One morning before my meetings in DC. I got a chance to walk around the city. One of the places I had saved my phone to try was Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken. The doughnuts were decadent but still delicious. While there, I tried the PB & J donut along with a seasonal pumpkin pie. Both were really good, but the PB & J doughnut alone was worth the trip. I also got an order of chicken tenders. The tinders were crunchy and flavorful. This was definitely a place.I would take my family back to.
This is a funky nice place with a big bar. They have ample seating, the staff was nice however their system was confusing they handed us one of those beeper things to wait on your food and when it beeps you get up and get it. Then they ended up just serving us the food anyway which was odd and we had to order at the bar instead of them asking what we wanted. The chicken was really juicy and their donuts are delicious. We didn?t really have to wait that long for our food to be ready. Good place.
Liked this like donut shop. They had a great variety of unique and artisan donuts (nuveau). You will find something ecclectic that will pluck your donut heart (stomach ??) string. Love the new trend in the last 10 years of artisan donuts that has been building up throughout US. We did this via the Underground Donut Tour Washington DC. A great option to see some of the great donuts and bakery shops in DCs
Got several donuts from here and they were all ok. The flavor was lacking for me and the donut was very bready - not my liking. I got the following: - Cr?me Br?l?e - Glazed - Chocolate Birthday Cake - Vanilla Birthday Cake - Strawberry Shortcake
This little shop is just big enough to have a 3 person line in the shop. We got the honey fried chicken sandwich on a biscuit and the cherry blossom donut. The chicken was juicy it was also small and disappeared quickly. The biscuit was even better, soft fluffy and with butter moist. The cherry blossom was ok but the cherry jelly that is on the inside was a bit much, it was too sweet.
Nice place. O.G.E. Chicken sandwich was okay. Chick fil a is probably better tbh. Donuts were tasty. Wouldn?t be worth $5 each without the filling. Donuts were worth trying.
These are the best donuts I have ever eaten. Visited the other store last year and found this one on a visit to D.C yesterday, and I highly recommend it. Didn't know it was a sit-down place. I will try that on my next visit. Entire family enjoyed all the different kinds that were available
So so good! Recently a friend and I took a trip to DC and wanted to look for a place to get good food with a sweet treat and this place is stellar! The donuts although I wasn?t able to try the cr?me br?l?e or the vanilla glazes I had the maple bacon donut and it was so so so so good! The dough was so soft and sweet and the flavors really paired well together. The spicy friend chicken sandwich I had also was absolutely amazing I?m not even a fan of jalape?os but the meal was so good! Will totally be back at
Tried this place in the morning for donuts. Ordered 4 or 5 to taste and the best was a last minute add, the Cherry Blossom. Not my typical donut style but it had delicious flavor and balance. The chocolate cake and vanilla glazed were underwhelming and I think getting the basics right is important. The cr?me br?l?e was a good pick.
i came across Astro walking to Macys and i promised myself to stop back by after i was done shopping. Astro doughnuts is a petite takeout storefront with bistro tables set up outside perfect for a snack solo or with a couple friends i purchased 4 donut flavors, creme br?l?e, root beer float, glazed, and a glazed cake donut. So delicious and totally will satisfy the sweet tooth. these donuts are heavy and many had a cream, curd, or compote filling . Creative flavors make it hard to choose! I did return the
This place is so yummy omg. I ordered a vanilla glazed donut. It was so thick and fluffy. I will definitely be returning to try some of the other items on the menu. I give this place a 10/10!!!
Simple donut shop with a lot of varieties going on. Assorted flavors that kids most likely will love more than adults but they are all fun to try. I tried a piece of every donut in my box and they were all enjoyed. Quick and professional service.
Was walking downtown in Washington, DC today and this cute store caught my eye. Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken! Say what, who would imagine, sweets and chicken. Trust me, you?ll fall head over heels in love from the first bite. The staff was friendly, professional and helpful. Being a first timer I was guided over several selections. All were yummy looking, and I wasn?t feeling too adventurous so I choose some safe options. Next time, I?m going ALL in on everything. If you happen to be in the neigh
Interesting selection of pastries available in DC. The dough was nice, light, and fluffy. The fillings were truly delicious. The tart cherry and peanut butter and jelly were incredible. I'd highly recommend stopping by for a quick doughnut or chicken sandwich.
