Beacon Donuts ? A Hidden Gem for Vegan Treat Lovers Tucked away in a cozy alley in Chicago, Beacon Donuts is one of those rare finds that truly lives up to the hype. This fully vegan donut shop doesn?t just cater to plant-based eaters?it wows everyone, regardless of dietary preferences. The variety is impressive: from classic glazed to unique flavors like blueberry pancake, raspberry pistachio, and cinnamon roll, there?s something for every kind of sweet tooth. The donuts are soft, fluffy, and never greas
Best cake donuts! As a self proclaimed donut officiando, these are my favorite cake style donuts. They literally are like little cakes with each bite delivering moist cake. Depending on what you order, the inside fillings are either in the middle or within the cake itself. Super billowy in texture and mad flavorful. Bites of heaven. The crunch on the iced donuts are perfectly satifying. I never order just one, it's gotta be a mix and let me tell you, Beacon is always consistent! Worth the line, don't hesita
Cool alley entrance. I can see why it would suck in the summer because it is an alley, but the walk up window was super noticeable and the person at the window was super friendly. I got the strawberry shortcake and some donut holes. Super great flavors and reasonable prices. I much prefer cake over yeast donuts and this hit the spot. Great strawberry flavor, if a little sweet. Will definitely be back, maybe tomorrow.
This is a scrumptious donut takeaway place tucked in the alley. Lots of unique flavors and regular flavor of donuts, and the presentation of each of them are beautiful. I can't say if all of them are worth the hype given they're $5 a piece, but the extra splurge for the vanilla cronut seems like it could be worth it to some. Order online to skip the line, enjoy! This is a stand, so there is no place to eat; prep with the weather to stand in line.
Such a cute spot. The mural alone is worth checking this place out. Lovely customer service. And the donuts were amazing and HUGE. We tired the glaze, chocolate, vanilla bean cronut, the apple fritter and cinnamon coffee cake donuts. All were delightful! Traditional glaze and the cinnamon coffee cake were our personal favorites
This donut shop has a very cool location in an alley off Halsted & Armitage in the LP neighborhood. There is no seating available but this place is worth the visit!! Ordered the apple fritter, oreo old-fashioned and their boston cream. All these donuts was excellent and glazed/dressed to please the eye. I do have to rave about their boston cream that is uniquely made with a donut hole. At first, i did not realize that was the boston cream, but its probably the best I have ever had!! The cream is pumpe
What a fantastic find! A small little hole in the way donut shop literally in an alley. Was a bit skeptical at first but these donuts are FANTASTIC. My favorite was the vanilla bean cronut, I could have eaten 6 of them. We also got the blueberry donut (close second), Boston cream (usually my favorite but this one was mid), and a chocolate Oreo one or something. Highly recommend anyone and everyone stops here and try the donuts.
Cool location in an alley. I looked up best non chain donuts in Chicago and this came up and I gave it a try this morning. Yeah these are great. Definitely on the pricier side but they are great! The donut that is also a croissant was my favorite!
These are the absolute best vegan doughnuts in the city bar none. We tested an entire dozen and were thoroughly impressed with all, but especially the brioche doughnuts, cronut, blueberry pancake, and oreo old fashioned. The low point was the birthday cake doughnut, and even that was much better than other vegan doughnuts (cough cough Stan?s). Omnivore and vegan approved!
My mouth is watering writing this - these are probably the best donuts I?ve ever had. Their seasonal cocoa nibs and sprinkles donut was soooo amazing! I will be having dreams of this donut and will be running back to Beacon to get another very very soon! Phone did NOT eat first.
I can't say enough about this place. This is a "5 hour" donut shop. In other words, if you're within 5 hours of this place, it's worth the trip. Trust me, I wouldn't let you down. Get the chocolate cake donut. You DO NOT want to miss out on that one!
These are the best donuts in the city. Trust me, I?ve had them all during pregnancy?.They?re dense and light at the same time. Not too sugary. Their donut holes are just as good if you have no self control like me
Go get donuts here. Window is in the alley. A must if you want some top tier donuts in your life. I will be going here every time I am back in town. Short wait and friendly service. The glazed donut was one of the best I?ve ever had.
This is a must go to place for a great breakfast or snack. I got a simple vanilla cronut and am really surprised by the delicate flavor and soft and not overwhelming texture.
I like that you can pre-order and pick it up quickly. We tried six different donuts. Our top three were the raised glazed brioche, the vanilla bean cronut, and the blueberry pancake donut. The cherry cheese danish was also good.
