Lives up to the hype. The orange and olive oil was my favorite. It had an incredible orange flavor, perfect oiliness, perfect texture. Every time I?m in Portland try to swing by and try a new flavor. ??
A Very Sweet Adventure at Blue Star Donuts on Division St., Portland I finally made it to one of Portland?s most talked about donut shops after a friend raved about it and let me say, it was a sugar-fueled adventure. I grabbed a dozen to sample the variety, and while many donuts hit the mark, some leaned a bit too far on the sweet side for my taste while others completely missed the mark. . That said, the craftsmanship and creativity are undeniable. Standouts: O.G.: Soft, fluffy, and chewy with a beautif
Im not a big fan of donuts in general. But I think it was a good one. I liked their service though
I placed an order on the website for pickup and requested curbside delivery. The associate called and told me they are out of the beverage and do not offer curbside delivery. While I was disappointed, she promptly offered to make me a different drink and when I arrived to pick up she offered me an additional donut on the house. I really appreciated the kindness and customer service that made me want to come back again.
After hearing so much hype about this place I am honestly a bit disappointed. The donuts are good, really good even but not nearly as good as I had been told and not close to the best donut in Portland.
Best blue star donut experience. I?m now hooked. Often choose one and it was always not my thing. Well no more! I?m not a huge fan of their old fashioned as they have too fried of a taste but they?re my husband?s favorite. Favorites were the OG which was very light and airy and the maple which is more of the cake donut. Staff was super friendly and humored us with a fun photo too. Will for sure come back.
The person behind the counter was very approachable and kind. They were very helpful and knowledgeable about Blue Star Donut history. I was so happy to get my usual plus some delicious coffee. Definitely stop by for these beauties.
We went later in the day (close to closing) so they were sold out of quite a few donuts but still had a good selection. Staff was friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the OG and cinnamon sugar donut!
I?ve never been into old fashion donuts but I think theirs are incredible. They?re definitely a special sweet treat. Staff is always kind. The person that helped me with my order earlier really made my day!
It?s a great spot to get some fancy donut treats, but it was a real bummer when my daughter and I were met with this sign at 11:50 am. They must be awfully short staffed.
Arrived here they had a sign that they would be closed for 30min, we walked up and down the street multiple times and finally opened, thought the selection would be bigger. The donuts were good, pricey but good, I wouldn?t say kid friendly my 11 year old didn?t want any of the donuts they had to offer. Very trendy, very clean, friendly service. Worth checking out, but not worth the hype in my opinion.
I got a couple donuts and coffee delivered to me. The coffee is great but the donuts seem really overpriced, very heavy/oily in texture and the glaze is overwhelmingly sweet. Not my kinda donut! Seriously you can see the oil saturated in the bottom of the donut. Gross
Such an amazing place and amazing service the guy was so sweet and genuinely seemed like an amazing person the olive olive orange donut was so good actually the most amazing donut iv ever had and the decortations were beautiful it gave a very relaxing and pretty vibe definitely coming back
Extremely disappointed. This was recently voted a top donut spot?! Perhaps if you get the chance to try it fresh but the order is had tasted stale and very old soaked
This was by far the best of four Donut shops we went to while on vacation in Oregon! More impressive than "the most popular" one, even! What really made a lasting impression about this place was how "No nonsense" it was, and the flavors and quality of the donuts! I got the Maple Old Fashioned and the Blueberry Bourbon Basil, the flavor of the Blueberry absolutely blew my socks off! Will highly recommend this place!
Was so excited about this place. Atmosphere is really cool and the donuts are beautiful. But they just aren't that great. The flavors we're good but many of them were too pungent, a little subtlety would go a long way. This was in part to a lot of frosting. The cake donuts were just soft with no variety of texture. They are okay but nothing spectacular.
My dozen donuts with 15% tip came to a total of $50?? i was to shocked to say anything to the clerk. I may be just unobservant but I didn't see any pricing until we were rung up at the register. Left with our delicious smelling donuts for our Sunday family gathering with thoughts of never returning. The family census was they were okay, my old fashioned was amazing. I read a review below someone got a free box when they showed up as the last customer of the day. Might try that next time??
