Go here! Coconut chocolate doughnut is amazing. The Old Fashioned donut was good. This place had a line and was worth it. They are heavy so make sure you save room. Everything is fresh. They have coffee too but was already had coffee somewhere else. Tell em Barsnobs sent ya
"Back Door" is where you have to go to get your donut from 7pm-12am. During the day (8 am-2 pm), you go to the front door. We were there before 7 pm, and a line started to form. They opened the back door and started taking orders. Apple Fritter ($8.43) is delicious and big enough for two. Cinnamon Roll ($6.36). Other donuts range between $2.50 & $4.00 and they're all hot & delicious. Friendly and welcoming staff.
Worst donuts I have ever eaten. The apple fritter was just ok better than the donuts. Coffee too was below average. Selling donuts from the backdoor is just a selling gimmick. Must say good strategy to sell very underrated donuts
Backyard Donuts is one of those places you can smell before you see! They?re constantly whipping up fresh batches, and the delicious aroma fills the whole street. It?s impossible to walk by without stopping in. We enjoyed a warm Boston cream donut that was absolutely perfect, along with fresh pastries, a flaky cheese danish, and some delicious lattes. They even offer a great selection of gluten-free options, which is a huge plus!
Love this place. Just voted best in Mass! Just gave 5 stars on the atmosphere, because how many parking lots behind buildings have hot amazing donuts? Best parking lot and back door ever. Highly recommend. Amazing donuts!
I have to preface by saying I'm not usually a donut person, so not the best judge in the products in this VERY popular store especially evening time. My understanding at the Back Door after 7pm there's always long queue sometimes even an hour wait. Even with QR code convenience I'm not sure it's worth it to wait that long. Anyway came here first thing in the morning just before they open, got the benefit of immediately putting in order of their famous bigger than palm size Apple Fritter $7.95. Maple bacon
Back Door Donuts is an absolute must if you?re on Martha?s Vineyard?there?s nothing like grabbing a fresh, warm donut late at night from a little back door in Oak Bluffs. The donuts live up to the hype, but what really made our experience unforgettable was the security guard, AJ. He wasn?t just keeping the crowd in order?he was welcoming, funny, and incredibly knowledgeable about the donut options. He helped us navigate the lineup, gave honest recommendations, and made everyone feel part of the fun. It?s cl
Apr 2024: The quality is very distinguishable compared to other donut joints. Price is fair and they got a cute selection of merchandise for sale. This place is popular so options run out quickly it?s also open late which is a plus if you?re on the island check it out.
Apple fritter was really good. The rest of the donuts were mid. Wouldn?t wait in line for them but if it?s empty like it was this early afternoon when we got there, it?s worth it to pop in. There?s a bunch of benches right outside you can sit at and enjoy the donuts in the sun.
Nice little store with a small section of donuts, fritters and coffee. The Apple fritters are worth the hype,it was huge and tasted heavenly. Also had Boston creme donut and it was good. Service was quick and the all the people working wore masks and gloves. Definitely stop here for the Apple fritters.
One Apple fritter, a half dozen glazed donuts and a custom chocolate cake with chocolate icing later and it never gets old. Amazing donuts, Apple fritter is the best in my opinion. The donuts are almost as good. As far as the cake goes. I personally think there wasn?t enough actual cake and too much icing. Birthday woman thought differently. You can decide from the picture? Will be back again. 10/10 would reccomend to a friend. Edit - back again this year, still amazing
Really great donuts. Honey dipped was soft and reminiscent of a Krispy Kreme. The raspberry jelly and Boston creme should not be missed.
Last summer I planned a 20 person trip to the Vineyard. Back Door put together boxed welcome gifts for each of the guests. Everyone loved the donuts. They also made us a birthday cake, which received rave reviews. It was so delicious, I didn't think about taking a photo until after we ate it. Highly recommend.
Back Door Donuts in Oak Bluffs is an absolute gem! ????? From the moment you step foot inside, the aroma of freshly baked donuts envelops you, setting the stage for a delightful experience. The variety of flavors is astounding, ranging from classic glazed to inventive creations like maple bacon and blueberry crumble. Each donut is a masterpiece of flavor and texture, with the perfect balance of sweetness and indulgence. Whether you're craving something traditional or feeling adventurous, Back Door Donuts
Simply the best. We have eating here decades but when they started to serve from back door it just gave it that extra something. The warm donuts are great (love their maple bacon) but the reason to come is the Apple Fritters.