Ok, first thing first, this is not the cheapest place to get donuts in the DC area, but you?re probably not looking for the cheapest option! Cost aside, the food was amazing! I went here a couple times during my recent trip to DC and everything I had was amazing. I had the breakfast chicken sandwich on a cheddar biscuit, the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough donut, the Maple Bacon donut, and the PB&J donut. The restaurant is carry out only, but they have seating out front. This is a must checkout restaurant if yo
We always stop here while in DC. The Chicken sandwiches on the donut with hot sauce are small but tasty packing in a great bite. Honey butter is very good. We thought our sandwiches tasted a little different this time like something was missing but we were not sure. Not bad but just not like we remembered. We also ordered 6 random donuts to go and they were tasty. We got to sample small bites when we got home. They were very thick and almost cake like. Order total was $ 46.20 for 2 chicken sandwiches and
We didn't expect the fried chicken to be as good as it was! It was high quality! The crueller doughnut we had wasn't as great as we expected, but it was still tasty. Overall, it was a hidden gem that we found!
My husband got the breakfast chicken sandwich on cheddar biscuit with bacon. Nice crisp bacon, fantastic biscuit with nice white meat chicken. I had the strawberry shortcake and pb&j donuts. So good!! Would definitely go back.
I got the Cherry Blossom, Vanilla Glaze and Cr?me Br?l?e donuts. They were a good size for the price. I love that they are not too sweet, so you don?t feel sick after finishing one. Quality ingredients so they won?t hurt your teeth!
Unfortunately their cherry blossom doughnuts were sold out when we went, so we grabbed creme brulee, vanilla glazed, and chocolate cookies and cream. They were all really good and we would go back there when we are in the area. They also have fried chicken which also looked good as well. Would recommend when going near the white house or Smithsonian area .
Their chicken biscuit with its? honey-hot sauce is absolutely delectable. The doughnuts are very decorative and fantastic. Be prepared to spend a little though. Get their early before you go touring and you won?t regret it. Lines get kinda long after 9. am. There are a few tables to sit at outside, but this isn?t really a dine-in spot. More of grab-n-go doughnut eatery. Some of the best doughnuts in the US!
I wish I could give this place ten stars. This was the best food I had while in Washington DC. The only thing to keep in mind is that this place is TINY. Like you could probably fit 10 people shoulder-to-shoulder. But the honey butter chicken sandwich and key lime pie doughnut were so incredible. There are some chairs outside to sit on a nice day. I would absolutely go back.
Great service. Donuts were ok. My daughter liked the chicken tenders. Sorry, I forgot to take photos. However, I got the creme brulee donuts. The flavor and texture (it had just enough of that crispy creme brulee sugar on the outside) were great until the overfilled vanilla ooze came out and dripped all over everything. I didn't realize that it was a filled donut, which I'm not a fan of, but my real issue is that there was too much filling that it was messy and made the experience oversweet. Not my cup of
Hole in the wall. Only tried the doughnuts... vanilla glazed and peanut butter and jelly were excellent. The glazed was very moist and yeasty with some substance - dense, not all air. The PB &J tasted just like a PB&J in the doughnut dough with lots of strawberry filling inside.
This restaurant was extremely inefficient. I understand holiday crowds slow things down, but waiting 45 minutes just for water was unacceptable?especially when their water stations were empty and staff refused to refill them. The bartender served only a few people while chatting and ignoring the long line. The food was disappointing; my chicken sandwich was half empty, with minimal toppings and weak flavor. Employees moved slowly with no urgency, and many other customers were also frustrated. Overall, overp
1st time here and the customer service was cool. The gentleman who waited on us was more than patient. Food seemed a bit pricey but tasty. Creme Br?l?e don't was the bomb!!!! Chicken fingers were a bit dry, but cool. Lack of public restrooms was a bummer and should be offered..outdoor seating was appreciated.