Delicious but a bit on the Pricier side per donut. Really really good donuts. Would definitely come here again. It is on the more premium side of donuts but the price does match the quality. Great selection and my favorite has to be the bourbon blueberry donut. Still need to try the coffee here but I highly recommend if you are looking for a contender for the best donuts in Portland.
These donuts are literally worse than Safeway donuts (which are not bad actually) at 10x the cost. The glaze on everything is like a 1/4 inch thick super sweet frosting that makes the donuts almost impossible to eat. The custard filling in the creme brulee donut is absolutely disgusting
Couldn?t resist checking the place out. Oh my goodness I?m glad I did. My hips might not be. ?? I?ll start by saying the service is excellent. They are very friendly. The young man took the time to explain the donuts. The coffee was perfect. The donuts are not your ordinary donuts. They have maybe around 2 dozen to choose from. Such unique flavors. They ranged from a Meyer Lemon to a Creme Br?l?e that has a dropper inserted on top that is filled with a liquor. They are oh so fresh. If you are passing by you
This place is fantastic! The doughnuts are top notch, when you go into the shop the atmosphere is relaxing, and very clean. If you come early you can still see them making and finishing the doughnuts, they are simple, yet sophisticated doughnuts, definitely a treat to have. A bit on the spendy side, so come there knowing that, and im sure you will enjoy it.
Of course I came in right when they had just one donut left for the day! Ha, thankfully it was a Passionfruit and Coco nibs donut which was extremely delicious! I also enjoyed a Maple Masala Chai that was mind-blowingly tasty. I will definitely be back to try more flavors, and I would definitely recommend others try them out as well!
Best doughnuts in town. Where the old fashioned buttermilk has the top place in my heart, I had to head out to try the apple butter. Did not disappoint. If you?re an apple butter fan, run, don?t walk to get one. This is the perfect Fall treat.
Donuts were great. Coffee was good. The only reason I wouldn?t give it 5 stars is because they don?t serve it in ceramic cups - they serve the water in plastic cups and they gave the coffee in paper to go cups, without even asking. I?m hope they can change a few things to help the environment and promote zero waste.
The donuts were amazing! We went right before they closed, but the donuts were fresh.
Great donut that tastes good but wow what a price. I really enjoyed the donuts but for $15 after tip for 3 donuts they better be fantastic. Obviously the prices are not hurting their business but I don't see how people can afford to eat here frequently though. Now on to the donuts; the maple/bacon is good as is the lemon/olive oil but the standout is the old fashioned; it's really good. Good rise to the donut, nice crispy edges and very good icing, highly recommend this if you're going there anyway.
Not a huge fan of donuts in general but when in Portland this place is a must visit. In my opinion they are better the Voodoo donuts. The donut it self is very soft and the texture is just perfect, not dry at all. Customer service is top notch. Recommended me a seasonal donut which was just amazing. Will be back here again soon!!
Nope, head over to Voodoo Donuts. You?ll thank me later. They talk about how their dough takes 18 hours, but I think 5 minutes in a Kitchen Aid would do? the donuts are a weird texture and the frosting/toppings are just too sweet and I love sweet. Buy one not a box, save your money then like I said go to Voodoo Donuts? you are Welcome.
Went late in morning so many options sold out. Location here is small but of the limited options left we really enjoyed the buttermilk old fashioned. Donuts are a bit denser than other shops so if not a big eater, go slow or share with others...
It?s as advertised: an eclectic mix of donuts. If you?re going for variety and unique flavours, this is the place for you. Great use of unusual flavours that I?ve never even thought of joining together. Some are a hit, others are a miss. That?s the risk you take in exploring variety. I came here as a recommendation from my Uber driver (he blasted VooDoo and championed Blue Star), but I think I should have stuck to my favourite donut joint. Also, if you don?t like super long lineups, this is your joint.
Loved the passion fruit cayenne vegan cake one! They have many vegan options and we tried four that all tasted fresh and soft. The tropical coconut one was my second favorite. I tried their vanilla cream masala chai with oat milk, however it tasted much more watered down than I prefer for my chai so I wouldn?t get that again, perhaps a latte next time. I would return for the donuts though, wish I?d also tried the strawberry cream one!