One of my favorite island traditions is lining up for a donut from Back Door Donuts after dinner. The donuts are fabulous, they are still warm when you get them! The party donut is my personal favorite, but they have so many options to choose from, make sure to try a few! BDD is also open during the day with the same menu (use the front door on post office square). We love Back Door Donuts so much that we served them as dessert at our wedding! Our guests loved them, they were the perfect dance floor dessert
Wow! Best apple fritter I have ever had. My picture doesn't do it justice. It was probably a pound of fritter and took up the whole white lunch bag. My wife got a chocolate cake with chocolate on top, looked amazing but couldn't have compared to my apple fritter, We just saw a line and fell into it, so glad we did! Highly recommend giving it a chance and the best part is, they are open in the evenings too!
Such a cool spot and the donuts were great!
Such a good spot well worth the hype! Absolutely loved these donuts! ??
Some of the best donuts and Apple fritters I?ve ever had - anywhere! An MV staple for years. Donuts sold out of the back door at night is special (minus the lines) and part of our routine for many, many years during our summer vacations on the island. Get there early or plan on waiting. Donuts are fresh, ?melt in your mouth? delicious and highly recommended!!!
Get the true experience after 7pm by grabbing a SNACK donut from the BACK DOOR. Apple Fritter DELICIOUS!
Popular dessert spot. It's the thing you must do while on MV. All flavors of donuts and there will be one with your name on it. The cashiers are knowledgeable. I asked for the most popular, the weirdest and most mundane. Between those 3 variables I was able to pick a couple that met my need. Totally recommend as an evening snake after dinner. That's what my party did and we enjoyed it.
The apple fritter blew me away! While all other reviews gushed about its excellence, I never expected it to be THAT delicious. The fritter is really the only pastry you need to try here. I couldn?t control myself and also got the cinnamon roll, glazed donut and boston cream donut but was left undazzled. If I could go back, I would only get the apple fritter!
Visited around 9pm on a Wednesday in mid-August. Had to queue for about 20 minutes but I was in a group so it was easy enough to chat and pass the time. Kind of fun as an experience, would probably be a bit of a faff if you were by yourself and just wanted to get some donuts and go. The donuts we tried were all very tasty, decent value for money. Friendly enough service. Worth a visit.
Kaitlyn was phenomenal and super nice. She had great tips about the donuts. She also handled some rowdy rude obnoxiously guys and made us feel safe. I will definitely comeback!
This is a must stop if you end up in Oak Bluffs. I'm a donut lover, and this was the best apple fritter I've ever had. I can't speak to the other options taste. They all looked delicious, but I'm truly bummed I didn't get 2 fritters. They also have coffee and juices. There is no room to sit inside, just like up and then head out to the public area out front to enjoy your treats on some park benches. The late donut thing also sounds fun, but we didn't get to experience that.
Had a great time in Marthas Vineyard and it included making a pit stop at Backdoor Donuts. This place is great and makes delicious donuts/pastries
Absolutely delicious! Tried the maple bacon and apple fritter, both amazing fritter was so light! Small que but wait as they are worth it!
We grabbed the late night donuts from the back door at around 10pm (all of the donuts were delicious) and found that luckily we had no line to wait in (it was raining so that helped). Must-stop if you are in the area. Their Merch is also on point.
This place took me back to my childhood days when you could buy the hostess donuts from the grocery store and they actually tasted like real donuts! We would put them in the toaster oven and eat them hot??. Back door donuts has the best donuts ever. The buttermilk glazed cake and the raised honey dipped glazed were my favorites. My nieces loved the raised chocolate frosting donut. There was a line both nights (Friday and Saturday) that we went. Took us about 15 minutes to get through the line and anoth
Amazing warm donuts, going during the night is a must. Got a variety of them and the apple fritter has to be my favorite. Lines are long so try and get there early.
Apple Fritter is delicious. Big enough to split 3 ways.
It's a tourist trap novelty shop that seems to care less about service because they seem to not care about having repeat customers. The pastries and donuts are good, but the service is terrible and slow. Even after speaking with the manager on duty about her staff destroying my order yesterday by jamming a bunch of boston creme donuts in a little bag causing them to burst everywhere. No apology or refund. For my order today, this is what they did to resolve my concern: put boston creme donuts in an individ
Donuts were very enjoyable and were very pleased with what I ordered. On the other hand though, the costumer service was awful. We ordered our donuts online and when we arrived all the donuts were right except for one. They gave us two apple fritters instead of a party and one apple fritter. When we politely told them the situation they insisted we show our receipt. The order was correct on our side but came across wrong on their side. Instead of doing the right thing and giving us the donut we had original
Great place to get some delicious pastries and lattes!!! Their apple fritters absolute best ?? highly recommended!