Very disappointing, chicken sandwich was one of the worst I?ve ever had. Completely flavorless, crumbly and overall gross. The Cr?me Br?l?e donut however was the only reason this place isn?t getting 1 star. Incredibly sweet but one of the best donuts I?ve ever had, it was more crunchy then the chicken sandwich, had a great crackly sweet exterior and a creamy interior. Close to perfection, but chicken sandwich absolutely sucked.
Delicious fried chicken and donuts. Definitely get the cheese breakfast biscuits sandwich, it?s incredible. The donuts are amazing and filled with delicious fillings. It?s is a small space, but I highly recommend.
We use to go here frequently as the food use to be DELICIOUS! But, they have cut corners in more ways than one. Today, we spent around $75. The egg royale sandwiches were NOT good at all. The cheddar biscuits were definitely smaller than they use to be. The bacon is some low quality, cheap tasting bacon. No one was happy with their breakfast. On a good note, the doughnuts are still GOOD! I won't be purchasing or visiting this place again though.
The chicken sandwich was good. Chicken was moist and the donut fluffy and airy. The maple bacon donut was just the right portion of sweet and salty. The staff were friendly and courteous making this a very pleasant visit for the first time. It is a small shop, so prepare to order and go.
This place is tiny, with a few tables outside, but it's worth the wait. I liked the cake donut the best, but the star of the show was the chicken. I tried it both on the cheddar biscuit and brioche bun...it's basically a toss up. The staff is very friendly as well.
Not worth the price. Creme Brule doughnut tastes like a day old and the chicken sandwich taste dry without any sauce or seasoning
Best donut I've had in my life. We had the Cherry blossom donut and the chocolate cookies and cream. I'll never forget these donuts lol
I chose the PB&J donut myself and the Banana Pudding donut on a staff recommendation. The banana pudding was good but if I had to pick I?d go with the PB&J. The shop is tiny so you kinda have to just get in and get out; there is outdoor seating which could probably turn visiting here into more of an experience, but as it was so cold today I just had to get my food and go. I like when going out for food is more of an activity, so that part was kinda sad, but the donuts were good. I might return when the weat
Chicken sandwich was amazing! And the doughnuts were equally as good! Service was quick, they don't have indoor seating so we ended up taking ours to go.. but if you're in the DC area I would recommend this place for a quick treat
I stop here every time I visit DC. The chicken fingers are smaller in size but you get a lot! And the tater tots, yum! Get their honey mustard dipping sauce, it's got a bit of zing to it. I've had the BBQ sauce too, equally delicious. DO NOT MISS the donuts!! I got their holiday Christmas Cookie donut, and wow is it good. Not overly sweet, but it is a bit on the heavy side. Do yourself a favor and check this place out. They also serve breakfast, and they have a beer haus right next door. Don't delay, check
Cute place to get,yes Chicken [was really good] and Doughnuts [were ok]. Staff were friendly and efficient. Prices were reasonable. Would recommend as a quick stop for lunch.
Got the fried chicken on cheddar biscuit. Added cheese, egg and the honey butter. Hot sauce onto the side. Also a raspberry cheesecake donut. They were pretty good and satisfied my chicken biscuit craving. I should have added bacon too. Donut was fine. I'd go back to try again, and try the Cinnamon donut.
I'm a huge donut fan, so naturally I perused Yelp in hopes of finding some good donuts when we were visiting DC. This spot came through! My husband and I shared: - Raspberry Lemonade Donut - PB&J Donut - Blueberry Muffin Donut I loved all of them. I think my order of preference would be PB&J, Raspberry Lemonade, Blueberry Muffin, but I would happily have any of them again.
We had a great experience here! I requested to make my Chicken BLT Sandwich spicy and it didn't disappoint me, it was really good the chicken has the right spice to it and it was really tender and juicy, I picked Savory donut bun on my sandwich. On the other hand, my husband's Spicy Chicken Sandwich is a little bit disappointing because it was kinda greasy because of the sauce on it (I guess) but still taste really good (if you dont mind a little greasy chicken sandwich). Their doughnuts was fantastic! Real
This is what you?re looking for if you?re looking for an actual flavored donut. They commit. Instead of calling it a a Oreo donut and crumbling ores on top of a plain yeast donut, this place does not just sprinkle something on top and call it a day. The key lime pie donut was amazing and the banana was super banana-y. A little too ripe, but I applaud the thoroughness. Majority of them are stuffed with a unique inside, I think mainly flavored puddings
Great food! Good service! The doughnuts were good but the old bay doughnut fried chicken sandwich is a must.
