop for locals. With gas pumps, one stop!

I travel about 60 miles to see my Drs. And the best things about these trips was stopping and getting this great chicken from the their deli. But then something happen, It tastes different now. I ask the team if they were preparing it different and they said no. I have stopped several time's since then, but the different chicken taste is still there. It?s just not the same to me and I truly miss their chicken

I have stop here a couple times a week since they opened, very convenient. Sad to say I made my last stop this a.m. I stop to fill up and love their donuts, so while looking at 4 trays ( 1 of which was in the case) was told they were all for a big order and was unable to purchase 3 donuts. This is not how I would expect to be treated as a loyal customer. If not for sale dont put in display case.

Good sales there and conveniently located on AA Highway. The pastries, desserts and treats are amazing! They do a great job on the cakes. Sometimes, the bakery smell compels come to buy something.

Used to like this place, I?m in here almost everyday, for years, until this morning. Last night they sold me a bottle of Fabreze that I got home to find was completely odorless. Took it back to change it this morning and they wouldn?t without a receipt. I wasn?t offered a receipt, nor did I ask for one. Why would I, it?s Fabreze? I?ve bought 50 bottles of the stuff before, never a problem. I spend around $300 a week in this place on gas, but they would rather lose me over $6. Just ridiculous!

I drive 35 minutes 6:30 am just to get their donuts. Peanut butter filled is my fave and I shared one with my little dog, Moe this morning. We give this place 5 stars.

Our favorite tiny grocery store/gas station we always visit when headed to West Virginia. Great deli, great overall selection and food is always fresh. Employees are super helpful & friendly. Stop by sometime & check them out.

This place has it ALL! We just moved to California and it's closer to home than Alexandria. Cheap gas, killer fried chicken, donuts, a deli, and a grand beer selection! If you're passing thru...don't pass it up!

It's a nice place to stop. Nice people and more in there than you would think. When the nearest major grocery store is 26 miles away ,this place is like a blessing.

This is a little grocery store in the middle of nowhere! It has gas too, but it us like a little Kroger close to home for people way out in the country! Love the selections, they have a deli, and meat selections, it is just great!

Was really surprised of what all was in this little supermarket. The meats are BEAUTIFUL and very reasonable. Great selection on deli lunch meats and the breakfast items were still being put out. I was truly impressed. Wish you were closer to home.... Thomasville NC

I go out of my way to buy meat from California market. I can count on a good quality cut. And their fresh fried fish and chicken with potato wedges. .....YUUUMMM!!!

Hands down one of my favorite gas stations. Great warm-ready-to-eat deli. Wide selection of sweets. And the perfect small grocery when you need road trip snacks or that forgotten item on your grocery list.

Cute country side grocery store. Prices are slightly high, but they are the only game in town. They also have a beer cave, but no wine. :( Great place for staying by Lake Kincaid. We had to check out over the gas station counter, which is increbly awkward. Store is family owned, so staff are younger family friends and mostly in high school. Didn't know how to scan a few things.

We usually stop here on our way to my mom's house or if we're heading east this way. They have just about anything you want and have a nice kitchen with hot food/deli items and fresh baked goods.

This was my first visit to California Marketplace and I am impressed. This is a quaint little market with competitive every day prices and great weekly sales. And has the efficiency of a convenient store. The employees were helpful and friendly. I will definitely be going back again

Well, this used to be a great little store.,.but since it changed owners,the pricing has shot way up ..also they don't carry the products we used to buy.we used to do a lot of our weekly shopping there,now it's worthwhile to go on to the local Walmart..we just stop there now if we only need 1or 2 items.. it's convenient , but not worth heavy shopping anymore...

Love this place, got lunch made daily, mashed taters are good. (Loaded) fried chicken is good, jerked chicken is good. Wings are good. They got sammiches too. Also good.

I have lived all over the United States and have eaten donuts in every major city. None compare to the fresh made donuts at the California Marketplace. They are huge, superfresh and taste incredible. Honestly, these are the best donuts I have ever had. Make sure you get there early because you will get a better selection!