This is right in oak bluffs. If you go there and you like apple fritters you should get one cuz they are absolutely the best I've ever had with lots of apples. lots of other stuff even cakes and cupcakes and donuts of course ??. And they are very friendly people unfortunately sometimes you might have a line but it's worth the wait I promise.
Yummy food and they make you feel comfortable about the times. I recommend the apple fritter and glazed. They have many more options and are great at keeping people physically distanced. Well done back door keep it up
Back Door Donuts is a must when visiting Martha?s Vineyard. It is worth the wait in line for the Apple Fritter. One of the best I have ever had.
DON'T order online after hours. It's quicker to wait in line. A friend and I both got to the line at the same time. I ordered online and he went to wait in line ( 8pm Saturday on Labor Day weekend ). It took him 6 min to wait in line, 10 people deep. My online order said 15 min. Ok. For sure mine took exactly 15 min. Please note there were no online orders ahead of me. -2 stars for junk service.
Pretty good, basically the only donut shop on the island. Very busy, hard to see anything till your at the front and they arr asking what you want. Prices are a bit high for a return trip but they were better than dunkin not as good as some of the Boston doughnut places like black bird etc.
The apple fritters were right out of the oven when I ordered one. There?s nothing quite as perfect as an apple fritter on the vineyard during summer.
I was very disappointed in the service. I walked in with my two teen kids to get 2 decaf iced coffee and one normal iced coffee as well as 2 donuts. The woman taking the order got our order worked and we had to corrected her. In addition to this the worker tipped herself without me telling her to do so and without my consent then about 5 minutes after my coffee came out and i was fixing it the woman who took my order called me over to say she forgot to ring something up and she charged it and tipped hersel
Sorry everyone, this review is not about the donuts or fritters, which I must say are delicious. I wish to give a special note of appreciation to the General Manager, Tyler Heineman. On my only visit to the Vineyard, I had to partake in the whole Back Door experience--- hot fritters at 7 pm, wow to die for. I purchased a Back Door cap, which quickly became my favorite. I lost it. I promptly ordered a white one and black one. Unfortunately, there was a mishap in my order and if not for the persisten
???????????????? I love some donuts. These are by far the best i have ever have.
1 complaint= no decaf espresso. HOWEVER, the Apple fritter was worth every penny and calorie. Huge chunks of apple, just the right amount of glaze and tender, flavorful fried love dough. So incredibly good that I?m wondering if I can scoot myself back there again, today. I?ll grab a fancy coffee somewhere else. The donut was worth the special trip!
A fresh hot two handed apple fritter. Definitely worth the time even gluten free items available too
Came here today around 3pm today to get some donuts for my family. The 2 poor excuses for employees were EXTREMELY disrespectful to the customers. I was appalled at their behaviour as they mocked, snarled at, and rolled their eyes at customers for asking simple questions. The two girls working here demonstrated the WORST hospitality I?ve ever experienced on this island and should NOT be working with the general public because evidently they hate everyone as well as their job. Donuts were fine.
I was rather disappointed by my double chocolate donut, threw it away after only one bite. It was very (!) sweet and there was no chocolate taste to it. The apple fritter was ok, not outstanding though.
Another wonderful experience! An annual tradition. The line moved quickly and efficiently with appropriate social distancing!
The best donuts on EARTH! Well at least on the east coast. Nothing like warm freshly made donuts! And these are the bomb. Try the glazed buttermilk and savor in an almost creamy and dreamy donut. The new online ordering that you pick-up out front is super easy and if you do it before you leave, the donuts will be waiting for you. Don?t be afraid to ring the bell!
I got an apple fritter here and it was so yummy and super big (worth the price, honestly feels best to share between two people.) If you get there a little bit early the wait is virtually nothing. I hope to go again! Also Mia is the best security guard ever !!!!!!!
The Maple bacon donuts got smaller and the priced high. It was better back in 2015.
I love everything on their menu. The most fun is waiting in line. When you travel to Martha's Vineyard, this must be on your to do list for one of your evenings. Plus, they have a super cute sweatshirt. Next year I will purchase it.
I love this place the apple fritter is mmmmmmmmmhhh
Obsessed with this place. Fond memories of stopping by here after finishing an evening night shift at a restaurant around the corner for a treat with friends. It was fun to meet new people, both locals, seasonal workers, and visitors in line for this shared experience. All the classics are available, but their Apple fritter and maple bacon stand out. They even have gluten free options! If you haven?t tried it yet, this is a must visit while in OB
All 5 stars ?? ????????