Skip the savory and go for the sweet. Went right before the lunch switch at 11:30 and ended up with a greasy savory donut with two chicken strips with no sauce at all. The lemon cooler and filled creme brulee donuts were worth the money. Drinks are overpriced. Limited outdoor seating, because really they want to to grab and go. Seasonal flavors. At $36 a dozen, this is a sometimes treat.
I love the fried chicken on the cheesy biscuit that they offer for breakfast. It's so fresh and delicious. You can get awesome donuts ave great coffee options here as well. If you prefer they also have lemonade and other great drinks too. It's easy to get to and worth the trip. If you're in the area make sure to check it out.
Delicious but definitely over priced donuts. Staffs were nice! I liked all kinds of donuts except PBJ and Vanilla one.
We were visiting from Canada, decided to try this place. It?s very straight forward. I like how they have the doughnuts out for you to see. I would recommend the Creme Brulee
I ordered a two piece dark chicken with a side of tater tots through their website. My order was ready by the time I arrived. Unfortunately, I came late in the day so they were sold out of their cherry blossom donuts and I didn?t feel the need to purchase a different flavor. The breading was crisp and flavorful but the tater tots were a bit soggy though that is likely from sitting in the to go container. I received a breast instead of a thigh so I was a bit disappointed but the white meat very very moist.
One of the best chicken sandwiches I've ever had! True creativity mixing a delicious piece of chicken with donuts acting for buns. Definitely try if you're in DC.
Really good fresh home made tasting chicken. We?re from Mississippi and it taste just like grandma used to make. Tater tots, are just tater tots. And the cheddar biscuit is ok. There was a fairly long wait but they made it fresh for us so it was worth it. There?s a bar inside as well and an adjoining donut shop
Delicious donuts and chicken sandwich. Definitely need to get their early for the fun donut flavors. It was a little disappointing because they clearly had cherry blossom donuts but in the Dozen Box so they were unavailable unless you wanted all 12.
Donuts were extremely dry and tasted a day old. The cashier also had an attitude on 03/28/25 around 3pm. Enjoyed the bar area and appetizers next door.
This is a very fun place! It's not for the health conscious, of course- but if you're in the mood for fried chicken and donuts, you couldn't do much better!
The donuts here were pretty decent. I want to give them a 4.5 because they made me happy, but it wasn?t a knock it out of the park type of place. As far as prices go, it?s a typical artisanal donut price range ($2-$4). The one thing we were a bit sad about was the lack of indoor seating, so we had to move our donut purchases to a coffee shop nearby.
We loved Astro Doughnuts! The doughnuts at Astro were really great! We got the Blueberry Muffin doughnut and Peanut Butter and Jelly doughnut. They both had incredible filling inside with delicious, sugary coating on the outside. The doughnuts were slightly dry but mostly doughy and extremely flavorful. There's not a whole lot of seating other than 2 tables outside the shop. We'd definitely recommend Astro Doughnuts next time you're in DC! It was great to grab some doughnuts and then start the sightseeing
2nd time in DC so always looking for something new. The chicken strips were peppery and spicy, but not juicy. They tasted like popeyes chicken. THE DONUTS on the other hand were awesome. No doubt which ever flavor you choose itd be a great experience.
First time having a creme brulee donut. Nice crunchy top, vanilla custard inside was lightly sweet. Overall very good donut, 8.5/10. I wanted the PB and J donut, but it was sold out. Would come again.
10/10 would recommend. We went for the first time and got the pb&j, lemon meringue, football, jelly, and creme brulee. All were amazing. A great experience. Our new favorite donut spot.
Gimmicky, I tried a PBJ donut and the fruit filling was flavor overwhelming. The donut was expensive?$4 or $5. What kind of donut place doesn?t serve coffee???
Delicious donuts and fried chicken under the same roof! Yes, it?s true. The donuts were so good; I especially liked the PB&J donut. The fried chicken sandwich on a donut is something I still think about on occasion. No indoor seating is a bummer, but they have outdoor seating when the weather permits. I liked the place well enough, I bought a hat to wear back to Kansas.
