In an effort to shop local I gave this place a chance. The first thing I noticed was the awful smokiness, so I ordered to-go. I ordered a tenderloin biscuit and a side of sweet potato fries for $8.14. I went to the donut side and bought a bag of buttery dinner rolls and a custard filled donut for $9.88. When I got out to the car and opened my food, I was shocked to see how tiny the portions were. The meat on the biscuit was barely a bite. I took it back inside to get my money back so I could go spend it on

Small bakery located inside of a gas station. This place was pretty cool and the staff was very friendly and funny. The nice ladies gave me some recommendations and the donuts were great. The prices are fantastic as well!

Great pastries - and more! This place has a long history of making great pastries. I tried an apple fritter that made my morning. The sandwich counter has much to offer as the pictures will show. Last but not least...the restroom in the attached gas/convenient store, was spotless and we'll -stocked. For the traveling person this is something getting harder to find. I highly rate this place on the cleanliness of the facility. I also appreciate the friendly staff at both areas! This place is a real jewel!

A super cute little place to grab a quick bite to eat and a sweet treat afterwards. Got some breakfast, I tried the build your own biscuit and hubby got the western omelet. It?s the perfect amount. Then we grabbed an apple fritter, a chocolate chip cookie, and brownie to sample, all were excellent. We ate inside and had great service. Can?t speak for the drive through which seems where some of the negative reviews come from, but we loved it! I?m sure if you go a little bit later in the day they might be out

They make their own hamburger buns!!?? We had combo meals, and their patties were super big. We're trying their donuts tonight; no room to eat them now. ?? Got the most amazing cheese Danish here on Saturday morning. Reasonable prices and good service. They had a big selection. Would have given 5 stars, but went back on Sunday morning and they had very few items available.

I stopped by Amons yesterday and I was so impressed by the customer service I had to go back. They're known for their Bakery items as shown in the picture. I bought a few myself and they are absolutely out of this world. The sauce is very friendly and the restaurant is very clean. And you have their full attention which is hard to find in this day and age in any food service business. I recommend going to this if you're going to be in the Somerset Lake Cumberland area that's awesome

Best donuts I've had in my entire life, got there as it was closing so they gave us a few extra too, just amazing.

We stopped in yesterday on our way to visit our son in Richmond. We were very disappointed to say the least. We ordered a dozen donuts, the majority were powdered. We decided to sit down on the inside to eat them so we would not have a mess. The powdered donuts tasted as if they had been made a few days prior and they had added additional powdered sugar on top. They were dry, disgusting, and the fillings were only gel. The remainder of the donuts were stale as well. At almost $14 a dozen, we expected FRESH

Just moved here from out of state and this place made me feel at home. Everyone is pleasant, there are heart warming photos and articles about the history of the place and people who work there on the walls. It's clean and, most importantly the food is SO GOOD! I had the Turkey Club panini, my husband had a cheeseburger and we were very happy with the food. Food was hot, made to order and we also got some sweets to take home from the bakery....HEAVENLY. It's a neighborhood staple.

This place has excellent home cooked food with a hometown atmosphere. I definitely recommend.

Ordered food for lunch on DoorDash. They let someone who WASN?T WITH DOORDASH take my food without checking. So any time a dasher got reassigned to my order, Amon?s turned them away and wouldn?t replace the food for their owe mistake. I ended up having to get a refund and order lunch somewhere else.

It's going downhill fast! Burgers were sad, fries were frozen and not cooked through, the cake we bought tasted like it had been frozen, and the icing was awful. NOT the Amon's we always loved.

Amons has been a staple of this area for decades, It's an amazing hometown restaurant and bakery. The food and bakery are amazing. I would highly recommend this place to anyone and the consistency of the food being good is great. I come here all the time and have never had a bad experience. I would of added photo's but I ate my food to quickly to do so. :/ But check this place out and support a local business!

We love coming here for breakfast anytime in town. From delicious homemade doughnuts and pastries to great homemade breakfast dishes, you can't go wrong here. Great for children because of a tremendous selection of pastries.