Came here by the recommendation of a friend. Didn't realize what time they closed, but we ended up being the last customer of the day. They gave us an entire box of donuts free! So that, in addition to the fact it was our first time trying these donuts were an amazing experience, especially after a long drive down from Seattle. It was a great way to start our Portland trip! Thank you Blue Star! We'll definitely be recommending you to others and coming back when we're in the area again.
Best donuts in town. A great selection of old fashioned donuts in novel flavors.
Interesting place. The doughnuts are a good concept and different than anything else . Wayyyy better and more creative than voodoo. The coffee however ruined the experience. Wasn't mixed .
I daresay I enjoyed this place more than Voodoo Doughnut. Both are really good places, but this shop has an overall better donut recipe, in my opinion. They?ve got the best vegan donuts I?ve had in the country, and the most unique old-fashioned that boasts great texture and taste. We tried a good portion of the donuts they had, and not one of them was less than good; several of them had good elements of spiciness from peppers or tanginess from natural fruit flavoring - just unique enough to be interesting,
The shop was easy to find and in a great location, with several interesting stores nearby. There was free parking available on the street. The line was short & quick. But most importantly?my donut was amazing! Lemon poppyseed cake donut. I?ve been craving another ever since.
Pretty darn good for gourmet donuts. I will say these taste like healthier donuts to me. A little on the dense side. They are delicious, but they are not the light as air, sugar drenched ones you may be accustomed to. Some of the wild flavors I just can't like, but some are insanely likeable. It really is a matter of taste. Definitely worth the try, but I'm not so sure I will be in a hurry to return.
Wide variety of donuts, lots of unique flavors I had never heard of. Was originally going to rate 4 stars due to the sheer price per donut but then I remembered how good and worth it each was. Below pictured: top - passion fruit and vanilla, bottom - Apple fritter. Both were delicious and the Apple fritter had real Apple on top of it.
A little pricey but very tasty. Love the cake and old fashion based donuts. Did not like the yeast raised donuts dough.
This might be due to COVID, but the donuts weren't as fresh as I remember, despite picking them up at 7am. In spite of that, the flavors are still on point and I'll be dreaming of another O.G. until my next visit. The buttermilk OF tasted like a cookie ?? and the raspberry rosemary has a sweet, tangy, and her full taste to it that is very umami! Is it worth the hype? I'm not sure, but it's definitely worth trying it! P.S coffee is decent :)
Very tasty doughnuts, if you?re looking for a fancy doughnut place. The bourbon berry flavored one was sooo delicious! Tried the gig filled one that was really good too. Definitely worth a stop!
Donuts were good, but I guess I'm not that picky by comparison. The staff was super friendly and helpful.
Very, very good donuts. A little pricey. Definitely a once in a while treat.
Wonderful Donuts. Ordered one with cream filling and it has been put in the fridge so it made it somewhat hard. Donuts should not be cold, just sayin. Besides that everything else was great and warm or at room temp :)
If you're the type of person who enjoys the more dense cakey donuts this is the place for you. They use a brioche dough, so it's a little denser than the traditional light fluffy donut. I think they have very interesting flavors and everything I had was good and not overly sweet. I came around noon and many of their popular flavors were sold out for the day. I had the blueberry bourbon basil, creme brulee, and beignets.
They were okay, but way too sweet and not enough flavor profile came through. Just sweet
My fiance and I just moved to the area from Rhode Island, a week ago. Today I decided to begin seeking out the perfect Portland donut? I didn?t expect to find it on my first stop. The shop was quiet, because I stopped in around 1:30 but they still had a bunch of donuts. I got a half dozen so we could try a wide selection, and let the man behind the counter pick his favorites for us to try. I feel bad because I completely forgot his name, but his choices were AMAZING. The blueberry donut? Chefs kiss. The cru
Definitely pricey but high quality. I especially liked the passion fruit with coco bits and cayenne, the OG donut, the cinnamon sugar cake, and the lemon poppy seed old fashioned. Place was immaculately clean and the staff were the absolute sweetest.
