Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken

One morning before my meetings in DC. I got a chance to walk around the city. One of the places I had saved my phone to try was Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken. The doughnuts were decadent but still delicious. While there, I tried the PB & J donut along with a seasonal pumpkin pie. Both were really good, but the PB & J doughnut alone was worth the trip. I also got an order of chicken tenders. The tinders were crunchy and flavorful.This was definitely a place.I would take my family back to.

This is a funky nice place with a big bar. They have ample seating, the staff was nice however their system was confusing they handed us one of those beeper things to wait on your food and when it beeps you get up and get it. Then they ended up just serving us the food anyway which was odd and we had to order at the bar instead of them asking what we wanted. The chicken was really juicy and their donuts are delicious. We didn?t really have to wait that long for our food to be ready. Good place.

Liked this like donut shop. They had a great variety of unique and artisan donuts (nuveau). You will find something ecclectic that will pluck your donut heart (stomach ??) string. Love the new trend in the last 10 years of artisan donuts that has been building up throughout US. We did this via the Underground Donut Tour Washington DC. Got several donuts from here and they were all ok. The flavor was lacking for me and the donut was very bready - not my liking. I got the following: - Cr?me Br?l?e - Glazed - Chocolate Birthday Cake - Vanilla Birthday Cake - Strawberry Shortcake

This little shop is just big enough to have a 3 person line in the shop. We got the honey fried chicken sandwich on a biscuit and the cherry blossom donut. The chicken was juicy it was also small and disappeared quickly. The biscuit was even better, soft fluffy and with butter moist. The cherry blossom was ok but the cherry jelly that is on the inside was a bit much, it was too sweet.

Nice place. O.G.E. Chicken sandwich was okay. Chick fil a is probably better tbh. Donuts were tasty. Wouldn?t be worth $5 each without the filling. Donuts were worth trying.

These are the best donuts I have ever eaten. Visited the other store last year and found this one on a visit to D.C yesterday, and I highly recommend it. Didn't know it was a sit-down place. I will try that on my next visit. Entire family enjoyed all the different kinds that were available

So so good! Recently a friend and I took a trip to DC and wanted to look for a place to get good food with a sweet treat and this place is stellar! The donuts although I wasn?t able to try the cr?me br?l?e or the vanilla glazes I had the maple bacon donut and it was so so so so good! Tried this place in the morning for donuts. Ordered 4 or 5 to taste and the best was a last minute add, the Cherry Blossom. Not my typical donut style but it had delicious flavor and balance. We always stop here while in DC. The Chicken sandwiches on the donut with hot sauce are small but tasty packing in a great bite. Honey butter is very good. Unfortunately their cherry blossom doughnuts were sold out when we went, so we grabbed creme brulee, vanilla glazed, and chocolate cookies and cream. Their chicken biscuit with its? honey-hot sauce is absolutely delectable. The doughnuts are very decorative and fantastic. Be prepared to spend a little though. Get their early before you go touring and you won?t regret it. Lines get kinda long after 9. am. There are a few tables to sit at outside, but this isn?t really a dine-in spot. I wish I could give this place ten stars. This was the best food I had while in Washington DC. The only thing to keep in mind is that this place is TINY. Like you could probably fit 10 people shoulder-to-shoulder. But the honey butter chicken sandwich and key lime pie doughnut were so incredible. There are some chairs outside to sit on a nice day. Great service. Donuts were ok. My daughter liked the chicken tenders. Sorry, I forgot to take photos. However, I got the creme brulee donuts. The flavor and texture (it had just enough of that crispy creme brulee sugar on the outside) were great until the overfilled vanilla ooze came out and dripped all over everything. Hole in the wall. Only tried the doughnuts... vanilla glazed and peanut butter and jelly were excellent. The glazed was very moist and yeasty with some substance - dense, not all air. The PB &J tasted just like a PB&J in the doughnut dough with lots of strawberry filling inside.