One of my husbands trucker friends gave Him 2 of the Amons jelly donuts. Can I say I fell in love. All the times I've been in Somerset and never knew about this place. I'll be making special trips. Yummy I give it a 100 %

Over $9.00 for a chef salad with extra ranch dressing. The salad looks like a side salad.

We like a family run bakery when we can find them. Where the doughnuts and muffins taste fresh from the oven. Amons hit it out of the park! They had coffee biscuits doughnuts and pastries. Everything we tried was fluffy and fresh. It felt like home. Give them a try!

Hidden gem if you are not from the area. This is definitely a local favorite. Great donuts and other sugary treats that are amazing for you taste buds, but terror the rest of you!

The 12 burger meal is the size of a white castle burger. Don't waste your money here the burger was 3 bites and the cashier should have told me it was a kids meal for 12.00 then I tipped to have to pick up my own food.

Never disappointed after choosing amon's bakery for lunch or dinner. Their burgers are SUPERIOR to any restaurants in town. They're the best! The buns are a chefs kiss, the toppings are always fresh, the burger itself is heavenly & the staff go above and beyond. Super friendly.

I had to give this place 5 stars and say that I must stop myself from shopping there too often. (I'd weigh 300 lbs. if I stopped every time I passed the place.) The best consistent quality donuts I've had anywhere; and we've lived all over the world. I love you guys, but can't love you too much!

It's ok. Brownies are way too dry & the donuts are too Dance .and thick of dough. And the apple Fritters are cooked to long they should be golden brown not a really dark brown and hard. But the food is great and the staff is amazing people.. just need to update their sweet department is all..

Everytime we drive to somerset we have to stop and get 2 dozen of these delicious donuts. Our family rates these donuts the best we have ever had. If you haven't stopped by and tried these delicious donuts you have to stop. Locals just don't know how good they got it. These a perfectly moist and sweet the taste is pure perfection. 2021 review update. I bought some donuts and coffee for a college class, because this is who they liked. I ordered on the phone and the service was FANTASTIC! I picked up the order and the class enjoyed it. I don't eat sweets, but I tried a donut the next day. One of only three leftovers, and it's definitely better than the "DD" place. I waited in line at the window for 15+ minutes while the lady would come to the window but not open it. Just for her to finally open the window to tell me they have none of the donuts I asked for. I would ask for a different donut item, and she would immediately say she didn't have them. Absolutely rude, terrible customer service. I didn't get any donuts..

Three stars for the delicious pastries. We bought an assortment of eclairs, cruellers, donuts and cinnamon rolls that didn't disappoint. I will visit again for the pastries only but will skip the breakfast food next time. I got biscuits and gravy and it looked and tasted exactly like they cut a dinner roll in two and slopped gravy over it. Not a true, southern biscuit. Had to throw it out and eat a donut instead.

Great, quick, dine in or take out. Bakery is outstanding. Grilled food is good. Personal favorite is Taco Salad. Nice place to sit down for a quick bite or carry out.

Ordered a custom 50TH year anniversary cake from Amons. The employee took the order down wrong and the cake was wrong. Spoke to Mgr Doug, he said the baker did the cake right per the order instructions even though his employee wrote down the order incorrectly, and, therefore will NOT ISSUE A REFUND. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. DO NOT ORDER A SPECIAL CAKE FROM THEM, IF IT IS WRONG THEY DO NOT CARE.

I love this place. I was visiting my family for Christmas with my wife and baby boy in tow, and wanted them to taste the best donuts anywhere, so I made it a point to stop. Traveling through Somerset on business and not want another fast food meal. I stopped to get gas and looked up to Amons Sugar Shack and thought I would give it a try. I ordered the Tuscan panini and housemate chips after asking the cashier her favorite. It was hot, well seasoned, crisply grilled on the outside and soft cheesy melting on the inside. Wonderful! Housemate chips and dipping sauce were great. I don't know if I will need to travel this way again, but if I do... I will definitely be back. The cake

Loved their breakfast (western omelet and sausage biscuit). Donuts were delicious too. The pace is a bit slow (which I do not mind) but the service is friendly. I loved seeing the pictures of various generations who have worked at this establishment. Lots of heart.