ALMOST the best donuts I've ever had. I've had better but only at 1 or 2 other places ever. The only downside is the donuts weren't nice and hot because they probably have to make a lot ahead of time to feed the crowds. That being said, they are still delicious! The apple fritter is amazing. They are voted as having the best apple fritter and I believe it. It's monstrous and it came out warm and had real pieces of spiced apple all throughout it. I highly recommend coming here. They usually open at 7pm for d
really fantastic place. No seating, just grab and go. The people there are really nice and all the donuts and sweets are really inexpensive, and really really great quality. I would highly recommend the apple fritter, the honey donut and the maple bacon. there is usually a line but it moves really fast even though they make your order only once you order it. But I would definitely stand in line at this place again. thanks backdoor!
This place was the best find on the island! We visited late September on a weekday morning for our first visit. There was absolutely no wait and we left with a box full of delicious donuts! While we were making the purchase, the employee told us to come back at night for hot and fresh donuts at their back door later on. We came back at 7pm, only waited behind 3-4 other customers, and bought an amazing apple fritter. (Those are giant, so we shared one between my husband and I.) This will be a permanent stop
Super disappointed. I had raved about the apple fritters after having one several years ago and so the over an hour long wait in a long line that did move swiftly on my return trip to MV was full of anticipation. I bought 2 and a few diff donuts to try. The fritter barely had apples. Tiny pieces randomly throughout at $7.50 each was not worth the rave nor the $2.60 priced donuts. Perhaps with the volume they were turning out it may have affected quality
Donuts are really Good, line was really long - and that was in the off season :) I did not care for fried dough - they are more like fried sticks and you have to eat them super fast or they get crunchy and don't taste good. I've heard good things about the Apple fritter, but there was a 20 minute wait so didn't try it. The maple bacon donut, not what I was expecting - it was so much more!
While coming for the donuts in the Back at night is great if you want coffee back door donuts is not the place to come. They have one employee A-line out the door meanwhile the owner is standing there. Watching the one employee suffer and when I ask him. Hey is this your place he just laughs. I will not be supporting somebody who treats their employees like that.
The back Door Bakery is just that! You line up at the back door of the bakery in the evening for delicious hot freshly baked items. My friends got the hot apple ???? fritters which were absolutely huge, they were practically the size of an 9in plate, myself having a slightly different taste palate got to hot and Gooey delicious cinnamon roll. I have never seen a cinnamon roll so big and baked to perfection!!! I could only eat one third of it before I was stuffed, and let me say our scoops of vanilla bean i
Awesome donuts and apple fritter. Iced latte was good too.
Fresh delicious donuts, long line that moves quickly. Boston cream yeasted and apple cider cake donuts are delightful!
Everyone knows this place. Always busy. Iced caramel coffee is great. But the Apple Fritter is hands down the best thing there. Doughnuts are great, don?t get me wrong, but the Apple Fritter is where its at. It super cheap ($5.50) and it easily feeds three people. This place definitely lives up to the hype.
I suggested 10 stars in my initial review of the apple fritters but now changing to 1 star for the company soliciting orders for fritters with promised delivery by Christmas. The product arrived after Christmas and the fritters were individually wrapped in saran wrap with no ice to keep them fresh. No one answers the phone, the company voice mailbox is full, and no one responds to e-mail. Its clear the company overpromised on their offer but don't want to own up to their mistake. Very disappointed.
We were staying across the street from back door donuts, at night there was always a long line behind the building, we could not figure what was happening. We meet a very nice family that explained you go to the back and they take your order and you wait for your donuts. Absolutely worth the wait, which went fast, the donuts are delicious. Try the apple fritter. In the morning the line is long in the front of the bakery. Enjoy, you have to do it!!
The bear claw apple fritter is to die for!! So fresh and delicious. I also loved their homemade lemonade. Incredibly fresh and refreshing, and for all of their drinks they keep the simple syrup separate so you can sweeten it to your own liking (or keep it unsweetened if you wish)! Great outdoor seating out front as well. Really pretty area!
Apple fritters are the best! Lines are long, but worth the wait.
Apple Fritter & a Rainbow Sprinkle donut. Fabulous
We went for our first time on June 1 and arrived at 745pm...only 45 minutes after they opened. The line was only 3 people deep and they did not have any apple fritters or double chocolate donuts. Those are the two that the server said were the best. We got a cinnamon roll, honey dipped and a jelly donut. None of them were warm and in fact tasted like they were left over from the previous day. Maybe the "season" had not started yet, but it was not worth the 5 minutes we waited in line and the price we paid.