Very disappointing, chicken sandwich was one of the worst I?ve ever had. Completely flavorless, crumbly and overall gross. The Cr?me Br?l?e donut however was the only reason this place isn?t getting 1 star. Incredibly sweet but one of the best donuts I?ve ever had, it was more crunchy then the chicken sandwich, had a great crackly sweet exterior and a creamy interior. We use to go here frequently as the food use to be DELICIOUS! But, they have cut corners in more ways than one. Today, we spent around $75. The egg royale sandwiches were NOT good at all. The cheddar biscuits were definitely smaller than they use to be. The bacon is some low quality, cheap tasting bacon. No one was happy with their breakfast. On a good note, the doughnuts are still GOOD! I won't be purchasing or visiting this place again though.

The chicken sandwich was good. Chicken was moist and the donut fluffy and airy. The maple bacon donut was just the right portion of sweet and salty. The staff were friendly and courteous making this a very pleasant visit for the first time. It is a small shop, so prepare to order and go.

I stop here every time I visit DC. The chicken fingers are smaller in size but you get a lot! And the tater tots, yum! Get their honey mustard dipping sauce, it's got a bit of zing to it. Got the fried chicken on cheddar biscuit. Added cheese, egg and the honey butter. Hot sauce onto the side. Also a raspberry cheesecake donut. They were pretty good and satisfied my chicken biscuit craving. I should have added bacon too. Donut was fine. I'd go back to try again, and try the Cinnamon donut.

I'm a huge donut fan, so naturally I perused Yelp in hopes of finding some good donuts when we were visiting DC. This spot came through! My husband and I shared: - Raspberry Lemonade Donut - PB&J Donut - Blueberry Muffin Donut I loved all of them. Instead of calling it a a Oreo donut and crumbling ores on top of a plain yeast donut, this place does not just sprinkle something on top and call it a day. Skip the savory and go for the sweet. Went right before the lunch switch at 11:30 and ended up with a greasy savory donut with two chicken strips with no sauce at all. The lemon cooler and filled creme brulee donuts were worth the money. Drinks are overpriced. Limited outdoor seating, because really they want to to grab and go. Seasonal flavors. At $36 a dozen, this is a sometimes treat.

I love the fried chicken on the cheesy biscuit that they offer for breakfast. It's so fresh and delicious. You can get awesome donuts ave great coffee options here as well. If you prefer they also have lemonade and other great drinks too. It's easy to get to and worth the trip. If you're in the area make sure to check it out.

I ordered a two piece dark chicken with a side of tater tots through their website. My order was ready by the time I arrived. Unfortunately, I came late in the day so they were sold out of their cherry blossom donuts and I didn?t feel the need to purchase a different flavor. The breading was crisp and flavorful but the tater tots were a bit soggy though that is likely from sitting in the to go container. I received a breast instead of a thigh so I was a bit disappointed but the white meat very very moist.

The donuts here were pretty decent. I want to give them a 4.5 because they made me happy, but it wasn?t a knock it out of the park type of place. As far as prices go, it?s a typical artisanal donut price range ($2-$4). The one thing we were a bit sad about was the lack of indoor seating, so we had to move our donut purchases to a coffee shop nearby.

We loved Astro Doughnuts! The doughnuts at Astro were really great! We got the Blueberry Muffin doughnut and Peanut Butter and Jelly doughnut. 2nd time in DC so always looking for something new. The chicken strips were peppery and spicy, but not juicy. They tasted like popeyes chicken. THE DONUTS on the other hand were awesome. No doubt which ever flavor you choose itd be a great experience.

First time having a creme brulee donut. Nice crunchy top, vanilla custard inside was lightly sweet. Overall very good donut, 8.5/10. I wanted the PB and J donut, but it was sold out. Would come again.

Delicious donuts and fried chicken under the same roof! Yes, it?s true. The donuts were so good; I especially liked the PB&J donut. The fried chicken sandwich on a donut is something I still think about on occasion. No indoor seating is a bummer, but they have outdoor seating when the weather permits. I liked the place well enough, I bought a hat to wear back to Kansas.