I had the cherry cheese danish this weekend and it was so delicious! The jelly and vegan danish cheese filling were fantastic. I would 100% go out of my way to get this donut again.
I?ve never had a donut I didn?t love from Beacon, but the cherry danish I got today actually took me aback - so delicious, amazing texture. The people are always friendly, and the line seems to move quickly, even when they?re slammed.
Location is unique in a good way. Doughnuts are some of the best in the city. Try the vanilla bean cronut and the blueberry pancake. You can't go wrong with any of them though honestly.
A mainstay in Lincoln Park - great for takeaway on any morning. The Donut Dinosaur and Coffee Crocodile got two great donuts and took them to La Colombe around the corner.
I had a 20 year career as a hospitality executive, and developed milk & egg allergies about 12 years ago. My wife, who was already an amazing baker, has been honing her vegan baking skills since that time. I share all of this to be able to say, unequivocally, that we have never had vegan donuts that can match the truly exceptional quality, flavor, texture and variety of Beacon's doughnuts. We were in Chicago for three days, we had them every day. Every doughnut we had was tremendously delicious and sometim
Donuts in the alley? Yes please! These donuts were amazing! I had the Chocolate Glazed and it was so moist and fresh and the icing was delicious. My fianc? had the Birthday Cake donut and she really enjoyed that as well. Love the artwork and the server was wonderful. Very friendly and helpful! We will definitely be back to try more flavors! ??
Epic place in Chicago for doughnuts! Tell your friends, meet up and get 6 different doughnuts with funky flavors! Favorites: Raised glazed & vanilla bean cronut
Beacon Doughnuts is amazing! Such high quality and delicious donuts! I like how unique some are, but even the classics like the chocolate glaze are so good. It's wonderful having a fully vegan dessert spot and you wouldn't even be able to tell these are vegan. Also the staff are very friendly. Overall a great place and great experience:)
The glazed and coffee cake donut were good but the Boston cream was gross. I would recommend but skip the Boston cream
I see where raised glazed got its name from - it is the thickest glazed donut I?ve ever had! It was really tasty, but the donut was not warm so it didn?t have that wow first impression like a Krispy Kreme donut leaves you with. If it was, it would?ve easily been a 5/5. This place is in a back alley and has a beautiful mural as well. Cool vibe.
I absolutely loved this place! I'd have to say it served the best donuts I've had in quite some time. I tried all 12 flavors with my friends, and each one was a delightful treat. My personal top picks were the Oreo old fashioned, the apple cider crumble, and there was this one that looked and tasted just like tiramisu (I wish I could remember the name). I'm definitely planning on revisiting this place. Also located in a lively neighborhood perfect for a stroll in weekend morning.
Oh my word these are some of the best donuts I have ever had. I wouldn't have ever guessed they were vegan! Salted Carmel biscoff was easily my favorite but all the ones we tried were amazing! I wish I could have tried more!
By far the best doughnut in Chicago. Each one is better than the last. Staff is delightful and it?s so fun to take an adventure down an alley to end up at this gem. Not our first time and for sure not our last!
Beacon is the definition of a hidden gem! With such friendly service and delectable ALL VEGAN!! offerings, I can confidently say that it's worth checking out. The menu is as artisan as it is creative, and the kitschy deck is a nice place to enjoy your treat (weather permitting!).
Vegan donuts that taste amazing! We enjoyed the vanilla bean cronut, apple fritter, raised glazed, and blueberry pancake. I?m not vegan, but my wife is so we each come with a different perspective. Real fruit and jam fillings, I enjoyed these donuts as well as any I have eaten that are non-vegan. I try to post vegan options that are good because it?s such a victory when we find them. We found one today! My wife loved them over the others we have found in Chicago. The walk up alleyway ordering is fun and an
Yeast, cake, cronuts, all the options. I feel like I can never find a good yeast donut in this cake obsessed donut culture! But I found a few. I got the glazed, it was perfectly soft, squishy, and so sugary. I fell in love with my first bite. It had some salty tangs in there as well. My son got the birthday cake donut, it was pretty, completely covered in tasty sprinkles. My husband got a coffee cake donut. He said it had a good salt ratio and it was decadent, and with coffee it was a perfect pairing. Th
I discovered Beacon Donuts through Anticonquista Cafe in Pilsen, and their vegan Boston cream is hands down the best I've ever had. It's so thoughtfully crafted that you completely forget it's vegan. Definitely my favorite find of the year so far.
Delicious donuts and strong coffee. I tried the Boston cream and my wife had the cheesecake. Enter in the alley on Armitage.