I came in this morning to get a bagel and waited at least 15 minutes to order. The cashier was switching from phones to phones speaking to people while she had a line of people. The guy in front of me was getting frustrated and so was. When I finally got to order and received my bagel, it was put in a paper bag, no plastic ware, no plate or napkins. I will not be going back to this location in the future.
Lame donuts. Very underwhelming. The dough tastes horrible. The employees that gave us the donuts were on another planet the creme br?l?e donut tastes like medicine. The chocolate candy bar donut tastes like a cake? Overrated not worth. Looks like the reviews were purchased
This is an excellent place to grab some breakfast, lunch, or to get your donut fix. The takeout half of the restaurant is pretty small and can get cramped, but they also have a restaurant side with plenty of seating, TV's, and table service. As for the chicken, it's pretty good; it's flavorful and has a good amount of crispiness. You definitely can't go wrong with a sandwich here (on a savory donut bun). For the donuts, they always have four staple flavors and four rotating flavors. The cake donuts are exce
Got the peach blueberry cobbler was great. The maple bacon lacked maple flavor but was not a bad doughnut. The blackberry lemonade was pretty good. Little over priced for a doughnut that didn't blow me away. But good for the area.
BYO chicken sandwich with a vanilla glazed donut! This was very good but the only downside was that it was missing flavor in the chicken and donut! I recommend getting something else to go with it as it may not be fulfilling for everyone!
One of very few donuts places around central DC that is actually opened on Saturday. Fast service and freshly baked donuts. Absolutely nothing better along side a cold brew. Had cream br?l?e(10/10), bacon glazed(7/10), PB&J (10/10). Only BP&J survived to be pictured.
We are proud donut aficionado have tried hundred of donuts around the world. Astro donuts is the go to luxury donut location in downtown DC with fun concoctions. While the toppings are fantastic the donuts themselves are very dry and disappointing. The peanut butter and jelly donut tastes exactly like a pb&j that was made on old dry bread. The jelly filled donut has lots of semi-sweet jelly in which is great and powdered sugar coating that doesn't get all over you. Again though the donut itself is very dry
Would drop in if I see one in passing but not going out of my way. Good to try at least once! In order of most to least favorite aspects Breakfast sandwich was so good (especially after a morning race). Cheddar biscuit is not the layered flaky but the buttery soft crumb kind. I don't have a preference but do like the crumb one for this sandwich. It's not a dry biscuit at all! Cherry Blossom Donut: Cherry pie like filling. Very pretty and I like a tangy filling rather than an overly sugary one. Creme Br
Small space, but the doughnuts are unbelievable. I got the PB&J one, and I highly recommend that. My friend got the Key Lime Pie flavor. They were so good, we both went in and got another one for later!
Worth the trip! My husband and I decided to drive down from Baltimore to give this place a try based on the reviews by several friends of ours. This place didn't disappoint AT ALL. The Fried chicken and the Doughnuts were BOMB.
We visited DC a few weeks ago and Astro donuts fried chicken sandwich was the best thing we ate the entire trip. The donuts are good but the real star of the show was the fried chicken sandwiches. My husband got the chicken sandwich with the donuts and a savory seasoning on top and I got the chicken sandwich with the cheddar biscuit, both of us agree is was one of the best things we?ve ever eaten!
Unique flavors and filling, not much seating! I love donuts, so I had to try Astro Donuts while in DC. I tried the Creme Brulee (which was the #1 Donut in DC per Washington Post several years ago) and the Cherry Blossom Donut. The Creme Brulee is fantastic and worth a try; it has the outer shell/crunch of a Creme Brulee, with the appropriate filling. Cherry Blossom was pretty good, with a cream cheese exterior and cherry filling I'm giving it four stars instead of five, since service was just ok and there
Small fried chicken and doughnut shop in the downtown area. Look out for seasonal sweet and savory menu items, particularly around the holiday season as they're pretty inventive and special. The fried chicken sandwich special is flavorful and works well sandwiched in between the doughnut bun. Unfortunate part is no indoor seating available, and birds are known to come close if you decide to sit outside.