Doughnuts are good. Flavors are creative. Place is clean and bright.
Blue Star makes the best donuts. Every time we visit Portland we make it a point to stop in. If there is a line, be patient, because it is worth it. Try their Orange Olive Oil and Blueberry Bourbon, or whatever sounds good!
Delicious doughnuts and good coffee. There's a nice array of interesting flavors. The standout of the two flavors we tried was the Raspberry Rosemary buttermilk. The other, The OG, (yeast with horchata glaze) didn't taste exactly as I expected but still tasty. My only feeling was (and why the 4 stars) the doughnuts were not as fresh tasting as I would have expected, but overall they were still very good.
It was hard to choose which donut(s) to get! Yes, it?s pricey for a donut but they were delicious! (I think the pumpkin spice and the apple cider fritter were my favorites)
Finally got to try Blue Star and it hit the spot. Perfectly prepared and flavor combinations made it hard to choose what to try.
Great place to get a unique donut. They locally source as many ingredients as they can and collaborate often. There is limited seating there, so if you have a party of more than two you should get your donuts to go.
Unfortunately, the donut I had was really oily which diminished the flavors I was hoping to taste in the chocolate bergamot donut.
AMAZING donuts! The staff were very playful and nice and the donuts were freaking delicious! My favorites were the CBD chocolate ganache, the Mexican hot chocolate and the Crem Brule!
Very over priced. The donuts were ok, but not worth what we payed.
The chocolate milk donut preceded by the raspberry donut is the perfect start to a morning. The passion fruit is also a stunner. The fruit donuts being such a brightness to the donut. The dough is like a pillow I want to sleep on/eat for eternity.
I was here last month and the employees were so incredibly kind and all of the donuts were to die for. The matcha donut they had and the sesame donut were some of my favs
Pricey, but 100% worth it for the donuts and the regular coffee is a good price and so delicious!!
If I could eat here every day I would. These donuts are amazing and well worth any line you have to stand in. I can't wait to be back in Portland just so I can get another one!
Great service and delicious donuts! Enjoyed it so much I bought a giftcard for a friend. I'll definitely come back.
This is Portland best doughnut shop, not the pink boxed shop. They are cooked well, and flavors are pronounced that make you want to try another type. Non coffee/tea options are lacking but it's worth the expe.
Hands down best donuts in town. This is not like a regular donut shop these are hand crafted flavors not crazy kid flavors with sprinkles and candy on top. We shared both the original cake donut and chocolate cake donut my 10 year old liked both of them. It cost 4.50 per donut but, they are worth every penny. The nitro cold coffee was smooth and delicious. The location is clean, staff were friendly and helpful they were very patient with my son as he tried to pick a donut. parking can be hard to find depend
That's a damn good donut. A must visit, even if your not a don't lover.
We went towards closing time. Most of the donuts were out but definitely the donuts were good. The outside is crunchy and the inside is moist. We definitely think the donuts were better than Voodoo donuts??
Absolutely fantastic place! Perfect for my late breakfast needs! Everything here is fresh and welcoming!
Great donuts, good service. On the pricer end
Best donut shop is Portland. The fall flavors are available and I?d recommend the apple fritter the most. You can order the entire gauntlet like I did though Always a place my wife and I bring guests when they visit.
I appreciate quality fresh, local ingredients as much as the next person but these donuts are way overpriced.
Definitely recommend this store! A must visit place in Portland????
Ordered off of 2 good 2 go. Received 4 donuts they were very good
My favorite donuts in Portland so far. I?m a traditional donut lover - keep it classic. I loved the OG glazed raised donut. It has a lemon zesty flavor. The glazed raised is already classic donut perfection and doesn?t really need anything added to it, but the lemon flavor was delightful. I can?t wait to go back for more.
These are some REAL gourmet donuts! I'm not a big fan of Voodoo because I think they just have trendy flavors but pretty mediocre in terms of taste/quality. Blue Star makes the most moist and delightful cake donuts! And I'm usually not a fan of cake donuts because they're too dense and dry. They also have delicious vegan options for anyone who's vegan or dairy-free. They also have fun unique flavors that I unfortunately can't name off the top of my head right now ?? They close kind of early, and they total
Buttermilk was lovely and hit the 1+ year craving I had of a good donut
Nice service, very friendly. No selection and quality was the problem. Went in early on Saturday to find one variety of donut available. I bought two apple fritters for a total of $8.50. Walked the three blocks back to the car and after each of us took one bite from them we threw them in the trash. Safeway donuts were better and are about a nickel a piece.