Oh my goodness! You think you know a good donut shop, well here?s your new favorite donut. The flavors! The friendly staff and the taste will win you over. Pro tip, order ahead. The night before pick your donuts on the site and in the morning your donuts will be in a perfect box waiting on you! They are rich and so worth the visit.
Definitely recommend this small gourmet donut spot in an alley. I enjoy the unique options and how it?s not overly sweet. The blueberry pancake one I ordered had a scone-like texture (more crumbly cake rather than fluffy donut) and is generously filled with house-made blueberry sauce. There?s no seating so you gotta figure that out for yourself but also it?s just donut!
Donuts are like the old fashioned mom and pop shops So they?re a little doughier but I love it!! Could use a tiny bit less icing and glaze at times !
I love Beacon Doughnuts so much and it's always tempting to make a stop there. I tried their seasonal flavors this time around - pumpkin brioche knot and pumpkin crumb cake. While I do prefer yeast donuts, the cake donut was extremely moist and nailed the pumpkin, fall flavors. Both were delicious though!
The Vanilla Bean Cronut was life changing. But seriously all of the donuts were absolutely amazing. I wish I could give 6 stars!
Delicious offerings, I had the birthday cake and an Apple fritter but wanted to try the Oreo Old Fashioned and the BlueBerry Pancake. I arrived just before a long line formed but they served people fast. Overall very tasty donuts and the alley location was unique and creatively designed. Glad to change this from a ?want to go? to an ?I?ll be back?
These are hands down the best donuts I've ever had, without even regarding that they're vegan. The Boston creme donut is AMAZING, and the glazed is way better than Krispy Kreme or any of those. Soo recommended!
Exciting to find excellent quality vegan doughnuts! My husband?s fav were beignet and blackberry. I found the beignet a little dry but loved the blackberry and the blueberry pancake. The tiramisu was excellent but too sweet for us. The Swedish knot was too sweet for my husband, but I liked it.
Beacon is a strong contender for the best doughnut shop in Chicago, and has singlehandedly changed my mind about how good a cake doughnut can be (as someone who was previously a diehard proponent of yeasted >> cake) Their filled cake doughnuts are their ?signatures?: the blueberry pancake and boston cream are both knockouts, with the latter being particularly exceptional (even setting aside how impressive it is to make that delicious a custard while being vegan). Their unfilled, more traditional cake doug
This was a super fun find in Chicago. We didn?t know what to expect when we walked down the alley but the cool mural painting and friendly customer service set us at ease. We tried several donuts and they were excellent!
I love donuts, but I'm not a huge fan of cake donuts, so I wasn't sure how much I'd like these. They do have a few other options, but they're mostly cake donuts. My cousin, her fiancee, my husband, and I shared: - Cinnamon Coffee Cake - Birthday Cake Sprinkle - Blueberry Pancake - Apple Cider - Vanilla Bean Cronut - Blackberry Beignet These are probably the best cake donuts I've ever had. The Blueberry Pancake was my favorite. It's not common to have a cake ring donut that's filled and this was incredible
Blueberry pancake donut is a tasty bite, but gets a bit too sweet as it's full of the blueberry jam which I didn't expect
Had this place in my list for a long time, finally made it and it was well worth it. It was close to closing so they only had 3 options left. I told my friend that I knew they'd be good because the bag was heavy for only 3 doughnuts. This place is so cute! I'll be back for sure!
Today was my second time ordering pickup from Beacon donuts, because last time my mother and I ate them all in a day and have been dreaming of them since. Having been relegated to dry boring cake donuts (or good cake, masquerading as donuts) since going vegan, I wasn't even sure yeast raised, glazed ones existed in Chicagoland. Then by some miracle I found Beacon, and pre-ordered a dozen to pick up two weeks ago. They had so many options, all of them delicious. As a former Lincoln Park resident, who did not
I got the vanilla cronut, oreo something and original glazed. None of them were very good, to be honest. The oreo one had a gross after taste. The cronut was also off texture and tastewise. I have been here on other occasions when the donuts were better but they seem to not be consistent. They're also pretty pricey compared to other places.
The doughnuts were pretty good. If you're a doughnut lover, this may be a stop for you. Was harder to find because its down an alley and there's no signs for it. Its strictly takeout as well. The customer service was very good!
Thank you for the delicious donuts! And the staff was so kind and helped me select the best donut for my child! Very pleased!
Holy cow, these are good! Apple Fritters are amazing. Cherry Danish doughnuts are SO GOOD! I wish they were closer to downtown, but it was well worth the trip to get there.