I came in this morning to get a bagel and waited at least 15 minutes to order. The cashier was switching from phones to phones speaking to people while she had a line of people. The guy in front of me was getting frustrated and so was. When I finally got to order and received my bagel, it was put in a paper bag, no plastic ware, no plate or napkins. I will not be going back to this location in the future.

This is an excellent place to grab some breakfast, lunch, or to get your donut fix. The takeout half of the restaurant is pretty small and can get cramped, but they also have a restaurant side with plenty of seating, TV's, and table service. Got the peach blueberry cobbler was great. The maple bacon lacked maple flavor but was not a bad doughnut. The blackberry lemonade was pretty good. Little over priced for a doughnut that didn't blow me away. But good for the area.

BYO chicken sandwich with a vanilla glazed donut! This was very good but the only downside was that it was missing flavor in the chicken and donut! I recommend getting something else to go with it as it may not be fulfilling for everyone!

One of very few donuts places around central DC that is actually opened on Saturday. Fast service and freshly baked donuts. Absolutely nothing better along side a cold brew. Had cream br?l?e(10/10), bacon glazed(7/10), PB&J (10/10). Only BP&J survived to be pictured.

We are proud donut aficionado have tried hundred of donuts around the world. Astro donuts is the go to luxury donut location in downtown DC with fun concoctions. While the toppings are fantastic the donuts themselves are very dry and disappointing. The peanut butter and jelly donut tastes exactly like a pb&j that was made on old dry bread. Worth the trip! My husband and I decided to drive down from Baltimore to give this place a try based on the reviews by several friends of ours. This place didn't disappoint AT ALL. The Fried chicken and the Doughnuts were BOMB.

I tried the Creme Brulee (which was the #1 Donut in DC per Washington Post several years ago) and the Cherry Blossom Donut. Small fried chicken and doughnut shop in the downtown area. Look out for seasonal sweet and savory menu items, particularly around the holiday season as they're pretty inventive and special. The fried chicken sandwich special is flavorful and works well sandwiched in between the doughnut bun. Unfortunate part is no indoor seating available, and birds are known to come close if you decide to sit outside.

Astro Donuts is the Georgetown Cupcakes of donuts. They have fried chicken as well. These donuts are amazing. The cremebrule donut is my personal favorite. Although these donuts are not cheap. There is a Dunkin down the street for the people who want to buy junk. To each there own!

Went to grab a quick bite and had a great chicken sandwich. I got it with the old Bay donut bun and the spicy sriccha sauce. It was a bit messy and pricey (8.50) but well worth it.

Have you ever had chicken fried so long it turns yellow, stringy and tough? Not even dry, but the disgusting frontier that comes after? Take a look! Also had a weird soapy aftertaste wasn?t salted very well. An order of chicken tenders comes with about 1.5 ounces of sauce which is good enough for one or two depending on how liberal you want to be. Donuts were alright, nothing to write home about. People love this place for their fried chicken, but I go here for one thing: the nutella doughnut. It's the best donut I've had in DC (Sorry, District Doughnut- I still love you). Excellent food. The chicken breast with cheese and bacon on a doughnut was super. The chicken was moist and warm, mixed with the sweet doughnut was different and great. It was also great on the biscuit. The Cherry Blossom doughnut was amazing. I ate it so fast I forgot to photo it. They are expensive but probably worth it. Be aware that there is no seating inside and very little outside. You will enjoy it.

We were in DC and looking for some fried chicken. Heard this place had great doughnuts and fried chicken and that is 100% true. The fried chicken is very crispy, good seasoning (not spicy but seasoned) and incredibly moist. It wasn't greasy at all. But the doughnuts, wow. All of them were very fluffy and light. Maple bacon doughnut was super light, cookie dough doughnut was very good. The PBJ doughnut was full of strawberry filling. The astro sandwich with comeback sauce was delicious and the southern heat sandwich was tasty as well! Definitely worth a visit!
