Alvernon Donut Shop

I had forgot about this place they been in town for a while. Remembered it and went there and got a dozen donuts. These are by far the best donuts in Tucson thus far! I'm going to have to go back and try their fried chicken I guess they make that now. I saw some there that was cooked and it looked amazing but I got the donuts cuz that's what I came for.

A few weeks ago, we tried Alvernon Donut and it was amazing. The our middle son want to start birthday waking up to this Mega Homer Donut. I am not lying when I say it's twice the size as the original Homer Donut you get and Universal Studios. Needless to say, Alvernon Donut did not disappoint!

Such great donuts and really fabulous savory options too. I stopped here 4 straight days when I was in Tucson for a solo trip. They've got coffee too, although the coffee isn't their calling card. Really wonderful service. Plenty of parking but it is right on the intersection so it's a bit tricky.

Customer service was professional. The donuts were not good at all. They were so greasy and oily and bland tasting. When you are used to quality recipe donuts you can tell right away from low quality oily donuts hidden under a lot of glaze. I could never recommend this place.

I have been here before, but not since reading Yelp's best donuts piece a few months back. We arrived in the afternoon so literally, half the donuts were gone (plus the gal said they had several big orders that day). Not to worry, they had enough for us to make a nice varietal fancy dozen. The donuts are VERY fresh and tasty... pillowy melt in your mouth donuts. The shop itself is very old-school looking, and they obviously put their efforts into their donuts more than their decor. So I stopped to get donuts on my way to my daughter's house because my grandson loves donuts. And he was very pleased with the donuts we bought. I like the buttermilk bars with chocolate frosting and the old fashioned with chocolate frosting. My daughter and son also liked them.

Donuts were super fresh and decorated in such cute ways!!! Both times we have visited service has been excellent! You cannot beat these delicious donuts at such a reasonable price! Will be back soon!!!

I really wanted to like this place. I like supporting local businesses, the staff here are friendly, and the prices are fair. However, despite their donuts looking very yummy, I've tried 4 different flavors of donuts over 2 visits (wanted to give them a second chance) and none of them had much flavor, most of them didn't taste fresh, and one of them appeared to have food dye in it (not sure). Definitely a lackluster experience and I won't be returning.

I gotta rave about Alvernon's cream filled donut! It was light and fluffy and the cream wasn't running out when taking a bite like B's donuts are. Even though this was yesterday, I can't stop thinking about it. Number 1 for a cream filled donut! Get one, you won't be disappointed!

First time there. I?m not a huge donut fan but my kids like them. Wow, really amazing donuts. We bought a bunch of the specialty donuts to try them. So good. Really nice staff as well. We will absolutely come here again

As a tri-state (Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin) kid in the 60's we called Broasted Chicken "Supper Club Chicken". IMHO one only needs 3 (absolutely essential) items for the best sandwich in the world. 1- Bakery 7grain bread, 2- pure irish butter and 3- a de-boned Broasted chicken thigh. Tell yourself to eat it slowly......

Found this GEM while visiting and came 4 days In A row. Donuts melt in your mouth and taste super fresh. We saw the same people behind the counter each day and they were both as sweet as the Donuts. Super kind and great vibes. We can't wait to come back next year!!

I love coming here! Always so fresh and the quality is amazing. The flavors and the variety of donuts and other offerings are so good. They're always a hit when I take them to the office and have become the place to go for donuts. Plus the prices are so low for such amazing quality! Omg!! These are the best donuts I?ve had while in Tucson and I?ve had a few. They have this amazing crunch on the outside and soft texture on the inside. I almost crashed while eating the glazed donut in the car due to having an out of body experience. And don?t get me started on the cinnamon rolls! You will be doing yourself a disservice by not trying them. In addition to the amazing donuts, the staff was incredibly friendly and explained the menu to me. Good customer service provided here ??. I ordered 2 dozen variety donuts which was just under $30.00. The quality of the donuts were very unsavory. Some tasted fresher and some tasted not so fresh. The quality of the items was bad. Not much flavor or taste. Not much frosting or toppings. The people I bought them for, barely ate any of them because nobody liked the donuts. It was my first time trying out Alvernon Donuts and now I know it was also my last time eating here.... ??????????????????????????