By far the best donut I?ve had in Chicago. Ordered pistachio raspberry. Only regret is not ordering more!!!
Best donuts I have ever had, hands down. The brioche is to die for. I?m not vegan but real recognizes real, they are better than any non vegan donut that I have ever had
Good doughnuts but not cheap! Very tasty cake donuts with some interesting flavors. Found in an alley the shop has great energy and is super fun to order from. If you don?t mind spending $4 for a doughnut definitely give this place a try.
Holy apple fritter. Doesn't taste vegan at all. I devoured it. I have tried many vegan donuts from many spots and cities, and the apple fritter is by far my favorite vegan donut of all time. The plain raised glazed and the cinnamon bun are also spectacular. I found that the more complex flavors overpowered the donut itself. Still good, but not as good as the more plain flavors. pre-order on their website to skip the long line! Cannot recommend this place highly enough ??
Delicious all vegan donut shop! I read mixed reviews on gluten free donuts and the person I spoke to made it clear they do not do gluten free donuts. I had a cherry cheese danish that was out of this world!!
Phenomenal tasting donuts! There wasn't a huge variety when I got there - about four or five different donuts. I ordered three of them: lavender vanilla, cookies and cream, and s'mores. All of them were amazing!! The only thing I wish is that they served brewed coffee - they do provide americanos - but the cups are a little small. Definitely would come back for the donuts. :)
This donuts are awesome. So fresh and tasty the only thing is find parking over here that will take out 3 stars other than that this place is the bomb! Come and get some out of this world donuts
Beacon Doughnuts have the best vegan donuts in my opinion. I have been buying donuts from this place for a few years now. I love the owner and family members involved in the business. They are some of the kindest people I know and sell delicious, pretty, and fun flavored donuts. Their new spot is on Armitage and Halsted; a cute donut window in an alley (810 W. Armitage)??. They are open on Thursday-Sunday from 7:15am-2pm for pre-order hours and 9-2pm for walk-up hours. You can also find them at the Wicker P
I saw this place on Instagram so I drove for almost an hour to try Beacon donuts using my Waze app. When Waze said to pull into the alley I thought that I was going the wrong way, then I saw that it was actually in an alley. The guy at the window wasn?t very pleasant. He asked if that was my car and said that it was. He said in a not polite manner that I need to park on a street. I didn?t see a sign when I drove up as I was following what my navigation said. I asked him if my 10:30 order was ready and he in
I drove all the way to Beacon Donuts from out of town, specifically to try their cronuts. I even called ahead to preorder, only to be told when I got there?at noon?that they were already out and weren?t going to be making any more for the day. They don?t close until 2 PM, but apparently they just make a set amount of donuts and that?s it. No flexibility, no real effort to accommodate customers, and no apology or attempt to make it right. It?s incredibly frustrating, especially since I don?t live in Chicago
Best Vegan donuts in Chicago. They rotate their flavors pretty often, according to season and sometimes just randomly, so there's always new flavors to discover. A bit expensive (but what isn't in Lincoln Park ??), but worth it. Also their spot in the alley is absolutely stunning little place. Very nice people too.
Super friendly staff and out of this world doughnuts. Order ahead though.
Delicious donuts! Probably the best I ever had, pricey but well worth it. Hip looking place ,located in the Alley..
Great donut variety. Loved the Oreo and vanilla sprinkle donuts. Would recommend this place.
This is my absolute favorite donut spot in Chicago. The flavors are incredible, staff is awesome, and a bonus is that everything is Vegan! I think it?s super fun that it?s hidden in an alley - a literal hidden gem. My favorite donut they make is the Double Chocolate + Sea Salt? it is decadent and INCREDIBLE. Otherwise I love trying their temporary/seasonal flavors - this place really knows how to put a fun twist on donuts!
Love this place!! There are many options to choose from and they are all vegan! There is a mix between the cake style and yeast raised so something for everyone. My personal favorite are the peppermint and carrot cake which are both seasonal and then the Boston cream which they have all of the time!
I go to Beacon 2-3 times a week to buy donuts for clients of mine. They are the best donuts you?ll ever have and not to mention it?s a family operated business with the friendliest people. You will not be disappointed. Try the vanilla cronut?.
I picked up 2 dozen mixed. Price 73.00 w tax. Im fine with that. The 2 dozen weighed a ton. Im ok with that. After eating them WOW. WAY TOO SWEET.! I wanted to love these donuts but no way.