Ordered sandwich and chips and drink. Did not have either of the drinks I wanted, so I asked for refund on the drink. Without telling me anything, they gave me refund on entire order, and charged me again for what I actually got, but final price was HIGHER without the drink! Would think they could have mentioned that before. Will never eat here again.

Recently moved to the area and have tried several breakfast places. Amon's Sugar Shack is by far the best and our new favorite. The biscuits and gravy recipe reminds me of my grandma's, it's amazing. The donuts are delicious and are a favorite with our kids! The staff is so very nice and were very welcoming to us being newbies in town!

Best pastries I think I have ever had ! The cheese danish was light and flaky, the cinnamon swirl had enough cinnamon that you could actually taste it, and the service was good..eventhough it was a bit confusing when you first enter as to how to order. I am glad I don't live near here...I know I'd be here waaay too much !!!

Oh my! Wonderful breakfast and pastry. Coffee is way above a roadside dinner. Didn't catch all the names, but Elaine and Chloe helped us the the baked goods. Everything tasted great. Service was full on Southern at it's best.

I picked up the cake, but I must say I am very disappointed in how the whole order went. You never asked me if there were allergies or even what flavor I wanted the cake to be...The writing was sloppy and the cake was lopped sided. I always thought since I was a very small girl that amons bakery had some of the prettiest cake's. I will not order from you again nor will I recommend your bakery ever. I am really disappointed ??.

The other food isn't bad, but I go there for the sweets. I've never had better donuts or muffins anywhere, and I've lived all over. It's become a family tradition for us all to visit when family comes. They joke that they drive 5 hours for Amon's glazed donuts, not to see us. ><

This is a local favorite and a very good place to eat. Informal and fun. The food is very good but the desserts are to die for. Doug Stephens is a great host and always glad to see you. If you haven't eaten here, you need to. If you have, go again.

I ate breakfast yesterday at amons and me and my family ordered sausage egg and cheese biscuits and bacon egg and cheese biscuits and they were the best we've ever had so good...the biscuits were so soft and cheese they were delicious

Amon's has always had the best donuts, but the last few times I got plain glazed donuts, they tasted as if they had been made in old cooking oil. I really hope they will do better. Amon's has always been the go to place in Somerset for donuts.

We went for the first time today after cruise in. My veggie panini was great but my husband ordered a double cheeseburger and it was the size of a half dollar.lol So you may need more than 1 to get full.lol

I had 5 dozen wedding cookies ordered from here very very bad cookies they weren't even close to being sweet. Just blowed 30.00. Never will I ever order anything from here again They were for my granddaughters wedding it was truly embarrassing saw 3 people spit them out.

I've traveled to several different places around the state of Kentucky where people rave about their local bakery. Being a connoisseur of baked goods I tend to give them a try. Every time I've been let down because I've grown up with Amons; which is the by far the best bakery I've ever been to. They are the go to birthday cake location and good luck just picking up a cake when you see the bevy of sugary goodness on display. Their donuts are things that legends are made of. I asked for Bavarian cream donuts since i have been craving them while pregnant. I asked the lady if she had any Bavarian filled and she told me that she didn?t. Then she said, we have these and they are Bavarian filled so we bought them. We got home and they were chocolate filled? Sat at their window for 5-6 minutes while random employees looked at me while walking by. Not one took my order within that time. Just walked around. Not even a just a second or anything. Best way to lose weight is to attempt to buy a donut from these guys.

This was my first time eating at Amon's Sugar Shack and the food was delicious and of course the bakery was outstanding. I have always been crazy over the pastries there. Will definitely go again.

Great donuts, but their pastries are worth driving a good distance for. Not pretentious or corporate slick and polished, this is a real old-fashioned small town bakery.