Great little grocery store out in the middle of no where. You can get almost any thing there. Doughnuts, sandwiches, fried chicken, and a deli. It is a great place to stop for a snack or pick up things for your picnic. Shop and have fun!!

Love knowing this little market is about 10 miles from home and can provide our needs on most items. This helps us from driving 25 miles to Alexandria or 30 to Maysville. Love to buy good quality meats from here and usually cheaper than Kroger. Also, quick meal of chicken tenders & potato wedges are a big hit in our family.

The meat selection is good if you look you can find great deals. It's convenient because it's the only store for 20 in either direction but can be expensive. Nice clean store

The chicken fimgers and potato wedges are delcious. Also they have a great selection of fresh meats, deli food, ready-to-cook items, etc., and decent selection of many other items throughout. I am always impressed with what I can find.

Never no coffee every time my wife and I stop there. It's like no one in there can make more coffee. Otherwise not a bad place

Love them. Only thing is they are super expensive. If they went down on price I would defietally 5 star them. They have the best and most fresh meat around. They are my daily store and I spend some money in there every week. Thanks for being great.

Awsome place with the best Fried chicken. And if you get the early in the morning the donuts are still warm since they make them right there

Nice community grocery/convenience store. The store was very well kept. The prices are very reasonable for this not being a big chain store and the people that work there are very friendly. This is not a place close to where I live but if it were I would visit more often.

I was staying at my sister's in northern KY. She lives rather rurally and shops here on occasion. It offers a good selection of items and she says the prices are not that much higher than the chain stores. I will say that it the current climate with COVID-19, mask wearing was very lax.

Great place! - Full grocery - gas - hot food, easy access/parking, restrooms, outdoor eating area. Also has firewood for sale in Winter, Amish Cabins, storage buildings, dog houses, & outdoor furniture. Water fill for water tanks, gas grill exchange, etc.

Love this place. Not overpriced for not being a chain store. Love there chicken. They have some great stuff, along with some great deals. Best thing to happen to that area when it came along.

I stopped for a drink, but this place is a hidden gem ??. The food looked and smelled great . I grabbed a quick snack and hope to come back when I have more time .

It's ok to run in for milk or bread. But can be pricey on some items. you pay for the convenience of not running all the way to town. Employees are all friendly and helpful.

Stopped in to buy 2 20oz Powerade bottles that were priced $1.19 in the cooler. At checkout they wanted 4.99 each. I said really? Clerk said yup that's how much they are. I walked out. I hope it was just a pricing mistake not a price gouging policy.

I had the pleasure of talking with Sarah, in the deli. I ordered a piece of chicken. Sara was very polite, and courteous. She really seemed as if I was important as a customer even though I only ordered 1 thing. I felt like she went above and beyond. She really enjoyed being at her job. Thank youSara. There was a sign posted for Campbell's soup (small cans) for 3 for 4.00 I bought 3 cans didn't realize until I'd gotten home that they had charged me 4.49 PER CAN. The pound +of ground beef I had purchased was only 5 dollars and something. I won't be buying more soup here

Has a variety of things: groceries, gas, restrooms, hot food (that is delicious), fresh donuts (also yummy), etc. Fast, friendly service. If you're traveling AA hwy (route 9) from Alexandria to Ashland it's a good midpoint.

Great food choices in the hot food department. A little pricey on some things. But a good selection. Staff is always helpful and courteous.

Lots of variety of travel essentials as well as snacks but hated the chicken..it smelled amazing.. I wasn't even hungry but it smelled so good ...awful

Their customer service makes you feel like your family. Also they have pre-made cold cut sub sandwiches that are one of my favorite items in the store.

These people work very hard to make your shopping experience a pleasure. I go there early in the morning like 450am and I'm always greeted with a smile

Good place to stop halfway between Alexandria and Ashland on the AA Hwy. A gas station, grocery store, and restaurant in 1 place. The hot food is very good and the prices in general are fair.

Great place and has almost everything you need even if it isn't the size of a full grocery store. Food is great here, prices depend on items, some things are really cheap and others expensive compared to big stores

The market place is the go to place! Whether you live in the area or are just passing thru. Fresh donuts in the morning. Fried chicken in the afternoon, it's all fresh and delicious. They are are full service grocery store