Found out about this place on TikTok and had to go! They're in an alley off Armitage. There will be a line. All donuts are vegan although they are advertised as so except on their website. You would never know it! They're delicious. Later in the morning/afternoon they start to run out of popular kinda so we like to go before noon.
Ever since Beacon started to appear at the Wicker Park farmers market, I have found myself in line every Sunday. You can smell it before you see the tent, and the flavors are always stand out in comparison to anywhere I?ve ever been. My personal favorite is the chocolate glazed ? sometimes you just gotta stick to the classics, and when someone does it right you have to respect it. Now, it?s a sad day if we don?t have any donuts left in our weekly half dozen. These local donuts are a luxury you shouldn?t pa
Delicious! The blueberry pancake donut is quite possibly the best donut I?ve ever had. Also got the pumpkin cinnamon bun donut, which was nearly equally delicious. Heads up- the price of 4 donuts is basically the same as the price of a half dozen so you might as well get 6!
Had the raspberry grapefruit Bismarck ?? so refreshing and tasty. It?s sweet and a little tart but the powdered sugar on the outside definitely balances it. 10/10
Hands down the best donuts I?ve ever eaten! I got a chocolate glazed and a Boston cream. We will be back :)
Really good donuts. Like really good. Loads of flavor. Presentation is on point too. Service was wonderful. My only issue is that it's very pricey. A half a dozen of donuts that I bought set me back just over $19. So a dozen of donuts would be over $30 easily.
Stan who? Fire huh? Listen y'all need to head to Beacon. Decadent yet not too sweet - think getting multiple little cakes (the to go box was the bonus win for me, sturdy with no touching).
Nice selection of donuts, made fresh on-site. Enjoyed the birthday cake donut, the apple fritter and a cold brew. Update: the Vanilla Bean Cronut is the best in Chicago, hands down.
A really nice treat! Can?t imagine being able to afford this every weekend, but it?s great to see it be so popular at the Wicker Park farmers market! There is always a line albeit manageable for them, even as early as 9:30am on a Sunday. Even though I?m mostly a lemon lime citrus fan, my favorite was the Orange Rosemary Beignet because it had the perfect amount of flavor in each bite, and the dough was so fluffy and not too sweet. I would compare the Chocolate Brioche to the chocolate glazed Krispy Kreme d
The best quality/taste/and service from an alley that I NEVER KNEW I NEEDED! I?ve been plenty of times and I love the seasonal change up along with the regulars. This is definitely the sweet spot!??????
I got some of their donuts at Hero Bagels in Chicago and they are honestly some of the best donuts I've ever had, vegan or not! I would 100% make a trip here next time I'm in Chicago. They were delicious.
Definitely my favorite donuts in the city. The french toast donut is so good! The boston creme and chocolate glazed are also amazing.
Great little spot, friendly people, and good ownership. Picked up 2 dozen for my office and everyone loved them
Cute little hole in the wall place with amazing donuts! They were extremely fresh and moist and made me want to live in Chicago so I could stop by every week. While we were there we had the double chocolate and the coffee cake and they were just so good!! ?? I understand it's in the alley but I did wish there was somewhere to sit since we had taken the subway over to pick them up. The town surrounding was cute too.
WOW ?? The only word that came out of my mouth was WOW! These vegan donuts are AMAZING. First time here and I am definitely coming back. The only one I didn?t get to taste was the Boston Cream since they sold out of it ?? hopefully there will be other varieties in the future ??????
Having Beacon Doughnuts practically in my backyard is a blessing and a curse - The donuts are delicious, soft, moist, creative, and simply amazing. Order in advance directly from their website and avoid the hassle of waiting in line.
I ordered some doughnuts from here for a birthday surprise for some friends. The staff were really friendly and helpful, even offered to deliver the doughnuts for me (I live in the UK so it would have been a bit out of my way). Though I didn't get to try the doughnuts myself, I'm told that they were the best in Chicago, and possibly even the best they've ever had! When I eventually get to visit, I'll make sure to come and get some for myself! Thanks guys!
The unique location of this shop is what made me want to try them, but my coco-caramel shortbread doughnut wasn't anything special. None of the flavors stood out and it was just an average doughnut. Go for the experience, but don't expect to be wowed by the flavor.
I ordered these for a staff event. I was excited to be able to try them since I am dairy intolerant but regretted my decision as I walked in with the box realizing people may not like vegan. I didn?t say anything until everyone was ranting and raving about them! They couldn?t believe they were vegan, and told themselves they must be healthier so they could indulge more. Bravo!!! You have a classroom full of fans down the street that will be coming by more often. I had the pleasure trying a little bit from