Great little family owned donut shop with all the traditional donuts, apple fritters, cinnamon rolls etc plus they serve Broasted Chicken! Go mid-morning around 10:30 for the chicken as they often sell out!

You *HAVE* to try their bacon/sausage egg and cheese dumplings... omigod they are heavenly amazingly delicious... and very filling, one fills me up and I generally eat a ton before feeling full. so $5 is worth it. Simply the best place in Tucson, possibly Arizona, to get donuts, everyone is always very friendly and fast. By far the best donuts in Tucson! When moving to town I had to find my donut fix & growing up in small Tx town good donuts are a must. After many failed donuts I found this awesome family run shop & my search was over. They are always fresh & a great selection... As with most shops the earlier the better selection. Fresh coffee. I visited this donut shop months ago and have been looking forward to going back ever since. The donuts are not too sugary and don't feel cakey like the chain ones do they are soft and pillowy with great flavor. The young man on the counter was so helpful and suggested some donuts to try and they were delicious. There's a twisty cinnamon donut thing that he recommended that was so delicious and I've been craving it ever since.

OH...MY...GOD! These are the best donuts I've ever tasted! They're fresh and melt in your mouth much like crispy creams. But I've always found crispy cream donuts to be way too sweet. This is our favorite donut shop in Tucson! Their apple fritters are the best I've tasted anywhere (and we love a good donut shop). You can't get a bad donut here, but I'd recommend their bear claw, the maple bacon donut, the croissant, and the blueberry. And the nicest family owns it. AND you can order a giant donut, any flavor, for a birthda! We got the maple bacon and it was a HUGE hit! Still tasted amazing!

Alvernon Donuts earned a repeat customer the other day. Poe, the owner, is a really nice guy, and has been running this shop for 20 years!!!! He strikes up a conversation and makes sure that you end up walking out with exactly the donuts that you were looking for. And the main show - the donuts - were SO delicious. The high quality that you hope to get when you're craving a donut. (Le Caves, Poe has you beat. Just sayin...) I highly recommend.

Did a little donut research before heading to Tucson from the east coast. Alvernon Donut Shop seemed to be one of the best shops in Tucson based on the reviews. The donuts are amazing, in taste and selection. They have a light flavorful taste to them and do not have the overly fried greasy taste to them. The service was wonderful, the woman who helped me was very nice and friendly. This is truly a one of a kind family run bakery. Their donuts are the best in town, they also have great fried chicken and ham and cheese sandwiches (ham and cheese in a coissant). Everything we've had here has been so good, but the surprising stand out for me is actually their potato salad, it's just so unexpected! A donut shop with great potato salad? I make a point to go to this place every time I?m in Tucson. The donuts aren?t just the best in town, they?re still #1 donut on my list. I?ve had Shipley?s in Texas with their great coffee, I?ve had Voodoo?s in Denver .. all those crazy donuts with all the cereal etc ... nothing compares to the simplicity of Alvernon. It's a bit far for me though, so when I sometimes get a fritter from elsewhere, it always makes me sigh and wish I had the fritter from Alvernon. Hands down the most amazing donuts I've had and I'm from San Francisco California where the donuts are king. Staff is super friendly every donut I've tried has left me amazed. And the croissants are to die for warm flaky on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. Just talking about Alvernon donuts makes me want to run over and grab some now.

Okay I literally just left this place no more than 5 minutes ago and I loved my experience so much that I had to hurry up and write my review. I'm from the midwest and I'm used to creme or whipped filled long johns and a very authentic tasting dough with a very good tasting chocolate frosting. (Not cheap, overly sweet and fake tasting) Let me tell you, I purchased 3 donuts from a donut wheel shop and literally threw a fit at home, threw them away and headed out to find something better.