Astro Donuts is the Georgetown Cupcakes of donuts. They have fried chicken as well. These donuts are amazing. The cremebrule donut is my personal favorite. Although these donuts are not cheap. There is a Dunkin down the street for the people who want to buy junk. To each there own!
Chicago Dave is why people come to this fine establishment. Yes, the fried chicken is one of a kind, and yes these donuts beat your donuts. But Chicago Dave creates a safe and welcoming environment to all!
This is a cool doughnut spot. The doughnuts are good and they have a lot of different options for breakfast foods besides just sweets. There is only outdoor seating here. This is a very small restaurant. So if it's cold you might want to get your food to go.
Very good chicken sandwich and fun doughnuts. My watch gave me an abnormal heart rate warning while I was eating the doughnut.
CLOSET SIZE STORE! There's a small sitting right outside the place, but don't expect to sit because the place is usually crowed and rightfully so. The donuts are amazing and so are the donut sandwiches. Prices are a tad more than expected, but well worth it. Wish I could've tried everything.
I wish I got to sit down to eat my honey chicken on a cheddar cheese biscuit when it was "fresh out da frying pan"! Brought it back to the hotel, it smacked! Wow! PBJ donut! Must check out if you're in DC!
Small location with no indoor seating. The line inside filled all the available space. Service was quick once reached counter. They have a limited menu and half dozen or so types of special donuts. The donut fried chicken sandwich was good. Donut was sweet but not too sweet. Chicken was not hot but was crunchy. Mulitple sause options. I added cheese. My kid's enjoyed their sandwich and donuts. I thought sandwich was good. The donuts were okay but not great. There was limited seating outsi
Went to grab a quick bite and had a great chicken sandwich. I got it with the old Bay donut bun and the spicy sriccha sauce. It was a bit messy and pricey (8.50) but well worth it.
Have you ever had chicken fried so long it turns yellow, stringy and tough? Not even dry, but the disgusting frontier that comes after? Take a look! Also had a weird soapy aftertaste wasn?t salted very well. An order of chicken tenders comes with about 1.5 ounces of sauce which is good enough for one or two depending on how liberal you want to be. Donuts were alright, nothing to write home about. I won?t be returning.
People love this place for their fried chicken, but I go here for one thing: the nutella doughnut. It's the best donut I've had in DC (Sorry, District Doughnut- I still love you). Astro Doughnuts is a tiny store front with barely enough room for 5 people to wait for their doughnuts, but don't let that scare you. The actual dough used in the doughnut is superb and if you like chocolate, order the nutella doughnut
Excellent food. The chicken breast with cheese and bacon on a doughnut was super. The chicken was moist and warm, mixed with the sweet doughnut was different and great. It was also great on the biscuit. The Cherry Blossom doughnut was amazing. I ate it so fast I forgot to photo it. They are expensive but probably worth it. Be aware that there is no seating inside and very little outside. You will enjoy it.
Amazon ing delicious doughnuts with a wide variety to choose from. Loved everything we tried, definitely will be back!
Cute little spot, more like a sports bar/lounge really. The food was good, they took a long time to bring it tough, I wanna say 1h and it must have been just 4-5 other tables. You have to order online just in case you are not tech savvy. I would go back.
We were in DC and looking for some fried chicken. Heard this place had great doughnuts and fried chicken and that is 100% true. The fried chicken is very crispy, good seasoning (not spicy but seasoned) and incredibly moist. It wasn't greasy at all. But the doughnuts, wow. All of them were very fluffy and light. The sweetness was well balanced- it didn't feel like all sugar. The maple bacon had enough bacon that you could taste it in every bite and wasn't too sweet but the maple was still present. Key l
Yum donuts!! My favorite local donut shop. Chocolate anything is great and I usually try the seasonal donut - right now its a Cherry Blossom donut with a jam filling and it's my new favorite. Fried chicken and donuts. Cant go wrong.
Maple bacon doughnut was super light, cookie dough doughnut was very good. The PBJ doughnut was full of strawberry filling. The astro sandwich with comeback sauce was delicious and the southern heat sandwich was tasty as well! Definitely worth a visit!