Hands down some of the best donuts and pastries I?ve ever indulged in. The apple fritter was fried to perfection while the cinnamon roll was warm and fluffy. The line was long but moved quickly. 10/10 - highly recommend.
We had all our wedding desserts from here including brownies for our rehearsal dinner, our strawberry shortcake wedding cake and our wedding favor red velvet and vanilla with chocolate frosting cupcakes. Everything was so delicious and our guests were raving about everything! They were great to work with and accommodating!
Such a treat! Who can beat a sweet treat after dark on a cool evening! Or any evening!
The donuts we did have were awesome - you might wonder why the apple fritter is so expensive - it is ENORMOUS, like the size of my head! And delicious! The only downside - we ordered ~6 donuts and then 5 minutes later, we were told they had no chocolate and no filled donuts. I asked them for a refund as to be honest, we had enough. They said they processed it but never came back on our card...the 'not available today' issue seems to be a recurring problem. We were there like 15 minutes after they opened...
Apple fritters are amazing, finish off with a cinamonsugar and glazed donuts for good measure. Highly recommended.
Great bakery and very convenient. This place holds a lot of nostalgia and memories for me. Both the bakery and Back Door are special; the pastries are so good and are incomparable to any bakery I've been to. Whether it's a cake, cupcake, donut, muffin, or cookie, Back Door continues to amaze me and warms my soul with such comforting food at a reasonable price and a very soothing atmosphere. A trip to the Vineyard isn't complete without a stop at the island's best bakery.
Amazing bakery to go! Back Door Donuts has been one of the most popular attractions on Martha's Vineyard for years. They have many options and a large variety of baked goods. I'm aware that they've changed ownership somewhat recently. Since it's been more expensive and the portions (specifically the donuts) have gotten smaller. Also, if you are planning on going here, make sure you arrive early in the morning. By midday, they are sold out and don't have many options to fix your craving. However, the items a
I loved this little hole in the wall shop. My partner and I walked up and down the strip early in the morning, and this little cafe was PACKED. For good reason though. I ordered a coffee, he ordered a lemonade tea, and the both of us had a few pastries and some sweet treats. The coffee was fantastic. Fresh brewed, not watered down, and the lemonade tea was amazing. The pastries we had were wonderful. Very rich flavor without all of the fatty additives you'd get elsewhere. The sweet treats were delicious, an
Awesome little secret, you wait in line for the best hot yummy donuts. The line moves quickly and the donuts are hot! My favorite is the maple bacon, not just for breakfast, any time of day is great! They open at 7pm till 1am, make sure you get enough for breakfast the next day. This place is a must to visit when you come to Martha's Vineyard / Oak Bluffs !
Highly recommend the maple bacon and the apple fritter. There was a bit of a line but it moved quickly. Had to wait about ten minutes for the apple fritter (worth the wait) but the other donuts came out fresh right away. Everything was delicious!!
During season this place always has a line. The prices are a little high but it's on Martha's Vineyard so everyone's willing to pay them. If you don't want to go there late at night you can still get their awesome Donuts during the day. My friends all like the apple fritter but I'm allergic to apples. They have so many other things I love to eat. It is a must stop place when you're there for visit on the island. Back door Donuts is great too!
Recently renovated, and it looks great inside. This Oak Bluffs classic is the bakery of choice for all your sweet treat and donut needs. If you want to avoid the crowds - and gets VERY crowded - go early, early, early in the morning. You won't be disappointed!
Okay everyone mentioned how great the fritters are, then we tried one and realized it was just as good as the hype. Beware that the fritters are large so you'll need an appetite. There's a lot of other tasty treats but this one is a must.
Donuts are awesome. Apple Fritters are out of this world. Where else can you get donuts at 1AM after the bars let out?? I took away one star because of the Sunday morning wait...the line wasn't even that long, but only one person was working and it took over 45 minutes to get thru the 12 people ahead of me. I saw multiple people behind me leave after seeing how slowly it was moving.
There will most likely be a line when you go to this place. We waited for quite awhile but we're not disappointed in our pastries. I got an apple fritter that was so fresh it was still warm. Still dreaming of that! Also had a coffee latte from on tap that was interesting to try!
So I am not a big donuts eater but... These are the best donuts I have had. The line is always long, so you have to get there early. And they are the best warm. On the weekends(in the summer), forget it! The line is a out of this world. Especially after the bars close. But it is so worth the wait!