Online ordering was easy. Blue star does a great job with specifying which flavors are vegan. Donuts are consistently crafted, I always know what I'm getting. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable. This place makes me so happy! I never end up taking photos of my donuts because I can't wait to eat them!!
This is a great donut place that is very clean and help was very curious. I love donuts and eating at many different places. We have fosters in our town and the donuts taste way better to me. These donuts taste good but tend to be dry. This is a gourmet donut shop so if you have a acquired taste for donuts like these then you should go here. The taste is a little different to me.
Too many tasty sounding options! I'm a donut and coffee fan, aren't we all? They have some really cool and unique options here. Staff was friendly and offered recommendations without hesitation. Really cool, open and airy location with lots of natural light coming in. Very clean and inviting atmosphere. The Orange Olive Oil donut was amazing. Full of flavor and wonderfully light with a nice bit of crisp around the edges. Great place for donuts that are out of the ordinary.
Don't wait in line for Voodoo when you can come here. Fantastic donuts. Had the lemon Polly, the raspberry and the OG and they were all fantastic. Some of the best donuts I ever had, and the coffee was decent too. He there early thought got there at 2pm and a couple flavors I really wanted were sold out already!!
This review is Blue Star Donuts on Hawthorne location and NW 23rd. Donuts lack taste and will set you back $5 or more per donut. Now for that price I expect donut to taste exactly as described, but it doesn't.This place is very popular with tourists. For me it was enough to try it twice and call it good. Also when I spend that much on donuts I expect the service to be a little bit more friendly. Not much, just maybe make eye contact and smile a bit.
I love this shop and we always make a point to visit every time we are in the downtown area. They have super unique flavors and they are definitely a treat. I gave a 4 stars because honestly I don't think the donuts are that AMAZING for the price. They are cool and different, but super pricey and sometimes the flavors just don't work (rosemary in a donut is just not tasty to me)
I am convinced by a donut lover friend to try Blue Star and gave it a try on a hot Sunday. I know they are "fancy donuts" but close to $4 a donut still feels quite expensive to me. The brioche style was already out by the time I arrived so I tried the Chocolate Buttermilk Old-Fashioned and the Passion Fruit Cake. I'm not a big donut fan but I can appreciate the layers with a slightly crunchy crest and moist inside like a good bread. Definitely prefer the original to the cake style. Unfortunately there is no
Literally the best donuts in town. The staff is lovely, especially Lily. 10/10 this is our new regular place.
I came here on a weekday morning, and being my first time there, I asked for recommendations and was basically recommended everything. I didn't want any donuts that were too sweet, so I was recommended the apple cider and chocolate bergamot old-fashioned. The apple cider was pretty much like eating day-old bread and I did not like it at all. The buttermilk was much better, lighter and fluffier. Both were lacking flavor though and didn't really taste much like apple cider nor chocolate and tea. They were exp
I had a really wonderful experience today here with out of this world amazing customer service . Bella and Teal really went above and beyond for my partner , the dogs and me. I can?t emphasize how much quality customer service means to me these days , and these two really stood out in that way . The donuts were really good as well !
Coming into it, I was concerned about Blue Star living up to its hype as one of the best donut shops in the country. I needn't have worried. We tried a lot of the flavors and all were great, but my favorite was the Blueberry Bourbon Basil...such an odd yet perfect combination of sweet and savory. My mom and I check out donut places whenever we travel to a new city, and this is either our second or third favorite in the country. Also, Voodoo is decent but it's absolutely no competition for Blue Star. Come he
Very eclectic mix of flavors for their donuts. They were jam packed the day we went but they were very good about getting through the line quickly. The donuts are a little spendy so be prepared to drop a little more than your normal donut shop. However you get what you pay for as the donuts are high quality.
